The Mariners won in a big way yesterday and Ian took great interest in the ebbs and flows of the game. It was a bummer to see Taylor Saucedo with an injured knee, as he proves to be of great value in the bullpen. Welcome back to reality, Oakland. We relive the Trailblazers knocking out the Thunder in 2019. Ian wants to know, especially with the NBA returning, whether fans still harbor disdain for Oklahoma City. Ian gets sports stress from watching them and just cannot stand the idea of them winning, of which they have a good chance this year. Ian has a Mayor of Maple Valley update! We are awaiting an update on Taylor Saucedo. Ian has disdain for the Thunder. Will the WNBA continue to grow in popularity with the addition of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, or is it a 'one hit wonder'? Ian is going to be on air forever, as his off-button is broken. Odds are out for the Super Bowl and the Seahawks come in third to win the NFC West, while San Francisco is the favorite to win the Super Bowl. The Seahawks are 22nd to win it all. What are our reasonable expectations for this year's team? Ryan Clark, ESPN NHL Writer joins to give us the latest on what he sees in the Kraken coaching search, what he's seen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and who he expects to see in the finals. Jake Dickert, WSU HC joins Ian to recap spring ball and discuss the retention the Cougs saw on their team this year, especially compared to other programs that got poached. He talks about what makes Washington State special and why he's so proud to be in Pullman. Plus, the players that got drafted and signed in the NFL this year.

entire team at R and R FoundationSpecialist. Welcome to our team.
We're happy to have the studio sponsored. We feel safer in here right now
because a foundation specialist are in.Our Foundation specialists have made sure that this
studio, and this rickety old buildingis ready to rock and roll, and
we are safe and ready to go. Next thing, We'll make sure they
take a look at the production roomin there where Jessamine is or Anders sometimes

(02:14):
is. Make sure that's safe aswell, thanks to aren't our foundation specialists?
No cracks at the wall? Ohit's Pristina here. Now, I
can only do something about this bloodymicrophone that I just despise with a passion.
I don't know that that's in there, Purvey, I'm looking through here.
I may end up doing what Iused to do when we were at
COVID, and that is I think, Yeah, I think I'm going to

(02:36):
bring in my own headset and justget rid of this microphone. This is
just a pain in the ass.God, this thing sucks. First world
problems. I know. I'm sorry. Why am I starting there today?
That though it's kind of cool thatyou have that equipment that would work in
the studio, Well, it's justa headset like a sportscaster headset. Because
we had to use that for acouple of years, because you know,
because God forbid that somebody would havebeen in a studio, we had to

(02:57):
have a three or four hour timeframe between when we were in the same
studio, so you know, yeah, a little thing called COVID. We
were making sure we were safe. And you know what, thank you,
iHeart because we're all safe. Well, yeah, I wasn't here that time,
but no, Softy and I aresafe. Kevin was safe at the
time, Puck was safe at thetime. The Morning show wasn't here,

(03:21):
so they were really safe. Yes, we're all safe. But this microphone.
I wish I could fix it.You can't. I'm sorry. My
expertise is the screens. You can't. You can't fix it. You can't
fix it. Mariner's winners last night, Hey, what a game? Like
There are games where you sit thereand go, okay, yeah, watching

(03:43):
a baseball game. You're kind ofhalf asleep. You're just kind of going
through it and one of one sixtytwo. You can't get too high or
too low and all those things. That was just a damn entertaining baseball game
last night, Like just the ebbsand the flows and the EPs and downs.
It was really middle that's scoreless middlewhere you're like, who's going to
do it? Well? When itwas four to two, you mean,
yeah, yeah, it's funny becauseI was sitting there and and by we

(04:04):
run down the show real quick.Today, we got we'll talk with M's
here. I got a little littleNBA topic for you at twelve thirty.
I got a w NBA thing Iwant to throw at you. I'm going
to use Jess's term earlier. Onehit wonder, I'll say two. I'll
explain for that what that means.NFL odds. I saw some odds today.
I'll get to that a little bitlater too. And so all that

(04:29):
coming up on today's show. Bythe way, one week from today is
when the NFL schedule is going tocome out. Greg mentioned this earlier.
The story came out today. TheAthletic and some other places had it that
it was supposed to be well.I don't even know if it was supposed
to be tomorrow. The thought wasit was supposed to be well. The
thought was May ninth, which wouldbe tomorrow, would be the day they're
going to release the NFL schedule.I know a lot of media outlets have

(04:54):
been planning for that. We hadbeen planning for that. Westwood One does
a whole schedule show. Purple sheetstell me today, Yeah, they just
like on Mondays like, yeah,I guess they may not be having it
Thursday, like God, the NFL, your self importance is justified because you
are very important, like in thein the grand scheme of the sports landscape,
the NFL is the most important thingperiod into story. But Jack and

(05:16):
people around all the time for suchfor a schedule release, and really all
it is with the schedule release. We all know who's playing, Yeah,
we just don't know who. Youknow when your your home games are,
when your road games are, andbut you know your home and away opponents.
I hate it for this reason. We well, hopefully who knows budgets,

(05:38):
but I think we still travel atFox thirteen. I like to have
my schedule figured out and planned outa little bit. But more importantly for
fans, like I'm not sure ifthere is a league that gives less of
a damn about its fans in theNFL. They don't have to, they
don't. And I know people complainabout college football start times all the time.
I get that, I know youlive it every week. I get

(06:00):
that you know, are we playingat twelve thirty three, thirty seven,
seven thirty, Oh we're gonna Butwhen the college football schedule comes out and
sometime in the next couple of weeks, my buddy Canzano telling me that it
just sent me a text the otherday it says, yeah, they're gonna
you know, the WB deal's adone deal or CW deal. I'm sorry,
CW is a done deal with withOregon Oregon State. They got a
bunch of Fox games as well.It kind of sickens me, and I've

(06:24):
worked for Fox, so I gottabe careful. But why you're gonna sleep
and go into bed with them? They're the ones that screwed you. But
that's fine. You need the exposureand a little bit of money. Well,
the college football schedule comes out,we'll know. We'll know if Wazoo
because we already kind of have theschedule, but well, when the TV
part of it comes out, we'llknow if they're going to move a game
to a Friday. They probably won't. Big Ten's gonna have a lot of

(06:46):
Friday games, but at least youknow it's gonna be on Saturday. Like,
you know it's gonna be Saturday.Maybe it's at three or seven,
what have you. The NFL theygive you the schedule. Finally, fans
will plan, they'll travel. Weevery week. I see it. See
Hawk fans travel in a massive amount. It's great. It's really fun.
Unless you're my photographer, Shrammick. He hates them, doesn't like the twelves,

(07:08):
but I do. I like thetwelves. They travel and they're loud.
I love it when they take overa stadium. Yeah, I just
don't like it. It's a sevenam flight and they're chanting to see Hawks
in the airplane at seven am.But yeah, Hawks. But our fans
want to travel. Like there's peoplethat like, Okay, I'm gonna take
one trip this year. I'm notgonna go on vacation to Hawaii. I'm

(07:29):
gonna go see a game in Atlantaor wherever. Like, let them plant
it out, man. And thenthe worst thing that the NFL does,
and then all the flex schedule,Yeah, we're gonna actually move that Sunday
game to a Monday or you know, a Sunday afternoon to a Sunday night.
And they started messing you around andthey just stop screaming people anyway,
So a week from today is theschedule release for the NFL. I'm sure
it's probably four or five o'clock. So fantas soft. You'll have it for

(07:51):
you. So that's next week.Okay, it was supposed to be tomorrow
originally. Now it's next next, next Wednesday. All week from Wednesday coming
up today. Jake Dickert's going tojoin us at two o'clock. So I
did for that post U spring practicefor Wazoo a lot to get into it
with him. I'm just curious themotivation. I mean, there's there's motivation
if you're an athlete and a coachto win every week. But when you

(08:11):
can't really compete for a conference championship, you're basically competing more than likely just
for a secondary bowl. Like, how hard is it? How challenging is
it? And what are his challengesright now? It didn't appear. Wilmer
wrote something that The Times published todayabout the winners and losers in the portal.
I didn't see a lot of lossesfor Wazoo in the portal. I

(08:31):
don't know, Jess, you wereover there. I didn't feel like we
got hammered by the portal. Now, we did basketball. In basketball,
we did sure one hundred percent basketball. I didn't feel like I felt like
football was a wash. But we'llask Jake about that at two o'clock one
Hourbudy Ryan s Clark will join us. Ryan C. Clark, Ryan s
Clark. Which Clark is it?He's the s He's Ryan s Clark.

(08:52):
All I know is either our hockeyguy for ESPN. He's going to join
us at one forty five. Thestuff came out yesterday with the that a
draft lottery cracking didn't By the way, he'll see Ryan works for espaan he'll
deny it. But there's a bigfeeling around there that John Bucher Gross whatever
his name is, that he leakedout the order on Twitter. He deleted

(09:16):
it afterwards like it was predetermined.People are losing their collective. You know
what right now? Is that correct? Yes? Yes? And the San
Jose gets the number one overall pickMaclin Celebrini, who is the unquestioned number
one pick, like perhaps game changingtype franchise player. He played junior hockey
or minor hockey in Dot dot DotSan Jose. San Jose needs a boost.

(09:41):
They get the number one pick andget him. Well, we'll get
to that more than anything with Ryanthough, but he's here on the coaching
search for the Kraken and and alot more as well, So we'll get
to that coming up a little alittle bit later on back to the MS
in a second. I'm going totouch in on a little an NBA question
I have for everybody. We'll getto it at well thirty today. The

(10:01):
NBA seems imminent, it's coming back. Well, we've talked about that all
rot a lot this week already. It's gonna happen. It will happen.
We know what's going to happen. There's just this little black cloud hanging over
my head this time of year alltoo often. And I'll see if it's
hanging over your head as well, whether or not it is or it isn't,
we'll see. We'll do that comingup at twelve thirty today and ask
your feedback on that. I mentioneda little WNBA topic I'm gonna throw at

(10:22):
you as well. In the oneo'clock hour we'll squeeze in the NFL.
It's probably one thirty today. Notvery kind to our local NFL team here,
all right, So yesterday Manners geta win Jess told you about in
the headlines a second ago. CalRaleigh, how about this? And good
on you, Dave Simms who calledit sort of. I was listening.
I was in the car because Iwas running around a little bit. And

(10:43):
you know, I love when announcersdo this because it ends up making you
sound really, really smart and likebreaking jinxes and things like that. All
Reley's never hit a pinch and itnever had a grand Slam home run.
Oh so I've got and belted thereyou go home run and got it and
it was awesome and just an absoluteshot, just a hammer from the right
side. He continues to just bea terror, at least in terms of

(11:05):
the long ball, even I it'snot hitting for average, but that was
a big play, even if theTwins came back. But I was at
Dino's yesterday, shout out to myguys, so with my buddy Mike Gustison
and my buddy Derek and Gus.Thinking of you, brother, and Gus
is always has been a huge supporterof the Mayor Maple Valley Open, the

(11:26):
golf tournament. So we're doing golftournament business yesterday and Gus, I'm thinking
of you and I appreciate you morethan words can say. And my man
Derek from Ranchwater was there as well, and we were just having a conversation
about what's coming up with the golftournament and some of the support they're giving
me, and I can't thank thoseguys enough. But we're sitting at Dino's
and we look over to nothing nice, beautiful, you know, and you

(11:46):
have a conversations. You're not watchingeverything casual, yes, passively watching,
and we got involved in another conversationand it couldn't have been that long because
all of a sudden we glanced overlike four two. Huh, what happened?
Yeah, so I'll tell you Ididn't see what happened. Don't even
care because that was even that waslike one eighth of the game, like
in terms of the game story yesterday. And then after you know, down

(12:09):
four two cal hits the two strikeO two pitch. Why you come right
down middle, middle and Broadway withthat to this dude and he yoakes it
out of there. Minnesota comes backties at six to six. They do
so on a strange play that couldbe an altering play for the trajectory of

(12:31):
the season for Seattle. Even thoughthey won the game, they lost a
lot more yesterday. Taylor Sascito hasbeen just sensational. Sauce has been great,
left hander out of the bullpen. You know, a year ago he
was he wasn't even a setup guy. A year ago in the bullpen,
he was like, Okay, insteadof pitching Josh Rojas, he's going to
get those innings when the game's outof hand one way or the other.

(12:54):
Wasn't doing a lot of high leveragesituations at all. That didn't happen until
mid or actually later in the yearlast year, and Scott Servis started to
trust him more and more and more. And then he comes out of spring
this year he's pitching great. He'sbecome a big part of It's already had
at least one save that I canremember. But a guy that on the
left side is able to come inin higher leverage situations. And you've had

(13:18):
in a while a good setup guy. And on a play that if they
had even some semblance of athleticism atfirst base, maybe this pitcher doesn't have
to remember left handed pitcher falling offtowards third base having to turn around and
sprint to first base on a ballthat's a little bit wide to the first
baseman. My god, I mean, as textan Chris and Nate last night,

(13:39):
is is it fair? To criticizety Franz for being the most unathletic
player in the history of baseball.Yeah, cecil Fielder makes that play,
but saus has to come sprinting overfull speed, gets the bag, doesn't
get the out tying run, getsto third, he hurts his knee.
Didn't look good at all, andthe runner at goes home said later,

(14:01):
I felt bad about it, butthe play was still alive. He had
to You can't blame him for that, and that wasn't dirty, not like
if here's a thing. If hedoesn't, I'm like, dude, like
what are you doing? Okay,Like the game is still going on,
but he's gonna go on the injuredlist. I haven't seen roster moves yet.
I'm sure it's coming in the nextfew minutes or so. Yeah,
I'll keep you updated because three game'sgonna happen. They have an early afternoon

(14:24):
game here today, so we'll probablyhear Scots. They play four, don't
they. Yeah, so so service. We'll speak about two and a half
hours after the game, so we'llkeep updated. But those who are in
minnesot just a bummer though. Man, I just I you know, I've
talked about before. He's at ahome. A kid grew up around the
block from us, like like fourhouses down. Not that I knew him

(14:45):
well or anything, but you know, we've lived there for a long time
and he was in the neighborhood.Just I know what it means for him
to pitch for this team and tobe a Mariner. You know, he's
come in on short term contracts, had to fight his way onto the roster
to the last two years. He'sone of the good stories that this team
has going and for him to gethurt and banged up just sucks. I

(15:07):
mean, just a bummer. Andand again it hurts the baseball team because
you know, people always joke aboutit when they have kids. I'm gonna
tie my kids right hand was youknow, right arm to his waist and
make him do everything left handed becauseleft handed pitching is hard to find.
And he's been good and I hopehe's okay. God, I don't want
to see a cl I don't wantto see that kind of stuff surgery.

(15:28):
When he first went down, thefirst thing I thought of was achilles.
But it looks like I know,it looks like his knee. So we're
hoping that's just a spring. Yeah, let's just give me, you know,
I could. You can deal witha little bit of aniscus issue too,
that can get cleaned up fairly quickly. It's just I just don't I
don't want yeah, I don't wantto hear a cl so hopefully it's okay.
But nevertheless, I mean, remarkablegame because that tied the game at

(15:50):
six, and then the Ms goto the ninth inning and they just come
alive and they do everything in thatinning that they haven't done this year.
Moved runners around, they strung together, strung together runs, hit with runners
in scoring position. The aforementioned tyFranz had a big hit. I mean,
everything came together and they get awin and they still have a chance

(16:11):
to win a series for the seventhstraight time. And it didn't look that
way for a while. It lookedlike they were in trouble down four too
late, but they ended up gettingit done. Huge win and they have
to because why not again we're hereon May eighth. But the Texas Rangers,
they've now won four in a row. They just keep winning, so
you're just trying to keep pace withthem. By the way, welcome back

(16:32):
to reality, Oakland, they've lostthree in a row. Not that I
want to dance on the Oakland A'sgrave at all, but at seventeen and
twenty, they're starting to show thatthey're the Oakland A's. And when you
have a minus thirty two run differentialas they do, the factor you're only
three games under five hundred is prettyremarkable. But it is a two team
race in the American League, WestTexas and Seattle, and they're just going
toe to toe right now. Backand forth these guys go. So that

(16:56):
was a big win last night forSeattle. Is it what expense does it
come? Hopefully not a big one, but just a fun It's just an
entertaining game to watch. Like Ias, I'm meeting with my buddies over
at Dinos and we're going through thegolf tournament stuff and I'll get to let
me make a note here, jestwelve forty five golf turney updates. I

(17:19):
had somebody texted and somebody tweeted andsome other stuff I've seen, so I'll
give you update. Still have thatdate circled on. We'll get to We'll
get to that at twelve forty fivebecause a lot of people have been asking
about sign ups and things like that. But I'm sitting with Gus and Derek
and it and like just a remarkablegame, like fun game. We were
talking about a lot of different sportsand stuff, and and it's inevitable when

(17:41):
you're watching the Mariners really to nothingblue, how they blew too nothingly,
Hancock wasn't at his best. Kirbygets to start tonight. The knee issue.
Is there even an issue there ornot? Does it seem to be
if he's making he's not skipping astart, So hopefully he's good. He's
been remarkable late. But that's justwhat that's that's where sports can be truly

(18:03):
a ton of fun when you havea game like that where the team's just
back and forth, back and forth, just tremendous game and see how comes
away with the win. So hopefullyso us as Okay, Kirby goes tonight,
go get a win. Got tokeep pace with the Rangers. They're
taking on the Oakland A's by theway, that's that's why those numbers are
kind of matching up. Four straightfor the Rangers as now have lost three
in row, including the last twoto Texas, So they play later today

(18:25):
as well, okay, here's what'scoming up. The NBA and NHL playoffs
are going on. We'll get tosome NHL stuff a little bit later on.
There's something in the NBA that Ifeel I'll use this term. It
to me is like a black cloudhanging over our heads? Or is it
maybe we've gotten past this. I'llask you guys that question. Coming up

(18:45):
next ninety three point three k FM. Now back to the Infra Neest Show,
brought to you by Snow Call meCasino to send the Thunder home.
Lillard long range street Lord, I'mtelling you, we need a statue of

(19:15):
Dame Lollard in Seattle. We needa statue now. In fairness, that
was a first round playoff series intwenty nineteen in the NBA playoffs, the
Blazers knocking off the Oklahoma City Thunderin the first round. Thunder were a
good team that year. They wonforty nine games, but that was a
first round matchup. It wasn't asclose as they came to winning a title.

(19:36):
It wasn't like they were getting deepinto the playoffs and it was a
four to one series win. Butyou know what, just for good measure,
Damian Lillard hits the three from likebasically you know from Vancouver, Washington,
just knocks it down waves, goodbye, thunder or done, thanks for
coming. They lost in the firstround next year as well. Haven't been
back to the playoffs until this season, missed him three straight years back this

(20:00):
year. I'm gonna bring something upwith you guys right now. First of
all, Dan, thank you Godfrom the bottom of our hearts. When
that. There's a lot of talkthis week, and it's kind of becoming
more and more if you when youlisten to this show, We've we've done
it. I think a pretty decentjob of keeping the update on where we
know what's going on with the NBA. It's coming back, not not if,

(20:21):
but when patience is hard, Iget it. We're all impatient about
it. I was talking to ChrisI want to change the name of the
Sonics kid yesterday off the air,and he did take that well, he
really doesn't want to change it.I just want to throw that out there
for him. But I was talkingto me yesterday and just the fact that
you know, we've gone so long, a decade and a half without the

(20:42):
NBA here with you know, folkslike me, people like me that have
kids that never have been able tosee the local NBA team play. In
media market twelve, understand that weare a top fifteen or more specifically a
top twelve media market in terms ofsize in this country. First of all,

(21:06):
that is called a large market orbig market in the business media center.
We are big. We are notsmall, We're not medium, we
are big market. Yeah, we'renot LA, We're not New York.
We're not saying top three, butwe are a big market city. For
us not to have the NBA iscriminal. Okay, it's coming back.

(21:30):
Shout out to Oakview, like WikiHolloway at the whole group, Bonderman Etca.
It's coming back. But in themeantime, we have to suffer through
watching the NBA playoffs every year withouta horse in the race. And here's
what I want to ask you guys, because when the team left in two
thousand and eight, the thunder weretwenty three and fifty nine awful. That's

(21:56):
when PJ was coaching. He waskind of the scapegoat for two years.
Took over in two thousand and seven. In two thousand and eight, the
last year of the Sonics, theywent twenty and sixty two. Then they
went twenty three and fifty nine.He was one in twelve. Was pj
as a coach. He's a goodcoach too. That was a just garbage
what they did to him, andthey Scott Brooks took over and then he

(22:19):
inherited his team. By the waythat remember how good they got. They
had Kevin Durant. The last draftthat we had in Seattle, although they
never played here was Russell Westbrooks SergeIbaka adding that to Jeff Green and Kevin
Durant, and then the next yearJames Harden and we all know what happened.
They got to the playoffs and thenall of a sudden they got to

(22:41):
the Western Conference finals in twenty tentwenty eleven season, and then twenty twelve
they were in the NBA Finals.Thank god they lost. My question is
with this particular unit this year, and they are good, like they are
really good. They are the numberone seed in the Western Conference. They

(23:03):
had a fifty seven and twenty fiverecord this season. They've won five straight
games to start the postseason. Andunless our good friends come on Minnesota,
unless the t Wolves, aunt Ineed you, unless they can get going,
go Baar congratulations on the child.Get your ass back on the floor
like that, because Denver doesn't looklike they're ready to contend right now.

(23:29):
Oklahoma City is, pardon the pun, thundering towards the NBA Finals. Certainly
the conference finals are going to bethere. Last time they were in the
conference finals was twenty sixteen. Theylost in the Western Conference Finals. That
was the last Damian Loward's hit shotin twenty nineteen. Because I think,

(23:49):
you know, they're a decent team. They were actually a little bit.
They were forty nine wins. Theywere all right. But I, as
a Sonic fan, have always hadthis great fear and this weird perverse stress.
And I jess, you've been aroundme for a year and a half
now, I don't sports don't stressme out too often. Kook football,

(24:10):
Yeah, you've been around the block. Kok basketball. Yeah, that stresses
me out a little bit, butI can kind of flesh it fairly quickly.
This has caused me sports stress.I don't give a blank if they
win a title after we get ourteam back and there is a Seattle SuperSonics
here, I just don't want togo to any NBA history page, Pro

(24:32):
Basketball Reference, any of that andsee NBA titles more than one. In
other words, two or three. There's one on their on their Basketball reference
page, playoff appearances, thirty threechampionships, UNO one to Ozho. I
can't stomach. I can't fathom,I can't handle. I don't want to

(24:56):
see two on there. I can'tsee two on there because the Oklahoma City
Thunder have never won an NBA title. But the way it works until we
get our team back and kind ofreclaim the history forty one years of history.
Screw you, Frank Chop and therest of the clowns. Greg Nichols,
you fat ass the whole nine yards. And I can say that pot

(25:18):
calling kettle, but listen, Ijust I don't want to see it too
there. I can't see it toothere. But am I I know because
I remember doing shows when when thegreat Thunder team so to speak, in
twenty eleven twenty twelve, and reallythose two back to back teams twenty ten,

(25:41):
twenty eleven, twenty eleven, twentytwelve, even the twenty twelve twenty
thirteen team and the twenty thirteen twentyfourteen team, I mean those teams are
humming fifty five forty seven sixty andfifty nine wins. I remember doing shows
and we were like actively rooting againstthese guys to the point of, like,
oh god, like every game, like every game meant something. The

(26:03):
NBA Finals in twenty twelve, inJune of twenty twelve, Thank goodness for
the super team that was the MiamiHeat. I mean, not one,
not two, not three, notfull. You know what. You guys
were all tools for doing that.Michael would have never done That's a good
point. Larry never did that.Ye, Magic never did that. You

(26:27):
guys did it. But we neededyou that year. So thank you,
Miami Heat. Thank you for that. Lebron and company. This is a
lesser of two evils for you. Then it was very much a lesser of
two evils. And I'm not aLebron hater. I just didn't like that.
I didn't like him screwing over Clevelandand just that's where he grew up
ruiting a team. Yeah, justlike ex sapt like this is where old

(26:51):
man yells at clouds again. Again, Magic wouldn't do that, Larry wouldn't
do that, Michael wouldn't do that. You did. That's fine, but
we needed you that year. Thankgod. Because that's the only team that
could have beat those guys. Buthere's my question four nine, four to
five one. Tell them what wetext line? What's game time? Tell
me time. Also, if youwant to fire away a thought question comments,

(27:12):
love to hear your voice. Wehad we had a ton yesterday.
Actually someone we couldn't even play becauseyou guys understand this. Don't make jazz
put beeps and try to edit inthere. Just give us a voice text
to talk back. That's just thirtyseconds of whatever emotion you're feeling. Just
keep it PG. Thirteen for us. Make it easy on us. Are
you at all worried? Do youeven care anymore? Are the Oklahoma ce

(27:36):
is that thing gone and passed foryou? Or are you like, oh
man, I cannot stomach watching thatteam, that owner, that fan base
thieves felons, that they are stealingour franchise win a possible NBA title.
I know I haven't worried about itbecause they haven't been in the playoffs for

(27:57):
the last few years, and reallyever since Dame hit that shot, it's
been like I think they're I thinkthey're done, Like they're never gonna be
good again. Free agents aren't gonnago there. They're not gonna be able
to attract guys or even keep players. But they've drafted so well Sam prest
He's a genius as a GM.He's fantastic. They they have got it

(28:19):
going on, and they've got mea little stressed out. And I can't
handle this and I cannot. Icannot stomach. I could not stomach.
Jess, here's how I turned intoa Celtics fan. I was just gonna
say that. I'm gonna tell youright now, I'm gonna pull I'm pulling
a softy. If they get tothe NBA Finals, the Thunder and if

(28:40):
it's against your team, your favoriteteam in the world, if if they
get there against the Boston Celtics,I'm ordering myself a Celtics T shirt and
I'm gonna wear that every damn day. I am loving every part of this.
Maybe Mike has one, you canbar. I know. Here's the
thing you gonna don't. We don'twant to get to that point. We
want we want Minnesota to knock himout because I ain't gonna have a doubt,

(29:02):
so we need them to knock himout. But what are your thoughts
on that? Sonic fans are thethunder even because it was a big,
big deal. I know on thisradio station for those first few years when
they when Brooks godam Hummon and theywere winning and they had that group of
God they it was stressful here.We were not liking what we were seeing
at all. So get your thoughtson that fourtine four five one. Tell

(29:25):
them the text one. Also thetalk backline as well. Fire away where
you go. Okay, we'll comeback. I mentioned this earlier. I
get texts and messages and stuff allthe time. I'll look on the text
line A four one four to fiveone. I see people asking it's pinned
on my ex Twitter profile, thedate and all the stuff. But I'll
give you a little more specific informationon the mayor of Maple Valley Open which

(29:48):
is coming up in June, signup information, all that fun stuff.
We'll give you a little more information. We'll do that when we come back
on ninety three point three KTERFM.Now back to the Infant Show, brought
to you by Snow. Call meCasino speaking contesting on Friday, we will
give away Mother's Day baseball tickets forthe game on Sunday against the A's.

(30:12):
But that's Mother's Day, and I'mgoing to do my damnedest. We'll lean
on Jess to do her damnedest tomake sure we get that to someone who
can take mom. Yeah. Plantthe seed now, make sure you can
go. Yeah, and here's theother tip. That's a pro tip,
pro tip on contesting. Okay, listen carefully when you send Jesson in your

(30:34):
email address. Make sure it's correct. We've had a few oopsie's, which
I have corrected. Okay, wetake care of that guy, Yes,
we did. Okay, and actuallyit's a little bit of a better situation
this time around because now he cantake his wife and his other daughter.
Okay, so whole family gets togo to this game. Okay. But

(30:55):
yeah, when you text in emailaddresses, let's don't forget a letter or
for you, if you've got likea an L, put it in a
cap because sometimes it looks like anI. There you go. You no
spell it in all caps? Thankyou for reading. Yes, we'll get
so we'll give away tickets for Sunday'sgame. We'll do that on Friday on
the radio show. I want toI just want to get mom out there.

(31:18):
Will probably mind even do Saturday tickets. We'll kind of we'll wait and
see how that shakes out of therest of the week. Okay, I
want to get to this before weget to the one o'clock hour, and
as we sit here in the noonhour. Thank you very much for listening.

thing called the Mary Maple Valley Open. They always have a nice little thing
that we have a raffle prize withMayor. Maple Valley Open is coming up
on Friday, June twenty eighth.Listen up. If you're a golfer,
if you're one of those folks askingme and asking me and wondering about the

(32:01):
details of the golf tournament, here'swhat I can tell you. Friday,
June twenty eighth, Druid's Glenn GolfCourse. We will be there four thirty
shotgun start. Rules are simple, they haven't changed. This is one thing
and we believe this is actually ourtwelfth golf tournament. I believe I need

(32:22):
to double check that. I canhonestly tell you the first few years I
wasn't and to this day not themost organized. But now I've got a
great group of people that helped me, my wife and others in our neighborhood.
Shout out to you, Heather andAngie, Tricia whom I've forgetting Stephanie.
I'm missing some people, but shoutout to my group, my people

(32:42):
that help out so much. ButWhitney, there you go. I almost
forgot Whitney. She does more allof them everybody. But anyway, I
shout out to all you guys comingup on Friday, June twenty eighth.
We believe it's a twelfth time ofthe golf. We missed the one year
obviously with COVID. We also misseda year Drew as we played over at
Lakeland Village. Big thanks to themfor hosting us the year when the world

(33:04):
was still kind of shut down alittle bit. We raise money for three
great causes Helensky's Hope, and thisis Mental Health Awareness Month, by the
way, Helensky's Hope. Every strongDIPG shout out to Brandon and Amanda and
their son Kate, who just finishedhis baseball career as cool seeing him just
from being a young young guy whenwe first started this now going and graduating
high school, great stud baseball playerfor Auburn Riverside. And the Jordan Morris

(33:30):
Foundation, which provides a ton ofsupport for families in our area and young
people who have type one diabetes, especially when they first are diagnosed with type
one diabetes. And Jordan Morris,of course, the Sounder is a great
dude and they do just incredible work. So our tournament supports those three.
And it's those three foundations that allcan use every one of the dollars we

(33:52):
give them. There's a lot ofworthy charities and foundations out there. All
three of these I have a specialshe'll personal tie to. And I also
know that every dollar from everything thatyou guys, when you play in the
tournament donate, every dollar means somethingto these three and these three foundations,
and so it's it's the good thatwe do is unbelievable. Everyone's asking when's

(34:16):
registration coming, When can I signup? And all of that registration will
be either end of May, firstof June, somewhere in there, last
week in May, first week inJune. Just working out the details with
my buddy Luke and the golf courseright now. So we were gonna we're
going here's what we're gonna do.One of these days at the end of

(34:37):
the month or early June, We'regonna pop up and we're gonna be doing
a show on location, not aDruids. I got a special place which
will tell you about that particular daythat is stepped up big time this season
to support the golf tournament, specificallythe Mulligan package, and we're gonna be
You're gonna tune on it, turnit on it. I don't know is

(34:57):
he going to have a show fromten to one by then? You know
what. Let's just let's just sayyou're going to tune in at noon sometime
at the end of the month orearly early June, and you go,
hey, for ness, is wherewhy is he there? And I'll tell
you because that's our day. We'llannounce that day that we're signing things up,
starting the sign ups for the registrationfor me and maryple Valley open.
I do this for this reason. We get sell We sell it out.

(35:20):
Every year we get inundated with peoplethat want to play. I wish I
could have it, you know,be bigger or two, you know,
two flights of people. It's justnot possible. It's just it's it's hard
enough just to get the nine holetwo man scramble in. But when you
do sign up, remember this, please remember this. You'll sign up as
a two person team. You'll payfor both of you at the time.

(35:43):
So get your partner to Venmo year. Whatever you want to do this year,
it's going to cost ninety three dollarsper person. Oh ninety three Why
does that sound weird? Oh yeah, ninety three point three KJRFM ninety three
dollars per person incuse golf cart, range balls and dinner afterwards. And again
all the proceeds go to benefit thesethree great foundations. But we will do
it towards the end of the monthor early June, just working on a

(36:05):
specific date where I can have thegolf course ready to have the sign ups
ready to go, and then wecan also be on location to do a
show that particular day, So standstand by. I'll give you a little
more of a heads up towards theend of the month. But sometime in
the next few weeks we'll have signup start and registration will begin for the
Mayor and Maple Value open again Friday, June twenty eighth, four point thirty
shotgun two man scramble, So youhave to sign up as a two man

(36:29):
team. We're not gonna let youdo this is This happens every year.
I don't have a partner, orI need a partner, or my partner
bailed on me. That's not myproblem. That's a you problem, not
an eend problem, a U problem. That's a you problem. So not
an e in problem. And itwon't be a golf course problem. It
won't be adjustment problem. It won'tbe a missus fornest problem. It will
be a U problem. So youfind someone you can count on. Commitment

(36:52):
is big. Talking to you guysI play golf with every Wednesday. We've
got commitment issues with our foursome everyWednesday. I'm asking for commitment issues from
you guys as well. All right, simple as that. All right,
So coming up later in the month. I just I want to get that
out there. I'll mention this afew more times other time slots as well.
But I have a lot of peoplereaching out and asking. We have
some great, great, great peoplethat step up and help us with this

(37:15):
tournament every year. Mamady Bags andcompany at Callaway, and guys at Ranchwater,
Derek and those guys ranch Water andso and so forth, and some
familiar people coming back Chambers, Bata, Stillery and others. So yeah,
I can't wait. Tons of funcoming up June twenty eight, Friday,
June twenty eighth. Registration coming laterthis month. Okay, good, so
you break come back. I wantto we'll reset the day Mariners our NBA

(37:37):

also get into some odds for theNFL this season that I'm not too thrilled
with. We'll get to all thatcoming up. Nine three point three KFM

I'll kind of reset the day foryou here one o'clock out. I alway
kind of feel like one o'clock we'restarting all over again, because we've done
one o'clock to three o'clock for yearsand years, and so it's it's like

(40:38):
a new world that we live inthese days. So just to reset the
world that we live in right now. Mariners, as as Jess mentioned,
taking on the Twins again tonight, the third game of the series after last
night's thriller, they came back towin and put up a big, big
Crookeet number four run ninth inning andto get that victory last night after on

(41:00):
behind four to two, cal Rawleywith a grand slam earlier in the game
and the seventh inning O two pinchhitgrand slam to bring them back on top
before giving up the lead, waitingto hear haven't seen anything, right,
Jess on Taylor Sacito, Right,we haven't seen anything yet on him then
yet, but yeah, we'll keepour eyes on the Twitter feeds of those
are Ryan Divish's who are out therein Minnesota as well as here from Scott's

(41:22):
service, who will hopefully have anupdate when he speaks to the media to
twenty five today. Me let me, uh, they haven't mad any of
the roster moves, right, wehaven't seen a roster moves, not yet.
Okay, uh, yeah, alot of concerns. I'm actually going
to text to step Dad and askhim, Hang on a second, how
is Taylor? You might break alittle news here, why not? Okay,

(41:45):
So we got that Kraken, asyou mentioned, we'll talk about that
kind of one forty five, ourbuddy Ryan Clark, Will Jonas from ESPN.
They get the eighth pick. Nothingchanged really, It was kind of
a kind of just a nothing burgerin terms of the the HL draft lottery.
San Jose had the best chance toget number one, and they did
indeed get number one. When itwas all said and done, Macklin celebraty

(42:07):
who may not actually play in theNHL next year. By the way,
there's a chance he goes back tocollege. He's a younger player birthdate wise,
and so there's a chance he doesn'teven come. I think if it
was a team not named San Jose, maybe he would come and play right
away. But he's a center icemanwith a massive upside. Is that San

(42:28):
Jose team is they are really bad, Like they have a really bad roster,
and maybe for him, it justdoesn't make any sense to play in
the NHL next year because they're goingto be just awful one more time.
So he may end up going backto college. He physically he's ready,
but they may just kind of holdoff on a year. Why waste a
year of his contract and all thatstuff. So we'll see talking about the

(42:50):
crack and coaching search as well. One forty five. Jake Dickert, Washington
State head football coach, will joinus, coming up at two o'clock.
Who booked that guest? Who bookedthat guest? Jake dicker Yeah you did
me? Did you think somebody elsedid a trick? Question? Yessa?
I sure did, I sure did. It's very very receptive to coming on
this show. All right, we'lltalk to Jay coming up a two o'clock
today. Okay, I want thatWe set the table for a couple things

(43:14):
earlier today. One was it attwelve thirty we talked about this and we'll
check the text and the talkbacks.A little bit later on, I mentioned
my sports stress, one of mygreat sports stresses in the world, is
whether or not the Oklahoma City Thundermight God forbid win an NBA title before
we get the NBA back in Seattle. I don't think I could stomach it.

(43:37):
I don't think a lot of you, I would think probably couldn't handle
looking. And because here's what's goingto happen. The deeper we get into
the playoffs, the more you're goingto see. Well, you know,
the last time we went to thefinals was twenty eleven, twenty twelve,
they lost the you know, theMiami Heat, and of course before that,
the last the previous time they wentto the finals was the nineteen ninety
six when Gary Payton and Sean Kempand Detla Shremp and that team and Sean

(44:05):
and the whole group and they lostto the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan.
Well, yeah, that's the lasttime the Sonics went there, not the
Thunder. But they're gonna lump thatin. You're gonna see that, and
I don't feel the same. Iused to kind of keep track of every
Thunder game, used to We usedto watch. It was like an obsession,
like, oh my gosh, I'mwatching the Thunder. I'm watching the

(44:25):
Thunder. I can't handle it.Do you guys still do that? Do
you do that at all? TheThunder even on your radar in the sense
of like, do you worry andstress about them winning a title? I
don't care if they win one?Well I would. I don't want them
to ever win a title. I'drather them never have an NBA championship in
that god forsaken city. But I'llbe able to handle it emotionally and accept

(44:51):
it a little bit more if ithappens after we get the NBA back,
So anytime post twenty six, twentyseven, whenever it's gonna come here,
I can at least handle that becausewe have our own team to worry about.
So we'll get to that. Ifyou guys want to talk about that,
four nine, four to five one, tell them what deck line.
Also, of course, the textvoice text are there. The talkback is
available before you have the iHeartRadio appand a way you go, you can

(45:13):
check that out. I'll get tosome NFL conversation at the bottom of the
hour. We'll wait and see what'sgoing on with the Mariners, Taylors,
I see it. George Kirby doesget the start tonight. He's been really
good lately, his last effectively reallyhis last one two. His last four
starts have been good. He hadthat little rough stretch you remember the Cleveland
game, gave up ten hits oneight runs and eight runs. That was

(45:36):
back on the third of April, the second start of the year. His
third start of the year against theToronto Blue Jays wasn't much better, went
four innings, gave up eight hitsand five runs. By the way,
the eight runs on the third ofApril and the five runs in the ninth
April, they will all earned.Lasting just three and two thirds in one
game and four and the other sincethen, quality starts in every outing four

(45:57):
innings, six innings. Actually,no, I'm sorry he had five innings
starts. I had no decision toColorado seven innings and six innings. Had
a seventeen straight innings without allowing anearned run during that streak, allowed just
one in his last outing before hecame out after eighty eight pitches with a
sore knee allegedly allegedly a sorknee werehearings Swordie. Oh okay, there are

(46:21):
some that think that kind of amaybe a little bit of a quick hook
by one Scott Service. So we'llsee what he can do tonight in Minnesota
against the Twins, as Mariners tryto at least knowing if they get a
win tonight they won't lose the series. A worst case scenario, they split
a four game series before they comehome to take on the Age. And
you got to keep winning because theA's are getting pounded right now by the

(46:43):
Texas Rangers, who are on aheater. They've won four straight games.
They lead Seattle Bite a half gamein the American League West. I wanted
to bring this up. We talkedto NBA earlier, and the Storm and
the WNBA at the front and centerof a lot of conversations these days.
This is not a radio show, and frankly, outside of Fane waving the

(47:07):
Flag, not a radio station thathas ever done a lot with the Seattle
Storm. And before you turn yourdial, hear me out, the WNBA
had a game the preseason. They'rein the midst of their basically what two
game preseason schedule something like that islike two games I think They had their
preseason game the other night, andit was a game between the Chicago what

(47:34):
was the Chicago Sky Is that right? Yeah, Chicago Sky and the Minnesota
Links. There was a store orthere was a post that said on the
WNBA website that you could watch thatgame through the WNBA League Pass. They
do the same thing as the NBA, NHL Major League Baseball. They have
a you know, you can watchevery game that's not in your market,
or if it is in your market, what have you can watch every game.

(47:57):
One thing that has been pointed outoften is for all the people pounding
the drum saying they need to getpaid more, they need to excel,
that's fine. Did you buy aleague pass? That's my first question always,
did you buy a league pass?If you're the one saying that did
you buy a league pass? Areyou supporting the league? But more importantly,
the people that did have it wentto that link and the game wasn't
on. Oh and that was ofcourse, that was the debut of Angel

(48:20):
Reese and Cordova from South Carolina andtheir first preseason game, and it wasn't
there. It was a mistake thatthe league made. It wasn't televised now.
In fairness, I don't the Stormgames aren't televised in the preseason,
right Fain and I saw fame Feine'sbeen here. He didn't doing the games.
Not every game is, but theystill The bigger issue was they put

(48:40):
it up there. It was supposedto be on TV and it wasn't.
And for those who wanted it,well, I don't know if you saw
the story, it's pretty incredible. So a woman at the game basically streamed
the entire game from her phone.Wow, it's a video post on her
phone. It was you'd over eighthundred thousand times. I think it was

(49:02):
over two MILLI yeah, over twomillion views of the two hour video by
Saturday morning, but eight hundred thousandby midnight Friday. Was she just live
streaming on Instagram or Facebook or somethingon Twitter? Yeah, just from her
phone from her seat? Wow,eight hundred thousand people, two million views

(49:23):
plus still counting. I guess towatch this. Names Reesa had a good
game actually, but it was streamedall those times. But my question is
this with with where we at withthe WNBA. Like I said, we
don't talk about it a lot.I don't ever remember even when they got
to when they get to the finals. It just never And maybe I'm dropping

(49:45):
the ball, but just used aterm earlier, and I know it wasn't
derogatory, but it was an interestingterm. I hope that isn't the term
that we're talking about a couple ofyears from now. But but you use
the term I said. I said, I'm gonna bring this up because I'm
curious when I saw those numbers onthe stream, and I know what the

(50:06):
numbers look like for the games.I mean, I don't think there's going
to be a game this year thatCaitlin Clark will play for Indiana that won't
be either sold out or damn closeto being sold out in the arena home
or away, like all her homegames are sold out, I believe already,
and most of the games on theroad. Some of the places that
maybe you're not playing in a normallya bigger arena, you've already moved it.

(50:27):
Like Vegas doesn't normally play at TeamMobile, they're moving to the hockey
rink for that game. Where thePact twelve championships aren't or were post past
tense. But Jess use the termamand it was one hit wonder because I
was and I hadn't thought it inthose terms, but I do kind of
I kind of wonder that women's basketball, specifically in the WNBA, has it

(50:50):
progressed to the point of being mainstreamfor me? Guys like me, do
I need to talk about this?Is it now mainstream? And I mentioned
to Jess, I kind of dothis little I don't know, I let
my secrets out of the bag alittle bit here, but that's fine.
Well I do, yeah, Well, but then the guys that hopefully none
of them are listening. But whenI'm out and about, you know,

(51:13):
with friends, even yesterday when Imentioned earlier, was with my buddy Gus
and Derek, we're talking golf tournamentstuff, and inevitably it's guy talk.
You're bs and you're talking, you'redoing, you know, You're just you're
you know, And most of thetime with us it's like, you know,
we're talking sports. Wednesday nights,I play in a golf league.
There's twenty people. We gather afterwardsand have a bite to eat and a
drink, and a lot of theconversation outside of how bad our golf score

(51:37):
was that day, or you know, going hole by a hole to break
down what we do, because that'swhat you do when you're an idiot golfer.
I'll just do Yeah, I gotto nine. I thought I had
a one hundred and twenty yards in. I left it short in the that
comes up. But more importantly,I do do this often because I think
it's important. You know, whenwhen we're out and about, like what
what are we talking about? Likewhat are the topics of conversation? And

(52:00):
I usually bring that into what Iwant to do a show with, So
I kind of use barometers of beingout and about talking of people being in
social settings around for the most partguys, but I know we have a
lot of women listeners as well, and I always think, what's the topic,
what's the agenda? What are peoplediscussing? And it's a different world

(52:22):
we live in right now, Likein television for example, and Jess worked
where I worked for for a longtime at Fox thirteen. When you're doing
a TV sports cast or even aTV newscast, you just kind of look
for something that's a headline that'll pop, that'll make a good story. You
don't really worry about what the massesare thinking. For example, I think
Levine just did a story the otherday on the semi pro indoor football team

(52:44):
that plays up in effort. They'llbe like three hundred people at those games,
and God bless them, they're livingout the dream they want to play.
But that's not something you'll ever hearon sports talk radio, nor should
you, because you just don't carewhere Taylor's We play Taylor Swift, that's
what we do. Taylor Swift willbe the Seahawks. Ed Sheeran would be

(53:06):
the Mariners, right am? Iright on that is he's still a big
deal. I don't even know.Yeah, okay, you get my born
and iHeart studio. His face ison the wall. You get my point.
But is the WNB right now justthe one hit wonder because of kate
le Clark? Maybe not? BecauseAngel Reese and company had two million people
watching a live stream what like twomillion people watching a cell phone game.

(53:29):
So here's here's my thoughts on thattoo. And that's a really good point,
especially well one the w NBA missedout on all those viewers on their
own play right, Hey, stopright there a great point, like are
you kidding me? You're gonna runaround and complain all the time. About
not getting coverage and not doing thisand not doing that. There are really
probably I mean I give camera Bringprobably too much credit. I think she's

(53:52):
a great player and should be funto watch. The six to seven girl
from from Stanford. You know,we talked about her with a listen and
lease and stuff. Really there's twomassive names right now that came to the
league, Angel and Caitlin for anyof their games not to be available for
those who want to at least purchaseit. You're right, that is that
is way dropping the ball, Likehow you how you do? That's that

(54:15):
an opportunity you miss? So thatis not our fault for not watching it.
I'll go back, that's a youproblem. Yeah, That's not a
US problem. That's a U problem, WNBA, that's a you problem.
Yeah. So the other thing is, you know, in conjunction with all
those numbers, all those eyeballs thatare on there, the reason I think
that it could not be what Icalled a one hit wonder with all this

(54:36):
is because you're going to get moreeyeballs, and you're going to have more
eyeballs that could gravitate towards another player. Maybe it's not someone that every single
television camera was on during the NCAAtournament or during WNBA games. Maybe they're
already in the league. Maybe you'regonna watch this tenacious defensive player who all
of that. That's what happens tome. I've always said that when it
comes to basketball, I gravitate towardsplayers, not sorts teams, And so

(55:00):
that will make me love a team, that will make me want to keep
watching. And I know that thedifference between men's and women's basketball is you'll
see a lot more defensive play ina women's game, and that they're just
different games. They're just different differentI think that's that's something nobody ever wants
to admit. They're different games. It's different games. If you're not leading
the league in scoring, you're probablynot being talked about in any capacity right

(55:23):
right. And so that's how Isee that this could snowball because of the
Yes, there are two big namesthat will bring the eyeballs right now,
but bringing those eyeballs will bring itto entire teams and the teams that they're
facing. So I think it couldactually have a dramatic effect, but that

(55:43):
is dependent on how people feel afterwatching full games. Just because of two
people. Yeah, I and Iguess that's my that's my curiosity, Like
do people here care that Skylar Digginssign with this with the Storm or Necka
signed with the Storm? You know? Since Sue left, it just kind
of feels like there's now they're goingto be good team. Jewellloyd's great,
I mean leaking. Do we knowthat people realize she was a leading scorer

(56:05):
on the wmblists set a record.I don't know. Maybe I just don't
want to drop the ball, butI also don't want to do something and
spend time in which I just spenttwenty minutes on it, but I are
ten minutes actually, but on somethingthat really the masses don't care about,
you know, and I know noteverybody's an NHL fan, for example,
but we're the home of the crackingand it's considered one of the big four

(56:27):
sports. We don't do a tonof soccer, but schmetches on every week
with Softy and Faint. I wishshe was on with us, to be
honest. We think I think he'sthe best interview in the city, fantastic,
and I think he's actually the bestpersonality in the city in terms of
sports. I think he's fantastic.I have set appointment listening to hear that.
And he's also the most successful coachthat we've had in this area in
forever. But it's not for everybody, you know, we do sounders weekly,

(56:49):
cracking weekly things like that. Idon't know, are we missing the
ball or is it just is ita one or two hit wonder in this
league right now? The two youngplayers? Are they the reason? That
number? Just it knocked me overthe fact two million people watching and watch
the damn streaming video and god,you had a great point. What were
you doing, WNBA? How didyou anticipate the popularity? Stop complaining about

(57:15):
lack of exposure and revenue in yourown hell that's on Chicago too, like
really like, I would hope thatif we had in Seattle one of those
two players, if Caitlin Clark orAngel Reese had been drafted by the Storm,
if they hadn't trade away their picks, they got lottery picks and they
got one of those two players, and I guess they could have They actually
could have had Angel because she wasdrafted a little bit lower. I would

(57:37):
hope that, you know, Foxthirteen is that is the TV partner for
the Storm. I would have hopedthat Fane and Elise and Alyssa or whoever
would have been doing the game.I would I think we would. In
fact, I pretty much know wewould have. I think we for sure
would have done appreciating happening. Andalso the league can step in in these
situations, yeah, and try tomake it feasible. Yeah, I don't
know those teams don't. I don'tblame the TV partners on the network level

(57:59):
because right now you got an NHLand NBA playoffs going on, and that
I mean they're working their schedules aroundin this second round conference semifinals to get
all those in. But yeah,so that's that's there as well. So
fourne four to five one Telemaro texton its game time. It's Sully time.
I'll so you can fire off atalkback as well. All you have
to do is go to the iHeartradio app. That's on the iHeartRadio app

(58:20):
on your iHeart on your smartphone.Go to the ninety three point three KJFM
part it's the little red microphone. You click on it and then you speak
for thirty seconds or less whatever ison your mind today as well. You
like to say your thoughts, yourquestions, your concerns, you know what,
even your complaints at four nine, four five one or on the talk
back as well. So odds forthe NFL season since we don't have a

(58:43):
schedule to talk about. And thisjumped out at me today. I was
watching something might have been just anational TV show this morning, and passing,
I glanced up and I saw theodds were crawling across the bottom to
win the Super Bowl this year.Where does our local team stack up?
Is it too high? Is ittoo low? My? How things have

(59:04):
changed as well post draft and postmost of free agency expectations for our local
NFL team, your Seattle Seahawks.Next live from the R and R Foundation
Specialists broadcast studio. Back to IanFernetz Power Advice, Seattle's closest sports book,
snowp call me Casino on Sports Radioninety three point three kJ R FM.

(59:31):
Is that new fresh hot off thepresses or whatever you call the radio
production, fresh off the ones andtwos? What do you think? Do
you think R and R Foundation specialistscould fix the microphone? And now my
little look at the little off buttonhere is broken? See that? Oh?

(59:52):
So you know what I mean upull, you know what the placement,
you know what this means. We'renever going to be off. We're always
on. Microphone is always on.We have had some meltdowns here from a
technical standpoint where we had to wewill never we have actually we have never.
We'll never be able to turn themicrophone off again. People are like,
oh my god, you mean you'realways going to be audient? Yeah,

(01:00:14):
always on, just never ever goingto leave you, never going to
be gone, never going to beout of here. The four tell them
who TEXTI on his game time exists? Indeed, we how's Anders doing this
week? If we talked to himat all? You see do you guys
see two ships passing in the nightwhen he's done in the morning, Yes,
exactly, treat him well in themorning. Yeah, he sounds really
good on that show. I don'tknow how much of you you get to

(01:00:35):
hear, but he I mean it. He is obviously having a really good
time. Are they just nerding outwith baseball all day? Yeah? So
he likes that. But they havefun. You know, they have their
their random drafts that they do andI heard that this morning, so I'm
sorry, not random, but theyhave different subjects that they draft and then
listeners vote on Twitter which draft theylike the most. And Chris Kidd is

(01:00:58):
a regular part of that. Butnow that Andrews is in this week,
he was doing it this morning andit sounds really good. Obviously, there's
no replacing Ashley, but I likehim. I just think he's really on
the show. I mean, Ithink he's really tired. Did he schedule?
Did Chris get banned because of hisSonic changing the name opinion yesterday?
Did they Did they know? Werethey aware of that? Is that why

(01:01:21):
they didn't allow him in the studiotoday? I not that I know of,
all right, but that could bea reason. Yeah, because that's
that's just one of those things thatcould get you banned for life. You
know. It's it's not say Imean, you can do a lot of
things in this world and not getin trouble, Like you can throw a
heating bag or pack it on theon the floor Jamal Murray and things like

(01:01:42):
that. During the play you getfine one hundred grand, but you won't
get suspended. But when you're inSeattle on a talk show and it's the
former home of the Sonics and youfire off Maybe they shouldn't be called the
sonics. That might be one ofthose things you get suspended for. I
haven't I haven't discusvered that fireble offensecome to my firable fence would be coming
to mind at that point in time. So yes, all right, Oh,

(01:02:04):
I've got an idea, by theway, for tomorrow. Remind me
of the break, because you knowI'll forget things. I do forget things.
Terry Ryan's here, Hey, Terry, how arey the uh? Oh?
I think we're gonna get We mightget this thing fixed. I might
not have to ever see right now, I'll be on forever because a little
microphone. Yeah, I don't see. It's broken right there. I don't
know. Don't shake your head atme. Blame somebody else. We have
a break, Terry coming up ina few minutes. You can do it

(01:02:25):
then. I know when it wasfirst discovered. Okay, it damn right,
it wasn't. I don't break thingsaround here. The only thing I've
ever broken here, I'll freely admit, because I think the statue limitations has
gone. Maybe, just maybe atthree point fifty one Elliott, our old
studio, maybe just maybe I mighthave helped speed up the process of getting

(01:02:46):
a new copy machine. Maybe thatwould have been fifteen years ago. Maybe
I was the guy that finally putthe final nail in the coffin with the
heel to the butt to that thing. But that was fifteen years ago.
I saw gofice space style. Didyou take it out to a field and
put it to me? There's nocasey, There's no place I've ever worked.

(01:03:10):
I've never worked in a place thathas had more issues with you know,
with copy machines and printers than Iheeart Seattle. Correct means we're in
a that's okay, that's a compliment. If we're in a pretty good run
right now. Yeah, I can'tconnect to it, so it doesn't matter
to me. But like we ourold one at the old place. It

(01:03:34):
needed to be. It needed tohave a little, let's just say,
a little kick to the curb, and I helped it. Terry. That's
the only thing I've ever broken here. And you were I think you might
have been in another station then,so what it didn't I can think our
wonderful our office manager, land forNett did quite a tune up job.
Somebody else's probably it was somebody else'sproblems. That's why Terry doesn't care.
It was somebody else's problem back then, and again it was fifteen years ago.

(01:03:54):
I think apgra got blamed for thattoo, which is fine. Aselebrowski
the red baron hemu in one ofour former guys. Okay, I want
to bring this up. This segmentfour nine, four to five one is
a Telemorto text on the game timeI brought. I saw this crawl today.
You know, we're post NFL draftor post for the most part.

(01:04:15):
We're through, by the way,I about five minutes when you can fix
this, Terry, Uh, thewe're about We're we're post NFL draft,
post heavy free agency. There's stillsome moves to be made in a little
trinket. But I saw the crawltoday and it was like the you know,
NFL the Super Bowl favorites. AndI saw it in glancing and all
I noticed was it felt like Seattlewas near the end of the little crawl

(01:04:38):
right like it's going along and I'mseeing like you came Minnesota, New Orleans,
Seattle, and then you're kind oflumped in there with Washington and Tennessee.
Like that's not good, Like youdon't want to be there, And
I thought, well, I needto actually look at those odds a little
closer and see are we is thisteam really thought that low of this particular
season, the team that has favoredto win the Super Bowl, and this

(01:05:01):
is just Super Bowl. I canjust tell you if the Seahawks are number
three in terms of their division NFCWest, it's Niners, pretty big drop,
La Rams, Seattle, and thenanother really big drop and you find
the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray andet cetera. Marvin Harrison. But San
Francisco is the favorite to win theSuper Bowl plus six hundred, Kansas City

(01:05:27):
plus six fifteen. I went tobolsonal Qualmi Casino sports book, and a
couple other sports books just to kindof get a consensus. Baltimore is three
at plus nine hundred. They arethe only ones that aren't at least four
ditches or one hundred and twenty one. So as I'm going through this list
and looking at this, they theSeahawks are twenty second in the NFL in

(01:05:49):
terms of odds to win the SuperBowl. The only teams below Seattle,
Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, the Raiders, Arizona, Denver, New England the
Giants to see Washington in Carolina,So it wasn't quite as bad as I
thought, because that makes you actuallyand then when you break it out by
conference eleventh in the conference, Iput you kind of right around the middle

(01:06:10):
of the pack in the conference.I mean, you're the lower third sixteen
teams, but you're close enough tosay New Orleans. You're actually tied with
New Orleans and Minnesota. So you'rekind of actually about ninth right now in
the NFC. And I thought, man, what are our expectations for this
team. I mean, we'll getinto that and we do mini camps coming
up later this month, meaningful footballat the end of the season, which

(01:06:32):
has always been the case. Andthat's it's a great thing to bring up
because I wrote that down today. The one thing with Pete Carroll. Every
single year, including twenty eleven whenthey didn't make the playoffs and the other
three times they didn't make the playoffs, every single year and fourteen, they
were always in it. And theonly time that they didn't play a meaningful

(01:06:55):
game in the final week of theseason was twenty eleven when they played the
final game of the year at Arizonaevery other game that they played at the
end of the year, you wentinto that game that weekend, that day
with at least some hope. Thisyear, for example, they needed a
ton of help, right and itwas over by the time they kicked off.
But they've always done that. They'vealways been hanging around. And it's

(01:07:17):
an interesting thing with us as footballfans here because really, for the most
part, that hasn't been good enough, and it wasn't good enough the organization.
They fired Pete Carroll and they broughtto Mike McDonald the baseball team,
if we had a dollar for everytime it'll be said from now until the
end of the baseball season, let'sjust hope they're playing meaningful games in September,

(01:07:38):
we'd all be rich, because that'sgoing to be uttered a thousand times.
The bars are very different for baseballand football. But the NFL team
right now, you look at thatthey should be playing meaningful games at least
at the start of December, ifyou go by the odds makers. But
I'm looking through here. These arethe teams that have better odds to win
the Super Bowl in the NFC thanCLS San Francisco. Obviously, Detroit,

(01:08:01):
who Seattle plays this season plus twelvehundred. They're the number two team as
far as the NFC is concerned. The Philadelphia Eagles plus sixteen hundred, Dallas
plus eighteen hundred. You might aswell just don't waste your money ever betting
on the Dallas Cowboys to win theSuper Bowl. It's not going to happen
unless Troy Aikman or Roger Staubach comesback. Green Bay Packers plus two thousand.
A year ago, they were thoughtto be the dredge of the NFC

(01:08:24):
North. Those guys are now atplus two thousand, and they're right up
there. Atlanta all their quarterbacks plusthree thousand, Rams plus three thousand The
Bears. The woeful Bears better oddsthan Seattle at plus four thousand in the
NFC, and as mentioned, Minnesotaand New Orleans are the same with Seattle.
Our expectations should be that this team'sbetter than that. They should be

(01:08:45):
better than eleventh in the NFC.They didn't hire Mike McDonald to come in
here rebuild. They've brought Mike McDonaldin here to take the existing core.
Add to that with John Schneider's draftclasses, some free agents and be a
better football team than a year ago. I think they will be really do
thinking what's going on? Okay, take a break, everybuddy, Ryan Clark
from ESPN All Things Hockey, Cracking, coaching search, NHL Draft Lottery,

(01:09:09):
mostly cracking coaching search All coming upnext MI from the R and R Foundation
specialist broadcast studio. Back to IanFernetz, Power Advice, Seattle's closest sports
book, Snow call me Casino onsports Radio Nutty three point three kJ R

(01:09:36):
came in here and fixed our littlething. Here. I can turn the
microphones on and off. Nothing's brokenanymore. Ask and you shall receive shout
out to Terry Ryan, the engineer, not Terry Ryan, the former hockey
player. There is such a thingI don't know. We don't know that
much about Terry Spetts. No,I know both of them. Trust me,
They're not the same guy in anyway, shape or form. Joining

(01:09:58):
us right now speaking of hockey onthe b Computing hot Line from ESPN,
and you can read his work thereESPN Plus as well, including what the
crack you need to do in theoff season. Our good friend Ryan Clark,
Hello, sir, how are yougood? What about yourself? I'm
damn good, buddy. I've gotmy our broken studio has been fixed.
So I'm a happy little things inlife Ryan, It's the little things in

(01:10:18):
life when you're doing a radio showthat just kind of put a smile on
your face, and just like that, I gotta smile on my face.
I can turn my microphone on andoff, and I know a lot of
people just say turn it off inBut anyway, here we are. How
it's good to have you on,Buddy's good to have you on. Are
you in Vancouver or anything? Whatare you doing right now? Yes,
so I am in Vancouver, whereI will be here through tomorrow and then

(01:10:39):
drive back to Seattle, where thenon Friday, I will fly to Denver
for Game three and four before comingback to Seattle. And after that I'll
either be in Vancouver, I'll bein Edmonton, I'll be in Denver,
I'll be in Dallas. Either way, I just don't know where I live.
Hey. In general terms, Imentioned this the end of the day
from the NHL stat page, andit's pretty wild, I mean incredible,

(01:11:01):
incredible playoffs so far in terms ofclose games we had two overtime games last
night, actually three overtime periods totallast night. I think it's now over
ninety percent of the games I'm decidedby one goal or two with an empty
netteral on the way. It feelslike the NHL playoffs are always great.
This year seems maybe even a littlebetter in terms of great close games.

(01:11:23):
We're just not seeing blowouts. It'sbeen a fantastic run so far, hasn't
it. It has been. Imean, it's interesting to kind of figure
out why that is, and somany people have thrown out different reasons and
opinions. But one that you keephearing that makes a lot of sense is
when you look at how money teamsare spending to the cap. Sure,
there have been teams like Nashville thathave more space than others, but Nashville

(01:11:45):
still loaded up not only in theoffseasons with the decisions it made, but
also they've had players they could cultivatefrom with then while making moves at the
deadline, and it's going to leadto these closer, tighter series. But
also it's teams are trying to supplementtheir depth in so many ways to where
if they need those second, third, fourth line options those second and third

(01:12:05):
deep airings to step up, theycan get it. But even something like
goaltending, and again it's not thesame because of last year. Therefore,
but when you think about the formulaof the Golden Knights uses to win the
Stanley Cup last season, that wasa team that only relied on its depth
with all of its forward lines anddeep airings. That even it's goaltending,
and so when you look at howteams are set up, it's just reinforced

(01:12:28):
that. Look in the time ofhaving Tamdom goaltenders, it's not enough that
too, you need to have three. And so because everyone's building depth and
spending money, it's why we're seeingsuch close games. Ryan Clark joining us
from ESPN up there in Vancouver,Edmonton Vancouver Game one tonight of the All
Canada Series. Should be a tonof fun watching that series along with the
rest of them. Winner takes onthe winner Colorado Dallas and Dallas losing at

(01:12:50):
home last night overtime, Colorado comesback gets the win after trailing three noth
in just a phenomenal game that wastoo. As far as our team here,
Ryan, I think last I sawyou was a couple a few weeks
ago towards the end of the seasonat Climate Pledge, and you know,
we're kind of looking ahead to seewhat might happen. What might happen?
Did happen? Dave Hackstall was letgo by the Kraken. What do you
think went wrong for Hackstall and theKraken? It's the inconsistency. So year

(01:13:17):
one they were lottery bad. Yeartwo they are nearly good enough to get
to the Western Conference Final. Good. Year three they're not lottery bad.
They're not at the top five pick, but they're not good enough to get
a wild card spot. They're inthis middle ground that you could see them

(01:13:41):
going one direction or the other. And at that point, if you're a
franchise, you're thinking about what youcan do to get back into the postseason.
And when you look at the inconsistencyover the three years, along with
something that's been another challenge, scoringgoals, it led to questions that if
the change was coming, and wesaw that change and only with the hasstll

(01:14:01):
with Publickfarland. Because you think aboutthe cracking success last season, this is
a team that got goals from everywhere. They had the second high shooting percentage
in the NHL. You think aboutthe way this year went. They struggled
the goals, They struggled to getgoals consistently from all over their lineup and
their shooting percentage with the fourth rostin the league, and when you have
a team for all the things thatit showed that you can do while playing

(01:14:25):
in a market, if you wantto get into it, if you want
to do if you wont playing ina market where even though it's only been
three years, there's a lot ofexpectations in Seattle that are different compared to
other markets. The Kraken felt likeit they needed to do something, and
this was the move. Yeah.I mean the expectation sometimes are business based
as well, like you got tosell tickets. They never had a problem

(01:14:47):
with that the first three years. Now a lot of those three year contracts
are up. They've got to play. They got to be better, maybe
play more entertaining hockey, score moregoals. Goals are fun. People jump
up and down, they play inneirvana. And that didn't happen enough this
season. Shoot at nine point onepercent, which was off almost three percent
from the year before. As youmentioned, you got your pulse around the
league. There's always the same names. Anytime an NHL coaching job is open,

(01:15:10):
it's the same five, six, seven guys being named. What are
you hearing as far as guys thatcould replace Dave Haxtall. Oh, the
big thing that keeps talking about, just like it was three years ago,
was Rob Brendam wore. But itlooks like maybe that situation in Carolina like
he could end up staying. Ofcourse, there's that thought of well,
what if the hurricane gets swept thisround? Is that change the calculus?

(01:15:33):
So who's to say? But thenyou give up other names? Of course,
the Seattle Times report had Todd McCollumis someone who had met with the
team, And Todd McCollum is oneof those names that makes sense you think
about what he did in San Jose, what he did in Los Angeles.
He is someone that can take ateam from trying to get out of sort
of that non playoff conversation back intothe playoffs. That's what he's excelled at.

(01:15:58):
Another name that has been an interestingone has been Creb Berube, the
former coach of the Saint Louis Blues. Of course, he died into the
first Stanley Cup in franchise history, but Arube is also someone that you think
about what he's done in his career, especially with the Blues. It's a
similar team and that there are questionsof how do they get back into the
playoffs? None do they get in, but they win and while yes,

(01:16:21):
things didn't go well for him thisyear, there are still even questions of,
well, yes, the change hadto be made, Saint Louis was
moving on from him, their rightchange, and so those are among the
names that you hear. Of coursethere are others. One that's interesting is
Jay Leech just because he is someonethat's been talked about throughout the league,

(01:16:42):
of course the Crack and assistant andyou think about what his defensive structures have
been able to do for that team. It's been one of the most consistent
factors they've had over the last threeyears. So there's definitely going to be
options. But if you're the Crackand you're trying to find someone who can
check the boxes of can their systemsproduced goals or can they bring in assistants
whose systems can produce goals? Thesecond is team you get back into the

(01:17:04):
playoff discussion, and then the thirdis how do you consistently stay in the
playoffs because something that we've seen overthe years is teams that have been building
and building, and then they getinto the playoffs one year, and then
the question becomes, is this thenew norm or is this a one off?
And the cracking right now they're tryingto answer those two questions. Yeah,

(01:17:26):
and it's and you know, turnaround to the NHL happen quick case
in point. The team you're watchingplay at home tonight, the Vancouver Canucks,
I mean, and Rick talk hasplayed the underdog role quite well.
I saw his press conference the otherday. Yeah, well, and no
one expected us to be here,I mean going down that road. But
he's right, nobody expected them tobe there, and they ended up being
the top team in the division. And now they got Edmonton with homelice advantage.

(01:17:48):
What a great atmosphere, buddy, you're going to have up there tonight.
I'm I'm very jealous. Vancouver homegame against Edmonton doesn't get much better
than that. So look for thecoverage. I'll be looking for that.
I think we all should be atESPN ESPN dot com with Ryan and enjoy
the games. And uh, i'dsay enjoy the travel, but nobody enjoys
travel, but to enjoy the gamesyou get to cover over the next few

(01:18:10):
weeks. My friend, thank you, no, thanks for having me on.

dickerd Jake How are you. It'sgreat to be back on and you bet
it's amazing over here. It's aboutto break seventy here this weekend and we're

(01:22:24):
loving it so a little calmer herein May. So I appreciate you guys
having me I appreciate it. Iappreciate you coming on. Yeah, it's
it's spring game is done. You'rekind of putting a rap on things.
I think I believe the portal isat least closed, so you know who
you have still there, and Iknow you're still working on recruiting and everything
else. But let's just start bigpicture wise spring football. How did it

(01:22:45):
go? I'll tell you this. You can just feel in a little bit
different energy in the team and it'sgoing to be the most competitive at every
position since I've been here, andI'm going on year three as the head
coach, and it really is nota concern. It's an excitement and makes
practices to a heightened state. Itmakes everybody, you know, bring out

(01:23:06):
their best every day. And that'sfrom quarterback to running back to who's going
to be the extra receivers, thelinebackers, secondary. I just love the
depth of this football team and we'restill in that developmental state. So excited
about where we're at right now,and we need to have a big summer
of you know, just kind offundamental time and strength and conditioning and continue

(01:23:26):
to build ourselves back up to havea great fall camp. Jake, the
portal is one thing, But butmotivation, I always wonder is another.
And I think you and I've talkedabout this a couple of times before.
With you know, the uncertain, ever changing world of college football, we're
kind of wondering, you know, what's next, what's happening for you guys?
It appears the next two years you'replaying basically a Mountain West schedule a

(01:23:48):
couple you know, with the nonconference games mixed in. But but I
always wonder about the I guess motivationwould be the thing. You don't play
for a conference championship, but you'replaying for maybe spot in the College Football
playoff or a bowl game. Howis your team in the offseason in terms
of motivation, uncertainty, all theworld surrounding us right now, how is

(01:24:10):
that for you and your staff's andthe team. I mean, the first
thing you got to point to isall the way since January through now,
really every you know, I wouldsay ninety five percent of every main piece
of our team that's still here, you know, So what does that say
about our culture, our development, the want to of our guys to want
to really overcome a little bit someyou know, Ian, the disappointment of

(01:24:33):
last season. So the goal isstill there. You want to make the
college football playoffs. Yeah, theconference championship piece isn't there, but you
got to, you know, knockthese things off one game at a time.
And I believe our schedule provides usthat opportunity. And it isn't about
who we play. It's about us. It's about how we execute, and
it's about the mindset and the intensityof what we bring into each and every

(01:24:56):
game. Because there is going tobe a little poison out there. Ian
of Yeah, you're playing a littlebit less competition, you're not in the
Pac twelve, but you guys shouldwin all these games. I mean,
that's poison. You got to comein with a mindset and an attitude to
want to prove it each and everyweek. And that just doesn't show up
in a perceived big game. Itshows up in practice, it shows out
in your weightlifting sessions. It's gotto be presents and everything that we do

(01:25:19):
because the outside noise will tell usthis is going to be easy, and
I've been doing this long enough toknow that that's never true. I I'll
be honest with you. It isreally hard for those of us that aren't
in it every day to keep trackof portal stuff and who's in and who's
out, who's leaving, who's not. But as you mentioned, your retention
rate seemed really high. Obviously whathappened with basketball is easier to keep track

(01:25:42):
of. There's you know, twelveguys, fourteen guys on scholarship and we
can kind of see Okay, hey, shout out to our guy Isaiah Wats
by the way, man, Huh, that's a true coup right there.
We love Isaiah Wats. But youknow, it's easy to keep track of
that football. It's a little bitharder. But you mentioned it that it
felt like good retention. It feelslike you guys did a really nice job
and you didn't really lose. Imean, we know cam Ward went to
Miami, he was going to gosomewhere. That's fine. But outside of

(01:26:05):
cam what did you lose? Nothingthat I'm worried about. Right now,
we're on to the next thing. We worked hard and diligent to replace those
guys. And in today's world, and you got to understand, you know,
guys are always looking for opportunities andsometimes you know, some backup guys

(01:26:25):
they want to you know, shineand play more, and they're looking for
those deals. So you got toplan that. The biggest thing we did
is I think we planned for thatbetter than we ever have. That means
you got to oversign, you gotto overproject, you got to have a
ton of honest conversations, and yougot to make sure it lands about right
this time of year. And wedid a way better job this time than
we did last year. So wejust added you know, an O line

(01:26:47):
corner and the inside cover guy,and those filled up our last three spots.
So and I had some conversations withother programs today that are still looking
for other pieces. So we feelvery strong with where we're at, and
we have the talent required to goout there and win a bunch of games
the uh, which is awesome tohear. I mean, I guess and
that is a tribute to you andyour staff. And also I mean I

(01:27:09):
think sometimes we've talked about this andI listen I for Pullman's not for everybody,
but for a lot of people,it is what they want and it
is and it's not like this isa program whether it was you or is
you, or whether it was coachLeech or coach Price, coach Doba,
coach Ericsson, Jim Wallen, whatever, it's not like you guys, if
I'm not mistaken, you're not goingout recruiting five five star guys, are

(01:27:31):
you. I mean, this isa different world that you recruit in,
so almost I'm kind of thinking insome ways business as usual. You go
find that guy that's pissed off atthe world as a chip on his shoulder,
and that's that's who you want toget anyway, right now, Can
you maintain them long enough to seehim all the way through the developmental process.
That's today's football's newest challenge, rightBut as far as recruiting piece,

(01:27:54):
you know, we felt, youknow, there's some challenges obviously not being
you know, in the in theold tax level, the Legacy PAC twelve.
I mean, there's a lot ofpeople that wanted to come prove they
could play at the highest level, but you still got to find the right
guy, not just the best player. And that's the biggest thing that you
know, we've known throughout the courseof you know me being here, is
that you've got to find that notjust the most talented. There is a

(01:28:15):
right fit. There is a bluecollar, there is a chip on the
shoulder. There is a guy that'smulti sport athletes. There is a kid
that like just like asking Trip, that six' seven come out of Kenwick
High School, that doesn't know whathe doesn't know, and you can put
him through the process and you candevelop those guys into some pretty special players.
So, you know, don't forget, not a lot of people want
to ave Lucas. Look what he'sdoing right. So can you just long

(01:28:40):
enough retain those guys to see theirsuccess all the way through? That will
always be the challenge in today's footballand that's not just for Washington State.
The spring gives you a lot ofguys an opportunity, and there are opportunities
especially at one position that's called thequarterback position. I think there's a strong
feeling all along that John Mattier wouldbe your guy. But it sounds like

(01:29:00):
you're going to take the quarterback competitionall the way through fall. Give us
an update on that competition, andI want to make sure I get his
name right, Jess, help meout here. Is it zebyck House?
Is that Zech? Yeah? Yeah? Who's a transfer in there as well?
How did how did those two guyslook the spring? Well, he
was very excited about that room,to be honest. And the biggest thing
that we're looking for Ian is someonethat's going to operate within the core of

(01:29:24):
our offense. And you know, there's a lot of things that go into
that. But I think John, you know, early on, I think
was pressed in a little too muchand made some mistakes and settled in as
camp went. And his skill setsaren't just throwing the ball. We're going
to use him in some running capacities. He can take the ball down the
field. You know, if youwatch the spring game, he had a
couple of long touchdown passes. Andthen Zev is just that you know,

(01:29:47):
he's been a three year starter atthe FCS level, through the ball at
a high, high level, andthere isn't anything that he hasn't seen.
So he's calm, he's collected,he's cool under all kinds of pressure,
and you know, I just thinkthat has elevated our room and it has
elevated Johns game. So you know, those are the type of right,
you know, combinations that you want. We had Anthony Gordon and Gardner Minshew

(01:30:11):
back for the spring game, andit was fun to listen to those guys
go through their quarterback competition of twentyeighteen and they just put their head down.
They're encouraging each other, but theyknew how important this decision would be
for the future of the team, and they both ended up getting their their
years shining. So, you know, excited about where we're at, and
we'll take this thing all the waythrough the game week and I might just
do a Coach Leach and just putor in front of a bunch of quarterbacks

(01:30:34):
names before we take the field versusPortland State. Well, poor Chazz.
I'm just thinking about Chaz and yourbroadcast crew right now because that was I'm
looking over at Jessment. I'm thinkingto myself, that was a that was
the most Coach Leach thing ever wasI got to break the news though every
week. Yeah, once you sawthem come out and here we go,
but yeah, that's a that's ajake. We love Coach Leach, the

(01:30:57):
late great Mike Leach was awesome. You don't need to do that to us.
You don't put or in there.Don't make that hard on us.
Don't make that hard on on BillStevens. I'm giving I'm giving Jess her
shine. So on that first gameday, okay, I know my line
is gonna be an amazing report thatI might even give her a little bit
of an insight. So she's gotthe track there you go, it'd be
great death. We're gonna set downfor a great deal there. And he

(01:31:18):
still doesn't run from me. No, that's that. That was my favorite
thing to watch back in the day. So do it one time, Jake
this year, Just one time sprintaway from her, just so I can
get a chuckle, will you,Jake? Jill think is watching the state
head football coach last season? Ifwe're being honest, the offensive line that's
something near and dear in my heartjust really struggled. Uh. New coach

(01:31:41):
in there, Jared Caster, whatcan you tell us about coach Castor and
and how that offensive line is looking? Well? I think my approach always
in with staff changes is it's anopportunity to go out there and get better,
and that's not a shot at anyonethat was here. It's just a
new opportunity. And Jarrett is veryfamiliar. He is another Texas tech guy,
but familiar with this offense, thisstyle, and he has a new

(01:32:04):
age energy and passion that I thinkis really relatable for our players. So
been very happy through spring. Alot of those guys, you know,
feel like freshman again because they're learninga bunch of new techniques. But I
like the physicality and the run principlesthat he's brought to our offense, and
that mentality is going to be needed. We got to be a balanced offense

(01:32:26):
and we will go just as yousaid in with our offensive line. And
we got a lot of returners, but we also got a lot of young
guys that have been working in ourprogram that we feel can enhance and challenge
those top guys. So I loveour depths. I feel like we have
a lot of guys there. Butwe got to go put it on tape.
This isn't something we can talk about. You got to go out there
and do it. But I thinkour guys are primed and ready to go

(01:32:48):
out there and accept that challenge.Well, we'll get more intricate in terms
of personnel as you know, whenwe get closer to the season and you
guys get through the summer. Buta general question in terms of your team,
what's just strength of your football teamright now? Jake? What is
it a position group? I mean, you know you got to and we'll
get to the NFL guys, becauseyou put a bunch of guys in the
NFL and which was awesome. Wehad a chance to talk to Brennan right

(01:33:09):
after he got drafted, which wasI mean, what a phenomenal kid.
I don't know how you replaced thefootball player. I certainly don't know how
you replace the person. But thataside, you know, with the guys
leaving for the NFL, and thatwas your biggest attrition guys going to the
show, what's just strength of yourfootball team? I mean we talked about
this quite a bit as a staff, and even though we don't have the

(01:33:31):
big names you refer to, youknow, Shaw and RJ and BJ and
Jayden Hicks, we actually have amore competitive blend and I think that shapes
the mentality. I think it does. I don't think it'll be one thing.
I don't think it'll be just adynamic offense or a defense that needs
to go out there and stop people. It was a special teams game.
We're going to win as a team, and I think be able to do

(01:33:54):
it in multiple ways is very important. But we got to be great at
the line scrimmage. I think wedid that and took those steps forward at
offensive line. I think this isas good as a defensive front as we
have had. And I know that'sodd to say losing our JMBJ, but
we feel completely comfortable in saying thatwe have taken a step forward there and

(01:34:15):
that's gonna set the tone so wecan win the line of scrimmage. It's
gonna allow us, with our skilledplayers to go out there and be successful.
Well. I like the fact thatyou got a guy, even though
we can forgive him for being anex husky, but Pete Callugus man,
that was one bad dude. WhenI remember when he played at Washington,
he actually interned in Bellingham Police Department. Reminded that when you see him next
time for my buddy who's a formerCougar football player of the late great Todd

(01:34:39):
Ramsey, and he interned up there. And that was Pete Calugas was a
strength room machine, but just oneone tough human being. I see that
guy's name associated with defensive tackles andI get excited. There's no doubt.
And I think he still holds likebench test records over there that it just
might never be touched. And youknow, he just I've never seen a

(01:35:01):
coach and pizza assistant head coach, but he has touched not just the defensive
tackles but every position. And hedoes it the old school way, but
he does it serving our players inour program and it's just so relatable to
these guys and they did a globonto them and there's nothing soft about it.
But there's tons of energy and there'sjust tons to give and it's just

(01:35:21):
that comes from the right place. And Piece Doe an amazing job and I'm
just so proud that he's part ofour program now here on in Washington State.
Yeah, he saw the light mangot over the pullman in God's Country
over there. Huh, Like that'sright, we like that action. Hey,
I want I'm curious just what's theNFL getting in your guys that got
drafted. And let's start with Brennanbecause he was, like I said,

(01:35:44):
we had him on the show andI'd never talked to him before. I
feel bad about never having him onthe radio show before, but boy,
what an impressive young man. Whatare the Rams getting in him? I
think the best part for all theseguys before I talk about BJ is just
the homegrowl guys. They're police products. They've been through our program and that
is just so satisfying for those guysto trust us, especially RGMBJ. They

(01:36:09):
had tons of opportunity, tons oftemptations. Both guys went out there and
had better senior years than their junioryears. Brennan, It's amazing. I
got so many calls going into daythree of the draft about teams wanting to
take them, and they all saidbecause of the way he plays. He's
like, he's tough, he's physical, He's gonna go out there and give

(01:36:30):
you everything. He's got the energythat he provides to it. He's going
to maximize his ability. So thepoint there is no matter what level you're
at, you know they're looking forthe same things. And I think Brennan
will be a second contract guy inthe NFL because of how he does it,
not exactly what he does that ishis separator. So proud of that
kid and that guy will be acoup for life. Jayden Hicks goes to

(01:36:53):
Kansas City. I guess they likeCougar defensive backs in casey huh. I
text day on Watson, I said, hey, take care of our pup.
Now. I think you're a twotimes Super Bowl champion. You go
out there and give him some advice. I know this, James not happy
with where he was taking and Idon't say that in a bad way.
I think he's loaded with potential andhe's going through the NFL with a chip

(01:37:14):
on his shoulder. He's got alot to prove. He's also got I
think the highest ceiling of any ofthose guys. He's still getting better.
He's just twenty one years old,and he's gonna go out there and do
a lot of great things. Andsometimes people just didn't know where to put
him. I just said, puthim anywhere. He's gonna thrive. Came
in here as a corner, endedup being All America safety. I just
think he's got tons of potential andhe's a great place to be drafted to,

(01:37:39):
so he's gonna go out and takeadvantage of it. And Shaw smith
Way goes to Carolina, He'll geta chance to play right away as a
fifth ront pick onon he oh,hecky, yeah. I just talk about
a versatile player. I mean, everyone loved him as the inside cover guy,
so I think it's the hardest thingto do in football. He's physically,
he's aggressive, and once again, once he figured it out off the
field, it's amazing and he becameon the field and it's just a great

(01:38:01):
example to our guys. And Iproud of all those guys. I think
they're better people than players, andI can vouch for that, and I'm
really proud of those guys. Inoticed it's the spring game and you mentioned
a couple of the guys, butI mean, Desmond Patman was there,
Abe Lucas was there. Last Ichecked. Everyone in Pullman got a chance
to say hello and an autograph fromGardner Minshew who was there, and other

(01:38:23):
guys like that. I mean thatdude's just a rock star. But it
feels more so than ever before, like you're trying to develop a culture,
and maybe the challenging times necessity makethis even more necessary and important. But
you seem to be cultivating a culturewhere the guys that played there, you
welcome them back. You want themback. You want them around the team,

(01:38:44):
especially the NFL guys. You know, I think it's really important because
we stand on the shoulders and thefoundations of what they built. We're just
the keepers of the program. Itell that to our guys all the time,
and what we want to leave forthe next generation of Koos. I
don't think anyone that came through thisplace is that we talked about has that
ship on the shoulder mentality and areproud of what they built and to see

(01:39:06):
some of that, you know,be challenged that. I think the pride
of those players have really bowed up. But I also wanted to open the
door because it wasn't always open hereand those guys got used to that,
and so we're changing that and it'sbeen fun to bring them back in to
make some of those guys honery headcoaches who want to continue to do that

(01:39:27):
because Pullman isn't easy to get to. But where we play in San Diego
or we play wherever it is acrossthis country, we want those guys being
there, and we want them onthe sideline, and I want them sharing
their experience. You should have heardGardner and Jack Thompson, Ruben mays share
their experience with the players. Imean, it was so relatable because whether
you play in the eighties or youplayed last year man this place, it's

(01:39:49):
been fun to hear those stories beconnected and why our guys should be very
proud to represent the Coups. Yeah, I was. I saw some of
those pictures over there. It lookedawesome. And and Rubens one of the
greats too, one of the greathuman beings as well. I want to
heat a special guy, really specialguy, Jake. I'll let you go
after this. It's an interesting time. We always talk about, you know,

(01:40:10):
the world of college football, theportals, the Nils. I don't
know. I see Pike plays Brewingis doing a Cougar beer now for the
collective, so I guess I needto. I'm not a huge Logger fan
and Mormon an IPA guy, butI'm gonna go out and get some of
that stuff along the way. What'sJake Dickard's thoughts on the state of college
football right now where we are?I know it's been frustrating at times.
It kind of feels like we're inthis weird period for the next year or

(01:40:31):
two, wait to see what happens. With the acc and lawsuits and everything
else. But what do you tellCougar fans when they say, man,
I have a hard time being acollege football fan these days. I have
a hard time figuring out what tosupport and where to support it. What
do you tell Cougar fans? Imean, the biggest thing, you know,
our state did a good job. They're gonna lift a lot of the
restrictions on what we can say Junesixth and all the collectives and all those

(01:40:55):
things. It's not going away, and I think we got a better opportunity
now to go out there and impactthe program directly, you know, as
boosters, as fans, as alumni, as supporters. But the biggest thing
is we needing is we need everybody'sbest. There's no time to sit this
thing out, period because it isn'tjust going to happen. So if your

(01:41:16):
best is being here in Geese thefield and being allowed do that, If
your best is contributing to the ExcellenceFund or giving to the new Locker Room
project or being part of the collective, we need you to do that.
They don't show up when we win. We need this stuff to build winning
and they'll never go away In collegefootball. So that's the exact moment that

(01:41:40):
we're at, and you know that'swe got the power of all of us
to go out there and do it. So whatever your best is, we
need it now. We don't needit later. We don't need it when
we're ten and two. We needit now. So I'm excited about that.
Our guys are innately focused on whatwe need to do to go out
there and win. And just reallyI'm telling you, our fans are ready

(01:42:00):
to be proud of the type ofseason we're going to have, and we
got to go out there and doit. I was thinking more eleven and
one, not ten and two,But that's okay. I whatever you do,
arbitrary numbers, numbers. I've toldyou this before and I truly mean
it. I don't think we couldhave a better person leading us through these
tumultuous times than Jake Dickard, Andso I speak for a lot of Cougar

(01:42:21):
fans. We're thrilled that you're stillpart of our program in here and leading
this thing through and uh better, better times down the road. Eleven to
one, ten and two doesn't matter. Always being a Kug is the best
thing in the world. Go KoogsJake, thank you so much for coming
on. We appreciate it. Iappreciate you guys having me on Goko
