Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, time to get together with a voice to
the Bengals. The voice of the Bearcats are good Buddy, Dan,
Hoard Dan, it's all anybody's talking about the Joe Burrows situation.
I'd like to move on from that and what to
expect now, Dan, because the bottom line is Jake Browning
is the guy. He did it two years ago.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I'm with you, Tom, you know, I think we're all
familiar with the stages of grief. The final stage is acceptance,
So that's where I am. It's unfortunate it happened. There
are a lot of quarterbacks right now that are dealing
with injuries. I think Joe will be back, and I
honestly think we'll be back this year. But anyway, Jake
Browning is the guy. He was four and three as
a starter two years ago. He's got a two and
(00:42):
zero buffer to try to keep the Bengals in contention,
and they're facing a team this week that's got an
injured quarterback. So let's see if they can get to
three and zero and improve that buffer even more.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Dan, just as a casual fan and you have access
to all these kinds of numbers, but when I watch
the Bengals, with Browning as the quarterback. To me, are
they a lot more under center than they are in shotgun?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
They were two years ago. Absolutely, And if you remember
at the end of that seven game stretch when that
under center stuff was working, a lot of people said, well,
maybe they'll incorporate that more now with Joe Burrow, and
they did a little bit, but not a lot, largely
because that's really not what Joe likes to do. He
likes to be in the shotgun, see what the defense
(01:25):
is doing and get the ball where they can't cover it.
And hey, he does that better than anybody, so it
makes sense. But you played the strength of your players.
Jake Browning is very comfortable with a play action fake
with his back to the defense, turning around and making
a throw, So I'm sure we are going to see
more of that, and I imagine we'll probably see more
of Chase brown as well.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Very quickly, Dan, what do the Bengals do at this
point about a backup quarterback to Jake Browning.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
They're going to have to go out and get one.
Brett Rippen is on the roster as the practice squad quarterback,
but I don't think that they would feel all that
comfortable about putting him in with the intent of staying
in contention while Joe Burrow is out, so I know
they were making calls yesterday. Tuesday is often a day
in the NFL for tryouts. You know, it's the day
(02:12):
off for most NFL teams, so when there's a need,
teams often bring players in for tryouts. So I would
not be shocked at all if there are a few
players at the stadium today. I don't know that for
a fact, but it wouldn't shock me at all.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
All right, Danny, you are the best, my friend. Hope
you have a great rest of your day, sir.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Thanks Tom, right back at you.
