Speaker 1 (00:00):
We do this weekly.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
We talk injuries, and unfortunately, right now we have a
lot of them to discuss with one of the experts
from Orthos Sincy Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. The great thing
about Ortho Sincy is they have specialists and locations and
services across the tri state, including walk in orthopedic urgent
care at five locations with extended evening and weekend hours

(00:22):
in Edgewood and Anderson. Learn more at Orthosincy dot com.
That's orthos ci Ncy dot com. Doctor Angel of Alaskaz
from Ortho since he is my guy. Not only does
he frequently come on our show to talk about injuries,
he's the guy who fixed my neck. I'm an Orthosincy
customer Orthos since he also took care of my daughter's

(00:44):
foot and my wife's foot. Basically we're an Orthosincy family.
But Doctor of Alaskaz is my guy. It's good to
have you. Let's talk about Hunter Green, so back on
the injured list, taken out, felt a little bit of
a pull with that groin that put him on the
injured list. Back in men and now back on the
injury list. After that start on Tuesday night, the original

(01:05):
diagnosis of the first groin strain was a grade one.
Walk me through the different groin straight grades and how
concerned should we be about the red staff as.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
You know, when you look at these injuries the growing area,
a lot of time you're talking about the aby doctor
or ad doctor, muscle or tendeon group. It is the
most that helped you to cross your legs. So when
you're kicking the ball, you cross the leg or what
you're pushing. You know, when you're throwing, that's the one
that you're pushing with. So there's different grades. We go one, two, three.

(01:41):
You know when the grade one is just a little injury,
and remember there's injury into the tendon level and there's injury.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Into the muscle level.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
Muscle level injury they do better than tenn tendon't take
a little bit longer. With a grade two or either
of these places, you will have a little bit of
tear of the muscle or ten on. A great three
is a complete disruption of the tendon or the or
the muscle. So I'm assuming the first time that he
came so quick, right, he was having like a muscle
you know, grade one strain and he was you know

(02:11):
recover really well.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
He was able to come and pay for you know,
three out it.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
So so are we talking about the possibility here that
maybe he came back a little bit too quickly. Could
he have injured it further where there's a higher grade
on it? And how concerning is this for the red
staff as well?

Speaker 4 (02:29):
You know, the second time, you know since since May seven,
right that he has you know, it's a month ago
and he already been on the DL twice.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
So you know, I assume the first.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Time you got an MRI, you you feel confident where
the injury is, and you know, a grade one you're.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Probably gonna have several weeks.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Especially we've got a strengthening program and you know these
guys are strong, and then you do a functional testing
that show you that that he's able to throw without
pain and he's able to have the same strengthening on
their legs.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
So these guys don't release that.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Easy unless you do a really thrill examination and fitska
exam and strengthening, you know, testing to be sure.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
But obviously it's concerned. When you got to a second time,
he probably aggravated.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Maybe he was strong enough to to to feel everybody
feel comfortable, he will be fine, and that's only something
else happened, right, So obviously it's a sequella from the front,
is from the first injury, and he's just you know,
on aggravation.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
And now they're gonna be more cautious about it.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, no question about that, and they should be because
of his obvious importance to the team. Doctor angel Alaska
is from Orthos since he is with US. Uh so,
I guess we now also have to talk about Ret Louder,
who pitched for the Reds late last season and then
his spring training was interrupted because of an elbow issue.
During a rehab start, he fell a pull in his oblique.

(03:52):
The read say it's a fairly significant oblique strain. Oblique
injuries are always weird. I feel like they must be
even more difficult for pictures because of just everything involved
in the in the motion of pitching a baseball. Let's
talk about obliques. What sort of potential timeline are we
talking about here?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
Well, you know, obliques are really really important muscle.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
On overhead athlete. You know, baseball.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Players, tennis players, everybody who will use the upper body
to throw a ball or to hit the ball, you know,
right handed pitchers get a bleak, mostly over the left
side because that's the side that turned put all the
four startings. So the ball comes quicker from your hand,
and you know, hitters is the other side, the front side,
so left handed hitter RYO blick, right handed hitter left

(04:40):
O bleak.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
So it is really coming on pitchers.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
You know, remember he's coming from an injury right of
the elbow, where the spring training was kind of different
that should be or not the same that he would expect.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
And you know there is you.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Know, there's a reason why you get you know, you
report on you know, February, and then you go and
slowly building up and you know probably after that staying
on the you know, in the in the injury list.
You know he wasn't or his body may not be
prepared for all this. You know, we'd always talk about
cold weather. You know how it's cold, your body don't

(05:15):
warm up.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Well, all those.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Things affected at least here, you know, he's being cold,
you know, even may so, so definitely, definitely that's something
that could be as a compensation from or changes things
from the elbow injuries or not being functionally strong enough
to do what he has to do.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
In the mouth.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, you know, I remember Johnny Quato in twenty thirteen
missed a lot of time. I think that season he
went on the injury list three times. He made eleven starts.
Is this sort of injury more difficult for pictures to overcome?

Speaker 4 (05:46):
Well, when you have to say significant or further significant injury,
the answer is yes, this is something that will.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
Will taste some times. They healed, right, they healed. But
a first significant injury. We talk about grades. This is
not a great one.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
This is not a This is probably grade two or
grade threes right there. When you use the word firly
significant and you're talking about over a grade two and
we know that you know, grade one, you know could.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Be four to six week rat too. We were talking
about the two months.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
So that's why probably they put in a sixty day
you know injury. Listen, and you know, I know I
remember Johnny quad on two thirteen.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
I was there. You know, you got your age coming injured.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
There's a lot of pressure you know, coming from you
know that you know, thirteenth season or you know, I
should say ten eleven twelve season, that was really good.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
I think, so that was a significant you know.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Hit for the team doctor Angel of Alaskas from Ortho Sincy.
Austin Hayes is back on the injury list, unfortunately for
him and the Reds, the third time this season. He
banged the ball off his foot and I broke my
foot doing that when I was a kid, so I
know how painful that can be.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
It feels like they've dodged a bullet here.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
It's it's not a fracture, but still he's on the
injury list with a foot contusion.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Can you explain what that is?

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Well, full contu is a bruise into the bond, right,
So he got hit by something, in this case a
fouble and he got inflammation on the suft tissue means
you know, the skin, the tendons, muscle and then went
into the bond.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Most of the time, you know, those.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Are those are tricky, right because you can see people
in the league.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
There's a guy what his name Siri used to be
with the Reds.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
He got a foul tip on his shin three days
later or whatever time, they get.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
A city scan.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
It was a frashuer, right, So those are tricky. You
know they probably did appropriate you know testing city scan
MRI and there's no bond damage and or fracture, and
you know it's a confusion. So you just need to
get the inflammation downe be sure that he's able to
push off without pain.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
That's what probably they feel that he could come.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Back raatively, you know quick.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
This was what May twenty nine, so you know June
a it will be you know, fourteen days right so
or close to that. So he should be able to
be back, you know, if he's able to walk, jog,
spring and cut and push off and perform on that level.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
All right, One more I want to ask you about,
will slightly switch gears and talk about Nick Haglan, the
Pride of Cincinnati FC. Cincinnati defender in the game a
week and a half ago against Atlanta suffered two broken
ribs and had to deal with a collapsed lung. So
that might not fall under the typical orthopedic category, but still,

(08:25):
can you explain to me surgically what's done to repair
a collapse lung?

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Well, you know, first it is uh you know unfortunately
that that is like a traumatic event, right, somebody get
hit the motor back lockxing and this case hit it
that agg into a rip case and you know definitely.
You know, the ribs can break and this case break
and one of them or two of them were you know,
display enough to punch the lung. You know, the ribs

(08:51):
are right there on top of the lungs and when
they break.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
There's a potential of hitting the long.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
That's why this is one of those things that is
important not just looking at the testing of the extra
for the refrasher is to be sure the long is
not collapsed. So the first thing is you need to
decompress that long collapsation and you do that what is
collab chess to They put a tube into the shed
and let you know the long collapse to repair itself.

(09:19):
It is you know that that's kind of the simple
way to fix it. And then after that, if your
ripcase is off or display well that ripcase is placed,
is it is puncturing the lungs, So you have to
put on the right place and address that and secure it.
And that's you know, is done with a plate.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
Like if you have an ankle.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Fracture, they put a plate on your ankle.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
They do the same thing.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
It is you know, there's there's titanium plates that is
a faster recovery and he's able to come back ratively quick. Obviously,
the bonds takes six weeks to heal. The question is
you know how bad was the long collapse and how
long it's gonna take for that on to reinflate again.
And he doesn't have any short of breath or any

(10:05):
sequela from that. So for the bony standpoint, you know,
you put the plate and you will recover quick.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Bonce healed in six weeks, right, but obviously you.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Know the long collapse is something that you have to
keep rechecking to be sure it is healing appropriately.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, is he going to be more vulnerable?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Would he have to wear something when he does come
back to protect that area?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Ah?

Speaker 4 (10:25):
No, not really, you know he has he will have that
plate right there that it is it is going to
be protecting him.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
You know, the place kind of from the outside.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Of the rick kase, so kind of protect if that
breaks again, the play shoe holder in place.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
All right, before we get out of here, we have
to talk about something very important. I know where your
attention is going to be tomorrow night, six o'clock, seven o'clock.
I think actually in Lexington, your daughter's Holy Cross Indians
taking on Harrison County in the Kentucky High School state tournament.
Give your daughter's team of Holy Cross some love for me.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Well, thank Tothy. I just get shields right now.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I haven't got shields in a.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Long time, older than then. After watching that.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
You know, grand slamming the sixth inning, you know, uh,
you know that was that was you know, crazy amazing.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
And I will tell you something.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
This team, it's a small school.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
You know, we know it's a small you know, private school.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
We don't have a lot of kids. It is hard
to get kids to play the sports. Uh, this girl
have worked really hard. Will give it a lot of
credit to you know, their coaches. They got three taxi
coaches right there.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
They are working with them. Corning head coach. And she
had believe in this kid.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
She came from the program and she has worked for
the last four years.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
So girls, you know, I don't know if you you know,
boys and girls different.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I got both of them. And the girls are are
listening more.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
They follow the more instruction than my boys. So I
think that that's one of the main things that this
team improved. They got a fantastic starting fisture is really important. Uh,
they're a really young team.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
And they really really really got hot at the right time.

Speaker 6 (12:06):
They want the all a for the school, their their
their side, and they get killed in the state, but
they came back and put down some big school you.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
Know like Ryle and Highlands in the semi final final
of the region. So really proud them. Will be there
actually Friday at ten am.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
They're leaving. They're now doing a you know, like.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
A pep rally or something at school in the next
couple of hours to start driving to Lexington.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
And we'll be there at ten am. Uh you know,
cheering for them at UK.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Really amazing experience and thank you for the opportunity to
give it a.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Little bit of love to them. They deserve it. The communities.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
They're so excited and hopefully we've got a big crowd
tomorrow there and they can they can you know, perform
like the way that they're doing.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Way.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Yeah, there you go representing the ninth region tomorrow night
against Harrison County, who I think is ranked tenth in
the state. That game is going to be a seven
o'clock tomorrow. We will be rooting for you and we
can't wait to have again. Doctor angel alaskaz Or Ortho
Sinsey thanks so much.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Hey, I'm really fine.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
We were ranked sixteen.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
You know why because nobody be living in the skids.
They say that.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
They they say that one thing should not have a problem.
To go over them, and I think they are a problem.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
They are a problem.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
That's their theme for their season. They believe there are
problem and they believe in theself.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
So thank you, you got it.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
That's my guy. Doctor angel Alaskaz. Good luck to Holy
Cross in the Kentucky High School Girls Softball Tournament taking
on Harrison County tomorrow at seven o'clock. Doctor angel Alaskas
