I think a lot of us view this game as
Texas has the best player, Xavier has the best team,
and quite frankly, I think they have the better coach.
Is that a fair way to look at this?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I don't think I could have said it much better
right there, because the way that Texas has built this
team this year. Now, I did an interview on The
Rebound Rundown earlier this week with one of Texas and
Beat writers, and he said, it's basically an AAU team, right,
It's a collection of individuals. It's not a great tea.
They went thirteen and fifteen this year. In meaningful games,
MO they went nineteen and fifteen overall, but they went

six to zero in their by games, so in really
the games that mattered, they had a losing record thirteen
and fifteen. That's kind of unprecedented to see a team
like that make the NCAA tournament. They're here, they're gonna play,
and they have a top five draft pick, at least
a top ten draft pick, probably a top five draft pick,
and Trey Johnson, a freshman who was a absolute stud

in the SEC. The SEC's leading scorer is a freshman,
I mean, just a phenomenal player. Six six can score
at all three levels. What do the Musketeers do to
counteract that? I think in the last few weeks, Xavier's
done a really good job of taking away the opponent's
best player. You saw that against Ryan kok Runner in
that game against Creighton. It's ten tossed a couple of
weeks ago. Cam Jones didn't really kill you last week

in New York. He had a good game, but he
didn't really kill you. So I'm interested to see what
Seawn Miller in this coaching staff does tonight because Zaver's
going to get their look Xavier's for suregan get their
looks from three. Texas is not the most cohesive defensive unit.

I think you and I talked about this when you
were at Madison Square Garden after the Marquette came. And
I feel bad bringing this up because the way Xavier
defended over the final one third of the season was
not reflected by how they defended laid against Marquette. And
so I'm just kind of curious, and it's it's not
a very large sample size, but it killed their stay
in New York and put their status as a bubble team.

It crystallized it very much. So I'm kind of curious defensively,
which Xavier team shows up the one that couldn't get
stops against the good Marquette team or the one that
routinely got stops when it needed it over the final
three or four weeks of the season.

Yeah, and that's the biggest question tonight, because if you
have a collection of individuals on this Texas team and
they fall asleep sometimes defensively, and Dager can score and
get their shots, they can get their looks from three, well,
if you're giving it back up on the other end,
it stated the obvious it's going to be a long night.
So for Xavier defensively here, I don't think you're too
intimidated by Cayden Schedrick. They're six' eleven big man inside

when you Have Zach fremantle to counteract, THAT i wouldn't
be too intimidated By texas's size on the. Interior they're
a very athletic team that can get to the. Basket
Arthur koluma is the name that if you're A xavier
fan listening to, this you recognize from two years. Ago
he played a couple of seasons At creighton before he
went To Kansas state and now has ended up In.
Texas so they have, Athletes they have great athletic you,

While no. Doubt AND i think if you look at
the coaching, staff to go back to your point from,
Earlier Adam, cohen the associate head, coach he has experienced
in this game tonight. Twice in, fact he was on
The vanderbilt staff that lost To Wichitas state a handful
of years ago in the first four In. Dayton That
Wichita state team then went and Smacked Sean Miller's arizona

team in the first round of THE ncaa. Tournament and
so the coaching staff has experience from both sides of.
This in, Fact Bryan, anderson who's also an assistant On xavier's,
staff he played in that game For. Arizona so there's
a lot of experience all over the. Place and that's
WHY i, say if You're Sean, miller you know that
a team that wins their game And dayton and then
has to go play the next, weekend you know a

the matchup live because right Now illinois preparing For xavier
and For. Texas if You're xavier and you walk up
To milwaukee and you have a chance to Beat, illinois
who yeah their best this year mo has been a two,

would be very confident IF i Was xavier that you
get a win under your belt tonight for a team
that doesn't have a lot OF ncaa tournament, Experience you
get that weight off your, back you win a. Game
that's WHY i think a lot of people would say
that The musketeers are dangerous in this.

Thing how does this season get categorized if they lose

WIN i thought a lot about, that AND i think
taking a step back and looking at what they, lost
the fact that you lost your starting center just a
few weeks before the season started and you had to
readjust expectations to what this team could. BE i think

weeks missing two of the most important games on their,
