How the tradition of the angel on top of the tree got started

Speaker 1 (00:00):
One particular Christmas season a long time ago. Santa was
getting ready for this annual trip, but there were problems everywhere.
Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves
didn't produce the toys as fast as the regular one,
So Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being

(00:21):
behind schedule. A net wouldn't do. Then missus Claws told
Santa that her mother was coming to visit. This stressed
Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer,
he found that three of them were about to give
birth and two had jumped the fence and were out

(00:44):
to who knows where. More stress. He didn't need that.
Then he began to load the sleigh, one of the
boards cracked, The toy bag fell to the ground, scattered
the toys everywhere. So frustrated, Sanna went into the house
to get a up coffee and the shot of whiskey.

(01:04):
When he went to the cupboard, he found that the
elves had hit the liquor and there was nothing to
drink but water. He wasn't into that mort stress. In
his frustration, he accidentally dropped the coffee pot. It broke
hundreds of pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went

(01:24):
to get the broom, he found that the mice had
eaten the straw. Rather, he didn't have that to do either.
Then the doorbell rang. Santa Claus was cursing a little
bit all the way to the door, and he opened
the door and there was a little angel and a
great big Christmas tree, and the angel said, Merry Christmas, sinner,

(01:51):
isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree
for you. Isn't it a lovely tree?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Where would you like me to?

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top
of the tree.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Oh yeah, I remember he did that every year back
toward the end, when you know, before he retired. I
remember somebody was chuckling in the background. Rob. That may
have been you, because that was a later recording of it.
But I think Dad, Joe. Didn't Dad do that every
single year at Christmas time? Yeah? Joe by request, Yeah,
Joe always asked him to do it. But fond memories

of my dad, and of course I always got to
kick out of that. That that that sort of a
bit of a shaggy dog story on reaching the final conclusion,
Just wonderful fond memories of Dad here as we approach
Christmas holiday season. I hope my mom is enjoying it,
and I know she experiences some melancholy, of course everyone would,
