Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tony. Finally, the Bengals play a football game. Tonight. They
take on the Cleveland Browns one month from today this evening,
they're on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. But a
lot of those guys who are supposed to play against
the Browns are going to play this evening against Philadelphia.
Give me one thing you're looking for from the Bengals
tonight on offense.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Well, you know, let's start mow. How do both sides
operate with no use of smelling salts in the NFL anymore? So,
that's even before the game gets underway. Who knows what
that's going to be. But for me, it's all about
the guys up front, the offensive line. Yes, Dylan Fairchild
leads that group, because, as we talked yesterday, you'd like
to leave this game and say, Okay, you feel really
good about where you're out at the guard position with

(00:39):
Dylan Fairchild. Unfortunately, for much of training camp, there hasn't
been a lot about the offensive line that has led
to much comfort. There's a lot of questions, and you
give them a little bit of leeway. New offensive line coach,
new schemes, some new players that you're adding in there.
You've got to figure this out sooner than later. And
what better way than game one the preseason against a

(01:01):
different opponent to go be physical with Again, you're playing
against twos and threes. You're a first team offensive line
in the National Football League, you should dominate the line
of scrimmage. That's what I want to see tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I want to see Dylan Fairchild just win the job tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, it's a job that was pretty much given to him,
and there's not much of a battle like if you
think across the NFL or years past, there's always been
that battle where it feels like both guys are getting
the lion's share of the reps and it's going to be,
you know, a close one down there. It really hasn't
felt like anyone's pushing Dylan Fairchild, and sometimes I think

(01:36):
you do need a little of that competition from a
camp standpoint. If things don't go well tonight and he
doesn't take that job commandingly, I'm interested to see what
Plan V is as well.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
You know, we talked the other morning about tackling, right,
we want to see the Bengals tackle better this season.
That can begin in the preseason. They really don't tackle
during training camp practice. Beyond that, is there a player
or two who you'll be focusing on this evening.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
You know, the secondary is always intriguing, But for me,
I want to see the rookies. Obviously, so much was
made in the offseason about Shamar Stewart Demetrius Knight as well.
They have both shown really well since they've been in camp.
Demetrius Knight since he became a Cincinnati Bengal and everything
he did in the offseason. But this is a different animal.
When when you know you don't have to finish the

(02:21):
play making a tackle, or maybe you get the script
to some of the plays, you can play a little faster.
It's easy Now when you start to question, or you're
hesitant or you're unsure, you play a little slower. You're
a little more indecisive. I want to see these two
who were drafted early that are going to play significant
roles on this defense. I want to see him play fast.
I want to see him play physical. I want to

(02:42):
see him make some plays in space. I want them
to leave a mark on this game tonight to make
you think, Okay, the Bengals might have something here they
can build around.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Bengals and Eagles tonight. That game is going to kick
off at seven thirty, preseason game number one. You can
hear it live on one O two point seven, WEBN
and esp ND fifteen thirty with Tony Pike. I'm Mawegar
