Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Moleger this football season. No matter who you
root for, no matter if it's college or pro, you
can catch every game at Long Neck Sports Grill. They've
got four k TVs all over the place. And remember
this sound is on for every big game. And if
you haven't tried Long Next Wings, what are you waiting for?
There's tons of other great stuff on the menu. And
(00:20):
no place in Northern Kentucky has a better beer selection.
Locations in Wilder, Richwood, and Hebron Long Neck Sports Grill,
Stay long, come often. It's twelve away from four. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty. It's the Ortho Cincymuegger's show on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Our friend Jay Morrison's going to join
(00:41):
us at four twenty, our Bengals Chargers, and we got
our guy, Moury Brown knows more about the business of
sports and baseball than anybody alive. And so the Reds announced,
in conjunction with Major League Baseball that MLB is going
to produce their TV games, and people have questions. I
(01:01):
think a lot of folks are concerned that the Reds
aren't going to make any money on their TV deal
and then aren't going to be able to, you know,
pay players, and I don't know if that's the case
or if it's not the case, but Moury does and
some Moury's going to join us in just about forty
five minutes. It's also fun having a guy in the
show whose.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Name is Maury.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Chad Brendle's name is not Maury, or I would have
called him Maury. Name's Chad Bearcat journal dot com. He's
with us, now, how's it going?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Good? That sounds like a good, like like a burner
account Morey, Moury.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
My mom calls my mom calls me Maury, so maybe
maybe it'll be mine. Really she does, or she used to.
She doesn't anymore, but she when I growing up, she
called me Maury.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
She eventually switched over tomorrow, but reluctantly.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
She was the last one to come over to the
to the mo side. Yeah, uh, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I know.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
You don't wager, but pretend you did. You had to
wager an amount of money that matters to you. Will
Dan Skillings be on the floor in December fourteenth?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
I guess I'll go. No. I think it's the safe bet.
I mean, it's hard to tell because you know, it
sounds like the standard, like he is going to absolutely
no questions asked, miss X. Number of weeks is probably
like three, I would guess, and then from there it's
(02:31):
week to week on how he's healing, how he's feeling.
But West has already said they're going to err on
the side of caution, which given the way the Big
Twelve schedule plays out this year, you almost have to
because if you rush him back and you risk missing
him for any portion of the Big twelfth schedule because
you rushed him back, you're in trouble. Because this league
(02:53):
is incredible from watching the early returns. So what four
weeks We're four weeks from the shootout tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
One month from today, Yeah, four.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Weeks from the shootout. I would say close to return
at that point. But if I had the wager, I
guess I would say, no, I can't.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Help but shake the feeling.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
They've played two games, they've had three guys get hurt.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
That's not a good sign.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
No, it's not a good sign. The Tyler McKinley one,
I mean, I've seen a video of it. It was
non contact. He was just you know, doing a drill
in practice and making a move and his knee gave out.
Nothing you can do there Dayda Thomas, we knew we
were gonna have to worry about that pretty much, you know,
when he broke his foot. Like basketball players and and
(03:48):
and foot injuries don't go together. They go to you know,
I won't I won't make that anout you that's gonna
go somewhere. I'll pass. Uh, they don't. They don't go together. Well,
so you know there's going to be a fear that
that's something that lingers throughout the year. And then you
know Dan and the second there in the opening night
(04:09):
of the season, that's what worries me. Mough you lost
Tyler McKinley the first game of the season. You lose
Dan Skillings the first the first practice of the season,
you lose Tyler McKinley, the first game of the season,
you lose Dan Skilling. No more. First we're out of
first like the first big twelve game. Worries Yeah at this.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Point, yeah, no, we're we're on the same page there.
They've played two games. What have you learned about this team?
Speaker 3 (04:35):
You know? I think the funny part is, I know
they scored one hundred and nine points against Pine bluff.
I think it might have been more impressive that they
were able to even get close to eighty against Morehead
State because the pace of that game was really really slow,
like really really slow, and in previous years under you know,
(04:59):
maybe Fring coaching staff that might be living out on
the West coast right now, that would have been a
sixty three point game. Right when I looked at the
points per possession, I mean, did you I don't know
if you look that up or not. With the points
per possession in that game, where one point four to
three points per possession for the game that is, I mean,
(05:22):
like one point two to one point three is crazy high.
So offensively this team through two games, the assists rates
are really high. They're not turning the ball over, they're
shooting a high percentage, they're connecting from three, like all
the things that you want to see offensively, I think
(05:43):
we've seen through the first two games, and that is
super encouraging.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
When he committed I asked you about Keishaan Tillery he
has signed. I'm going to ask you about him again.
How much am I going to love him?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
You're going to I mean, just a fierce competitor at
point guard, really knows how to run a team, how
to play the game. He can pass, he can shoot,
he can score, just a little bit of everything. And
one of those I've always been a big fan of this,
(06:19):
one of those like tougher East Coast guards, and you know,
that's kind of what he think, like an old big
East guard like point guard, and that's kind of the
role that he fits. I also like that that he's
a kid that has been rising up the rankings, you know,
and sometimes you find those kids that sophomore junior year,
(06:40):
they're really high up in the rankings, and then as
they get older, they start to fall a little bit down.
And a kid that was like twenty in the rankings
when you started recruiting him is like sixty when he commits.
This is a kid that is going the opposite direction.
And West talked yesterday about he thinks he might be underrated,
and I think that's fair because I don't think his
(07:01):
ascension is really like like maxed out his peaked yet.
So you know, everybody always talks about wanting to have
a quote unquote true point guard. I think he is
a true point guard in today's sense of the word,
and that he can run a team. He's really solid,
he's a good athlete. He can really get up and
down the floor. But he can also score the basketball
(07:23):
because that true point guard idea is gone. You got
a point guard that can't score your offense, stakes like
it's just it's handicapped. And we've seen that here at times.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
And he can do a little bit of both times.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
For thirty years, thirty years, thirty years kind of time.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Yeah, yeah, it does.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Can.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Can the football team be at Iowa State?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
I don't think so, no, I really, I mean I've
been trying to figure out ways to talk myself into
it throughout the week. The defense is outstanding. They have
had some trouble against the Run of Lade. I know
they've got, you know, a bunch of kind of meaningful
injuries linebackers and you know, the corners. But I I'm
(08:18):
trying to talk myself into Okay, maybe the last two
games are signs that those injuries have really had an
impact and Iowa State's not as good as they were
maybe three four weeks ago. And then I think this
is also an Io State team playing at home at night,
coming off of two games that they really just did
not play well at all and that terrifies me. I'm
(08:41):
impressed by the improvement we have seen from this defense.
The reality is they've lost four games by what twenty
one points, twenty two points, whatever it is, They've been
pretty much in every game. Maybe and maybe if I've
had this one circled all season long, it's like this,
this one's probably going to be the toughest one on
(09:03):
the road at night against Iowa State. But I don't
feel great about it. And some of that is we
need Brendan Soresby for this team to win. We need
to see Brendan Soorsby get back to who he was
the first half of the season and not who he's
been the past couple of weeks. And I don't know
if it's confidence, but what I'm not seeing Mo those
(09:26):
first couple of weeks, like there might have been some
russ there is some inconsistency at times, but boy, when
he got into a rhythm, he really clicked and he
could really start humming for like an extended stretch. I
haven't seen that in weeks, and that concerns me going
into this environment. I mean, you're gonna have to run
Corey Kyner a bunch. I think I think my biggest
(09:48):
fear is Iowa State gets a decent lead that you know,
a two's a ten point lead, and then their past
defense is so good that Cincinnati really struggles to claw
their way back. I don't feel great, and that's not
what you were looking for, But I don't feel great
about this.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
You know what I look for on this show is honesty,
and you gave it to me, even if it was depressing.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
And that's okay. We'll uh, we'll.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Talk next week, all right, thanks, No, you won't know.
We won't.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I won't. I'm off. That's right, you are next Thursday.
That's right.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Go here from me. But maybe maybe at three forty
five I'll call and interview you.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
That's probably not a good idea for me, man, That's
probably probably not what That's probably not a good move
if I if I choose to do that, But I've
made I've made poor decisions, so you never know, all right, Chad,
Thanks so much. There you go, Chad Brendel, Bearcat Journal
dot Com. A little bit later on Jay Morrison on
the Bengals from the venue originally known as Paul Brown Stadium,
(10:48):
Morey Brown's gonna tell us if the Red's gonna go
broke because of their new TV deal and uh, Dan
class if the Reds did go broke, what would happen?
And Dan Claskins will tell you who to start in
your fantasy football team.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
I'll spend a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
It's signing day in college basketball, and we've talked a
lot about the men's side of it. You see, women
have picked up I think the greatest signing in program history.
And the coach is Katrina Merriweather, and I like Katrina
says she's gonna join us for a few minutes. Next
on ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
This report is sponsored Hey, it's Moweger.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
