he's batting three sixty, Five he's clubbed five. Homers his

to hit at that, level but he missed time to
start the season with THE caf, issue now out with the,
hamstring AND i don't know what we do with, this
but it is it is Information i'm going to give. You,
Nonetheless Austin hayes has been on the injured list a lot.

Like in, FACT i go back, to if you really
want a nitpick, here back when he was with The
Booie Bay. Socks AS i look at HIS mlb Dot com,
PROFILE i see twenty different stints on the injured. List
that's not entirely. ACCURATE i see ten different stints on
the injured. LIST i cut it in. Half but, still man,

like over the course of his professional, career there's lots of,
hamstrings lots of. Calfs there was the kidney infection last,
year which is kind of a different, STORY i. DON'T
i think sometimes people go overboard when they criticize an
athlete for being hurt and they make it out to
be some sort of character flaw that's not. It But

Austin hayes' injury history is substantial and that doesn't mean
that he was a bad pick. Up that doesn't mean
The red shouldn't have gone and gotten. Him when he has,
played he has been. Awesome you. Know, Reliability like we've
talked about that as it relates To mat McLay ma
McLain's got to start, producing got to start, hitting but reliability,
matters and With Austin, hayes there's been a bit of

a track, record certainly when it comes to leg, injuries, calf.
Hamstring THE caf issue that put him on the inje
list to start the season was his left. Leg this
hamstring issue is his left. Leg there's just a lot
of injuries. There there's just a lot of instances where
some sort of injury has had him miss. Time hopefully
this is the sort of thing that he can come

back from, quickly come back and help the team get
off the injured list and continue to continue to produce
at the level that he was. Producing but oh, boy
there's a lot, there so that's gonna be worth paying attention.
To Tyler. Stevenson his, back which is, great obviously hasn't
played yet this. Season he is going to be dhing.
Tonight And Terry francona has the luxury of having a

really good catching. Situation Jose travino has been one of
the best catchers in all Baseball, Offensively Austin wins has
certainly hit when he has gotten his. Opportunities Austin wins
has been really good at throwing out. Runners Jose travino
has maybe not been quite as good this, year haunted
a little bit by That Alexis diaz game where he
gave up four stolen bases in one. Inning the good

news is you call Up Tyler stevenson and you don't
have to catch. Him the bad news is The reds
are not getting much production from first base and to a,
degree not getting a ton of production FROM dh and
so you, know you don't necessarily have to disrupt things at,
catcher and you, know With Tyler, stevenson it's that oblique

issue that put him on the injury list to start the.
SEASON i don't know If i'm good at catcher with
WHAT i have right, now which The reds. ARE i
don't know that you have to Have Tyler stevenson catch
when he's coming off an oblique. Injury so the good
news is we now have THE dh in both, leagues
so he COULD. Dh he could obviously also play first

base as. Well has played a decent amount of first.
Base if you're thinking About Tyler stevenson in the, outfield
he has played all of One major league inning in
The outfield's that's not SOMETHING i really want to try
on the. Fly but the good news Is Tyler stevens

on since he three to, sixty and he was asking,
you asking those in his audience and folks on social
media about the level of concern For matt. McClain so to,
me WHAT i Sometimes i'll answer questions with. Questions my question, is,
well concern about, what concern about? What like concern about

whether or Not matt McClain can can, be you, know
one of those foundational pieces The red's built around moving.
Forward i'm not concerned about that at. All is it
concerned that maybe he was a tad overrated by this
franchise when they dran him when they promoted him a

That is it concerned that he's never gonna be the
sort of player they thought he could. Be i'm not
really concerned about. That i'm not making those judgments based
on a very small sample. Size AM i concerned about
his ability, though to help the team in the short? Term, yeah, yes,

mean there's a decent amount of evidence to the contrary

buy all The matt McClain. Stock BUT i will also
tell you the idea for The reds this season is to, win,
compete compete for a playoff. SPOT i, believe AND i
don't think this is that far fetched to. STATEMENT i
believe The reds right now represent the best chance to

beat out The Chicago cubs to win The National League
Central but those chances are, undermined if you, will if
a certain position's not holding its weight, offensively or if
a certain player isn't producing to the level that you
need him. To, like The reds don't Need matt McClain

maybe to be as good as he was in twenty
thirteen over eighty nine or ninety, games they do need
him to better than he has been when at the,
plate he has looked. Lost he has not made frequently
very hard, contact he has struck out a, Bunch he's
not given him competitive at bats like you can do.
BOTH i think there's room for multiple. Truths one thing

you could do is, Say i'm excited That matt McClain's
a part of this, franchise And i'm excited for what
his future, holds and believe that over the course of
this season he'll end up helping this. Team but right
now he's. Not and the games The reds are playing
now they do, matter and their chances of winning them
are compromised just a little bit if you've got a

guy batting second who's not contributing anything. Offensively AM i
concern That matt McLean's gonna? Suck? No AM i concern
That matt McClain's gonna be a? Bust? No AM i
a little bit worried that The reds aren't gonna be
able to win as many games as they should as
long As matt McClain is. Struggling that's putting a lot
on one baseball. Player are there reasons to think about

his role on the, team hitting, second or even starting
on a regular basis well until he increases his. Production
the answers, are, yes it's not concerned about long. Term
it's not thinking that they got it wrong with this.
Guy It's The reds are trying to win a lot
of games right. Now having more players who are at
their best helps their chances of doing. That some players

have been at their, Best Gavin, Lux Jose travino when
he has played, Obviously Austin, Hayes Elie Dela. Cruz Elie
Dela cruz is having a nice, season maybe not having
the season that everybody hoped for so, far but they need,
More they need. Help they Need matt McClean to pull his.
Weight maybe don't need him to be as good as

he was two years, ago but they need him to
be better than he has been over the last couple of.
Weeks and, SURE i think it's fair to be concerned
about whether or not The reds will start to get
that production from him here in the short, term even
