Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's to win one thousand dollars entered this nationwide keyword
on our website.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Win.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
That's win.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Enter it.
Speaker 4 (00:07):
Now you found Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 5 (00:10):
All right, you sure have what's up? Good afternoon, five
minutes after three o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I'm O Edgar.
Speaker 5 (00:16):
Thank you for listening. I hope you're having an awesome
Tuesday afternoon. It's Tuesday, which means our friend Paul Taylor
Junior is here covering the Bengals for the Athletic as
well as the Growler podcast. And here's the good news
for Paul, maybe the bad news for us. So both
Zach Taylor and Joe Burrows spoke just a short while ago,
(00:38):
within the last ninety minutes, and neither really made news.
Thank god, Thank God for you, Oh thank God for me.
I need the content machine to keep cranking.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Man.
Speaker 6 (00:49):
Look it's late May. Let's go look day. What day
are you into on the Trey Hendrickson? How many straight
days is it? Seventy two straight days?
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Seventy two day?
Speaker 6 (01:00):
Yes, I mean two days of ninety one, so I
mean day three. You have some fresh content. This is
gonna have to get you from like day three to
day ten. Everything that was said today, but not a.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Lot was That's the problem, I know, was not a
lot of meat on the bone today. Yeah, there's all
There's plenty of time. I'm sure there will be something
that why.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
I mean, I actually thought some of the things said
by both men were interesting in relation to other topics. Yeah,
but I needed I needed some gasoline port on the
Trey Hendrickson fire, which is still smoldering.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
No, that did not happen to me. It did not happen.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
I actually thought, you know, Burrow, this this wasn't the
same tone that you heard back in January in regards
to this situation, and that I think is the big
takeaway that was kind of mine was this wasn't we
talked about this last week.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's what's he gonna say?
Speaker 6 (01:46):
Is it gonna be you gotta pay my guy, or
is it gonna be a little bit more well, I
don't know. It was kind of a little bit more
to the I want to try to get paid. Yeah,
I love Trey. He's unique. And there was even a
you know, might want to have that and back I
think got dropped at one point, like I'm sure, he
has some things, but he's doing his best for his career.
A lot of appreciation for trash, sure, but it didn't come.
(02:07):
It was also kind of a we'll see where this goes.
It wasn't a you know, they want him to be
on the team and all that stuff, but there was
no the organization needs to make this right type of
feel that that was the feel with everything back in January.
So it was a little bit of a dial back
while still supporting this guy, I.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
Thought he I thought he successfully navigated answering it truthfully,
I'm sure, while also not making.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
News being a good teammate.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
But I think allowing the rest of us to kind
of read into things like tone and the exact verbiage.
Speaker 6 (02:38):
Yeah, well, and it's just easier to do when you've
heard what the other side sounds like. We know what
aggressive press sounds like now, and it's blunt.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
We're gonna play him back to back later on. That's
a smart move.
Speaker 6 (02:50):
Yes, that's the way to do it, because you know,
we've we've heard blunt and aggressive and so this was
this was supportive teammate, but not necessarily you know, forceful employee.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
Nothing that had to make you skip this appearance on
this show to go write an emergency column.
Speaker 6 (03:09):
No, thank goodness, I did not need another Tuesday where
we hear Trey Hendrickson's music playing outside and then he comes,
you know, repelling down into the press conference or something. No,
thank goodness. It was a clean, a clean availability.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
What did Joe talk about that, in your opinion, was
at least somewhat interesting.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
I'm interested right now by off season, Joe, Like, and
I find.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
You asked a question about the Matt Gallan Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Well, and really more like, what is kind of he's
really navigating this fine line between enjoying building or having
a public image and the things that his fame is
kind of allowing him to do while also being an
incredibly private person. And I just think you're seeing we've
(03:56):
seen him now over the last few years kind of
grow into this little by little and he's really trying
to do it. And I thought he spoke words that
I bet a lot of people not in a long day.
I just just want to have a nice dinner, yeah, right,
where I have some privacy and some people that I
like that are cool people, and I can hang out
with them and go about my day and just say
that was a good time.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Phelia on that one, right, Like that's great. I totally agree.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
But his point of it's just really hardest guy who's
dealt with the privacy word in his whole life here,
I mean with every and but yet here he is
at the met Gala on quarterback in Paris last year,
like he's doing these things but while also so cognizant
of everything he does, is still through the lens of
(04:42):
privacy and not wanting to feel like he is having
to give up give that up in any way, but
still be able to do things and find social circles
he can be in, and I appreciate. I just think
it's it's fascinating to see him go through this next
level of his sort of off season and personality building.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Yeah, it's a little enigmatic, it's mysterious, but it's uh,
he's giving just enough of himself, right, He's putting just
enough out there. He's not on a thousand different commercials
and who knows, maybe that changes if they win one.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
It it's maybe not the most fair comparison, but it
reminds me a little bit of Brady as a player.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
Yeah, Well, like now we know everything about Tom Brady
and he's on Instagram and he's on TV. But like
there was a time where, you know, Peyton Manning was
doing Oreo cookies commercials and Tom Brady wasn't, and he
just there was sort of like he was in a
different strata, you know, from a societal standpoint, and Peyton
was the guy that you could kind of relate to
because he was doing Oreo cookie commercials and Brady was different.
(05:47):
I think Joe sort of leans more into the Brady
aura while Tom was for the most part an.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
Active player, absolutely, And I just I think he wants
what so many of us want. You just want control
of sort of your own privacy and message, like he
I think he wants, Like he talks about the desire
to grow the game, like he has things that he
wants to do and he's trying to do. We obviously
know his desire to help with with what his foundation does,
(06:13):
like we we know this is out there, but he's
he's trying to keep control over he doesn't and you
lose it in many ways when you will for in
his case, leaves his front door, goes anywhere, or just
you know, if you're trying to do something and your
personality ends up in the hands of some business or
whoever you're doing endorsements for.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
And I understand.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
I don't understand through his you know what he has
to deal with, but I understand feeling that way, like
you just want to feel like you have some control
over a situation that can be really really hard to
control and conspiral Immediately. I mean, this man, if he
was up there and would have said anything sideways or
the wrong way today, it would have been news across
all the channels. Yeah, And so I understand that you
(06:58):
just you go through enough of this and then you
have other things you've gone through. You just want to
feel like you have a little bit of control of yourself,
of your privacy, will also be able to kind of
live a fulfilling life of a twenty year old. So
I just I find it fascinating, which.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
Is why I'm excited to see how he's portrayed on
Quarterback Yeah, which is the show on Netflix which I
think is really well done. I will admit to you
the first season of it, I didn't find the individual
quarterbacks interesting enough that the show itself really kept my attention,
But I thought it was really well done. You know,
Zach Taylor talked about there's sort of a Hard Knocks
element to it. They're kind of used to, you know,
(07:32):
Hard Knocks being around the building last year for HBO,
and so it's not nearly as intrusive. A lot of
it's done mechanically, and Zach talked about that today, but
he also talked about how this is really sort of
nuts and bolts football, where you know, folks get a
chance to see what the quarterback does all week long.
The amount of time and I'm paraphrasing here, time and
effort and preparation and minushit that goes into getting ready
(07:54):
to play on Sunday, and how how they framed that
around Joe I think is going to be really interesting.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
I think it's gonna be a lot of the stuff
that you maybe wanted to see on Hard Knocks, yes,
that you didn't that we talked about for Hard Knocks,
thinking like, oh, okay, it'll be cool to see Joe Moore
in the meetings or or in some of his off
field stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And that wasn't as much.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
You know, certainly there was some of that, but that
wasn't as much a part of what Hard Knocks ended
up being so I think it does give you a
chance to to kind of start to see that stuff
in Joe a little bit, and also kind of back
to the control thing. It's a lot easier to do
and to agree to when it's something Peyton Manning is
connected to where you have a relationship and everything Peyton
(08:36):
does it turns to gold and you know it's good.
You know he's gonna be looking out for you, and
it's just you know, it's just very clearly picking his
spots on where he can and will be willing to
do these things that put him out there publicly. And
I think I would wonder and we didn't ask the specifically,
which is amazing, becuding how many questions asked about quarterback today,
(08:58):
But like would you have done it? Would it have
been done without someone like Peyton specifically being at the
head of it, just by the nature of a full
understanding of exactly you know, what you're going through and
what you care about.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I like the fact that Joe mentioned the schedule the
Baltimore game.
Speaker 6 (09:13):
Both both guys kind of just saying look, the please
at the end, isn't that is kind of the point
of like, please, can can you adjest at what's some point.
I think it shows that that that landed inside the building,
and I think that was obvious.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
And look, look you gotta go play who they put
on the schedule. I think that they'll obviously be the
first to acknowledge that if the season goes sideways, it's
not going to be well stupid NFL and NBC made
us play on Thanksgiving Night in Baltimore. But still, like
we talked about this a great link last week, how
could you not throw up your hands, whether you're a
fan of the team or someone on the team, or
(09:48):
someone who works for the team, or someone who owns
the team when they put him in Baltimore for a
four straight year in primetime, I know they're going to
host the Steelers on a Thursday night, That in itself
isn't going to be easy. How could you not see
how this schedule unfolded and throw your hands up and go,
come on, really? And the fact that Joe did that
and Zach did that, I liked it.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
Like, yeah, I mean they feel slighted, and you when
stuff like that happens, you do take it a little
bit personal. It's like when you just set the NFL
record for most road primetime games, and you get set
up for three more, including your primary rival that you've
had to do this against. Yeah, you're you're gonna say something.
And this is also one of those environments where they
can't get fined. I don't think for saying anything. That's
(10:28):
it's kind of a little bit of shot at the
league and the schedule makers. Whereas stuff that comes after games,
you know, you end up where you're like, okay, I'm
not Maybe they'd want to say things, but they hold
back to save themselves financially. This is like, no, we're
not gonna sit here and quietly take this and just
feel disrespected and you say, oh, sorry, sorry, we can't
worry of a home game maybe next year. Right, No,
(10:49):
they're not gonna sit there and quietly take it, and
nor should they, nor should they good like it.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
It makes things harder.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Both guys talked and said nice things about Jermaine Burton there.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Yes, yes, doing what was I believe it was doing
all he.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Can do right now. Yes, that's right now, right now,
doing everything right right now.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Joe talked about maturity, which was good baby steps for Jermaine.
Speaker 6 (11:13):
Absolutely right now. Doing the right things is all you
it's all you can say. And I think any hopes
beyond that are strictly that hopes.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
So we are we're going to go through.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
We're in phase two still and then uh phase three
is O t as Yeah, and then the mini camp
and then there's like five weeks off. That's what I'm
going to be watching for Germaine. Does he come back
after the five weeks off?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
We good?
Speaker 6 (11:36):
That's what I want to say. Is he still living
at the facility? Is he is he down there all
the time? Is he showing up in the off time?
Speaker 7 (11:41):
Even?
Speaker 6 (11:42):
Oh, that'd be interesting, you know, turn his thing down there.
I I you know, hopes are nice.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
I hope. I hope for his sake that he.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Does put it together and and is able to rebuild
some of that trust.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
I need you when we come back to help me
understand the Shamar Stewart thing, which is probably not a
big deal, but it's annoying.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
It's annoying. All right, We're gonna.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Get to that when we come back. Plus we have
a few other things to discuss, some of which don't
involve the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Wow. Yeah, ooh, I'm excited about that.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
Necessarily eye opening just when I look at my piece
of paper and I see the word tush.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Push, it just makes me smile.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
I had to look on my face like I had
something really fun for you.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Not really.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
It's the middle of the off season. Seventeen after three o'clock.

If you haven't listened to Power Stacks with Brian Geeseon's
log and Charlie Goldsmith, an excellent listen on the state
of the Reds, which right now the state of the
(13:42):
Reds is good. I will tell you this. Will Benson
is not in the starting lineup tonight. So my suspicion
is he's the guy who killed the pigeon. Do we
have the latest? What's the latest on the pigeon?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Is he okay? Do we know? Is there like a
life support situation that's.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Happening or original reporting by Charlie Yeah, I saw it
was the pigeon was killed by an unnamed Reds player.
Then he sort of came back and said, actually the
pigeon is still with us, but he's on life support.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I haven't seen an update in the last twenty four hours.
But Will Bentson is the hottest hitter in baseball right now.
The only rational for not playing him bring something that
we you know, hope is not the case, would be
that either he is being punished for killing the pigeon,
or he is distraught and inconsolable and thus incapable of playing.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
I don't know. I don't know. I couldn't help, but thinking,
are you a Monty Python person? It's been years?
Speaker 6 (14:35):
Yes, the scene where they say bring out your dad
and I'm.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Not dead yet. I think I'll go for a walk,
you know. I just feel like this pigeon, He's like,
I'm not dead yet. I don't know. I don't know
what happens when when a pigeon gets hit by something?
Do you administer last rites? I don't know how this works.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
Is there like a is there like a small This
is bad for radio, But I'm using my thumbs to
do some sort of like you know, some sort of
a maneuver when we're to do CPR on the Have
you ever have we ever tried CPR on the pigeon?
Speaker 1 (15:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
I'd watch that. Forget quarterback. This is a reality show
i'd watch.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
I guess what I want to know, and maybe this
is a question I'll pose to Charlie at some point,
why not name the player?
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Who was it? Who was the player? Who was the player,
And is there an investigation being done? Something bad happened.
You assume it was an accident.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Nobody's like, hey, watch me hit this BP pitch for
a line drive. That's going to murder a pigeon. Back
in the day, back in the day.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
At spring training that we were, when I was at
the Inquirer, they had they were testing out a new
they were at testing a new camera and it was
like a three sixty type deal they were going to use,
and they set it up on top on the BP
cage right like right out by the way picture is end,
and Joey says, I'm gonna hit that, and they threw
They threw it and he, like the first.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Pitch basically swings hits the camera with it.
Speaker 6 (15:57):
So Wow, Outside of Joey Vass know who I believe
could have hit the pigeon if he wanted to. Wow,
I don't know that anybody has that type of back
control from that distance.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
But we don't know. I'm I'm interested, though I need more.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Well, we'll see if we can get a dispatch from Pittsburgh.
As to the status of the pigeon and why Will
Benson is not playing. The other thing today from Zach
Taylor is shot down the idea of another joint practice.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeah, because this this.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Training camp and off season is different because they actually
have to win games to start the season now, right
and improve upon that awful record in September. And so
is this just can't find a team? Do you think,
is this we're just gonna kind of blow up how
we've done training camp the last few years.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Why no joint practice?
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Yeah, I just I just don't think it was was
a match in terms of the way they did it.
But also I think they're making up for that by
players playing in the actual game instead of the joint practice.
So it feels like that's where the lean has been,
is that, look, let's let's get him into real game conditions,
like maybe the joint practices weren't as football realistic as
(17:04):
we wanted them to be, you know, partially, and so
you can get back into them playing. So I think
that's part of it. That's interesting. You know, Joe kind
of mentioned it casually that they're they're running more. It
seems like right now they're working more on their condition
right now than they have in the past, to make
sure that's more up, and then obviously the lean into
what they're going to do in the preseason game seems
(17:25):
to kind of be the two pronged approach to being
a little more ready week one. Of course, as long
as that comes with a fully healthy Joe Burrow, I
feel like it. You know, they shouldn't have any problem
getting off to a fast start. I just think that's
it's kind of the thing that we get so used
to seeing it, and I do think that like a
(17:45):
lot of this stuff is real, but it's so much
of like, well, if Joe Burrow is fully healthy at
the beginning of the season without any pre existing issues,
they're a different team and he just hasn't been. I know,
we gloss over it because we want to make it
about so much more like participating in OTAs and how
hard are they going and playing the preseason. I just
(18:08):
for ninety percent of it, you know, go back to
I don't know, is Burrow like ready to roll week
one because I constantly have the injury stuff, So I
to me, I think there's a portion of this that
is one hundred percent right, Like they need to approach
it differently. They should be approaching it differently. They probably
need to be more physical. Guys probably need to play
in the preseason. I also think they just need fully healthy.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
No issue. Joe Burrow Week one. Yeah, I'm not gonna
watch the preseason games.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
It's gonna be tough. Only bad things happen in preseason game.
I mean, I will starters play, I will find out
what happened during them, and then watch so I can
offer some sort of comment on them. But it's I
was thinking about what it's going to be like when
my daughter gets her driver's license.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
I mean, just I'm gonna shut down, like.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
Watching Joe Burrow and players who matter playing games that don't.
It has to happen, it's necessary, evil I want them to.
I don't think I'll be able to watch. Yeah, and
I will have an easier time if the Knicks are
in Game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals dealing with
that emotionally. Then watching Bengals players who matter playing games
that don't count, well, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
You're certainly trotting out Cody Ford and Lucas Patrick and
not Dylan Fairchild in that preseason game.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
When you're out there.
Speaker 6 (19:20):
That's the other thing is like, what are you dealing
with if there's a couple of dings. If Ted Carris
and a Marius Mims have a couple of dings and
they're not a part of it, are you even like,
are you even bothering? There's many ways and he you knows,
Zach Taylor kind of can he keeps leaving it out
in those as you should? Sure, Like, look if things
change in precs, if we're out there and like too
many guys are hurt, we're not going to do it.
(19:42):
And I think it's if you don't have pretty much
all of your starting five offensive linemen, there's there's no
reason to do anything other than go out there and
hand off. If that's what this is about. But I
don't think that is what this is about. I think
they want to go out there and run real offense.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
I mean, Joe was healthy for Game one last year,
but didn't look right right, didn't look them U. I
want I want to one Joe Burrow who looks like
he's within the flow of what they're trying to do.
So if he's got to play in those games, fine,
I'm all in. Boy, that's going to be nerve wracking man. Yeah,
and I think there's a thought that he needs to
play more. Yeah it than a little uh say, I
(20:17):
I don't and like play for real, like take he
to say, take a hit and roll out and throw
and run the offense and throw deep and look like
you're going to be as to look in September.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
That comes with it such a bad risk comes to
the bad risk. But you know what, but you're trying
to set yourself up to have.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
A fast start, right, you have to you have to
all right, I am late. When we come back, I
need you to explain what they're doing or not doing
with Shamar Stewart.
Speaker 1 (20:49):

tonight in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, looking for a sixth consecutive victory.
Nick Martinez, who's been terrific his last four starts against
Lefty Bailey falters six forty tonight on seven hundred. Wlw's
(22:17):
starting lineup tonight does not include Will Benson. We have
not gotten confirmation if it's because he hit the pigeon
in batting practice yesterday, but the starting lineup does include
TJ Friedel and center. Espinall's a third Ellie Austin Hayes
at at left field, Spencer Steers playing first base, Stevenson's
dhing Jose Travino is catching McLean at second base even
(22:38):
though I wrote shortstop down for some reason. Connor Joe's
in right field tonight. Also tonight, the Florence Freedom are
hosting a gateway at six forty two.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
So there you go. That's all you need to know.
All you need to know.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Those are your sports headlines. No real headline grabbing things
from the Bengals today.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
Right, Not really? It was pretty Uh, it was pretty tame.
I think, all things considered, what it could have been.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Our stewart is around, but he's not going through practice.
Can you explain to me why this is the case.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
There is a dispute over language in the contract essentially,
or allocation of whatever small percentage of money guarantees, all
that stuff in the in the contract which is pre set.
But they are like you can have haggle points. I mean,
not everybody is signed. There's a lot of first runners
(23:28):
that aren't signed, and so Schamar is not gonna participate
until the deal is done.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
The deal is not done. There's he's not no waiver
to be sometimes just a waiver you can sign. Everything's
good here in case there's anybody gets he gets hurt.
There's no waiver here, there's no signed waiver, and so
he's watching it. Here's it.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Here's if you I can paint a picture for you
of what happened today. Jerry Montgomery has the new defensive line, yes,
thank you, has all his linemen in front of him
and they are practicing, you know whatever the new verbages.
So everybody knows to get into whatever position and do
(24:11):
these these rushes. There's no offensive lineman or anything. It's
just guys lining up. And he just says, uh, stu,
since since you're here, comes stand next to me, and
you're the running back. So there he is, he's the
running back. And so they go on. They all the
guys are doing their past rush moves and they end
up right next to Shamar Stewart right and it's like, oh,
(24:32):
there's there.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
He is as a running back. That's what he's doing
right now. He's there.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
Or if they're doing moves around one of the you know,
one of the dummies, the tackling dummies, he stands next
to it, right, and so then they go and do
like moves around him so he to have a good view,
get in themental reps. But like it's like it just
all feels so silly. It all feels so silly. It's
(24:56):
like how, how how is this happening? Like I, for one,
and I said this, I've said this at every turn
and last week with you as well. I I think
it's minimum makes minimal.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Difference that he's not actually out there showing the work.
Speaker 6 (25:09):
Like there's something to being out there. I'm not saying none,
but this is not hard charge in practice, okay, And
he's in all the meetings. He's literally standing next to
the dummies. Uh, he's he's out there. You know, he
sees and you hear what's going on. The the installation
of understanding where you need to go, what you need
(25:32):
to do is there. I I don't think that there
is some massive loss in like the time on the
field doing the said moves for that hour that they're
out there that's actually happening.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
It's just silly.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
Yes, it's just silly that that that you can't something
that is a lay up can't just be finished. Here
this is there's no reason to be messing around with this,
there's other than some dumb stand Like I I just
I don't understand why everybody can't just be like, hey,
this is domb right, Well, I admit this is stupid.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Can we just like fix it right now? Let's just
go fix.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Something like you'll hear, well it's just language, it's not
that big of a deal. Well, if it's just language
and not that big of a deal, fix it, fix it.
I don't have an answer for you on that one,
other than why does it always.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Have to be like this?
Speaker 5 (26:22):
There's nothing else to do, there's no I mean, if
they're not going to negotiate more with Trey Hendrickson, why
not at least say hey, let's just let's just check
this box and get this done and clear up whatever
the dispute is.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
And why can't I don't understand.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
What I don't understand is it's not like I mean,
they picked it almost the exact same spot last year.
Just copy and paste the men's contract, Like do just
just end this? The guy is able has signed, who's
right there next to him, Like, just end it, sign this,
And it's a silly charade.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
But it's what it is right now. Jermaine Pratt is
still a Cincinnati Bengue, don't.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
I don't know, I mean I I do.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
I think it's just one of these things where they're like, look,
whatever they're trying to do, is it is there? Are
they holding off for somebody who maybe showed interest in
the trade. There's something that there's some reason to hold
off on other than to just I cannot imagine how
Jermaine Pratt must be ready to like just jump off
(27:23):
his roof at this point, to be like, let me go,
let me go get a team.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Right.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
No, I there's some whole there's no threat of Jermaine
Pratt being back, but there is clearly some type of
a well maybe if we hold on long enough, they'll
give us something in a.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Trade or whatever is going on there. Yeah, good luck
with that. Good luck with that.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
I you know, how long would it have to go
before they would go? Okay, Jermaine see it already.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
I'm with you there.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
But if it's like, well, you know, who knows, maybe
somebody loses a linebacker, Well they're gonna wait till training
camp to move the guy.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Right at this point, I don't know that how you
can say anything the definitive in this area.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
I I the draft was, I.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Mean it's almost been a month, yeah, right, So I
don't you know, I would have thought that it would
have been waiting for a release on seven am on
the Monday after the draft.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
I thought it was gonna be like Andy Dalton.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
And that's the under Yeah, And that's the understanding that
I think that that I thought that everybody had. But
there's something else that is like.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
The semantics argument where they go, well, you requested a trade,
not a release.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
So no, I think there's just some sort of whatever maneuvering.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
I don't know, somebody's thinking that they're doing something real
smart somewhere.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
I think it's just time to end it.
Speaker 5 (28:56):
I got the notification on my phone yesterday as a
season ticket hole that I can vote for the twenty
twenty five Bengals Ring of Honor class to vote for two.
It's all holdovers, and not to say that those holdovers
don't deserve to be in. You and I are an
agreement about this. We found about this for years. How
(29:16):
Dave Lapham wasn't put in last year I ridiculous. Frankly
An embarrassment, but whatever, so he's back, as are a
whole bunch of men who have been on the ballot before.
Is there any idea as to when they will add
newer figures to the ballot or are they just going
to wait for all those players to inevitably get in
before we see more modern players, you know, or maybe
(29:37):
a former coach.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
I think yes, I know there's a lot of talk
about that, Sam y e Sports Greg. I think there's
a recognition of the fact that, you know, this shouldn't
go on until you're down to saying, here's the two
guys left right, that there's gonna have to be a
point where something changed. I think there's a recognition of
that when that is, I don't I don't know exactly
(29:59):
when when that will be. It feels like it's getting close. Yeah,
it feels like it's time because you know, you get
into now an era of guys, you know, from ten
to fifteen years ago where it's relevant like and I
would say this, so much of why they did this
was bringing the recognition to players in not just for
(30:23):
having their name up there or like in the case
of Ken Riley, really prompted of let's honor these guys
before they pass away, but also to help pump up
guys that can maybe help fix their issue of not
getting guys in the Hall of Fame, of not feeling
like feeling a little, you know, screwed over by Canton here.
(30:45):
And when you have guys that are going to be
on the fringe, Geno Atkins is the first one that
comes to mind. You know, I think he's got a
good chance, but he's not a shoe in it.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Hall of Fame voting hasn't been kind of defensive tackles.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
It hasn't and and he's not in a Hall of Fame,
has been kind to, very outspoken in the media after
you after you all are done playing like there's not
a lot of guys who just let their play speak
for themselves and play a more anonymous position that get honored.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Now. Gino has some things going for him. He's got
a lot of sacks.
Speaker 6 (31:21):
He's who was on the All Decade team and and
all that.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
One of the most famous people to call in when
we played the famous game.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
The the most insane thing that's ever happened in the
history of your show is that we tried maybe every
day for his entire career to get him to talk.
And then you were just trying to give free tickets away.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
It was set away home run derby tickets and.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
It was who's the most famous person you could get
to call it? And it was Geno Atkins.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
I don't think I think the person who Gino called
in on behalf of did win. But Gino Atkins called
in unbelievable. Yes, unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Uh, but that's that's like, it's just that's the type
of thing that you would want to give as somebody
like Geno Eckotts from that era.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
And there will be others.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
You know, we could talk about aj Green in this
respect when he comes into the conversation another he'll be
a fringe guy for sure. Sure, And so these you'd
need to open it up at some point if you
want to accomplish one of the things that you started
this to accomplish. These are gonna be the next guys
that are gonna be up for the Hall of Fame.
I think you have to consider that pretty soon. And
(32:30):
it just gets weird when it's like, Okay, we're just
all just counting down until all these guys are in.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
I meanly just put them in.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
So there's nine people left on the ballot. They were
all on the ballot in twenty twenty one, which tells
me they're waiting for all these guys to go in.
If we do two a year every year for the
next four well then the one guy is gonna be
in twenty twenty nine on the outside looking in. I'm
you gonna you're gonna make You're gonna make Bob Trump.
You wait until he's eighty five years old. I mean,
(32:57):
legitimately gonna make Lamar Parrish, I'm sure is in his seventies,
are going to make him wait five more Like, I
have no idea who's going to be voted in, but
you can tell.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Jim Breach twenty twenty nine is going to be your year. Man, Like, yeah,
just put all these guys in.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
Put them in. You want to do it. You're saying there,
it's eventually gonna happen. And then once you do that,
then you can turn the process into whatever you want
it to be. You want it to be one every
year every two years, you want to be a little
bit more selective at that point, then that's fine. But
I think we're all under the emission that man how
would you feel if you're on this listen, you don't
(33:31):
get it right, like they're.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
All getting in.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
So just those do it and then get in and
then fix your process to be whatever you want it
to be going forward. And I you know, I don't
think that that's in the offing immediately, but it certainly
has to start to be part of the commersation.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Again, Bob Trumpy, I know this. He just turned eighty
years old.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Yeah, so you know what you don't want is another
scenario where the person's not there. Yeah, and so I
if you're acknowledging all nine of these guys are going
to get in. I see, No, it's it's your ring
of honor. You can bend the rules, change the rules
however you want. Yeah, what do you feel? How do
you feel about flag football in the Olympics with NFL players?
Speaker 6 (34:12):
I heard you guys talking about this with Tony and
Austin earlier, and it was I think the question was
bagged of who is the player from the Bengals that
you would want?
Speaker 1 (34:24):
Jake Browning? All right, yeah, Jake can sling it. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
Let Jake would love some notoriety show that he can
sling it.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Gold medal winning flag football quarterback Jake Browning, not Joe Burrow. Fine,
we just went. You know, I appreciate Joe, like, you know,
the Olympics.
Speaker 6 (34:42):
Sure again around all I appreciate it and like wanting
to grow the game and all this stuff. I appreciate that.
I don't know, man, Yeah, yeah. So it's one of
those they're gonna be a problem winning.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Okay. So there's things about this.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
Number One, it's it's like the US Olympic men's basketball
team from two different standpoints. One, if you're gonna be
allowed to play, I can't get mad if you choose
to play. It's like when players get voted into the
Pro Bowl. I prefer you didn't, and then the Pro
Bowl has changed. I prefer you didn't, But if you're allowed,
I can't get mad if you do.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Right.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Also, this is the ultimate no win. It's like US
Olympic men's basketball. If you win, nobody cares. If you
lose National emergency. So to me, if you're Joe Burrow
or anybody else and you go, okay, we're gonna go
to the Olympics and win flag football's gold medal, no
one will care. But if you lose even just a
(35:36):
game and pool play international incident.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
Yeah, being no win, Yeah I disagree. Be an Olympians
seems really cool.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Be an Olympians seems really cool until the sport that
you're supposed to win you don't win, but they're not
gonna lose. And getting to just be part of the
Olympic festivities in Los Angeles. So right, it's like you
to go somewhere cool. I've done La hard pass on
that one. So if I'm Joe Borrow, I get to
go back to La win a.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
Flag football gold medal in the same city where I
lost to Super Bowl and get no credit for it.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker 6 (36:13):
I just think being being a part of the ceremonies,
I mean, he maybe only shows up for the ceremonies
and like whatever, maybe maybe plays in just the gold
medal game, you know, it just shows up and slings
it a little in the gold Who are.
Speaker 5 (36:26):
These players on the teams that would be competing for
other countries. Who's on Sweden's flag football team?
Speaker 6 (36:33):
I'm interested, right, I'm interested in knowing is anybody has
anybody spotted Morritz bow Ringer?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Is he still around? Can Mobo go play for Germany?
Speaker 5 (36:41):
How many countries will field flag football teams? Do we
have tryouts? Is there a trial camp? The US men's
basketball they have a trial camp and then you go
and you'd volunteer your time and services and you get
cut and then we get to make fun of you
for being cut, Like screw that man, no win situation.
It's like the Super Bowl halftime show.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Why bother?
Speaker 6 (36:59):
You're just gonna get crucified play one bad note? Does
Chase Brown go play for Canada? Do we get that?
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Do we get some some Canadian rivalry here? Potential? I'm
just saying. I mean there's they got.
Speaker 5 (37:13):
A whole country as CFL players, they do, so there'd
be a competition there.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Yeah, I mean a lot of the CFL players are
also from around here.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
But only so many per team. There's specific rules. Yes,
should they ban the toush push? This is gonna happen
this week? This is this is this is one of
the stories this week. I would not no, I would
leave it, stop it. I would to stop it or
do it yourself and no one else.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
The fact, it's the fact that only the Eagles are
truly unstoppable at it says no, like I'm not now
I'm here for to hear have more conversation about the like,
can we stop it with the constantly pushing the ball
carrier with the scrums that happened everywhere on the field,
not just in the toush push like. I do think
that's gotten a little out of control because it's something
(37:58):
that they need to just be, you know, actually officiating.
But I don't know it'd be one thing if everyone
gets to third and one and just gets it every time.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
That's not the case.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
Teams are getting stopped at this all the time except Philadelphia,
so I for that case, I I would say.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
When this first came up, I was surprised to read
that the success rate isn't what the perception.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Is that it is.
Speaker 6 (38:22):
No, I mean, there's there's there's certainly plenty of teams
out there that are not very good at it. We've
watched the Bengals not Beird're not very good, of course
they're not. They haven't been good at a lot of
short yardage things.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Right.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
They don't let their quarterback or their quarterback doesn't want
to do sneaks, so you know, the touch push has
got to be on the books for them, and they
don't they're not good at that either.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Yeah, and just throw it all right, we covered it all.
What's left nothing? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (38:47):
Yeah, I mean we even we even went into deep
into the Olympics conversation, deeper than I than I got
to know about the Sweden flag football team.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
In four years. I guess three years when when we're handicapping, Look,
I'll do the research that you know, as somebody who
covers the NFL, like you might have to go cover.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
I would love to Olympics. I would love her to.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
I would actually love to stop covering the NFL just
to go cover the Olympics in la period. I love
the Olympics. Olympics are great and the stories are their
stories galore. I like the Summer Olympics more than the
Winter Olympics. Yes, but I love the fact that the
Winter Olympics have fewer sports and more sports that have ice,
and thus more potential for bad things to happen.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Can I ask you it's all about the crashes?
Speaker 6 (39:34):
Can I ask you a question, and you've probably talked
about this, why basketball should be a Winter Olympics sport?
Speaker 5 (39:41):
Yeah, but the season's going during the winter, so what
so it goes back a break? Well, I mean you can.
I guess the hockey does. Hockey takes a break, takes
a break. Yeah, sure, but I around the world when
our professional league's playing Like around the world here, basketball
is a winter sport is and I legitimately don't know
(40:02):
is basketball in winter or summer sport elsewhere?
Speaker 1 (40:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
I just feel like I would, but it would liven
up the Winter Games.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
What this is about me enjoying my Winter Games experience.
Speaker 5 (40:13):
I wonder how many NBA players, and given the fact
that the NBA is so global, I wonder how many
NBA players would not play if it was winter that
do play when it's summer.
Speaker 6 (40:22):
Let me tell you who's not trying hard in January
and February NBA players. Okay, so maybe give them a
little bit of some juice to go actually play hard.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Uh at that time of year, take take a longer break.
Speaker 6 (40:36):
They just shorten the season when in years of the Olympics,
NBA season doesn't start until after the Olympics. Fine, winter Olympics,
all right.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
I'm in I'm down.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
I'm not watching I mean in November, November in the NBA, Yeah,
I mean, well, the Olympics are not in November c No, No,
I'm saying I start even if you're starting later, like
those games that are played before that.
Speaker 5 (40:58):
My favorite or regular season was twelve thirteen started on
Christmases and they played sixty six games.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Yes, and it was great. Yes, terrific. That's the one.
All right, Paul, Thanks so much. Paul Danner jump pro.
Speaker 5 (41:09):

Speaker 3 (44:31):
I had heard you mentioned on the.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
Radio when it came up on the app, so I
opened it up, and initially I thought I was going
to vote for Dave Lapham because I know you've kind
of been pounding the table for him for a while
deservingly so. But when I opened it up, I think
(44:53):
this isn't the most sexy player. You're not going to
see the Athletic write an article of five for him
to get in, and it's not going to be headlines.
But one player I'm worried about not getting in because
kickers can be forgetful. But I think sometimes people forget
how great, especially my younger generation.
Speaker 7 (45:13):
But player Jim.
Speaker 2 (45:13):
Breech was, oh yeah, and the older votes, you know,
I just don't think that. You know, the older fans
are using the app as much and stuff, and if
you keep forgetting about him, I'm afraid he.
Speaker 7 (45:26):
Might get swept under the rug.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
And depending on when they start adding new players. I
just don't know if people realize how much he meant
to this franchise.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
I think you're you're dead right about that. And I
think how much he still means to the franchise and
for what it's worth, which I think should mean a
lot still lives here, very involved in the community, and
a terrific guy. I would make this. I would take
this out of the hands of the voters quite frankly, Drew.
I would look at these nine men and and for
those who don't know, still left on the ballot are
(45:55):
Jim Breids, James Brooks, Chris collins Worth, David Folcher, Max Montoya,
Dave Lapham, Lamar Per, Bob Trumpy, and Reggie Williams. There
are clear Ring of Honor cases for all nine of
those men, and so the way they have done this
makes it feel like we're just gonna keep them on
the ballot until they get in, and we're not gonna
add anybody else.
Speaker 1 (46:15):
I would do this.
Speaker 5 (46:16):
I would just put all nine of those guys in,
and if you decided, you know, this year is gonna
be Ring of Honor year, and we're gonna put one
guy in per game in the regular season, go ahead
and do it, and then you know, kind of reset
at the end of this year, kind of reset at
the end of this year and go, Okay, we're not
gonna do a Ring of Honor induction until twenty twenty seven,
and we're gonna put Sam Wis and Forrest greg and
(46:39):
Marvin Lewis and AJ Green and Andrew Whitworth on the
ballad or whatever it is. I just feel like they're
kind of making it known that they feel like all
nine of these men are Ring of Honor worthy. Why
not just go ahead and put them in. Because what
I don't want in any of these guys cases Reggie
Williams has had a lot of health issues, Bob Trumpy
just turned eighty years old. We're not talking about anybody
(47:02):
who's younger than me here. So what I don't want
is another Ring of Honor induction where the person who's
being honored isn't there.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
I don't want that.
Speaker 5 (47:10):
And so if you're acknowledging that all nine of these
guys are deserving of consideration to the degree that we're
not going to add anybody else to the ballot, just.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
Put them all in. Put them all in. Do one
guy a game? What would be the harm.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
There would be no harm. But we are talking about
the Brown family and how much we don't like to
make change, so I don't see that happening. Would love
that great idea. If they are listening at Paul Brown's damnson,
so we can't call it other thing until they pay you.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
I would love for that to happen.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
It seems like, you know, since I doubt they have
to get anything passed by the NFL. It seems like
it's all in house. They're able to make changes to
that however they so fit.
Speaker 7 (47:56):
But I would love that idea.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Did you say here your other vote was, besides Lapham,
who you would vote for or did you not say
who you were voting for.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
I did not.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
I'm gonna vote for Dave Lapham and I'm gonna vote
for Lamar Parrish. But I could be compelled to vote
for any of these guys.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
You know.
Speaker 5 (48:13):
James Brooks was one of my heroes as a kid.
I love Jim Breach. Max Montoya was a remarkable player.
Reggie Williams former NFL Man of the Year. On top
of how good he was as a player. David Folch
is one of the best safeties we've ever watched. Chris
Collinsworth had a terrific career on top of what he's
done post football, Like those are ring of honor guys.
(48:34):
I just I feel like in this case, like those
are my choices. I think it's an embarrassment that Dave
Lapham wasn't put in last year on the fiftieth anniversary
of him being drafted by the Bengals. There's so many
contributions on and off field. I think they just should
have gone ahead and said we're putting lap him in
on the fiftieth anniversary of him being drafted, and then
(48:55):
we'll vote into others. So to me, it's those two.
It's Lamar Paris and it's Dave Lapham. But again, I
feel like they should almost just take it out of
our hands and say, we have nine home games, we
have nine people that we want to put in. We're
going to do one a game, and then we're going
to start fresh with this process. Maybe not next year,
maybe in a couple of years. And I don't think
(49:17):
anybody would have a major issue with that.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
I agree, and I'd glad to see that happen. But
I had one other thing on the Cup, the topic
you guys were talking.
Speaker 7 (49:27):
About with flag football.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Yeah, because AJ Green came up and I was just
thinking about instead of worried about current players and whether
they get hurt or anything. I just there's some recently
retired players. I think AJ Green would probably do great
in flag football today, even though he's maybe not in
his best shape, just without having to worry about taking contact.
I bet AJ Green would would probably be one of
(49:51):
the best receivers still out there.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
But now maybe. But we're talking about we're talking about
twenty twenty eight, when aj will be forty years old,
so you know, okay, I didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (50:02):
Yeah, so we're talking about the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
I love AJ Green, but you know, if you're gonna
do it, I think you want and noting not that
says nothing, not to say that forty year old men
can't go out there and do things at a really
high level. But if you're going to open it up
to if you're going to introduce flag football to the
Olympics in America, is going to participate, I think you
(50:24):
would want men. And I guess there's women's flag football
as well, though I don't know for sure. I haven't
cared too that much about the topic. I would think
you would want athletes closer to their physical peak. And
AJ who last played in the NFL with twenty twenty
two twenty twenty one, would be six years post retirement.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
We could probably do better.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
I believe you're right, and I believe it at this
I for bingals fans said, don't forget that Jim Breach
is the all time leading scorer. If I believe that's
still correct.
Speaker 1 (50:59):
I believe that is the case.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Yes, so when you're casting your ballots, I know the
younger generation might not remember him, but he was great anyway,
most thanks for your time.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
It was absolutely terrific. Kicked in two Super Bowls.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
Was maybe going to be Super Bowl MVP in Super
Bowl twenty three because aside from Stanford Jennings, he accounted
for all of the offense. Yeah, I mean Jim Breach.
Evan McPherson's a terrific kicker. Evan McPherson is one hundred
and ninety eight field goal attempts behind Jim Breach. He
(51:33):
is one hundred and thirty nine field goal makes behind
Jim Breach. A lot of damn field goals, A lot
of damn field goals and all, look, it's their ring
of honor. The Cincinnati Bengals started their own Ring of honor.
They can change the rules at any point. They can decide,
(51:57):
you know what, we're not having people vote anymore, decide
where we're gonna have everybody vote, not just season ticket
holders and swee holders. They can decide we're not gonna
do a Ring of honor this year, We're gonna do one.
They can do whatever they want. I just this is up.
We all acknowledge this right. This is something they should
have done decades ago. Decades ago, we talked about this
(52:19):
when Corey Dillon was and he obviously got in last year.
Corey Dillon was upset when he wasn't voted in I
think in twenty twenty three. And my take was because
the Bengals, by waiting to do this, have put Corey
in a position where he's got a weight, and he's
got a weight behind players that you could argue are
more deserving. Corey Dillon last played for the Cincinnati Bengals
(52:41):
in two thousand and three, last played in the NFL,
I think in two thousand and six or seven. So
there's a lot of time that they could have said,
we're gonna put Corey Dillon in.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
The Ring of Honor.
Speaker 5 (52:50):
The problem is they made him wait, and they made
everybody wait, so there was gonna be a backlog, and
there's still a backlog, and Jim Breach is a part
of that backlog, and Max Montoya is a part of
that backlog. If you look at all of these guys,
you look at players who are deserving of being.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
In the Ring of Honor.
Speaker 5 (53:05):
So what is the harm in just putting them all
in and saying, all right, these are guys. I mean,
the player on this ballot as I look at it
right now who played most recently I believe for the
Bengals I believe is David Fulcher and he last played
for the Bengals over three decades ago. So we're talking
(53:26):
about nine individuals who probably would have been in the
Ring of Honor a long time ago had the Bengals
had a Ring of Honor. So to me, it's quite
simple you right that wrong by just putting them all in,
and then you recalibrate and go, okay, moving forward, we're
going to put in one player a year, or we're
going to put in one player in every two years,
(53:47):
or we're going to put two players in every two year,
like whatever you decide to do, because you know there
will eventually be men who are deserving of at least
serious consideration Geno Atkins, Carlos dun Lamp, Andrew Whitworth, AJ
Green down the Road, Andy Dalton, on top of like
(54:07):
a whole slew of guys who are playing for the
Bengals right now. And I'm probably forgetting some names from
like the mid two thousands. I would just there would
be no harm in doing this. Like, let's be honest,
the Ring of Honor is not selling tickets. Bengals have
a season ticket wait list right now. It's not because
(54:29):
of the Ring of Honor. So you don't have the
Ring of Honor now to sell tickets. And let's be honest, man,
would anybody really buy a ticket specifically to go watch
a very brief halftime ceremony for the Bengals Ring of Honor? No,
So you have nine home games this year, nine regular
season home games this year, just go alphabetical order. We're
(54:50):
putting Jim Breech in on the home opener September fourteenth,
and then James Brooks and then Collinsworth and then Foulsher,
then Montoya, then Lapham, then Paris, then Trumpy, then Redge Williams.
Speaker 1 (55:01):
Great done, and then take a year off. Hey, we're
gonna take it.
Speaker 5 (55:06):
We have put in because at that point that this
is the year five, so they would have put in
for the first year and then I think two every
year since we would have put nineteen people on our
Ring of honor.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
All right, we're gonna take a year off.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
We're gonna take two years off, and we're gonna come
back in a couple of years and or you know,
maybe next year they put in Sam Wish and Forest Gregg.
Or maybe next year they put in Sam Weish and
Forest Gregg. In the year after that they put in
Marvin Lewis. Like I don't know, they can do whatever
they want. And by the way, like you could shake
your head and go, well, that person shouldn't be in
the Ring of Honor, Okay, fine, right would it dilute
(55:43):
the Ring of honor itself if they put in one
of those names I just threw out there no standards
for a ring of honor, can be whatever the team decides.
Speaker 9 (55:54):
It.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
Just you do a ring of honor. I think to
do two things.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
One creates some interesting conversation about your past too, to
honor the actual player. We've beaten this to death over
the last week. As it relates to Pete Rose, an
induction ceremony without the inductee, I think is stupid.
Speaker 1 (56:13):
I don't think it's a celebration.
Speaker 5 (56:15):
I watched Ken Riley go into the Pro Football Hall
of Fame a couple of years ago, and while I
certainly believe he was deserving, I watched that and I
just felt sadness the entire time, pure sadness the entire time,
because he wasn't there. His son gave a great speech, No,
his family was really elated. Ken Riley should have been
(56:36):
there for that, should have been there for that ring
of honor. You don't get a chance to make a speech.
You go down on the field. Dan Horden narrates a
video about you, and they put a jacket on you,
and you wave to the crowd and then they unveil
your name. Awesome. It's not the most involved thing. So
I am a staunch believer. As it relates to these guys,
(56:59):
I couldn't tell you how you know healthy some of
these men are. I don't know, but I think it'd
be just a shame if one of these guys I
just mentioned ends up going in in a couple of
years and doesn't get there to experience it because they
had to wait even longer.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Just just go nine for nine this season, all nine
guys are getting in.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
There's absolutely is someone going to boycott Bengals games if
they do that is somebody gonna give back their tickets
to the game, because, oh my god, I don't think
I don't know Chris collins Worth should be in the
Bengals Ring of Honor. I'm not gonna go to games
anymore because when I look up at all those names,
I see Max Montoya and he doesn't belong up there.
Of course, not put them all in. It's their ring
(57:42):
of honor. It's not Canton, it's not Cooperstown. By the way,
Halls of Fame can change their rules too, which we've
talked about a bunch and I probably feel more strongly
about this than others. I do think it was a
flat embarrassment to everybody who voted last year that Dave
Lapham didn't get in. And I think it was an
embarrassment to the Bengals that they didn't just say, look,
we're putting Dave Lapham in.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Voting results be damned an embarrassment.
Speaker 5 (58:06):
Fifty years broadcaster ambassador employee played in a Super Bowl embarrassment. Legitimately,
I think anybody who voted last year who didn't vote
for lap should be ashamed, and the Bengals should have
just said, screw it, we're putting Dave laphaman whatever we're
putting him in, do it with these nine guys now
(58:27):
twenty one after four, the Reds keep not making mistakes,
and guess what they keep winning next.
Speaker 1 (58:36):
You know, it's not that hard to figure out why
the Reds are winning games five straight.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
They're in Pittsburgh tonight. By the way, have we seen
why Will Benson is in playing? Just a night off?
Speaker 1 (58:47):
For Will? It's too tired from carrying the team the
last week or so.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
They're getting really good starting pitching, which has frankly been
the case most of the season, and we think it's
going to continue because the Rents have some really good
starting pitchers. Nicolodola was really good last night. That is
a bad Pittsburgh offense, but still he has remained really
good all year long at keeping the ball in the
ballpark and not walking people. He didn't walk anybody last night.
(59:15):
His strikeouts are down, but his strikeouts to walk ratio
is up, which means he's throwing strikes even if he's
giving up a little bit more contact. They've gotten really
good bullpen work. They've gotten really good bullpen work from
the back end of the bullpen. But more than anything,
these five games, for me, it's something I've harped on,
maybe more than others. Five straight games without a bunch
(59:38):
of baffling base running mistakes and without you know, a
bunch of defensive gaffes. They've made one error in the
field in their last five games. But sometimes you could
track how good or bad a team is defensively by
looking at things that don't necessarily get reflected in the
error column. You've watched or paid attention to these last
(59:59):
five games. The Reds play good, clean, crisp baseball. This
is not the first time we have talked about this,
and so you can't help but notice it because again
last year's team. When I think of the twenty twenty
four Reds, I think of a team that got its
manager fired because they kept repeating the same mistakes. When
I think of the first forty or so games of
this season. I think of how often we've wondered, when's
(01:00:22):
the twenty twenty four season going to end? And when's
the twenty twenty five season going to begin? When are
the mistakes going to get cleaned up?
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Well, the last five games they have this is Look,
it's obvious, right, you got to play good, fundamentally sound baseball,
et cetera.
Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
Like it's cliche.
Speaker 5 (01:00:41):
Sometimes you'll have a team, and you could say this
about a lot of different teams and a lot of
different sports, that is good at overcoming its ability, good
at overcoming its inability to do the little things consistently
because they can just mash, or they could just rake
or get they could just score at will and get
to them in basketball, or they just have better dudes
(01:01:02):
in football. Right, Like you know, there are teams that
are constructed to overcome themselves because they got a lot
of guys who can hit the ball out of the
ball park. They've got a lineup of guys who could
just rake. Their offensive limitations are almost non existent. That's
not this team. This team has offensive flaws. This team
(01:01:26):
has a lineup that has holes in it. This team
doesn't have anybody who you look at and go, they're
having an all star caliber year. And now they have
some guys who have hit very well Hoose, Travignel, Austin Hayes.
But top to bottom, it's not a great offensive team.
And so if the Rats had a whole lot of
(01:01:47):
guys that were just tracking to hit twenty five or
more homers, chances are we wouldn't be talking about the
little things not being done earlier in the season, because
they would still be winning in spite of doing some
of those little things. This team's not good enough to
do that. They've got to win in the margins. They've
got to win with pitching. They've got to win with defense.
(01:02:08):
They've got to win by being conservative with their outs.
Like Iran and Rave sometimes about how I don't like
bunting because mathematically it's been proven it's just not very
good strategy. It can be esthetically pleasing, but you know,
there are a lot of people way way smarter than
me who have kind of pointed out that it really
doesn't over the course of a season. If you're a
(01:02:30):
big bunting team, increase the likelihood of you scoring a run.
But I'm even more opposed to it here, because I
think when you're a team like the Reds, you have
to be even more conservative with your outs. You can't
be as giving with your outs. So what the Reds
have done over the last five games is they've made
good use of their outs. They haven't given away many
(01:02:51):
on the base. I don't think they've committed I don't
think they've given away an out on the bases these
last five games. And if they have it, I'm forgetting one.
Then you know my bad.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
But still.
Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
They've thrown to the right base, they've hit the cutoff man,
They've not made a lot of errors. They've made the
plays that need to be made. Will Benson, for all
that we have talked about his batwork, has been awesome
with the glove. They've looked like a good baseball team
when they're not a great offensive baseball team. So these
(01:03:23):
last five games cannot prove to be an outlier. Look,
they're gonna have nights where, yeah, they score a lot
of runs, because it's baseball. You play one hundred and
sixty two games, you're gonna have knights where you score
a bunch of runs. Last night they played great ad
on baseball which was a lot of fun, and they
took advantage of a Pirates team that just has a
bunch of really bad relief pitchers once you get to
the middle innings. But you know, this, to me, this
(01:03:46):
is why this was worth making a big deal about.
When you know the game last was it two Tuesday
where Spencer Steer kind of gets caught in no man
land between third base and home on a on a
different type of offensive team, they could overcome that because
the next guy up can hit one into the moon deck.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Red's don't have a lot of guys who could do that.
Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
So you know, I harp on it because for this
team this year, it matters so much more. You know,
last year's team wasn't great, But I wonder, I wonder
how last season could have unfolded had they been better defensively,
had they been better on the basis are they a
playoff team?
Speaker 10 (01:04:26):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:04:27):
Are they a little bit more interesting in relation to
the playoff chase? I tend to think the answer is yes.
It's a pretty good chance too. By the way, that
David Bell is still the manager. So the last five
games have been great, legitimately great. They've played well, and
you know, look they have good starting pitching, they have
good bullpen, good relief pitching. I think Terry Francona, for
(01:04:49):
the most part has managed the bullpen pretty well. There
have been exceptions, but as a general rule has managed
the bullpen very well. They've got to win in the margins.
Man the last five games they've they've won in them more.
They have not shrunk their marchin for air, they've widened it.
And so you can win when you're only scoring free runs.
(01:05:09):
You can win with an offense that isn't great. You
can win with your second basement still hitting below two hundred.
You can win with Ellie de la Cruz having not
a bad year, but not a great year either, kind
of a nondescript for the most part offensive season. Statistically.
You know, I hate to make this about Ellie, but
(01:05:31):
statistically from last year, Ellie's OPS is down, his OPS
plus is down, is on base percentages down, his batting
average on balls and plays down, his hard hit percentages down,
his line drive percentages down.
Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
You can still win.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
Games with him not quite making that leap that we
keep waiting for. If you win in the margins, and
the Reds have done that, and if it can continue.
There's no reason to think that with the starting pitching
and with the relief pitching, they they can at least
hang in the race. I think these next two games,
you know, think of how awesome it would be you
(01:06:08):
sweep the Pirates, which you should. They're terrible. You don't
get Paul Skeins. They have a bad offensive team. Reds
don't have a great offensive team. The Pirates have a
legitimately terrible offensive team. Just imagine you get these next
two and now the Reds go into a stretch where
they're gonna play the Chicago Cubs six times within nine days,
(01:06:33):
starting with three here beginning on Friday night.
Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
Like, just that would be that'd be fun.
Speaker 5 (01:06:42):

lost in eighty eight. So take it. I take it

going to cheapen the Ring of Honor. And the reason
I say that, first of all, if you look at
a team like the Dallas Cowboys and their Ring of Honor,
it's all Hall of famers. And I get it, we
don't have a lot of Hall of famers. But what
I don't want, and what I don't I think may happen,
is you're gonna get people come into our stadium look
(01:10:42):
around at the names like Perish and lap Them and Edwards,
and they're going to be like, who are these people?
Because they didn't they didn't make an impact for the Bengals.
They didn't make a big enough impact to really move
(01:11:03):
the needle as far as the National Football League gets concerned.
And I just think that we need to wait.
Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
Yeah, but that's why. That's why they're not in the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. By the way, Don Meredith
and Don Perkins are both in the Cowboys Ring of
Honor and not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
Well, and I would argue that Laugham goes in, but
not for his playing. I mean, he was a decent guard.
He was a pretty good guard. But he's an amazing
sports announcer, so you know, I think he deserves it
for that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
But here's my thing.
Speaker 5 (01:11:36):
So if somebody, if I'm in a Bengals game and somebody,
I mean, first of all, how much should I care
what a fan of another team thinks?
Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Do I care that?
Speaker 5 (01:11:46):
If a visiting fan of the Tennessee Titans doesn't know
who James Brooks is, Like, that's the ring of Honor,
isn't for a fan of the New Orleans Saints for
a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals. So that's number one.
Number two. If I'm sitting there and somebody's there you know,
from out of town rooting for the other team, and
they look up and go, who's Jim Breach? Well, can
(01:12:08):
I tell you who Jim Breach is. Here's why he's significant.
He's significant in Bengals history for this reason. He's among
some of the great all time Bengals for this reason.
And so his name is up there in the Bengals
stadium for that reason. If the person looks at me
and shakes their and shakes their head and says, I
don't understand, well, that's a you problem. Chances are the
person we'll go, okay, fine, I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
I would tell that person that Jim Breach never kicked
a field goal over fifty yards.
Speaker 5 (01:12:36):
How many kickers in that era kick field goals over
fifty yards?
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
Well, exactly, it really wasn't a big thing to do.
Speaker 5 (01:12:44):
I mean, because he kicked in an era where field
goal attempts beyond fifty were not the norm.
Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
We're gonna punish him for that.
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Well, but you still had guys who were kicking well
beyond fifty yards in those days. I he's a kicker, okay.
I mean what I feel is that by the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
By the way, he made six field goals beyond beyond
fifty yards.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
That's the prices the Heckademy.
Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
But anyways, I just because you can't, you can't put
a kicker in your ring of honor.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
I wouldn't put Jim Breach in my ring of.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
Honor, Adam in the New England Patriots Ring of Honor.
Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
Well, yeah, of course he won super Bowls, Jim Breach.
Jim Breach kicked in two Super Bowls. Did he win
those two Super Bowls? No, he didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
It's probably the reason why a chance to win one
of them.
Speaker 3 (01:13:36):
And the Bengals are like a Nationally, the Bengals are
known as kind of a loser franchise. And if we
cheapened things up by putting this ring of honor with
all of these guys just to make up for for
old times, I don't think that we're doing justice.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
Doing doing doing doing doing who and what justice? So
we should wait till the Bengals win a Super Bowl
and then only put the players who won a Super
Bowl in the Ring of honor. You gonna know, I think, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
I think gino Akins blombs. I think I think Andy
Dalton belongs. But those are guys that really be.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
Honest with you, I'd put Jim Breach in before I
put Andy Dalton.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
He got the five playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
Uh huh yeah, yeah no.
Speaker 5 (01:14:23):
But but your going so as that Jim Breach doesn't
get in because he's a kicker, but Andy does because
he's a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
No, I think Andy made a bigger impact. Andy gets
the ball every time.
Speaker 5 (01:14:34):
All right, let me let me tell you something. And
by the way, I would put Andy Dalton in as well.
But if you're worried about being a laughing stock from
somebody who comes in from out of town, Andy Dalton's
name is gonna get snickers. None of these other nine
dudes on the ballot, now, won't.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
That's a very good point.
Speaker 5 (01:14:52):
But I have no problem putting Andy a number one.
It's the the standard is Bengals. It's not the Dallas
Cowboys standard. It's not the Pittsburgh steel It's Bengals who
contributed most to the Cincinnati Bengals, who helped the Cincinnati Bengals,
who pushed forward the Cincinnati Bengals. I don't care about
the Patriots or the Titans, or the Dolphins or anybody else.
(01:15:15):
And I really don't care what anybody from outside says.
I'm about giving men who deserve it their moment and
celebrating contributions, significant contributions to the Cincinnati Bengals. That's what
the Ring of Honor does.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
I think you proved my point when you just said
the Pittsburgh Steelers standards in the Dallas Cowboys standard. Right,
Why should be at that level of standard? Why an organization?
Speaker 1 (01:15:41):
But why.
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Because they win every year? Not every year? But you
know what I'm saying, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't won a playoff game since Obama
was president.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
But that's all right.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
But you know what I'm saying, I know the history.
I mean, go to the Pittsburgh Steelers stadium. God knows,
I'd never watch set put into place myself, but I
guarantee you they're ringing honor everybody.
Speaker 9 (01:16:07):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
That's a that's that's that's fine.
Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
The Steelers have a bigger brand, and so I'm likely
to know more of those guys, So I should I
should use the Pittsburgh Steelers as a guide for the
Cincinnati Bengals Ring.
Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
Of Honor, I would say for setting the standard for
the organization. Yes, absolutely so.
Speaker 1 (01:16:30):
I have to wait until the Bengals win six Super
Bowls now before we have a ring of honor? Like,
what's the standard here? Where? Where? Where's where's the goal line?
Where's the goal line? Because you want to put Andy
Dalton in? Right, who didn't win anything? I want to
put Andy Dalton in. But now I but so that's
not applying the Steelers Ring of Honor because Terry Bradshaw
did more in his career than Andy Dalton did, right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
So, so, so what I said is I would put
Andy Dalton in over Jim Breech. That doesn't mean I
would put Andy Dalton in.
Speaker 5 (01:16:57):
So so, now, so should we should we take the
name of Willy Anderson down? Like should we look at
Anthony Muonios and go, yeah, man, that Canton thing's really cool.
But you didn't play for the Steelers, so you can't
be honored by the team he played for.
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
We're gonna do that. You're gonna go to Ken Riley's
family and go, hey, Ken Riley, you didn't play for
the Steelers. We're the Cowboys. So sorry, man, you can't
have your name up in our ring of honor here.
That's that's what we're doing. Okay, So you have to
be in the Hall of Fame to be in the
Ring of Honor. We're taking David taking taking David Concepcion's
(01:17:31):
number down at Great American Ballpark. No, because he's gonna
he's not in the Hall of Fame. Guy's been retired
for thirty five years. He's not in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Well, you're gonna you're.
Speaker 1 (01:17:44):
Gonna take will You're gonna take because some voters have
not put Willie in canon. We're gonna take Willy Anderson's
number down.
Speaker 9 (01:17:51):
No.
Speaker 3 (01:17:51):
I said you were my favorite personality and you're blowing
me up.
Speaker 2 (01:17:54):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:17:54):
I mean I'm trying to I'm trying to figure out
what will me as a bank and I appreciate the
nice word. We're having a fun conversation as a Bengals fan,
which you are. I imagine you are right, What what
would your ring of Honor look like? If I said, Jim,
you're in charge of the Ring of Honor, here's here's
what it's going to look like. Here's who's going to
be in, and here's who's not in. Outlining for me right.
Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
Now, we would have Anthony Munos, Ken Riley, and Ken Anders.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
Ken Anderson's not in the Hall of Fame. Ken Anderson's
not in the whole fan owner.
Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
We're sticking our neck out on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
Okay, what about Boomer?
Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
That's it, But that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
Boomer was an m v P. Boomer went to the
Super Bowl. Boomer get in.
Speaker 3 (01:18:34):
No, no, I wouldn't say.
Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
Okay, so Kenny, but not Boomy in longevity is.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
A little bit of it. No, I mean you have
to you have to factor in a lot of things. Okay,
but but yeah, I mean, and I have a season
ticket holder, I have my vote, and this year I'm
voting for Dave Lapham and Bob Trumpy. All right, well
what mainly Bob Trumpy was a great tide end I
don't remember him a lot.
Speaker 5 (01:18:56):
I'm not that not in the Hall of Fame, but
by a but I do never never never played, never
played in a winning playoff game.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
Sorry, he was a great Well that's great. Cook would
have played longer.
Speaker 1 (01:19:09):
So we put Greg Cook in the Hall in the
Ring of Honor played one year? Like what what What's
I mean?
Speaker 9 (01:19:15):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:19:15):
Like, so, so we're not gonna put boomeras siasin in
the Bengals Ring of Honor. But you want to put
Bob Trump in like your your criteria is because he
was a great broadcaster. Okay, yeah, so for for work
that had nothing, And I again would also put Bob
Trump in. I'm I'm a big ring of honor guy,
(01:19:35):
But it's the Bengals Ring of Honor. It's not the
NBC Ring of Honor. It's not the seven hundred w
l W Ring of Honor. So Bob Trumpy better than
boomeris s iiasin Boomers. Iison also a broadcaster called ten
super Bowls, worked on CBS for twenty five years, has
a morning radio show.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Boomer get in because he's a great broadcaster too.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
Bob Trump, he was a great tight end, but tight
ends were like fullbacks are now.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
He was an awesome time and he's still the franchisees
time er Boo.
Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
Boomer was an MVP when he was Boomer was an
m VP when he was playing with Dan Marino, Joe Montana,
Warren Moon, Jim Kelly, et cetera.
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Played fourteen years in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
He had some great years, had some great years.
Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
Right, so did Bob Trump. He had some great years.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
Again, I don't remember Bob Trumpy playing, but that's who
I voted for because I can't get I can't put
Lamar Parrish, I can't put Eddie Edwards in. I can't
put is Coy Bacon on there yet. I don't know
who I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
I mean you you you looked at the ballot. You
should be able to tell me who's in it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:39):
Yeah, I know, I forget. That's that's again, that's my point.
It's who Max Montoya for real, so so.
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
So Lamar a great player, Lamar Parris played in eight
Pro Bowls, doesn't get your vote.
Speaker 5 (01:20:52):
Yeah, yeah, doesn't get your vote. But but but if
you would have played for the Steelers, he'd get your vote.
Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Nope, star in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (01:21:02):
So the Steelers have some ring of Honor whatever they
call it, people who they've honored who are also not
in the Hall of Fame. I mean, I mentioned you
said the Cowboys all of their Ring of Honor people
in the Hall of Fame, and I told you, factually
that's not correct.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
True. Don Meredith was.
Speaker 6 (01:21:19):
So but he so so.
Speaker 5 (01:21:21):
So Essentially, you're in the Ring of Honor if your
second act after your playing days is one that you're
familiar with.
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
The next group to go should be aj Green. I
think we can agree on that, right.
Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
Well, I don't know what your criteria is, so I
don't I can't say yes to any of them. Yeah,
I would put those guys in, but again, like you
don't want to put a former MVP and boomerasiasin in,
but Andy Dalt would get your vote, Like I don't.
I'm I Jim.
Speaker 5 (01:21:50):
I don't understand what you want the Ring of Honor
to be, Like what your criteria. I mean, they're just
players that you've seen on TV before, that you've met
that I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:21:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:21:58):
Unfortunately I am at a time. I hope I'm still
your favorite broadcaster.
Speaker 3 (01:22:03):
Second favorite now thanks.
Speaker 1 (01:22:07):

because we had.

You'll hear the best of Zach Taylor and Joe Burrow

want to know if Joe Burrow should sign up for
(01:23:31):
the new most thankless job in sports and as promised
last hour but not delivered on sixty seconds on UC
basketball because of our previous caller and if you were
just joining us, I was talking about the Bengals Ring
of Honor. If you're a season ticket holder or suite holder,
you can start voting now. The nine names on the
ballot are nine holdovers from really the first ballot in
(01:23:54):
twenty twenty one. My point was they should just put
all nine guys in. Gentlemen called before and one of
his rubs with the Bengals Ring of Honor was that
it wouldn't hold a candle to the Steelers Ring of
Honor because the Steelers have a different standard.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
And so I knew nothing about the Steelers. They call
it the Hall of Honor.
Speaker 5 (01:24:13):
I knew nothing about it because I don't care, because
I don't care about the Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm not a fan,
I don't talk about the team. I don't live in Pittsburgh.
I don't care. So I knew nothing about the Steelers
Ring of Honor. But the insinuation was, well, basically, the
Steelers only induct players who won Super Bowls or who
are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Well, actually,
(01:24:38):
Pittsburgh Steelers have fifty seven men in their Hall of Honor,
and the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise obviously goes back a long
long way, a long long time. The Pittsburgh Steelers as
a franchise became the Pittsburgh Steelers twenty eight years before
the Bengals were founded. So they have fifty seven men
(01:25:04):
in their Hall of Honor. It will not surprise you,
I guess, to find out that not all fifty seven
men are Pro Football Hall of Famers. Certainly as you
might expect. Within the Hall of honor are a lot
of Hall of famers because the Pittsburgh Steelers have had
a lot of great Hall of Fame caliber players play
(01:25:25):
for them and coaches. So it's why in their Hall
of Honor you will find Jerome Bettison, Mel Blunt and
Bill Cower and University of Dayton grad Chuck Noll and
Troy Palomalo. And you'll find both Art Rooney Senior and
Dan Rooney Sr. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
(01:25:47):
And you'll see Terry Bradshaw. You will also see Willie
Parker and Heith Miller and Lewis Lips and Carnell Lake.
Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Fine football players, good football players, players who as a
Bengals fan, I watched Torment the team that I root
for the standard for the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor.
Isn't you gotta get to Canton. It's not even you
gotta win a Super Bowl. So I love Ring of
(01:26:31):
honor discussions. Point of a team ring of honor is
to bestow upon players who played for that team, or
coaches who coach, or contributors to that team a certain
honor that is hard to attain. Isn't necessarily Canton or Cooper'stown.
The Reds have a Hall of Fame, the Reds have
(01:26:52):
jersey numbers retired. Many of those players in the Hall
of Fame aren't even coming close to Cooper's town. God
love Ron Oster.
Speaker 5 (01:27:03):
Ron Oster didn't exactly merit very serious Cooperstown consideration. He
absolutely belongs in the Reds Hall of Fame. Same thing
applies here. It's for people who contributed to that franchise
to be honored by that franchise. We can discuss the
merits of some members of the Bengals versus others. I'm
(01:27:24):
a big ring of honor guy, because what's the harm
throw the name out there that you would legitimately consider
a Bengals Ring of Honor inductee. I'm not talking about
you know, some rando who played four seasons and did nothing.
But do you think the great Anthony Munios would look
up and see Andy Dalton's name, or Jim Breach's name,
(01:27:45):
or Max Montoya's name and go, God tell you what,
take my name down. I don't belong with those chumps.
The Ring of Honor doesn't exist to be held up
to the standard of another franchise. Look, the Steelers have
a longer standing history, a more illustrious history, more accomplished history.
I think we're all willing to acknowledge. That doesn't mean
(01:28:06):
that a team like the Bengals can't celebrate and give
moments to some of their all time best. Dallas Cowboys
have members of their Ring of Honor who are not
in canon. By the way, multiple teams have kickers in
their Rings of Honor. I don't think we have to
take it that seriously, and I think the discussions are fun.
(01:28:30):
I don't think we have to take it that seriously.
And no one's diluting the Ring of Honor by putting
in any of the nine guys whose names are up
there now. And if you're that upset about it, then
don't go the night they get inducted, right, but boycott it,
protest outside the stadium. But if you're gonna try to
tell me, well, the Steelers wouldn't put in a player
who's not in Canton, that's actually not true. There's actually
(01:28:53):
fifty seven Hall of Honor honorees twenty nine not in
Canton twenty nine. Most aren't gonna come close. Some merit
very serious consideration. Some may eventually get in. So and
if you're at a Bengals game and you're sitting next
(01:29:13):
to a fan of another team and they say to you,
can't believe you put in fill in the blank, can't
believe you put in James Brooks, Do you really care
about their opinion? I mean, I've never I've gone to
see a lot of games and a lot of venues,
and some will have jersey numbers retired. Because I'm a
sports nerd, I usually recognize the figures or the names.
(01:29:38):
But I've never sat in another team's stadium or arena
and said, man, I can't believe they retired that clown's
jersey number. Get me out of here. Or I can't
believe that guy's in their Ring of Honor. Boy, you
people sitting around me should feel embarrassed like that legitimately
has never happened. Legitimately has never happened. If you ever
(01:30:04):
go see the Reds plan Milwaukee, they have this really
awesome outside the ballpark. I think it's Wall of honor
they call it. And you're not gonna like, I can't
do you guys put Gorman Thomas in your Hall of honor?
I can't believe you did that. You put Dan police
Hack up there. Oh boy, nobody ever does that. Stop
worrying about what fans of other teams think. And by
(01:30:26):
the way, what most fans that come to Paul Brown Stadium,
you know what they do. They don't pay one lick
of attention to the Ring of honor. They care about
does their team win? Is there a good pregame scene,
a good postgame scene? Is the beer expensive? Are they
gonna be fights in the stands? Am I gonna be
treated rudely? Like that Pacers fan in New York who
had a back of garbage thrown at him. They're not
sitting there, They're not going back home to tell everybody,
(01:30:47):
nonw I went to Cincinnati. You're not gonna believe who
they put in their Ring of honor? But I appreciate
the caller for a the nice words be the spirited
and friendly discussion and see the the segment afterward. I

NFL has approved its players participating in the twenty twenty

eight Olympics. The Olympics in twenty twenty eight, if I
didn't mention, this will be in Los Angeles. NFLPA says
they support the measure. Many players have expressed interest in playing,
including our guy Joe Burrow. Every country I'm reading here
from Pro Football Talk, every country that fields a flag
football team in the Olympics is expected to have a

tryout process. Active NFL players will participate in that Problem says,
with most trying out for Team USA, but some players
with ties to other countries expressing interest as well. Olympic
flag football will have six men's teams and six women's teams.
Ten players per team, five on five format, so teams
will likely include a quarterback, four offensive skilled position players,
(01:34:18):
and five defensive players. Every country with a flag football
team will have a maximum of one maximum of one
player per NFL roster. No NFL teammates will be Olympic teammates.
So if you're thinking, god, I could one day watch
Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase play with each other in
the Olympics, that's only if one of those guys is
(01:34:41):
no longer teammates with the other. I think this is
an absolutely thankless job. I think the two most thankless
jobs in sports for years have been Super Bowl halftime
show performer, because you could be as accomplished a musician
as exists, have sold billions of records, have made billions
(01:35:04):
of dollars. You perform at halftime at the Super Bowl show,
and people are on Twitter are going to say you suck.
You don't get paid for it, you get criticized to
a degree that you don't deserve, and there's almost no
way to replicate what a two hour concert is going
to be like in twelve minutes. The other most thankless
job in sports is player on the US Olympic men's
(01:35:27):
basketball team, because if.
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
You win the gold medal, nobody talks about it.
Speaker 5 (01:35:33):
If you lose one game, people act like it's an
international crisis. In twenty twenty one, the US men lost
a game in pool play, more people talked about that
than when they won the gold medal. The two thousand
and four team got beaten won the bronze medal in
the Olympics. People lost their minds. Those people who lost
their minds failed to even watch the twenty eighteen the
(01:35:56):
Redeemed team that won the gold. The third most thankless
job and sports will be player on the US Olympic
men's flag football team. If you're an NFL player participating,
you're supposed to win the gold. If you do, no
one's going to even shrug their shoulders. If you lose,
you're going to be destroyed hard.
Speaker 1 (01:36:16):
Pass on that one. That's not my pole question.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
My pole question is how would you feel about Joe
Burrow playing in the Olympics. It's actually, would you be
okay with Joe Burrow quarterbacking the US flag football team
in the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
Speaker 1 (01:36:31):
The choices are sure or would rather?
Speaker 5 (01:36:37):
He not?
Speaker 1 (01:36:38):
Vote now at.
Speaker 5 (01:36:40):
Mulleger thanks to United Heartland Insurance. Thankless job, thankless job.
Let's see here, Mike, go ahead. You're on ESPN fifteen thirty.
What's up?
Speaker 7 (01:36:56):
That's hilarious flag football? What's next to the US team
led by coach Guy Fieri.
Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
I'd be on board with that, Well.
Speaker 7 (01:37:05):
It would be a winter sports summer sport, I say
both Olympics.
Speaker 5 (01:37:08):
Well, in the summer you could In the summer you
could do grilling, and in the winter you could do
something in a more traditional kitchen setting.
Speaker 7 (01:37:15):
Right, I mean you could answer your your scrambled eggs
with the cottage cheese or whatever. You turned me on to.
Sour cream.
Speaker 1 (01:37:24):
Sour cream.
Speaker 7 (01:37:26):
Awesome, awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:37:27):
I make three things better than anybody else. I make
the world's greatest scrambled eggs, I make the world's greatest
meat sauce, and I grill the world's best try tip steak.
Speaker 7 (01:37:37):
Oh boy, that sounds so good.
Speaker 5 (01:37:39):
I would enter them in any competition. If there's every
scrambled eggs competition, I'm entering it.
Speaker 7 (01:37:45):
Hey, mo, give them your recipe. Real, folks, now listen
to this is very good, and do this because you
can do it easily yourself. Hit them with that recipe
for the scrambled eggs.
Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
Come on, didn't you quite simple eggs?
Speaker 5 (01:37:57):
Sour cream, just like a spoonful of sour garlic, powder, salt, pepper,
dash of hot sauce.
Speaker 7 (01:38:06):
Folks, you won't regret it. I thought in this well,
I couldn't sound that special.
Speaker 9 (01:38:10):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:38:10):
It is the sour cream fluffs, the eggs. My dad
told me this, the sour cream fluffs the eggs.
Speaker 7 (01:38:17):
Boy it sho does I'm telling you folks, it's like
eating a pillow. It's so light and good. Oh man,
do it, just do it?
Speaker 9 (01:38:24):
Do it?
Speaker 7 (01:38:25):
Do it for yourself? Okay, basketball please? So I'm gonna
have to root against then excel on this one. Indiana's
never won one. You guys have won one recently, but
you have I love that style that team plays, the
pivot man, mister Turner has kind of come into his own.
(01:38:47):
Let's see if you can keep playing that well. So
potentially a great series. The other side, I really don't
know which way to it. I kind of want okay,
see because it's a small town about the size of
the Dayton oh maybe, and they've never won anything. They
don't have any other pro teams Minnesota is that baseball, football,
and basketball more than we have in Cincinnati. So, uh,
(01:39:12):
do you have what I know you want? The next
and the other series? Do you do you root for
one team or the other in that one?
Speaker 5 (01:39:18):
I have a rule against rooting for franchises that have moved,
so I'm not rooting for Oklahoma City.
Speaker 7 (01:39:25):
That sums it up, folks right there.
Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
I think Okasey will win. I think they will win
reasonably handily. I love watching their team.
Speaker 5 (01:39:33):
Also, if they win in the next advance, Oklahoma City
would get home court.
Speaker 1 (01:39:38):
But I have a general rule.
Speaker 5 (01:39:40):
I've only violated this for the Golden State Warriors because
Steph Curry trumpsall. I will not root for franchises that
have moved, and okase moved from Seattle.
Speaker 1 (01:39:49):
By the way, you're wrong about the Pacers.
Speaker 5 (01:39:50):
They won the ABA championship in nineteen seventy, seventy two
and seventy three, so the Knicks and Pacers have both
recently won championships as recently as nineteen seventy three.
Speaker 7 (01:40:00):
Okay, guy, I mean the way you always catch him.
But that was the team George McGinnis was on great ballplayer,
George McGinnis tremendous ballplayer. And it was Larry was Larry
Brown their coach then. No, Larry Brown was a hell
of a coach though, was on the college level, at
the a BA level, at the NBA level. But don't
(01:40:21):
you miss U B.
Speaker 8 (01:40:22):
Brown?
Speaker 7 (01:40:22):
I miss you Be Brown so much. Are you learned
so much about Basketball's going to be ub Brown do? Yeah?
I never hear him any more, just like chick her
and I learned so much about basketball, and chick Hert
coined that phrase slam dunk and a whole bunch of
other ones. So is this I asked you that yesterday,
So I'm not going to ask you that about the
red schedule. Just give me a break. What is the
(01:40:46):
other thing that the end that the NFL is planning
on addressing tomorrow? Another toush push. But the other one
is about the playoffs. Do you know what that?
Speaker 5 (01:40:54):
I think they're going to talk about reseting in the playoffs,
right m me, which they already do. I caught that
during the top of the hour, Mike, you kind of
caught me off guard. I think maybe what they're talking
about is seeding based on record and perhaps not giving
let's say, an eight to eight or a nine to
eight division winner the four seed just because they want
(01:41:17):
a division. I think there's a movement in the NFL
because they reseed in the playoffs already. In the NFL,
I think there is a movement to seed based on
record and not necessarily whether or not you won your division.
Speaker 7 (01:41:30):
Uli I kind of like it. I like the merit
side of that. What do you think.
Speaker 5 (01:41:36):
I'm all for rewarding the best teams. I have no
issue with saying, look, you won your division. You can
win your division at seven and ten. The reward for
winning the division is you're in the playoffs. But I
have no problems saying to a team that doesn't have
a winning record or doesn't have as good of a
record as a wildcard team that has more wins, you
have to go on the road. I'm looking at this here.
(01:41:58):
There's a reseeding proposal. Teams would be re seeded based
strictly on record for the divisional round, regardless of whether
or not a team won its division or made the
playoffs as a wildcard. That's what they're looking at. I
will admit to having not Yeah, look I I would
just go one through seven based on record and use
had to head tie breakers, and if a division winner
(01:42:18):
ends up being the sixth seed or the seventh seed,
then you should have won more games.
Speaker 7 (01:42:22):
Yeah, And that's what you always say, even know about
your your hometown teams. You just say you should have
won more games. You said about the Bearcats or Reds whoever.
And you're right, because you can only mind yourself. Even
though there's a million excuses that we've all come up with.
Speaker 9 (01:42:36):
Is is.
Speaker 7 (01:42:40):
Is Amelia? What's our closures name?
Speaker 1 (01:42:42):
Ameliogan?
Speaker 7 (01:42:44):
Is he our official closure now? Or is this new
kid gonna take his job?
Speaker 5 (01:42:48):
Well, Luis May has been awesome, and I don't think
it's it's gonna surprise anybody to see him pitching in
the ninth inning on a consistent basis at some point.
But I think Amelio Pagan has done a good enough
job to to be the main ninth inning guy. I
kind of like the idea of, you know, kind of
going game by game and if Luis May is available
(01:43:10):
and Amelia Pagan is not, let's go with Luis May.
I'm also a favor of if you believe Amelia Pagan
can save you a game in the seventh inning, then
use him in the seventh inning and worry about the
ninth inning later. But for those who haven't seen Luise
May pitch, and probably most of my audience have, he's
he's got electric potential. But Emilia Pagan's at a good job,
done a good job, leads all of baseball in appearances
(01:43:33):
and in most of them has been has been quite good.
Speaker 1 (01:43:36):
Mike, I got a run man, Okay, yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:43:38):
He made me cry to day on that Ken Riley
saying I'm still with you on this Hall of Fame.
It just pisses me off. The un belief, Thank you mom.
Speaker 1 (01:43:45):
All right?
Speaker 5 (01:43:45):
Well, I just I hate induction ceremonies where the person
isn't there, especially when there was an unnecessary way.
Speaker 1 (01:43:56):
You know, it was really tragic.
Speaker 5 (01:43:57):
Roy Halliday went into the Hall of and understandably so,
and his wife gave a terrific speech, was tragically killed
in a plane crash. But there was no like lifelong
wait he went in I think on his first year
of eligibility. Ron Santo waited years. Ken Riley waited decades. Uh,
(01:44:22):
And I just I couldn't help but watch either of
those inductions for the lens of how much more joyous
would be would it be if they were there? So
I apply this to Pete Rose, and I applied to
some of these Bengals Ring of Honor people like I.
I think it would really suck if Bob Trumpy or
Lamar Parrish or players from that generation finally got their
(01:44:46):
overdue do and they're not here for it, So put
them all in this year. I think I'm in the
minority when it comes to that. Five point three seven
four nine, fifteen thirty. All right, you'll hear Zach, You'll
hear jo Oh. Let me come back on ESPN fifteen

just getting a night off? Have we learned anything about
the pigeon who got hit during batting practice yesterday in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
Is the pigeon still on life support? I'm not sure.
If I think we need to hold a moment's silence
for the pigeon.
Speaker 5 (01:46:10):
Well, if the pigeon is dead, yes we do. If
the pigeon is not dead, we don't do a moment
of silence. Do we know who the offending batter was?
Has any reds enter come forth to say it was me?
It was off my bat, that that line drives struck

the puck drop in Game one of the NHL East
Final between Florida and Carolina. Both Zach Taylor and Joe
Burrow talked today. These public comments were highly anticipated, I
think because a lot of us hoped or at least
thought that both would sound off and give us some
(01:47:36):
morsel of content as it relates to Trey Hendrickson and
that contract situation. Let's start with the Bengals head coach.
Here is Zach Taylor talking about Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 11 (01:47:52):
Nobate on Trump.
Speaker 1 (01:47:55):
I'll talk to.
Speaker 11 (01:47:55):
Trey know what he had to say about you.
Speaker 7 (01:48:03):
Press a need for him or.
Speaker 11 (01:48:10):
I put a lot of time into thinking.
Speaker 1 (01:48:11):
You know, those situations.
Speaker 11 (01:48:12):
There's real money at stake, so I put a lot
of time and energy into thinking about how to communicate
when you communicate, and so that's just how I handled
that one. And then yeah, Trey and I have spoken.
Speaker 5 (01:48:25):
Uh, Zach Taylor does a really good job of navigating
these things. He did so with Jamar Chase last year.
Zach Taylor is not involved in negotiations. He's not the
person who's He's not at fault for why Trey Hendrickson
hasn't gotten his contract. I would be willing to bet you,
and this bet will never be made because we will
(01:48:47):
never know that. If you cornered Zach Taylor privately and
asked him right now for his thoughts on Trey Hendrickson,
he would tell you, I'm pissed.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
If you were a head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:49:00):
Coach, if you were Zach Taylor and you're having a
text exchange with one of your players and he makes
it public what you thought was private, you would be pissed.
You may be all in on Trey Hendrickson and think
he's the greatest football player of all time, and you
may think Zach Taylor's a bubbling idiot.
Speaker 1 (01:49:22):
You have to admit that.
Speaker 5 (01:49:23):
So he's not gonna say that. But like I watched
his body language during that press conference, Austin tweeted about
how sort of terse he was. It's true, dude's pissed
at Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 1 (01:49:34):
How could you not be?
Speaker 5 (01:49:34):
And by the way, I don't believe for a second
than when he texted him about the you know that
the mandatory mini camp and maybe he could be fined
if he doesn't show up.
Speaker 1 (01:49:43):
Like I think he was being informative. I think he
was being reminding. I do not think he was being threatening.
Speaker 5 (01:49:50):
Here's more from Zach Taylor on this is obviously the
big story of the summer, right gonna be the big
story of the summer. How did the Bengals get off
to a faster start. Here's Zach Taylor on playing more
players who matter during the preseason.
Speaker 11 (01:50:03):
No, not necessarily. I think the one thing I do
feel good about is playing our guys more in the preseason.
That's always subject to change, depending on health and how
things go with our team during training camp. But that's
one thing that we've openly talked about with our players
and I think will help us as we do it.
Speaker 9 (01:50:19):
And so.
Speaker 11 (01:50:21):
They know that we've talked about that and we'll go
from there, not anticipating that.
Speaker 1 (01:50:28):
There you go there's Zac tap Now. Joe Burrow talked today.
Speaker 5 (01:50:32):
Here he is talking about, you know, this is the
basis of our pole question, flag football in the twenty
twenty eight Olympics.
Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
Joe wants to play. Here's them talking about that.
Speaker 12 (01:50:42):
Yeah, I'd love to.
Speaker 1 (01:50:43):
I'd love to.
Speaker 13 (01:50:44):
That's an exciting opportunity. I think I'm not entirely sure
how that would work out with training camp and all
of our obligations here. You know, that's it's not my forte,
but that's something that I would like to do for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
As a resolution. It's only one NFL player in the country,
which you might see.
Speaker 13 (01:51:08):
The other Oh really, I guess. I guess it just
depends on how if they want to, how much they
want to grow the game. I think the more NFL
players that you have on the roster, the more people
are gonna want to tune in and watch. And so
I think, I guess that's a decision that that they
(01:51:30):
have to make. But I'd love to see all of
our guys out there.
Speaker 5 (01:51:33):
Yeah, all right, there's Joe Burt wants to play in
the Olympics twenty twenty eight flag football representing the United States.
Here's Joe on winning an international game and maybe one
day being allowed to play the Ravens at home in
prime time instead of on the road.
Speaker 13 (01:51:48):
You know, playing in Baltimore for the fourth straight prime
time year isn't ideal. Maybe we could get one of
those in Cincinnati next year, please, Maybe an international game
next year two.
Speaker 12 (01:52:02):
You know, I think.
Speaker 9 (01:52:05):
No.
Speaker 12 (01:52:06):
Part of the reason I wanted to.
Speaker 13 (01:52:07):
Do the Quarterback Show, I wanted to help grow the
game internationally, and so to not have a stage like
that is a little disappointing because I feel like I've
consciously worked hard to try to grow the game internationally
over the last eighteen months or so.
Speaker 12 (01:52:26):
So hopefully at some point in my career we can
go over there.
Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
All right, Look, it's not a complaint. It's we're always okay.
It is a complaint, but it's not whining. There's a
difference between complaining and whining.
Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
At least, I think.
Speaker 5 (01:52:44):
It's crummy the Bengals have had a good to Baltimore
in prime time four straight years. It is I think
if you're a diehard Ravens fan, you would acknowledge that,
like there's something inequitable about that. You would expect one
of those games to be in prime time. It's Lamar,
it's Joe, it's Bengals, it's Ravens. They've played in the
(01:53:04):
playoffs recently, like you would expect that game to be
one of them a year in prime time. To have
it in Baltimore, four straight years and three straight on
a short week. For a league that does everything it
can to create equitable scenarios for everybody involved, it has
not here. All right, here's Joe Burrow with his thoughts
(01:53:25):
on the Trey hendricks In contract situation.
Speaker 13 (01:53:30):
Yeah, well, we'll see what happens with that. You know,
you guys all know how I feel about Trey's a
great player. I love Trey as a guy. He goes
out and plays well every single Sunday. He's very productive.
He's a guy that deserves to get paid and get
paid what he wants and what the market is.
Speaker 12 (01:53:46):
So, you know, like I said, we'll see what happens
with that. But you know, I love Trey and hope
he's with us.
Speaker 1 (01:53:54):
All right, So Joe said what he had to say.
He had to say what he had to say to
not create news, to not make any waves, to not
add another layer to this story. Well, at the same time,
he's being a good teammate. I think he's being a
good employee.
Speaker 5 (01:54:08):
You know, Frankly, it's it's It shouldn't be up to
the quarterback to have to answer questions repeatedly about contract situations,
but that is what comes with the territory.
Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:54:18):
I do think there is a difference in how he
has talked about Trey versus how he has talked about
players like t Higgins. You just heard what Trey, what
Joe said about Trey. Here is Joe after the Cowboys
game talking about t Higgins.
Speaker 13 (01:54:36):
But you know, those discussions are ongoing, and I'm confident
that I think we're gonna be able to do what
it takes to to bring Tea back. And you know,
I know that that I'm going to do what it
takes to get him back, and so is he. We've
had those talks, so you know those are those are
going to be off season discussions.
Speaker 12 (01:54:55):
But I think we're excited about that opportunity.
Speaker 7 (01:54:58):
Now.
Speaker 5 (01:54:58):
The obvious difference here is Trey Hendriton is currently under contract.
When Joe was talking about Tea, his deal was had
to expire within a few weeks. Uh With Trey Hendrickson,
I haven't heard Joe talk about well, I'll do everything
or express confidence that something is going to happen based
on having knowledge. It feels like with t Joe is
involved with Trey Hendrickson. Just based on what I hear
(01:55:20):
Joe say and not say, I don't come away with
the same impression. Sixty seconds on U see Basketball.

guess was taken back by the river.
Speaker 1 (01:56:09):
Are you supposing a box? Maybe a bag? And I
guess there were other birds there too, so that that
would suggest the pigeon is no longer with us. Oh
forgot a vulture? Yeah yeah, hopefully a vulture's not there
by the river. I don't know.

the Bearcats.
Speaker 1 (01:56:29):
Here it is.
Speaker 10 (01:56:32):
I'm going to continue to take these questions. Alan Train
wants to know, John, how did Cincinnati improve in your opinion? Well,
I'll say this about Cincinnati. I like what Wes Miller
has done out of the transfer portal, obviously getting Mustafascham
from UCF anchors the front court, Bob A. Miller, an
impact guy from FAU at the four spot who committed
(01:56:54):
last week, Jalen Celestine from Baylor. But you know, we
have seen Cincinnati be in a situation where it's added
talent before. We have seen Cincinnati win portal days in
April and May. What we haven't seen Cincinnati do since
twenty nineteen is make the NCAA tournament. And if you
are a proud Cincinnati Bearcat fan and follower, or even
(01:57:18):
just observe of the sport, the expectation for that program
is to play in the NCAA tournament. There is no
gray area for the Bearcats next season. It's NCAA tournament
or bust.
Speaker 5 (01:57:33):
Uh yeah, yes, John Rosstin on his podcast saying, I
think what most of us who care about Bearcat basketball
would would agree with.
Speaker 1 (01:57:43):
Hey, by the way, we have three days.
