Speaker 1 (00:00):
Rocky. On Monday night, the Bengals will be in Denver
to take on the Broncos, which means Cincinnati will have
two opponents. One the Broncos in their very good defense.
Number two that thin Rocky Mountain Air. So in your
playing career, at least in the regular season, you played
two games in Denver. We always hear about the effect
of altitude. As somebody who has played in NFL games

(00:23):
in the Mile High City, what's it like.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I gotta tell you, it's a real thing. And so
my experience what sticks out to me is before every game,
my warm up was exactly the same. I would come
out of the locker room, you know, a couple hours
for the game, and I'd take one lap around the
field and then I do various other calisthetics. Well, I
remember after doing that, just that simple jog around the field,

(00:46):
I was winded, man, I mean seriously distinctly recall that,
and especially early in the game, because early on you're
kind of amped up and you're kind of it's harder
to breathe anyway. So I remember ruling and a lot
of the guys, especially my year we played them with
the Chiefs, a lot of guys had that kind of experience.
I felt as the game went on, either I forgot

(01:09):
about it or subsided a bit. But no, playing and
altitude is the real thing.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Is there anything you can do to prepare for it
or simulate the conditions?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah, I mean coaches have talked about that, and it's
always you know, do you get out there earlier or
do you get out there later and just kind of,
you know, plow through it. I don't think in the
short term there's anything you can do to prepare for it.
They have, you know, they'll have the extra oxygen things
on the sideline, which I guess help. I don't really know.
I never know if those things helped the or not.
But outside of playing there and being there, you know,

(01:42):
in a consistent manner where you get used to the altitude,
I think it's just something you got to deal with
for a day and then forget about it and move on.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
One more obstacle for the Bengals coming off their most
lopsided loss in franchise history. Bengals and Broncos on Monday Night.
The game will kick off at eight fifteen and you'll
listen to it live on seven hundred W Weld up
with Rocky Boyman Mowig

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
