Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now best morning show in Boston, Lillie and Lisa.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
In the morning.
Speaker 3 (00:04):
It's just a great start to my day on Kiss
run Away.
Speaker 4 (00:10):
Well, good morning everybody, and a happy election day to you.
It is Tuesday, November fifth, uh, and the polls will
be opening this morning in less than an hour now
at seven o'clock.
Speaker 5 (00:26):
It is early morning of the first Tuesday in November.
Speaker 6 (00:29):
This is election day.
Speaker 7 (00:32):
Yeah, thiswid vote yep, head to the polls, Go volumes.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
Doesn't it seem like we've waited forever for this election?
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Just want it to be over?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
My god, I can't not hit stop. I keep texting stop.
I can get all these ads for like, you know,
all election stuff texted to me, and it's like stop
to end.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
I'm like stop, stop stop.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Yeah, And I get constant email and everything from candidates
I've never even heard of. Yeah, races that I never
knew existed. But crazy election this has been, and it
all comes to a grinding halt. I don't think we'll
have a result tonight.
Speaker 8 (01:10):
But I don't think it could be days.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Well it was the last one. It was days, right, yeah,
it was.
Speaker 9 (01:15):
They have to count all the mail in ballots and
all these a lot of other states.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Most important thing, get out and vote, Bill Billy.
Speaker 10 (01:21):
Voting is the most important part of being an American
because in America we have what's called a democracy.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
You know what.
Speaker 8 (01:28):
I like that. I like that we've been discussing the
ballot question.
Speaker 9 (01:31):
Yeah, and I feel like I for the first time,
I know the ballot question and I know my position
on them.
Speaker 8 (01:39):
Yeah, and I'm happy about that. But we became educated.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yeah, We're going to have a discussion on two of
them this morning. Chef Andy Husbands, by the way, world
champion barbecue chef from the Smoke Shop Places is going
to be calling in just after nine o'clock this morning
on question five right on tipping, tipping, war workers or
tip workers, and whether or not the minimum ways should
go up. And also we're going to be having an
(02:05):
open discussion. I think it's going to be our topic
time this.
Speaker 9 (02:07):
Morning, right it is on question three, what to know
about the ballot measure that would allow ride share drivers
to unionize.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Now I need to know more about that one as
I head to the voting.
Speaker 11 (02:19):
Well, we're going to open our phone lines people to
talk about it and discuss uber drivers, lyft drivers.
Speaker 9 (02:26):
You know, I do know that a lot of Uber
drivers listen because any time I hop in one, they
always are so nice.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
And remember recently our complicent for Africa and the Uber
driver had kiss on Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. A
lot of Uber drivers listen. Which can we thank you
if you're listening out there right now for listening to
the Billy and Lisa Morning Show. Any time the topic
of question three has been presented to me, it seems
people say, yeah, I worry about Uber prices going up,
(02:53):
so we need to know. You know, Uber drivers that
listen feel free to call in and give us your tell.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Us a lot wear and tear in their cars and
like you know, they have to take care of yeah,
and gas, and it's like and then, I mean, I've
done like Uber eats and stuff like you know before,
and I would do it when it was only lucrative
because it takes a lot of money out of your
own pocket if you're doing it during slow times or
not getting into it.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
How often would you open the bags slightly?
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Never?
Speaker 1 (03:20):
I never did that.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I didn't you know you did?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
No? I really didn't. No, no, no, because they seal the.
Speaker 8 (03:25):
Bag, they do unless you have something to reseal it.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I wouldn't do that. I'm not back rhyming.
Speaker 8 (03:30):
Yeah, stapler around the car.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
You don't think she would. But let's pause that for
a couple of seconds. How did I not know you
were driving Uber eats?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Definitely did, because I talked about before when I didn't
make any money here, I was like poor and I
need money.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Okay, how did that work? So you would do this
radio program? Yeah, and then take your car where like.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
So I live in I live in the Randolph area,
so I put and I lived near a lot of
restaurants in like fast food places. So I would put
it on it at my house and see what it
was the rates were like, and what was if it
was worth going out. So if I got a big
enough order, I'm like, okay, I'll go out, and then
I would keep going for a couple hours a night.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Oh. So it's it's that independent that you can just
start work or whenever you want, right.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
That's a good thing about it. It's great for college
kids or you know, maybe a stay at home parent
or anybody wants that needs extra money.
Speaker 8 (04:24):
Someone else retired.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Yeah, I even have to be signed up.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
You do, you have to sign up sure you have
a license and you're insured, and then once they process
all that, then you can go on hop on whenever
you want.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
I could hop on right now.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah. I know a friend of mine I'm not going
to mention names, but very very successful guy in a
very high profile job that for a while and he
may still be was driving for Uber simply because he
enjoyed it. He found it to be very relaxing.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
Well, it is pretty social.
Speaker 9 (04:50):
I mean you're picking different people up every day, you're
talking to them.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (04:54):
Yeah, I just did.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
The food park because I didn't want people. I don't
want to talk to anybody, you know what I mean,
So I just dropped off.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
That's a good idea.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Yeah, you should never be subjected to people, or they
shouldn't be subjected to me.
Speaker 5 (05:06):
Good point.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
But we all know she invaded the bags. You get it,
you're a genius. She carried a stapler, you chicken.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
No one gets hurt, and.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Nobody knows, you know, nobody knows. They're not going to
see the missing stable. Oh god, So it's election day.
It's going to be a crazy day. Obviously, we'll talk
about the election. Will definitely take your calls on the
ballot questions here in Massachusetts, especially, like Lisa said, question three,
we'll be putting that up as a topic time right exactly,
(05:44):
and what time is topic time?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Fifteen seven.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Next morning? And something else we're going to talk about
as soon as we get into entertainment, We're going to
talk about Justin's appearance on the Channel five News last night.
He made me cry. I cried in my own living room.
I couldn't believe it. Michelle had to go get me
some tissues. But okay, entertainment is up next stand by.
Speaker 8 (06:12):
From the Planet Fitness Kiss one Owait Studios.
Speaker 9 (06:15):
We're back with a Billy and Lisa in the morning
on Kiss.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Hey, guys, welcome back, Happy Tuesday, Happy Election Day. We're
just well, we're under twenty minutes to go before they
open the polls and people can start voting here in Massachusetts.
Don't forget the ballet questions. We'll be talking about the
ballet questions right here on the Billy and Lisa Morning
Show this morning. Right now, I want to spend a
couple of minutes talking about our guy, Justin, who was
(06:41):
featured on w CVB Channel five last night at five
o'clock and eleven o'clock, Justin, did you watch Lisa?
Speaker 8 (06:51):
I did.
Speaker 9 (06:51):
I sat down with my husband Tim for the five
o'clock and like you, billy, I mean, we know your
story and we love you. But it really brought us
to tears as well.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was crazy scene in my
house because I knew it was coming on, and I
kept saying to Michelle during the day, Hey, don't forget,
we have to watch five o'clock, Channel five because Justin's
going to be featured with Marie Definos. And all of
a sudden, I was walking upstairs and I heard the
news saying okay, and I said, oh, honey, Porry, come down,
(07:25):
come down. Justin's on, He's on, He's on. And she
comes running down the stairs and bangs into me as
I'm on my way down the stairs, and then we
both sat on the couch with Titus and it was
awesome and I cried.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
And Maria did a great she did a great job.
Speaker 11 (07:40):
Yeah, I have a couple of things to say, thank
you to Maria's Deefinals Channel five. Amazing piece. I really,
I really liked it. It was very powerful. I thought,
you know, when I was doing it, I didn't realize that.
I will say that after the piece ran, my wife
and I watched it. We were very emotional. Yes, you know,
obviously it brought up a lot of stuff for us,
so you know, we kind of talked and we hugged
(08:01):
and all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
And then my phone rangon.
Speaker 11 (08:03):
It was Maria and she said, my phone is blowing
up and the news station is receiving is blowing up
with calls and messages. And then I said wow, and
I thanked her again, and then I picked up my
phone and my phone has not stopped since last night. Yeah,
I mean, thousands of messages. It's just amazing. It's amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
I mean, your story and a story of so many others,
really touch home with a lot of people. I mean,
you know, your story has been felt by a lot
of families in a lot of different homes.
Speaker 11 (08:34):
I mean, listen, a lot of people talk its election day, right,
people are on one side on the other side, and
you know, they get angry and stuff. But there's another
epidemic out there of addiction. You know, people are struggling.
So you know, I know what it was like to
be hopeless. So to be able to tell my story
is great. And there was one part they left out, though,
which I want to share right here. So in the
beginning of my beginning of my career, I never talked
(08:54):
about my past. I was scared. I used to walk
around in fear that you would find out about my past.
And then you probably remember this. It was about ten
years ago. It was Aaron Hernandez was in prison. And
so you guys were in my studio off the air,
and you were talking about prison. You were asking these
questions to each other, like about prison. You didn't know,
you know, I forget the specific questions, and I wasn't thinking,
(09:16):
and I started answering the questions, and you both looked
at me and you go, how do you know that?
Speaker 5 (09:21):
And I go, when I.
Speaker 11 (09:22):
Started stuttering, I'll never forget, and you go beyond at least,
he goes, come on, be honest. So I told you guys,
and you go, that's the coolest thing I've ever heard.
And I go, don't tell anybody, And you guys said,
you need to tell people your story.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
And that's what started it.
Speaker 11 (09:37):
Wow, Well Billy just cared because you know now is
going to be his bodyguard.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
That's all he cared about.
Speaker 8 (09:41):
Oh yeah, I mean, yes, that you're the toughest person.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
He knows, yes, and I'm happy to be that.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
But I didn't really say a lot though.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
No, it doesn't say but I think, but.
Speaker 9 (09:52):
I think your story and your message, it's like you
can pull yourself out.
Speaker 8 (09:55):
You can you right.
Speaker 11 (09:57):
Anything, anything, anything, anything, if you have hopes and dreams, listen,
if you're still breathing, you have a shot.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Yeah, you have a shot.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
And I'm with Lisa. Maria did a phenomenal job. Really
the story told really really good. Well, she's very good. Yeah,
so shout out to Channel five and all our friends
over there, especially Maria Stefano.
Speaker 11 (10:17):
Yeah, if you want to watch the piece, it's on
my Instagram at justin Beezy and also the kiss want
to wait Instagram.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
And there was a second part at eleven o'clock. I
didn't get to see that.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
I missed it.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
It's different.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Yeah, different, Yeah, that's you know what. That's the one
where your shout out is in.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
I was waiting for.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I did nothing but talk about you now.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
The entertainment updates with the Billy Cops.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Up all right, here we go. It is election day.
No bigger story than that today. Both Kamala Harrison, former
President Trump wrapping up their campaigns very late last night
and right now just in it all comes down to
the vote.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
It's time to vote.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
It's time to vote.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Yeah, we're talking the White House, the balance of power
up the grounds today, the Senate and the House, and
again the big issues as people walk into the polls today,
things like the economy, immigration, the border, abortion and polls
open in just a few minutes at seven o'clock and
they will close tonight at eight o'clock at the election day.
Speaker 12 (11:24):
My guy, I.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Can't wait for this to be over.
Speaker 8 (11:28):
I think we all feel the same way.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, it seems like it's been going on forever.
Speaker 5 (11:33):
Yeah, it's going to be several days though.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
And you know, there are a lot of other races too,
Elizabeth Warren and John Deeton. I mean, so again, the
balance of power of the House, the Senate.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
You know, at least I was saying earlier, I'm actually
really excited to vote for these questions.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Yeah, you really looked.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Into it, and I feel like I know what I
want to vote, and I think they're really all good
questions too.
Speaker 8 (11:52):
We really became informed.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Yeah, it seems like every election there's one ballot question
that everybody paying attention to. But in this case, people
are interested in all five.
Speaker 8 (12:03):
And that's just directly just for us.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
It's just Massachusetts exactly how we're controlling our fate going
forward in the state.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
So so you know, get out and vote, and that's
the key, that's your right. You got to get out
and cast your vote.
Speaker 11 (12:17):
Be a point, got to fight for your right to vote.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
So yesterday we talked about Jason Kelcey slapping the cell
phone out of that guy's hand at a Penn State game.
I thought he did the right thing, but he apologized.
Speaker 13 (12:33):
But I'm not happy with anything it took place. I'm
not proud of it. And you know, in a heated moment,
I chose to great hate with hate, and I just
don't think that that's a productive thing. I really don't.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
He even apologizes perfectly.
Speaker 8 (12:54):
Yeah, but that was a good statement.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Having heard that statement, it's a good state hate.
Speaker 9 (13:00):
No, it's not productive, yeah, and he's right, yeah, but.
Speaker 11 (13:03):
It's also it's also a testament that you know, we're
all human exactly exactly.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
But was the idiot who taunted him? Was he looking
for a potential lawsuit? Probably you have to consider that.
Speaker 8 (13:14):
Penn States has launched an investigation.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Meantime, Travis Kelcey and the Chiefs are still undefeated. Pretty
wild game last night. Baker Mayfield took the Bucks downfield
with seconds left, tied the game. They could have gone
for two and they didn't.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, they should have at that point.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
I know. Just have you noticed the Chiefs have barely
won every game.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
They're eight nine, Yeah, but they still WINNA find championship
teams find a.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Way to win.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (13:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Taylor was there, Yes, she was.
Speaker 10 (13:51):
She was.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
Yes, I thought you looked great.
Speaker 8 (13:54):
You had her little jean shorts on and her cowboy boots.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
She's really into that shorts with a high cowboy she
looks great. Yeah. Yeah. She wrapped up her ears towards
the US leg and now she's got a few weeks
off until she arrives in Toronto, Canada. I think it's
November fourteenth. Just announced Kelly Clarkson will host the Tree
Lighting at Rockefeller again.
Speaker 14 (14:16):
I'm especially excited though, because for the second year in
a row, I'm actually gonna host Christmas and Rockefeller. It's
a live two hour special December courth, at eight pm
Eastern on NBCM. Peacock filled with the best music starts
at in surprises, and of course the lighting of the
world famous Christmas tree that is so special.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Isn't it from Massachusetts this year?
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Yes? It is. The Rockefeller Tree is from Massachusetts. I
forget what town, so I only Rochester snow the town
I had never heard of.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
I don't know, some small town.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
But that's pretty cool. Look at bragging rights at Rockefeller Center.
We don't know the lineup yet, but I'm sure it'll
be good. And just announced Alicia, you gonna love this
sting and Jennifer Hudson will join the voice as Mega mentors.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
Oh I love that Saustan when he came through Boston.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Yes you did.
Speaker 8 (15:08):
It's as good as he ever was.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I just want to know it's from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
No idea, which is what people are flocking there?
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yeah, Well, apparently they've got enough room in the town
to grow a giant tree.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
I'm assuming it's like in the berk Shoes.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Yeah, it's going to be cut down Thursday. Well, I
brought to New York and that's an interesting thing to witness.
The transport of the tree. Yeah, on the flatbed. I
guess they call it. I'm looking at it right now.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Oh that's a hell of a tree.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Beautiful, Well, of course it is. It's going to Rockefeller Center.
Speaker 15 (15:42):
Have you guys.
Speaker 9 (15:43):
I've gone a couple of times to do like the
ice skating.
Speaker 8 (15:47):
See the tree. It's really fine. It's a nice little trip.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Oh, New York at Christmas time is amazing New York City. Anyway,
back to the Voice, Jennifer Hudson will team up with
Michael b Bla and Reba McIntyre, and Sting will team
up with Snoop and Gwen Stefani. Now there's a report,
okay that I got, and Justin's gonna back me on
this one before you say anything. Whenny I know, we
(16:11):
get the weird news sources and the headlines. But there
was a story that I got on my phone several
days ago, and I forgot to mention it that Gwen
Stefani is really upset with Blake Shelton because he's put
on a lot of weight. Now Justin backed me on that.
Speaker 11 (16:30):
I thought it was a bit I made up billy story, Lisa,
But I did some research and this is from Yahoo
dot Com is pretty credible. He's not a national inquirer.
It says that Blake Shelton's been packing on so many
pounds his wife Gwen wants to ship him off to
a fat farm to cure his deep seated issues with
overeating and his love of fattening fair like country fried steak,
(16:52):
mashed potatoes and go in Velveda dip Ooh I love that.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Yeah, he's into Belveda dips when you know it's to
check in.
Speaker 11 (17:01):
It says his weight yoyo's up and down. He'll lose
weight and then go right back to his bad habits
and pile it all on again.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
So it's a real story.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
I guess.
Speaker 11 (17:11):
So he's he's he's he's tipping the scales at two fishes.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Oh wow, he's a.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Big fellow, but he's tall.
Speaker 8 (17:18):
He carries it well, he does.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
The point is he's not carrying it well.
Speaker 8 (17:24):
Well for Gwen.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well, Gwen seems health conscious, and it's probably more about
his health.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Like you, I think he's exact right. So you're probably
thinking like he can't be stuff doesn't work.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
Can I just read one more thing?
Speaker 4 (17:36):
Please?
Speaker 11 (17:38):
He says, quote he's going hog wild on barbecue pork
sandwiches with all the fixings. And all of his other
favorite foods. Gwen's obsessed with her diet and worried he's
on his way to being obese.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Oh boy, and this is a good looking guy, not
that he can't be good looking and overweight. I mean,
I'm just saying it's just a weird story to pop.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
There's something going on behind Yeah, yeah, there's eating his feelings.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Maybe, Yeah, there's probably a deeper rooted issue.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
And honestly, when you have that type of resources that
they have, people that can help him.
Speaker 8 (18:10):
But she's it's not a quick sex.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
It's not.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
No, I've been there. I know not.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
It's it's a lot of support.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Yeah, and we'll be supportive of them.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
You're ridiculous.
Speaker 8 (18:21):
Oh my goodness, the thing is blake.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
If Billy was Gwen Stefani, he'd be like saying the
same thing. Oh totally, honey, it's time to put the
food down.
Speaker 8 (18:30):
No, he would say, you're really going to eat that?
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yeah? Well, I think I remember this being part of
the deal to say that.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yeah, no, wonder we.
Speaker 8 (18:43):
Have to eat before we go out to dinner with them.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Never, never forget time.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
My sister ate a hot dog at the garden up
in the concourse, because we were sitting with Billy and
Michelle and she didn't want him to see her.
Speaker 7 (18:53):
Eating sickness is a contract, you know.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Oh my god, No, I'm kidding. Obviously, I'm kidding. Blake
shout very good, No, you're not kidding. Tell Joey Faton
to put the sandwich down. We need to stop. So
the Weekend is trying another movie project. Now that idol
project of his didn't go well.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Well, that was a TV show screen.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
This is a movie called The Hurry Up Tomorrow, same
title as his upcoming album. It's a musically driven, psychological thriller.
He's in the movies in the movie, yeah, and so
are Jenna Ortega and Barry Kogan.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Okay, but Barry when he was in what's that movie
that he was in that? Yeah, he can do some
weird method actors. They're going to call on him to
do some weird.
Speaker 11 (19:47):
Come on, Oh my god, come.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
I'm just gonna end it right there, you know, before
we get trouble on election day. I'm just gonna say
all of this, whether you like it or not, was
brought to you by the ninety nine restaurant. Blake. Check
this out. You can cozy up to irresistible new fall
(20:19):
flavors at the ninety nine restaurant, like the freshly baked
home style chicken pot pie. Oh yeah, come on, Blake
packed with chicken top of the buttery flaky crust. Or
you can try the creamy short red mac and cheese.
You got My son just had that. That's right, you
were there the other night.
Speaker 8 (20:37):
Delicious. It comes in a little skillet. It's delicious, absolutely delicious.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
You gotta love the nines. And there you go.
Speaker 8 (20:48):
From the Planet Fitness Kiss one O eight Studios.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
We're back with a Villy and Lisa in the morning.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Hey guys, so welcome back. And as of ten minutes ago,
the polls are open Election Day, and the polls are open.
Here we go. This thing is on, Yep, this thing
is on. In the meantime, let's give away a pair
of tickets to the sold out jingle Ball Why not
caller twenty five six one seven eight. I think automatically
(21:18):
the keyword has to be vote because everybody should get
out and vote today. Okay, So vote is the keyword, okay,
Producer Riley. And while we wait for College twenty five,
The Karen Reid Travel is back in the news today. Right,
it is.
Speaker 9 (21:32):
Both sides, prosecution and defense, yesterday filed emotion to delay
the trial until April first because they want to retest
forensic evidence and they have new expert witnesses, so they
want more time.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Yeah, didn't they want to get a closer forensic look
at that suv.
Speaker 9 (21:51):
Yes, that was one of the things things. Yeah, right,
and new expert witnesses.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Yeah, And it's interesting that both sides agree, yeah, there
should be a delay that.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Well, the first is almost a whole year, right, last,
and that's all. I mean, this is an exhausting case.
Speaker 8 (22:06):
It is.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
It's a long time years of no solution.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
And is the delay in a big way because of
the civil trial that's going to be going on to
or I know that reads lawyers were asking for a delay.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
It's a completely different.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
They're saying that they're going to be looking for new witnesses,
new like it's evidence.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
It sounds like it's going to be a whole new trial.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Yeah, this is very common.
Speaker 11 (22:28):
And then the you know, in the in the justice system,
to move court dates back, you know, you want to
present the best case possible, right, That's what it is.
So I'm not surprised. God, it might get moved again
after to further back.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Oh yeah, you know. Meantime you've got families involved, and
emotions involved, and lawyers involved, and so then where does
the civil case stand?
Speaker 3 (22:50):
The civil case, I think they were trying to get
it to go after the right this trial.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
So now we're looking at what twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Oh my god, probably for that, I mean the amount
of money that has to be spent for like lawyers
and recent investigation and all that on both sides.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
You know, maybe at some point this week we should
get our in house lawyer, Catherine loftis on. Yeah, it's
a good idea walk us through the civil case as
well as this and what's going on for delay. Yeah. Meantime,
what is Karen Reid doing all this time?
Speaker 8 (23:23):
Well, she's been doing interviews.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
Yeah, but that's the key. Yeah, Yeah, she's done a
couple of network interviews and Vanity Fair was the last.
Speaker 15 (23:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (23:32):
Well, we had a door dash driver last week told
us that she delivered food to Karen Reid's house and
she got like ten wake up wraps from Duncan.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Yeah, she's very hungry.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
I think she had people helping her move it was
a dumpster outside. She's moving.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Yeah, oh wow, she was doing some work.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Just crazy. All right, let's go to Jen. Hey, Jen,
you call it twenty five.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Hey, Hey, I'm so excited.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Well, we're excited to have you for years, and yet
here you pick up the phone to and you're in.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
Today was the day it was?
Speaker 2 (24:05):
And free Karen Reid.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Free Karen Reid. Okay, Hey, Jen, you're gonna get out
and vote today. I am good for you have to work.
We're going to be addressing the ballot questions on the
show this morning, so you might be interested in that
before you hit the polls. But you are called twenty five.
You do know the keyword, right, Yes, it's vote, it's vote.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
It's vote.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
Get on and vote volumes, So hold on because you
got the tickets, so you're in. Okay, but now you're
going to wait.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Well, you're going to qualify now for the jackpar Right, Liz.
Speaker 9 (24:39):
It's your shot at one hundred and eight thousand dollars
and four front row tickets to jingle Ball.
Speaker 11 (24:44):
Oh, there you go, eight ten to your next shot
coming up next ballot question three.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
We're going to discuss it. What do you think, let
us know that's next one.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Kiss Hilly and Lisa.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Way, Okay, we're back. It's election day. Obviously, that's the
big story, the press, cidential race, the Senate race, the
race for the House, everything else. But here in Massachusetts,
it's the ballot questions.
Speaker 8 (25:07):
It definitely is that have people talking.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
And we've talked a lot about question five, and we're
going to talk more about question five in the nine
o'clock hour this morning, but right now we're talking about
question three. And this is all about Uber, lyft and
other transportation services right late exactly.
Speaker 9 (25:22):
So question three what to know about the ballot measure
that would allow ride share drivers to unionize. That's what
we're voting on.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
So they're looking to become less totally independent, like, they
want to have benefits, they want they want to be well,
they want to have a union.
Speaker 9 (25:38):
So part of the part of the article on Boston
dot Com says drivers know that the best anecdote to
their industry sub minimum wages, unfair deactivations, and unsafe working
conditions is the power to collectively bargain for better standards
through a union.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
H We're big fans of Uber and Lyft. We are
I mean, let's face it, and we know a lot
of drivers listen and they can call in at any
time we want them six one seven, one uh eight.
When you think about this, and I was thinking about
this the other night when this ballot question came up, towns,
think about when Uber first came out. What what an
(26:13):
incredible invention that was. Think about how much overnight we
all started using Uber and lyft.
Speaker 8 (26:20):
Right, you were just hopping into someone's car.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Yeah, yep, and it works and it does work, and
now they deliver. They're delivering food here.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
This morning we just ordered exactly. So it's amazing a
giant part of our lives. You know, we're traveling, we're
going to the airport, we go to a restaurant. We
don't want to take the car, we don't want to
deal with parking. You just pick up the phone, you
call uberts outside your house in minutes.
Speaker 11 (26:42):
Yeah, I mean, I'd like to hear people's opinion on
why it would be no. That's what I would like
to people who are against it exactly both yeah, on
both sides, and any drivers explain explain it to us.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Yeah, is it a no? Because then it's going to
cost more money.
Speaker 11 (26:57):
To take Uber's at the issue or is that one
thing in the union and they can go on strike.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
That's another thing.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
But I think they already you know, they price gouge
depending on like serch you know, they do surging if
it's busy, if there's a concept or whatever.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
And I don't think that the driver is getting much
more of that.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
I think Uber's pocketing way more of that surge than
the driver is.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
So they put more money in the Uber driver's post.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
That's what I think.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Yeah, so you're saying when there's a gouge because of demand,
the gouge isn't coming from the driver.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, because Uber's that's the rate.
Speaker 8 (27:27):
If you're listening and you're driving for Uber, please call
us and tell.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Us yeah or lift Yeah. You know.
Speaker 11 (27:32):
Ashton Gutscher was an early investor in Uber. He made
a lot of money Uber.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Well, because think about it, they figure out a way
to not have to have any real costs to have
millions of people be using their service.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
They don't have to own one car. They don't own.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Uber doesn't own a car, they don't own the insurance,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 9 (27:50):
It's another thing they're fighting for, is that they've got
to maintain their car.
Speaker 8 (27:53):
Sure should be a part of it.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Maintenance, you got service, you got fuel. Let's go to
the phone.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
So it's that first one on the airline.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
One nayar hey, nurse year are you driving? Are you
a driver?
Speaker 10 (28:04):
Good morning? Yes, I'm an over driver, yes, sir, okay,
eight years now.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
We love you.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
So now you walk us through this. I'm guessing you
want to be unionized, right.
Speaker 10 (28:15):
Actually I'm against it. Woh why yeah? Why really against it?
Because the minute people start to get involved, it's only
been getting worse for us, and we're less and less independent.
The beauty of it was that we were very independent.
Now that we have people getting involved about it, it's
only been getting worse, getting less money for everything. Ubers
(28:41):
cuts been higher and higher, and honestly, like, I've been
doing it for nine years, so I'm one of the
third drivers to be doing it, and lately you have
to work harder. Everything is more expensive. Cars are more expensive,
mechanics are more expensive, and we make this money.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
So why wouldn't you want to be unionized?
Speaker 10 (29:05):
Because then it's they control you more. They said you
where you can drive, there's more rules, there's more regulation,
it takes off of the independency and that that was
the beauty of it.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Before I let you go, one more quick question because
we have a lot of calls coming in. We were
just discussing a couple of minutes ago, the so called
gouging when cars are in demand. Does the gouging come
from you, the driver or from the company.
Speaker 10 (29:33):
And it's Uber controls everything. We don't do anything. Okay,
the gouging definitely comes from the company.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
You don't do you.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Feel like you see a bunch of a difference when
you get paid or now?
Speaker 10 (29:44):
Yeah, of course, okay, okay, but they make more money as.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Well, exactly.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
All right, Thanks for the call, and get out there
and vote.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
Kids.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
So there's a no vote.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
That's interesting, there's a no vote.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Yeah, so we need yes this.
Speaker 11 (29:56):
So we're coming up on topic time seven forty, So
give us a call six one seven nine eight or
hit the talkback mic on the iHeartRadio app. You're streaming
us at Kiss one o eight tap the red microphone.
Topic time is next. Question three.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
What are you thinking?
Speaker 4 (30:11):
What is the topic today?
Speaker 10 (30:13):
We're going to be talking.
Speaker 8 (30:15):
Billy and Lisa present Topic Time.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Talk amongst yourself. Topic Time well, obviously the election is
the big story, but part of the election are the
ballot questions. We've got five of them in Massachusetts. We've
done some talking about question five. We'll talk more than
nine o'clock hour, but right now the topic time is
about question three, and we're still kind of in the
dark about a lot of Question three.
Speaker 9 (30:36):
Right let absolutely it involves whether ride share drivers.
Speaker 8 (30:41):
Should unionize, and we want to hear both sides.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Yeah, And we have a lot of Uber and or
Lyft drivers that listen to this show every morning, and
we have a lot of people that listen every morning
who take Uber or Lyft every day, several times a day,
some of them. So let's go to the phones and Kelly,
we're going to start from you with you. I guess
you're calling from Boston. Kelly. Oh hello, Oh hi Kelly.
Are you a driver?
Speaker 15 (31:07):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (31:07):
I am, okay, So what do you think?
Speaker 15 (31:10):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (31:10):
And thank you. I want to thank you all because
I listen to you while I'm driving for Uber, So
thank you for making my day every day. I really
appreciate it. I just wanted to tell everybody to vote
yes on question three, because, like the previous caller was saying,
Uber drivers just don't get paid enough. We work really
long hours. Some of us are supporting families, and it
(31:35):
will just help us have more options for more benefits
and to get paid more. And I just also want
to say, like if everyone could tip their Uber driver
because everything helps, and you'd be surprised about how many
people don't tip, So thank you.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Yeah, it's usually the first thing we do when we
get out of a new bro say, oh, let's send
the chip before we forget.
Speaker 11 (31:56):
So I have a question for Kelly. So, Kelly, if
it passes and you you are allowed to unionize, you
will make less money. Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 12 (32:04):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (32:04):
No, I mean honestly, I've never been part of a union,
and I just think the way they're laying it out
is that we would get paid more. And so I
think it's only going to help because we're not getting
paid enough now, and there's a lot of unknowns with Uber,
like how they make their rates. What you paid obvious
(32:25):
is obviously isn't what we get paid. So there's a
lot of unknowns, even for a drivers. So it can
only help so that everything comes to the circus and
we probably would know more.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
So you want to be So you want to be unionized? Yeah, yes, yes,
if you don't mind my asking. Do you have somebody
in the car right now?
Speaker 5 (32:44):
No?
Speaker 12 (32:44):
No, no, I pulled over.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yes, good job. Let's go to Gail. Gail's calling in
from Norwood. We were in Norwood yesterday. Hey, good morning, Gail,
Thanks for calling. What do you think about question three?
Speaker 6 (33:00):
Good morning?
Speaker 12 (33:01):
I did not know you were in my town.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Yep, you'll find out very soon why we were there.
Speaker 12 (33:09):
Okay, I'm voting no, and I think I'm a lyft driver.
I don't drive for Uber at all, and I think
Lift and Uber a little bit different. Lift recently settled
with the state of Massachusetts, and there's been a lot
of things that have come through due to that settlement.
We earn now sick time. It's not much at all,
(33:33):
I mean at all. It's like an hour for every
thirty hours that you drive or something like that.
Speaker 10 (33:38):
I can't even remember.
Speaker 12 (33:41):
But they bring us up to fair wage, so if
I haven't made a certain amount by the end of
two weeks, they will credit me with the difference.
Speaker 15 (33:54):
Oh, okay, and Uber does not have that.
Speaker 12 (33:56):
Also, Lift drivers know exactly what they're getting paid. A
bottom line for a ride before.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
They even accept it.
Speaker 12 (34:05):
So it shows a general area where you're picking up
and dropping off, and you can figure out the mileage
yourself to figure out if the pay is worth the drive.
So there are some benefits in that, but I think
that unionizing is just going to take more money out
of the driver's pockets that we don't make to begin with, though,
(34:28):
do you.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Think of it? Do you think of it unionized? Our
prices will go up as uber riders.
Speaker 6 (34:36):
Very well, they may very well.
Speaker 12 (34:39):
I don't know that for sure, because it seems to
be more effective to the drivers than it does to
lift or uber.
Speaker 6 (34:48):
This striking.
Speaker 8 (34:49):
She's a voting no.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Yeah, but it's interesting.
Speaker 11 (34:52):
The caller before was yes and she said they would
make more money if they unionized. She's a no and
says they'll make less.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
I think this is one of those valid questions where
there's a lot of fine print, and maybe a lot
of people aren't reading all of the fine print. But
I get a sense this is going to be kind
of a close vote, I think. So one question three,
let's go to Troy. He's calling in from NASHAUA hate Troy.
What do you think?
Speaker 12 (35:16):
Good morning everyone, So for me, so I've been in
the union for eight years.
Speaker 10 (35:21):
I don't think the List and Uber drivers realize that.
You know, they're probably going to make more money and
they're going to get better benefits, but they don't realize
they're going to have to pay union dues. They're paying
the health and welfare care. There's a lot of money
that comes out of your pay to be in a union,
and the prices are going to go up for people
(35:43):
that are using it, and then eventually they're going to
find cheaper ways to get around.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (35:48):
I don't think they that they realize how much it
actually costs to be in a union.
Speaker 15 (35:54):
About getting a good.
Speaker 10 (35:55):
Car track, I mean, there's a lot that goes into
it that they don't know about.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
That's actually really good.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
And there are a lot of pluses to being independent.
Speaker 8 (36:04):
Yeah, which is what the college said.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yeah, all right, good one, Troy, thanks for calling in
from over the borders in New Hampshire. Let's go to
John from Low Good morning, John. Are you a driver?
Speaker 6 (36:13):
John Billy? I'm the guy who drove you for your
big adventure to ap.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
Oh my god, John, John Uber driver.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
I knew I was gonna hear from John the Ubert.
I gotta tell you, John, I want to get your card, okay,
because I just want to use you every time. You
are awesome. So, John, I'm curious, what are you thinking
on question three.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
I'm a former union ie worker, retired and like your
previous college Troy said, there's there's frozen calls to it,
and I think the drivers don't understand that there's going
to be a big chunk of money taken out all
the time. I mean, unions are great for certain industries,
this is not one of them. Good you guys, cestamers
(36:52):
are going to be paying way more and the drivers
and they're not gonna be making less. I mean, because
they are going to get benefits, but they complain about
not making money as it is, they're going to be again,
they're going to get benefits, but at the end of
the day that that bottom line is going to be
a little bit smaller than it usually is, which again,
it's good and it's bad. But I'm voting knowing myself
(37:16):
because again, if you're good, there's a hospitality business, all right,
and if you're not a people person, you shouldn't be
doing it, you know. So, And I feel that I
make good money on an alley basis. I find that
the drivers that don't make the good money usually the
ones that you know, they're not doing with this. They're
(37:37):
not helping people with their luggage, they're not doing this,
they're not doing that. They're all the first ones to
complain about, you know, the people, the customers and everything else.
And I just think, you know, at the end of
the day, myself, like the first call, said, uh, it's
more independent, and the more people you have involved, the
less money you're going to make, the more the customers are.
Speaker 15 (37:59):
Going to be.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
So John, So, John, as a former union guy and
a driver, you're a no.
Speaker 10 (38:05):
Vote, no no woo.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
All right, all right, that's your godege.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
I got to say, I'm being swayed here.
Speaker 8 (38:11):
You have so many no votes, so many.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
I didn't see this coming either.
Speaker 6 (38:16):
Wow.
Speaker 11 (38:16):
See, this is why the discussion is so important. I
didn't really understand it, but I was like, yeah, they
should unionize.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
But now I'm hearing from all these people, these uber.
Speaker 8 (38:24):
Drivers, and I'm saying that there's an expense to it.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
And another reminder, as you're heading into the polls today,
make sure you do the reading, you do the research
before you vote. Let's go to Lorraine from Boston. LORRAINA
you are driver.
Speaker 15 (38:39):
Yes, I'm a driver in Boston.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
All right, Lorraine, what do you think question three? Yes
or no?
Speaker 15 (38:45):
You say yes For me, I think we should definitely
unionize as drivers. This is because I'll give you a scenario.
I picked up somebody from Logan Airports and I was
driving them. This is at seven o eight in the morning.
I'm driving them to Unstable, which is Cape card And
so as I'm driving, we're talking and he says, yore
about charge me one hundred and eighty dollars for this trip?
(39:08):
When did it get so expensive? And guess how much
I got? I got forty six dollars at seven am.
That trip took me three hours to go from Logan
Airport all the way to Punstable, close to Cape Cord.
So next I'm looking through the Uber breakdown. They never
say it tell you anything. One day it's twelve dollars
fifty cents, twelve percent they took. The following day it's
(39:29):
twenty one percent. So it's like there's no consistency, there's
no transparency, and we don't have a say. We're not organized,
so they can do whatever they want because you cannot
tell a driver, hey, go offline between this time and
that time. There's no organization where our voice could be heard.
And I think that's the only thing that's positive that
could come out of here. And I understand the people
that say that we are already not getting any money,
(39:51):
but that money that if we talk about this and
have some governmental or perations involved, then maybe we can
have a power to negotiate on how much we should
be paid. And we're getting reimbursed for our tires, for
the com maintainments, for the for the gas. So also
(40:13):
there's no telling we are always in the wrong the cast.
One of the customers threw a coffee at me and
I couldn't do nothing because Uber just still took their side,
and I'm like, I didn't do anything, literally, So then
I know, can you go back and review because I
record all my things. Uber said, we can't do that,
and that was it. Guard from the day. Another one
hits me with a phone in my eye. Oh my god,
(40:34):
Uber did nothing.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
Okay, So Lorraine, you're a yes star on question three.
Speaker 15 (40:40):
One hundred percent years.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
Okay, thank you for the call.
Speaker 11 (40:43):
You can add a sense of protection, you know, because
