x You did lead by as many as fourteen early
(00:20):
in the second half. Ryan Conwell was awesome today, scored
thirty eight, not enough. Muskie's fall to a twenty one
and eleven overall, losing by two eighty nine to eighty seven.
The Golden Eagles will take on Saint John's tomorrow. Miami
is playing right now in the MAC Tournament. Game is
at the half. Eastern Michigan and the RedHawks tied at
(00:40):
twenty nine. A couple of other scores of notes, specifically
if if you're a Xavier fan. Indiana lost today in
the Big Ten Tournament, seventy two to fifty nine North Carolina.
As you heard Paul Frishman mention did hold on to win,
pulled away late Beatwake Forest sixty eight to fifty nine.
So they will play Duke tomorrow without Cooper flag apparently,
(01:01):
who went down with a pretty rough looking ankle injury
in that game. Also in the SEC Tournament tonight, Kentucky
battles Oklahoma Texas right now up seven on Texas A
and M under eight to go sixty two to fifty five.
The score there. Arkansas lost to Ole Miss eighty three
to eighty. The Reds are trailing the A's four to one.
(01:23):
Someone named Evan Kravitz gave up three runs in the
top of the ninth inning without giving up an out Oakland, Sacramento, Reno, Vegas,
misquite whatever you want to call him up for one.
Bengals made it official they have brought back samaj p
Ryn and they have signed TJ.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Slaton.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
All right, this gentleman has become, I think the star
of the college basketball season. Who's not Cooper Flag. He
is the NKY bracket guy. He has turned into for
our show what he has been for a long time
on social media, A valuable resource at NKY guy. His
name is Hunter Sansong and we wanted to get him
(02:04):
on after the Xavier game today either win or lose,
and he's with us now. I think Xavier's loss is
a little bit different than say, Ohio State last night,
where that felt like the bubble burst for the Buckeyes,
and I think you could speak to that with a
little bit more certainty than you can with Xavier, where
maybe they end up being on the outside looking in.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
But I do feel like all hope is not lost.
Would you agree?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I completely agree Ohio State is done. They're headed to
not the NCAA tournament. I think Xavier will still be
in the bracket as of today, but they are very precarious.
You've got North Carolina, You've got Texas, You've got Boise State,
you get uc Irvine, all sorts of different teams playing
behind them that are still playing and winning in their
(02:51):
conference tournaments right now.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Give me the combination of things that should make Xavier
fans really really nervous.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
So, I mean they're gonna be either the first or
the last team or the second to last team in
I mean, we've still got conference tournaments in the American
that I know Cincinnati fans are very familiar with. That
is typically a big stealer. I mean, Memphis is the
only team there that's gonna go dancing unless somebody wins
that tournament. Maybe Memphis loses and somebody like a UAD
gets in that takes a bid away a Boise State.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
In the Mountain West.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
They're very competitive this year, it's been very competitive. They've
looked good at the end of the year. I think
they could go on a run. And then you see Irvine.
I know we don't talk a ton about the Big West,
small little conference out in the West coast, but you
see San Diego is clearly in the tournament right now,
and they've got a better resume than Zager does. You
(03:44):
see Irvine sitting right behind him. Let's say you see
Irvine picks up a win or two and ends up
upsetting you see San Diego to take the automatic bid.
I could see San Diego getting in over Exavier. So
lots to be worried about. If you're a musket here.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Yeah, it's gonna be a very nervous next couple of days.
But right now, you think if the if the bracket
we're being we're being drawn up today, Xavier would be in.
But then you'd have to talk about getting tickets to
you the arena Tuesday or Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Absolutely, I think right now I have them paired with
North Carolina, so that could be a fun matchup in
hypothetical world. But I have them as my one of
my twelve seeds right now in Dayton.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
All right, Ohio State done correct?
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Indiana done correct?
Speaker 3 (04:28):
No, Indiana is my third to last team in They
are done with their conference tournament. But I think the
barring some chaos, they might just make it in your bracket.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
This morning had Dayton among the fourth in the group
of last four out. Can the Flyers get an at
large bid?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Theoretically? Yes, I know if you all listen to the show.
We have talked about this multiple times. We are going
to be relying on the committee to actually value the
conference tournaments. If Dayton's going to get a bid, So
it's up in the the's hands. It's gonna be sketchy,
but there is a path three.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Date and I believe if Kentucky wins the greatest basketball
tournament of all time, the seceed tournament, what's.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
The ceiling two seed?
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Has the strength of the SEC meant that there's been
very little movement among the top two seed lines.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yes, the first seven seeds at this point are pretty
much set. That eighth number eight overall, that last two seed,
it's the one that I was referring to about Kentucky.
If they win, most of the first seven are SEC teams,
but that eighth seed could pop to A, Texas tech A,
Saint John's, Kentucky, Texas, A, and M are all in
play for.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
That is Louisville in a position where they basically can't
move because the ACC is not very good and they're
sort of stuck in that seven range.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
No, I don't think so. I think Louisville if they
were to lose today, I think they played tonight. If
they were to lose their first game in the Big
or the acc AT Tourney, things could get sketchy and
they could fall in eight, and they could also jump
all the way up to like, let's say a six.
That sixty eight line is very tight and there could
be some movement still.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Wes Miller said after his team lost yesterday that he
was pleased that his team played hard for thirty five minutes.
Do you think the committee will give that special consideration?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
If they get that special consideration, there's gonna be a
line of teams out the door and then they explained
about the day.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
All right, So if you were a betting man, and
you may or may not be based on where things
stand right now, you would have Xavier in but playing in.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Dan if the tournament were to end today, I would
say that I don't know that it's gonna look like
that comes Sunday.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
All right.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
You know it's funny because like, on one hand, this
is exactly where you don't want to be, right.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
I mean, it's twisting in the wind.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
You're done, your team's done on Thursday in the conference tournament.
You gotta wait out the rest of today, all of Friday,
all of Saturday. You got to sit there until six
o'clock on selection Sunday. And it's agonizing. And yet, as
somebody who who roots for the other school in town,
I would I would cut off my arm.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
To be in that position right now.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, I've seen I've started seeing a lot of banter
between you see and X fans after X loss today
on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Best rivalry in the country if you ask me. But
I guarantee you that any UC fan would rather be
in this position than in the position that they're in.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
I would, I would concur all right, can can you
join us on when what you put out your final bracket?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
When when's your final projection coming? Out.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
It'll be out Sunday, probably between two and three pm.
I'll have pretty much everything finalized. I may, depending on
other results, have to put one out at like five
pm on Sunday. It'll just depend on kind of how
those championship games are going.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
All right, So follow Hunter at bracket NK why. That's
bracket NK why. And I would imagine you'll have constant
updates at least once a day between now in selection Sunday.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah, so daily c lists for the rest of the week.
After tomorrow, I'll move to trying to update probably two
or three times a day. But then any games that
have impacts, I'll put out a tweet about it, showing
where the team's moved in just kind of a vacuum
right there, right then and there.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
All right, So on Monday, I want to get you
on to talk about what you think the committee got right,
what it got wrong, and of course we have to
check your your your your final bracket against what the
committee puts together and see how you did.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Okay, sounds great, awesome, Ben, great having you do this.
Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, appreciate it, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
He's awesome. Follow him on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I still call it Twitter at bracket NKY you hear
the music, It's well before six o'clock. Let's be honest.
I completely screwed up the clock, but I think it
was worth it. Thank you for listening. Thanks to Paul
Frishner for joining us on not short notice, but he's
like getting paid to be there by other outlets and
(08:57):
not so gave us a few minutes. Thanks our guy,
the NKAY Bracket guy and our new friend Amy Robery
from Birmingham, a new listener and a new friend, and
hopefully hopefully we hear from her.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
I was got a lot of good feedback on that.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
We're back at it tomorrow at three oh five, so
that's exciting. And h we did not give away our
Jeff Ruby Steaks tickets because we got busy today. We'll
be busy tomorrow. I'm sure have an awesome night. Thank
