(00:00):
Okay, we gotta get into theMariners, who are right now. Nice
two wins in San Diego. Whata performance by Bryce Miller. Six shutout
innings four and one with a onepoint nine a er A and six starts
versus National League teams. He gotdone. Got a little dicey there at
the end, right the bases aregetting and I don't trust Stanic anymore.

(00:23):
That's a whole nother thing. ButBryce Miller got it done. So that's
the good news. Now they goon to Anaheim starting a four game series
against one of the worst teams inthe American League, the the Angels with
Mike Trout. What a waste heis out there right now, his career
completely wasted away. But the mannerskeeping the Astros at Bay, who again

(00:45):
won last night. So there's that. I gotta ask you this though,
what like I wanna I wanna geton Julio because Tuesday Julio went four for
four, he had a home run, and then yesterday he struck out not
once, not twice, not threetimes, but four times. Anders.
I just don't understand this guy.Yeah, and I did a little research.

(01:07):
Is that players born in this century, like you were almost born in
this century almost, but you weren'twith the most hits in Major League Baseball
players who were born this century BobbyWitt, Julia Rodriguez, and Luis Garcia
of the Washington Nationals. So it'sjust when you thought he was kind of
turning the corner there on Tuesday. And by the way, the defensive gem

(01:32):
he made yesterday to throw out Solanoon a one bouncer at the play that
was absolutely sick. But how doyou go from a four to four with
a home run on Tuesday to strikingout four times yesterday? What's going on?
Yeah? I don't know. You'retalking in the office about have you
ever seen someone have such a goodday where you have it it's two singles,

(01:55):
a double, a hard hit homerun to just cranked out of the
yard and then the next day comein over four or four strikeuts. I
guess that's how you describe baseball nowadays, right, Yeah, pretty much.
I don't get it. I dohave an idea though, and I mentioned
Jorge Polanco and I and I'm lookingat the team that has won the American
League West six of the last sevenyears in the Houston Astros, and they

(02:16):
did something back on June fourteenth,Anders, that completely changed their entire season.
So I'm trying to apply this toJerry Depoto and the Mariners that I
think that maybe they need to dowhat Dana Brown and the Astros did just
about a month ago when they dfaidJosea Braheu, who they paid all that

(02:38):
money to former American League MVP withthe Chicago White Sox all be in the
pandemic shortened season, and since thenAnders the Astros are seventeen and six.
They went from ten games out totwo games out. So now everybody obviously
in the PNW wants to get hetAlonzo not happening, Vlad Guerrero probably not

(03:04):
happening, all these fantasy baseball things. But I think what the Astros did
it is something that I'm hoping thatJerry Depoto will do ultimately. It's called
addition by subtraction. They dfaid JoseaBrau, which is exactly what Jerry Depoto
needs to do with Jorge Polanco, paid him ten and a half million dollars

(03:24):
this season. He was the bigoff season acquisition. It clearly isn't worked
out, but sometimes when you dothat, it might stir up the clubhouse
a little bit to say, hey, we need to get our act in
gear. It happened with the Astrosand they turn their entire season around.
Now, obviously, the Mariners hadbeen in first place for pretty much the

(03:46):
entire season, if I'm not mistaken, But but like, don't you think
that maybe just something like that cankind of rile it lights a fire under
their asses. Yeah, I thinkso they need something like a message to
be sent that this like, eventhough you're in first place, like,
we still need to be better. This isn't good enough at this point the
performances and eventually the Astras, Ithink we'll catch up. They have the

(04:09):
track record to do that. They'vedone that the last what it feels like
ten years at this point. Soyeah, I think there's two ways to
look at this. Like a lotof people kind of wanted the Mariners to
kind of prove that they needed upgrades, so they were not happy when they
were losing, but it was almostlike a kind of silver lining to where
you could, oh, okay, but now at least they know they can

(04:30):
make a trade and get this teambetter. It's kind of the opposite though,
the more teams that make trades arethe ones that are actually playing better
and that they know that this yearis going to be the one to kind
of go for it. So it'salmost when we get closer to the trade
deadline and as we get closer tothe astras catching up to us, it's
it's kind of a worrisome situation.I mean, here we are fifty one

(04:54):
forty three, and by the way, at the top of next hour,
we'll have Carl Ravitch, the playby play announcer extraordinaiy from ESPN Sunday Night
Baseball, does a great job finallysolidified that broadcast got away from k Rod
which is a complete total I don'teven want to say it on the air,
got away from that ravaged by theway, I was kind of you
know, and I knew a lotobviously, I've had him on my show

(05:16):
for many, many years. Buthe's one of the longest tenured employees at
ESPN, remaining he started back inthe early nineties. I think basically only
Dick fi Tal has been at ESPNlonger than Karl Raviss. Wow, that
actually surprises me because I mean Iremember the Baseball Tonight like Heyday in their
mid two thousands and maybe in theearly twenty tens, and he was kind

(05:39):
of the guy you would hear onthat. No, he's phenomenal, and
we'll ask him. What's with theManners despite the fact that they have a
two game lead in first place,And just to show you how bad things
are not on the pitching side,it's obviously where the front office have got
everything right. It's definitely with Badding. Now, the one category that the

(06:00):
ms have been pretty good at hishome runs. I me at least they're
thirteenth in Baseball one hundred and threeon the season. Obviously they're not the
Mets, but there that's respectable. And then after this, Anders RBIs twenty
seventh, run scored, twenty eighth, OBP twenty six, slugging twenty eighth,
ops twenty eighth, hits thirtieth, dead last, and batting average to

(06:25):
seventeen as a team dfl last inmajor leagues. Now, last year,
just to give you some context onthis, the Milwaukee Brewers had the worst
batting average, one of the worstbatting averages in baseball as a team last
year. But I believe it waslike about two forty three. They made
the playoffs. I'm not saying theMariners can't, because I think they actually

(06:47):
will. But it's amazing to methat on one side of the ball they
are dynamite, one of the bestpitching staffs in baseball, and yet conversely,
in on the other side, youcan be so bad. Yeah,
and the other I'm surprised you didn'tbring up the one stat that just gets

(07:08):
Mariners fans just berating their team, and that is the strikeouts. They are
on pace to strike out more thanany team in baseball history at this point.
So inexcusable. Yeah, absolutely inexcusable. But hey, again, you
took care of the Padres, apretty good team that's certainly in the hunt
for the playoffs. Now you getfour Mariners four games under five hundred on

(07:30):
the road, take care get atleast three out of four. Keep the
Astros at bay because they are comingand they're gonna make moves too. So
I don't know what it's gonna be, but they're going to make a move
prior to the deadline because justin Verlandersnot coming back anytime soon. So yesterday
it was announced, obviously about thekind of official, that the NBA has

(07:53):
a brand new media deal, andI in the neighborhood of seventy six bab
Bah bah Bah Billy dollars. Wow, which tells you how much that the
NBA. Obviously the King of theHill will always be the shield the NFL,
But the NBA, I mean, they're right thereafter in terms of financial
dollars. So Adam silver Andrews wasquoted and he was talking about saying,

(08:16):
I quote, it doesn't mean thatwe're going to announce that we're ready to
add teams. It means that therewill be a committee of NBA governors that
will focus on it. There areclearly markets out there that are very interested
and will run through a process. But I actually am and looking forward to
that. I think the league it'snot preordained that we will expand this time,

(08:37):
but I know that there's an enormousamount of interest out there. And
so with that being said, obviouslythat applies to the Seattle Sonics. And
yesterday Chris Daniels from Como News cameon with Softy and Dick and I was
just absolutely riveted by this interview andit's starting to feel real. And here

(09:01):
was Chris Daniels yesterday with Softy andDick. Yes, he said back on
June sixth, that once the dealis done, they're not going to snap
their fingers, so to speak, and announce expansion, but there would be
an expansion committee that would be formedof NBA owners. So you start laying
out this timeline now, and wedo have historical reference and the last time

(09:24):
the NBA did this that say theyget the deal signed off, announce it
here by the end of this month. We're talking somewhere in the August to
October timeframe of announcing an expansion committee. And the last time the NBA formally
expanded was December eighteenth, two thousandand two for the Charlotte then Bobcats two

(09:48):
years later, so they had lessthan a two year runway to start the
team. So if Adam Silver isleading everybody down this path and says that
they're going to form an expansion committeeand then turn to expand we are looking
at by the end of this yearhaving some sort of announcement about Seattle and
Vegas presumably together for a start.Yeah, twenty twenty six. If we

(10:09):
know by the end of this year, by the end of twenty twenty four,
should Sonic fans expect that it's goingto be the twenty five to twenty
six season, the twenty six twentyseventh season, When should people expect to
be able to walk into Climate PledgeArena in realistic terms? And I won't
hold you to this and watch thatteam play again. We're talking about twenty

(10:31):
six twenty seven season, a twoyear runway. Think about what the Kraken
had before their initial season and theexpansion draft and all the other franchises dealing
with salary cap and financial ramifications, all that kind of stuff. Other teams
are going to want a two yearrunway to plan for that and the contracts
of existing players. I would tellyou this off the and I appreciate what

(10:54):
you said there. This is astory that transcends sports. It's about civic
priority, it's about transportation, It'sabout what people care about in a very
diverse city. And I think that'swhy this story has resonated with so many
people, and a lot of SeattleHites feel like this city got a raw
deal back when they gave up theSonics for forty five million dollars. In

(11:18):
that franchise is now worth three billiondollars. It was a hell of a
deal for Clay Bennett. It wasa bad deal for the city of Seattle,
although they paid off the Key arenadebt. And I think that's why
a lot of people have paid attentionto this over years now sixteen years that
we're going and we know eighteen yearsthat we want to talk about when Clay
Benett bought the team from Howard Schild. So it does sound like we're in

(11:41):
the home stretch. Who knows we'regoing to have a hiccup here down,
you know, in terms of financingputting that money together. But every indication
over the last year from Adam Silver, from the NBA League office is they
get this TV digital rights deal andthey turned to expansion and there are two
cities that they have in mind, and we know that those cities have arenas
that can host NBA teams right now. Chris Daniels on yesterday with Softy and

(12:07):
Dick, it is a must listeninterview. I just I was just fascinated.
I could tell how emotional Softie wasgetting, and I get it because
he knows what it was like tobe here and see how great Sean Kemp,
Gary Payton, Debtlift Shrimp and allthose guys, you know, going
to the finals in ninety six afterbeing I believe, the first number one

(12:31):
seed to lose to an eight seedtwo years prior to that, and the
Denver Nuggets with Robert Pack and DekendeMutambo. I will say this, this
was the biggest travesty in sports historywhen that redneck hit Clay Bennett ripped the
Sonics away from Seattle sixteen years agoin July two thousand and eight, just

(12:54):
about a week after they had draftedthis guy by the name of Russell Westbrook
out of UCLA. Is it okayif I say, bleep powered Shultz?
Yeah? I think I just did. Can I say that on the air?
Basically? I think those sentiments havebeen echoed throughout the last fifteen I
would like to say the real thing, but I don't want to. You
know, again, we have FCCregulations. But so with all this being

(13:15):
said, and all this sentiment, and obviously the mayor of Seattle's saying let's
get together, you can feel it. Mister Bonderman hopefully. I know he's
a minority owner with the Boston Celtics, who are on the market right now,
he would have to divest that. You would like to see him be
the majority owner to buy, youknow, it would be the expansion SuperSonics.

(13:39):
So on that side. But Ihave a few ideas which I can
firmly say have never been heard onthese airwaves at least yet. But I'm
not just coming with yes, let'swelcome back to Sonics to Seattle. I
have a few ideas. Are youready for this? Anders, Yeah,
let's do it all right, basedon everything that is like in the present
time, my suggestion to be thepresident of basketball operations for the Seattle Sonics

(14:05):
coming up in twenty six twenty sevenis Bob Myers, former Golden State Warriors
president, who is part of notone, not two, not three,
but four NBA world titles with theWarriors, currently an analyst on ESPN.
Now, who does Bob Myers whoshe'd hires head coach? I've got it
for you. This is the guy. He's been absolutely underappreciated, underrated,

(14:31):
undervalued, the most experienced assistant coachand it should be a felony that this
guy is not a head coach inthe NBA today when some Hollywood hire who
has zero coaching experience down in LAby the name of JJ Reddick is the
coach of the Lakers and I wantto go with Celtics chief associate head coach
Sam Cassell. I was just youlike that, Okay, way overdue last,

(14:56):
but definitely not least I have asentimental local tie to help resurrect this
franchise. He grew up rooting hisentire life here in Seattle Rannier Beach High
School, Jamal Crawford on the staffof Sam Cassell, so to quote Matt
Damon's character and goodwill, hunting andreshow about them apples. I would love
all three of those hires, Likelike the local tie with Jamal Crawford,

(15:20):
he's always been kind of a Sonicskept bring him back advocate, and then
Bob Myers just seems like a homerun higher Absolutely no. Now, the
only thing that could transpire between nowand then when JJ Riddick and obviously this
nepotism thing that's going on in Laright now and Lebron's son Browny, when
this fails, and it's not amatter of if, it's a matter of

(15:41):
when maybe Genie Buss fires Rob Polenkaand brings in Bob Myers. That's the
only thing you'd have to worry aboutfrom now until then. So at least
it's starting to feel perhaps real.Obviously the announcement by Adam Silver more than
likely, hopefully probably we have towait and see what happened. I want.
I'm one of those people, andI'm like everybody in the PNW.

(16:03):
I'll believe it when I see thegreen and gold on the court right absolutely
at Clement Pgerina. That's exactly whenI'll believe it. All right. Who's
the biggest joke in all of sports? Right now? And a very special
anniversary coming up on Hitting to allFields on the Ian Fernest Show with Mark
James. Next on Seattle's Local SportsLeader ninety three to three KJR at them

(16:30):
live from the R and R FoundationSpecialist broadcast studio. Back to Ian Fernet's
powered by Seattle's closest sports book,SNOWP Call me Casino on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ R FM.All right, Mark with the CEE James
in for the Mayor of Maple Valley, Ian Furness. Here on Seattle's Local

(16:53):
Sports Leader ninety three point three kj R FM on your dial, Getting
to all Fields. Here, herewe go, the biggest joke in facade
in sports today. I'm not tellingyou anything that you don't already know.
I'm not gonna be some master ofrevelation. Is Bronnie James, aka charter
member of the Lucky Sperm Club whojust signed a guaranteed two year, eight

(17:17):
million dollar contract for a guy whoaveraged four and a half points per game
coming off the bench at USC inbasketball obviously not football. He played last
night Andershurst. Yeah, in hissecond NBA Summer League game. How did
he do? He scored three pointsin twenty nine minutes. Yeah, so

(17:41):
you're telling me he's doing basically whatmost people expected him to do because he
scored four points a game in collegeand he's kind of doing that again in
the summer league. Yes, yes, I mean, well, here's the
thing. There's nothing that's more disgustingthan this Lakers charade that Bronnie quote earned
it. It's blatant, egregious liestold by Polinka and their new head coach,

(18:02):
who really class act to by theway, who you can tell he
does give a bleep when he goes. I don't give a bleep at his
press conference about how he doesn't haveexperience. You clearly do, and he's
obviously insecure about that. JJ Reddick, but to insult the public's intelligence.
I would think right now that KobeBryant and the late great doctor Jerry Buss,

(18:23):
the former owner of the Lakers, are both rolling over in their graves
at how this circus has become towhere it's not the La Lakers anymore.
Anders, it's the lebron Lakers. He is running this entire franchise. Brodny
getting drafted is the equivalent of likea high school dropout after his freshman year

(18:47):
been given a Rhodes scholarship at anIvy League school. I would need,
Anders, I wouldn't have picked Bronnie. And I'm not being hyperbolic here,
I'm dead serious. I wouldn't havepicked him in the top ten of the
WNBA drafts. Not better than CaitlinClark, He's not better than Angel Reese.
If Paige Becker's from Yukon was init, I wouldn't. This is
a whole and I'll even go further. If he was on Duker Kansas right

(19:11):
now, playing for John Shire orBill self, he would be the eleventh
player off the bench on the depthchart. Yeah, I completely agree,
and it's just crazy to think.I'm really curious how this is gonna play
out. Is he gonna play aminute for the Lakers this year? Are
they really gonna try and bring upof course, listen, J Bill said,
and he did it in a verydirect and subtle way, and nobody

(19:33):
caught this. He was the onlygood guy on the first round of the
NBA draft. He said, Bronnieneeds to go two years in the G
League before he can ever help outin the NBA team. Yeah. I
agree with that, Yeah, right, And I don't think to be honest,
I don't even think that there's achance, Like there's no chance that
he's gonna be a good player.I could see him, like if he
actually develops in the G League fora couple of years, like Bill has

(19:56):
said, I just don't see thathappening. They're not gonna be that patient
with him. Lebron's gonna want toplay at this kid, They're gonna bring
him up on the team. He'sgonna have way too much expectations, and
I don't know if I'll fulfill him. I thought, unlike Hollywood, entertainment,
industry, politics, corporate America,I thought the last bastion of a
meritocracy was pro sports, where activeroster spots have never and should never be

(20:23):
given out to inferior talented NEPO babies. Now, I'll go ahead and make
the comparison you could say, becauseprior to Bronni d Nasis attent Tokoumpo,
Jannis's brother is the worst player inthe NBA. But he's like six'
eight, yeah, and he's like, okay, he is, but that

(20:44):
it's not like his son and Jannis, and it's just different. Lebron James
completely manufactured. And the thing thatpeople don't understand, at least Lebron doesn't
understand he's going to do more irrepableharm and disservice to his son in the
long run because he will now bea punchline and a joke. And I
wish Anders that this was the leagueprior, like in the nineties when the

(21:10):
Sonics were in town and where theKnicks with Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley and
those dudes, that Bronnie would comedown the paint because if I was Anthony
Mason may his soul rest in peace, or Charles Oakley, I would decapitate
him. I would literally, andI would love it because that's the way
you played no flagrant, no suspension, no fine, You go to the

(21:36):
you get two shots, and that'sit. That's the way you should go.
So it's just but that what's evenworse is when you get people like
a respected journalist like Woes Adrian Wardsand Rowski and Steven A. Smith,
who's about to get over one hundredmillion dollar contract. By the way,
have you even fathom that Stephen A. Smith will be higher paid than every

(21:56):
professional and major Power five college footballcoach or basketball coach in the world when
he signs his new deal. Yeah, that makes no sense to me.
I don't know. I haven't listenedto him in a long time, so
I don't even know what he's likeanymore. But yeah, right, no,
So there's that. Now, there'sa big anniversary coming up on Friday.

(22:17):
It's been eighty seven years this company'scelebrating, and I want to kind
of give a public service announcement outthere to everybody out there, because there
are a couple of locations in SeattleKrispy Kreme is celebrating. They're eighty seventh
anniversary. Okay, we know howgreat when that red light is on those
that hot fresh doughnut glaze, Sothey are offering anders an eighty seven cent

(22:42):
original glaze dozen with the purchase ofany dozen at a regular place. I
love it. The deals available forone day only this Friday tomorrow. I
love it. I absolutely love it. That's something. It's Krispy Crean's part
of my childhood. You mentioned kindof the garage and the the era in
Seattle's music. There there's a locationright down in Soto that I would always

(23:04):
go if we had like a daybaseball game. We'd always got a Krispy
Kreme before, get a coffee, get a dozen donuts with my family,
and guzzle those down. So thereyou go. You buy one at regular
Probably should get the other for eightyseven cents tomorrow Krispy Kreme. What is
better than that? All Right?Biggest Hits and Misses for Jerry Depoto plus

(23:26):
is it deadline deal or no DeadlineDeal? The Internet Show with Mark James
next on ninety three point three kJRTHM live from the R and R Foundation.
Specialists broadcast studio back to Ian Fernet'sPower Advice, Seattle's Closest Sportsbook,

(23:47):
snowp Call Me Casino on Sports Radioninety three point three KJR FM. Alright,
Mark James in for the Mayor ofMaple Valley in Fernas in Texas on
the Tullamore DO text line four ninefour five one. If you heard some
of the suggestions I made that, you know obviously we're this is you know,

(24:08):
we're we're thinking optimistic and positive thoughtshere people in the PNW that the
Sonics will hopefully be coming back,as Chris Daniels said, the earliest could
be and this is we're talking inall hypotheticals and theoreticals here the start of
the twenty twenty six or twenty twentyseven season. So if you want to
just your thoughts on that, Isaid Bob Myers, President Bastball Operations,

(24:30):
head coach Sam Cassell and assistant Comeon, we're near Beach High School.
One of the greatest three point shootersof all time, Jamal Crawford done a
great job by the way on TNT, much better than Reggie Miller. So
now biggest hits and missus for JerryDepoto anders Hurst. He was hired as
the GM of the Mariners prior tothe start of the twenty fifteen season.
So we're gonna go with the worstfirst December twenty fifteen, he traded three

(24:56):
prospects, including a guy by thename of Freddie Peralta, to the Jackey
Brewers in exchange for Adam Lynn.Lynn only played one season Seattle, while
Peralta has developed into one of thebest pitchers in baseball. And by the
way, he's even younger than you. Yeah, that's crazy to me thinking
about it. There's some major leagueplayers that are younger than me, considering

(25:17):
I'm a baby. Yeah, Imean, you're gonna have those trades where
you give up some prospects and theycould be something just trying to get a
bat into the lineup. That's kindof what you have to do. And
you can't really sign free agents inthis market. So yeah, I mean,
that's a definite miss for sure,because he's a borderline ace at this
point, no question. June twentysixteen, so we're talking his second year
on the job. For Jerry Depoto, he traded Chris Taylor to the Dodgers

(25:41):
for Zach Lee. Lean ever appearedin the majors with Seattle, Taylor has
been a consistent everyday player with theDodgers ever since, part of the World
Series title run in twenty twenty, even though I put an asterisk by it
because it was kind of like thatBubble title with the Lakers. Yeah,
when you win, you don't haveto pla any road games. I can't
count that. Yeah, so thatwas not a great one either from mister

(26:04):
de Podo. No, it wasnot. And I think that's one of
the ones that Seattle fans look backon and like Chris Tyler when he was
here wasn't amazing a hitter, butthen he instantly went to the Dodgers and
they developed into an everyday bat thatcould contribute at the top level. So
yeah, I don't know if youwould have been that here, but it
still seems like a loss. Sure. Twenty seventeen, he trade three prospects,
including Pablo Lopez, currently one ofthe best pitchers in all of baseball.

(26:29):
Two then they were still called theFlorida Marlins now Miami for David Phelps.
That didn't work. Yeah, no, not so great. It seems
like, man, we've had alot of the top pitching prospects recently and
they still have a bunch of themnow. So it's something they really like
to develop and then are able totrade for hopefully some quality baths later hasn't
worked out so far. No,not at all. This one hurts because

(26:52):
it was within the division. KendallGraveman to Houston mid season for Abraham Toro,
and well, now you could saywhat you want and say what you
will now of Kendall Graveman, buthe was basically instrumental in helping the Astros
get to the World Series in twentytwenty one. They did lose to the
Atlanta brace back then and then afterthat, so not one of his worst

(27:17):
misses, but certainly a miss nonetheless. Yeah, the bad thing about that
one is timing, because that wasright before the trading deadline in twenty twenty
one. The Mariners were vying fora playoff spot and they had just beaten
the Astros the night before with abig walk off win from Dylan Moore,
and literally the next morning it comesout that we trade Kendall Graveman, one
of our clubhouse guys who, yes, was on an expiring deal at the

(27:37):
end of the year, so hewas kind of a rental. To get
something back for him was kind ofdecent, but still the timing was not
great and it just didn't seem likethe clubhouse kind of deflated. After that,
no question. All right, we'regoing to go to the good part,
because Jerry to Pos's done some greatthings here too. Best trade twenty
seventeen, acquiring Marco Gonzalez, whospent seven seasons with Seattle and a pitcher

(27:57):
too from the Card in exchange forTyler O'Neill. Yeah it was pretty good,
right, Yeah, I I don'tknow, like Marc, I'd say
that's pretty close to an even trade. Tyler O'Neill, while he's been pretty
injury prone the few years he's beenin Saint Louis. Now he's on Boston
and kind of going off this year, but it just seems like you kind

(28:18):
of traded to get an ace,and Marco was never that ace for us,
And while we never really had thoseelite pitchers when he was on the
staff, it would have been niceto have a pretty thump, thumpy Tyler
O'Neill in that lineup, all right. Twenty eighteen Tredy Jean Sigura, who
was an all start at one point, not with Seattle, but I believe
he was with Seattle. Oh hewhat No, but I mean I don't

(28:41):
was he all starts? Yeah?Yeah? Yeah, anyways, all right,
fair enough relief pitcher won the Cassioand James Pazos in exchange for JP
Crawford and Carlos Santana. Big trade, great trade for in my opinion,
JP's been in everyday shortstop. JeanSigura was on the tail end of his
career. I think his last kindof good year was with Seattle to if
I'm going to be comple the honest, and he's really fallen off. JP's

(29:02):
a a great addition for that,so I love that trade. And of
course Luis Castillo, who's I believeon the mount tonight from getting in from
the Cincinnati Reds for Marte. Nowthe Reds one new number one prospect according
to MLB Pipeline shortstop Edwin Arroyo andLevi Stout along with Andrew Moore. But
I think that was a boom forJerry Pote, absolutely, especially considering the

(29:26):
fact that you signed Luis Castillo basicallyright after it. He was kind of
your ace for that season and shouldbe now not having his best year this
year, but the last two yearshe has been your ace and started Game
one for you in the Wildcard seriesagainst the Toronto Blue Jays, absolutely shut
them down, and that's kind ofone of the best pitching performances I've seen
in a while. Not to mention, Noelvie Marte, who you gave up,
has been suspended a year for PEDS, so it seems like you're giving

(29:49):
up a little bit less at thatpoint to get an absolute true ace on
the staff. All right, let'srun through this quick because we're up against
before Carl Ravage comes up at thetop of the hour and just over a
five minute. It's deadline deal orno deadline deal. I'm not gonna go
with Pete Alonzo and I'm not gonnago with vlad Guerrero. If that happens,
it's fantasy baseball great. How aboutChristian Walker free agent after this season?

(30:11):
With Arizona currently hitting two sixty fivetwenty two home runs in sixty five
RBI within eight forty five ops, would you do it? Absolutely? He's
having a really good year. Heseems like a super consistent guy. Not
to mention, plays great defense atfirst base. I think that's an upgradeable
position, and I wouldn't mind goingfor the rental piece, which means you
wouldn't have to give up a tonfor him. I heard an interview the

(30:33):
other day with Softy and Dick withformer Marlins president David Sampson, he actually
answered the question, I'm just gonnabring this name up, Jazz Chisholm,
who's who was on the front coverof MLB's The Show. He still has
three seasons left of team control. But the way David Sampson told Softy and
Dick, no way, bad lockerroom cancer. I'm paraphrasing here. Yeah,

(30:57):
So I'm gonna stay away from that, move on to that. I'm
gonna throw one more this team eventuallymoving to Vegas. The Oakland soon to
be Vegas A's JJ Blade two yearsleft a team control. After twenty twenty
four, he's got eleven home runs, thirty one RBIs, and his seven
to twenty seven ops tied for fourthin the AL and doubles with twenty two.

(31:18):
Yeah. I like that one alot. Probably again, not that
top end guy, so you probablywouldn't have to give up a ton maybe
nine of the top ten prospects. But I like that a lot because he
plays good defense as well, andhe doesn't strike out a ton. So
I think that's kind of the profilethat the Mariners need in their lineup.
So yes, all right, everybodyin the PNW has an opinion on the
Mariners and how bad their bats are. What does the voice of ESPN Sunday

I don't think so. Okay, all right, fair enough. And
the US men's team Fyer's head coachGreg Berhalter, how long were you waiting
for that? Big time at least? I mean, it's honesty, probably
two years too late, but I'mglad at least they did it now before

(34:37):
show. I am not the mayorof Maple Valley. He is out today.
My name is Mark James. Thatis Mark with a C James.
And you hear that music Sunday NightBaseball. Because we are honored and privileged
to be joined by the great playby play announcer and all around epic talent.

(34:57):
I believe he's spent there and CarlRavage. Carl, have you been
there. I think you're the secondlongest tenured broadcaster at ESPN, next to
Dick V. Tal Am. Iright on that. You know, I've
never actually looked up to see who'sbeen there a little longer. I know
that I rolled in there when SteveLeedy did and lived at Kohne did.

(35:22):
So we're all kind of we're allkind of bunched up. But it's been
three decades plus for all of us. What year did you start? May
of nineteen ninety three? Okay, yeah, your long tenure. You know
who's got you beat though, becausehe was doing Scholastic Sports America. Chris
Fowler. Chris Fowler does, Yeah, he does, he does. There's
a group of there's a group ofus that were there. I remember Fowler

(35:45):
did Scholastic Sports. Then I thinkhe actually left for a little bit and
then he came back, and obviouslyhe's been there and is as good a
broadcaster as we have. Ryce Daviswasn't long after, right, But like
I said, I remember Overnight SportsCenters with Linda and Steve Levy for sure,
which I was right in the SeattleWheelhouse. I mean that's what we
were doing those shows for Seattle LaWest Coast folks, no doubt about it.

(36:09):
And speaking of Seattle call ravage,we're looking at the Mariners right now.
Now this is kind of a firstworld problems because I'm gonna ask you
sort of a loaded question, what'swrong with the Mariners? But I only
mean in one through nine in thelineup, because pitching wise, they seem
to have solidified. Barring you know, blown saved by Stanica on Sunday against

(36:30):
Toronto, the pitching staff seems tobe pretty much solidified. But when you
look at this team, and Imentioned this is the top of the first
hour last, it hits last inbatting average in most strikeouts in Major League
Baseball? How can a team beso good on one side of the ball
and so bad on the other.Well, I mean, you look Crawford

(36:53):
Garver even to some extent Julio. You know, Raleigh's got the homers,
but the average that you know they'reall hitting two hundred. There's just not
a consistency in putting the ball inplay. They have a plus eleven as
far as run differential goes in theirfirst place, I think the Astros are
close to fifty, So that youknow that's the problem, and they're gonna

(37:13):
get caught. They know that. But the beauty of the trade deadline is
you get a shrewd general manager who'snot afraid to get out there and make
a deal. And they got tomake deals for offensive pieces and be willing
to part with some of the someof the young guys that they have in
their system. And if you haveto give up an arm to get another
arm out of bat, then youdo that. But again, beating Michael
King and the Padres too nothing yesterdayis that that's a dangerous way to live.

(37:37):
And it's worked so far for service, but they got to be way
more consistent because Houston is coming.I mean, that's for sure, and
I'm not quite sure having just seenthe Rangers what direction they're gonna they're eventually
going to go in. But theidea that the Mariners have in a sense
kept everybody in it. It doesn'tportend well for them. They could have

(38:00):
and should have, in my opinion, Mark been up by a hell of
a lot more than two games rightnow. I mean, the Astros all
but handed it to him in thefirst half, no question about it.
Carl Rabbits here on Sports Radio ninetythree point three KGRFM, Mark James here
with you. That's the thing I'mtalking about is that, and I brought
that up, Carl, is thatthe Astro season seems to have changed when

(38:22):
Dana Brown dfaed Joseah Brayu and sincethat moment, Carl, they're seventeen and
six. They went from ten gamesout on June fourteenth to two games out
today. So should Jerry Depoto maybekind of apply sort of that philosophy.
And I don't know. I'm lookingat Jorge Polanco thinking that maybe that would

(38:45):
be the thing that could perhaps givesome sort of addition by subtraction, because
he can't right now, to quoteto do the PG version of Tommy Lasorda
can't hit water if he fell outof a boat. Yeah. You know,
again, I don't think you throwa blanket over a move like that,
because I think a lot of otherthings happen. Their pain just had
a really good bounce back year forthem, consistently. Regmand definitely is improved

(39:08):
here as of late. You know, I think he had a couple of
hits at a homer the other night, So you know, they are getting
production from the people that they anticipatedgetting production from, who hadn't really produced
early in the season. Uh.I think you can look within, but
I clearly think you got to makea deal, and the addition by subtraction

(39:28):
sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Iwould focus more on adding as opposed to
just subtracting, thinking that may thenmotivate, you know, somehow lights and
fires under some people. I'm notcertain that that just because that worked with
one team, it's going to workwith another. I think they got to
add, and I think they havethe pieces to add. And it certainly

(39:51):
feels like there are enough guys outthere on teams, you know, that
are currently on the fence that youcould end up, you know, getting
and you you don't have to lookmuch further than somebody like Christian Walker.
You can certainly look across the countryand wonder what the Mets are going to
do, and if Peter Lonzo isa free agent, are you willing to
get young there? You know, the reality check that general managers and team

(40:15):
owners have to do is not onethey like to do. But that mirror
doesn't line. You got to bereal honest with yourselves as to what direction
you got to go in. KarlRavich, here, Carl, you mentioned
Christian Walker. We talked about himlast hour two and that would be and
he's a guy, he's a freeagent after this season, but certainly would
be worth no matter what you haveto give up. I'm gonna throw a

(40:36):
couple more names that you Jazz Chisholm. Yeah, yeah, Look, Jazz,
I mean, you know, toyour point, you don't necessarily need
somebody who's going to hit the ballover the wall. Ideally, you find
guys to get on base, andthen you have the guys hit the ball
over the wall, and you certainlyhave Julio in the middle. Look,
there have been swings and missus. It's hard to criticize going out and get

(41:00):
Mitch Garver after what it did forTexas and given him two years. Ty
Francis has not been not what weexpected him to be, but that wasn't
for lack of effort, you know. I remember it was Buck Showalter who
said, you know a lot oftimes in hindsight, managers, when you
look at the moves they made, just because they work doesn't really guarantee they

(41:20):
were the right thing. And ifthey don't work, it doesn't mean it
was the wrong move. A lotof the moves that were made were obviously
designed to make the team better andhit more consistently. That hasn't happened.
And it's not as if there havebeen one guy or two guys who have
struggled. There's it's sort of acollective offensive struggle and that's that's a problem.
But to your point about Chisholm, you know, having guys get on

(41:42):
base, it's so fascinating, Mark, Look look at our game last night.
We're in Philadelphia. The leadoff hitterslast night are Otani and Sharber.
We did Boston earlier. We didBoston earlier, and it's Jaron Duran,
who's a much more prototypical get onrun around the basis, let the guys
behind us knock us in. Sosort of there's no one way to skin

(42:07):
the cat anymore. And lineup constructionhas changed so dramatically. You looked at
that Phillies lineup last night. TreyTurner's leading off every day from here until
Kingdom Come a few years ago.He does, he bats in, you
know, he bats two, three, four now and Schwarber leads off.
So the idea that Jazz Chisholm isthe answer for everybody and is going to

(42:30):
get on and run. I thinkin Seattle's case, somebody like that makes
sense. I think a couple ofthose guys to get on base makes sense.
But you know, you can answerthe question what happened to Hora Plonko
It happens, And you know, like you said, it doesn't mean that
a GM is a genius when hehits, and doesn't mean he's an idiot

(42:51):
when he doesn't. One more name, I want to throw out your Carl
Rabbits JJ Bleda from the Oakland A'syeah, well, look, Rooker is
really good with Oakland. Blendet isyounger than Rooker. I think the other
part of what you hear a lotwith Jerry and every GM, and this
is a this is sort of asword that I hope you know they don't

(43:14):
all die on. But you know, you're very protective of the assets that
they drafted, and we're about tocome up on another draft, and teams
like to protect those. The Marinersare fairly fortified. The Orioles are in
another situation where they are so loaded. They have guys that should be playing
in the majors right now who can'tget on the field, but they absolutely
should be in the majors given theirabilities, and you wonder, you know,

(43:37):
in Jerry's case, in Mike Elias'scase, how reluctant are you to
part with the guys that you're soworried about may go and become a superstar
somewhere else, and who you tradefor may not be what you thought.
And I asked theo Epstein this yearsago, like, you're so good at

(43:57):
finding talent, why are you soreluctant to part with it when you know
you're going to go into a haystackand find more needles. You're good at
it. You know your scouting departmentis good at it. The idea that
we can't part with player X orplayer Y, I don't. I just
I never understood it. There arecertain organizations that do really well, and

(44:19):
the Mariners have a good farm systemright now. Just because you move one
or two or three players hardly meanslike you can't replenish it. And it
feels like the argument is we don'twant to give up on this guy or
we don't want to trade that guy. And I always interpret that, and
maybe there's an explanation from a generalmanager or a scouting director, but I
interpret that as it's so hard toreplace them, and yet historically it's not.

(44:45):
That's how teams are built. Youalways have the ability to replace them.
Your scouting department can go internationally, they can go to high school,
they can go to colleges. There'sa whole bunch of guys that were drafted
way down and turn out to begreat. This concept that we can't move
any of ours because we we're protective, we're so much in belief that we're

(45:08):
going to get hurt down the road. I just having not been in that
position, and maybe I'm not articulatingit properly, but I don't understand it.
Carl Ravits joining us from Sunday NightBaseball. This is Anderson Hurst along
with Mark James on Sports Radio OKAJR. Carl, it's one thing acquiring talent
and having the scouts to be ableto pinpoint which pieces can come and help

(45:30):
your team. It's another thing todevelop talent once you bring them into your
system. And we've seen countless examplesof hitters, specifically coming to this Mariners
system and really not playing to whatwe expect them to be or what they
have been in previous years. Andthere's this kind of overarching feeling that we
just need to go get someone atthe deadline to help fix this lineup,
which is one of the worst inbaseball right now. But I think,

(45:52):
honestly, is it more that theplayers that are here need to be playing
to the back of their baseball cardsor do you think there is one fix
all answer that they can get atthe trading deadline. No, I don't
think there's one fix all answer.I do think that, you know,
historically, we've always said everybody inthe sport has always said, especially about

(46:13):
a guy who is in his primeyears, you know, whether that's between
twenty five and thirty one, whereyou generally trust and should trust the baseball
card. They don't forget how toplay, like, for instance, guys,
I had this conversation with Aaron Booneabout Aaron Judge. When Judge started
the season terribly, everybody was worried. But when Judge got hot, it

(46:35):
became the question of is this thebest version of Aaron Judge? And when
I asked Aaron Judge during his hotstreak, like are you are you better
than you were? He kind oflooked at me, almost incredulously, to
suggest I'd better be better, Likewhat am I supposed to to stay flat?
Am I going to regress? Likeall of these guys are supposed to
get better? Last night, ChristopherSanchez is on the mound for Philadelphia.

(47:00):
He's gotten better. That was partof the conversation we had in the boot.
When you get a player, whethervia trade or a draft, and
they get into your system, dothey get better? Obviously there have been
franchises and organizations that have reputations wellearned because they have the ability to develop
pitchers. Baltimore, Tampa Bay forsure, Philadelphia more recently. So I'm

(47:25):
not suggesting that, and I'll behonest. Just going back to the College
World Series, Texas A and Mhad this pitching coach. His name was
Max Wiener. You guys familiar withMax Weener. Yes, Max Wiener was
used to be with the Seattle Mariners. He went to Texas A and M
to be their pitching coach. Heis a guy that developed pitching. That

(47:47):
team got all the way to theCollege World Series Championship series because the pitchers
that he had got better in hissystem. And I don't know the reasons
that Max left. I do believethat one of those is he felt he
had the ability to make a dramaticor more dramatic difference in the ability of

(48:09):
a kid coming into college and developingdifferent things and teaching than perhaps he did
at the major league level. Itmakes sense guys that are major leaguers feel
like they've done that already. Butmy goodness, with all the technology we
have, you do have the abilityto get better, especially in your prime,
and sometimes the coaching staff and theinstructions and all the messages that are

(48:32):
being delivered. Can take an offensiveplayer and make him better, can take
a defensive player and make them better, and certainly can take a pitching staff,
which Seattle has done remarkably well, and make them better. So I
don't think there's one guy that answersall those questions as far as bringing a
player in bya trade, But Ido think there's a whole To me,

(48:53):
it's a whole combination of factors thatwould go into an eventual success for Seattle,
but not a problem. They checkevery single box. Carl Ravit,
ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, Mark Jamesanders Hurst here with you on ninety three
to three KJRFM, and Seattle. You look at the Mariner's front office and

(49:13):
of course we talked about Jerry Depoto, Scott Hunter, justin Hollander. They
have built one of the best minorleague systems I believe. I think twelve
of the top one hundred prospects arein the Mariners farm system or twelve percent
something to that level, which isgreat. My question to you, Carl
is more on a macro level, not just with the Mariners, but just

(49:37):
the totality of Major League Baseball. How much, because your old school Karl
Ravage, how much is sabermetrics eitherruining or compromising the game? As you
mentioned your former colleague, one ofthe best managers in Major League Baseball every
time he was area's manager of theyear, like three times, Buck Showalter,

(50:00):
much as sabermetrics really affected the currentgame, and that it seems like
where this philosophy, where we know, in this situation we have to do
this instead of going with what youknow an old school managerkah Buck Sholwalter would
have done in yesteryear. Yeah,So here's just something for the listeners.

(50:24):
Go to the athletic website, lookup this story stack cast at ten from
MLB Secret Project to inescapable part ofmodern baseball. It's written by stephen nesbitt
Rusten DoD Nino Serros, and itliterally takes you from the concept of stack
cast all the way to where weare today. It is a fascinating read

(50:47):
and gives everybody who loves this gameof baseball like we do, the ability
to understand where we're at and howwe got here. It is phenomenal.
Stack Cast at ten from Major LeagueBaseball Secret Project to be inescapable part of
modern baseball. I no, there'snothing for me to gain other than to
let your audience read that because it'ssuch a good story and background on how

(51:13):
honest to God, two Brazilian guyswho never heard of baseball were at the
foundation of the development of stack cast. I rest for a second, so
to your point, you know,it's been interesting, And then I'm around
a lot of guys that have beenin the game for a long time.
The Aaron Boonez, the Rob Thompson'sfrom Last Night Service has been here forever.

(51:37):
I worked with Valentine and Dusty Baker, and Shoe Walter and Francona.
You know, I believe that thebest managers. Alex Korra to me is
at the top of the list hasthe ability to distinguish between becoming obsessed with

(51:58):
the saber metrics and the analytics andall the numbers and the other part of
a player's heartbeat, what's going onin the player's lives, how they have
to manage personalities and clubhoust culture, and there is a balance. And I
do believe, guys that it's tippedback a little bit. I really do.

(52:19):
I think there's no denying when youget into a pitching lab and you
can, honest to goodness, youshow a pitcher if you just move your
index finger this way by one eighthof an inch, you're going to increase
the pitch speed and it's going tobe more difficult and pitch spin for a
hitter to identify or hit. Itworks at some point. There are things

(52:43):
you can't argue. You can makeguys better by showing them those things,
but that doesn't mean when they goon the mound, because they're humans,
they're able to execute that every time. And then how do you, as
a pitching coach or manager manage theday when oh my god, I had
all the information, literally had theanswers to the test, but my dog
died and my mind wasn't right. How do you manage that day? And

(53:07):
that's that's what makes to me thatthe current manager great. And if you're
with an organization that insists on sabermetricsand design a lineup by a computer,
you're gonna run into problems. Idon't necessarily know how many organizations are like
that, but I know that thatmany managers now who have a voice don't

(53:30):
want to manage in those systems. They just don't. I mean, and
I couldn't have been happier for DustyBaker to win a World Series, but
it was quite clear that, youknow, he runs up against an organization
that is very very much in favorof using analytics, and it's hard to
knock them. They've built themselves asort of a dynastic organization that always seems

(53:52):
to be in it. But hewas wonderful at managing the room, and
they're there were decisions that I guarantee, I know people upstairs would would literally
roll over be like, what thehell are we doing? What is he
doing? Why is he using thisguy here? But he won, And

(54:14):
they'll tell you he won because ofthe players he had. He will say
I won because of the players Ihad for sure, but trust me,
some of the things I did madethose players better on certain days and that
also helped us win. I don'tknow if it answers your question. I
don't think ruling the game. Ithink there's a I think there is a
balance that I think is tipping. It's not crashing back the other way.

(54:36):
But I do think that there's amassaging of the message and how important it
all is, and how if youbreak this thing down into a pie,
how much of the percentage goes tothe numbers, the analytics, the saber
metrics, how much goes to thoseother things. Karl Ravitch, ESPN Sunday
Baseball cannot thank you enough for yourtime. You, Eduardo Perez and David

(54:58):
Kane the best broadcast on national telecastsin the game. Always look forward to
you, guys, and for everybodyin the PNW that just listened to your

else it too. Carl, thanksagain, Man appreciate it. Yeah,
Mark and Anders, thanks very much. I appreciate it. Good being on
with you guys. Absolutely all right. Coming up next, where does the

(55:22):
Seahawks quarterback room rank with the restof the NFL. Next on Seattle's local
Sports Leader ninety three to three kJRTHM Live from the R and R Foundation

right, Mark James in for theMayor of Maple Valley, Ian Fernas.
You can text us on the tolomorDo text line four nine four five one.
What did you think of the CarlRabbitsch interview? I thought he was
just awesome. He brought it Anders, he just brings it. Looking forward

(56:06):
having Charles Davis from the NFL andCPS coming up at the top of next
hour. So as we transition nowbecause the Seahawks, I believe two weeks
from today training camp starts. Yeah, that's correct. All right, here
we go. Let's go, let'sle lfg let's go. All right,
the quarterback room best and worst inthe league. I'm gonna go through the

(56:27):
quick top five in my opinion, just top five, and they want to
get to where the Seahawks rank NumeroUno three of the last five Super Bowls.
Anybody who says other than Kansas City, no way. This could be
a surprise to a lot of people. And I am all in anders Hurst
on the Houston Texans, specifically cJ. Straus number two, okay,

(56:52):
number two, number two. Listen. He was awesome in his first playoff
start against Cleveland and former Texans coreback to Sean Watson. I just think
his ceiling there is none, Thereis no ceiling. I've seen Josh Allen
in Buffalo. I've seen Lamar Jacksonand Baltimore. I've seen them come up

(57:12):
short in the playoffs year after yearafter year. And I'm going with the
Houston Texas. Now that being said, I mentioned Josh Allen in Buffalo.
I've got them three. Josh Allen'sthrown twenty one touchdowns as opposed to four
interceptions in the postseason. Those numbersare ridiculous. Yeah, he's a crazy
good postseason quarterback, which is weirdthat he can't seem to win the big

(57:35):
game. It seems like it's alwayssomething else that goes wrong though. Yeah,
I love this guy. But again, the best available, the best
ability in the NFL and any sportis availability. Number four Cincinnati with Joe
Burrow. Yeah, that's who it. I have his number two. I
hope his injuries really help him out, but I agree with you that the
injuries kind of scare me a littlebit. So yeah, yeah, dude,
you gotta stay on the field, bro, like you gotta stay on

(57:58):
the field. Number five. I'mgonna go with the two time league MVP
in the rain is Lamar Jackson.Unfortunately, I go with the I go
regular season Lamar, Yeah. PlayoffLamar's two and four and he's absolutely he's
just like he's playoff Lamar. Yeah. I mean there it is. The
thing Andrews, it's a different gamebecause, like I think, when the
script goes right for the Ravens,he's one of the best quarterbacks in the

(58:21):
league, and you could even arguehe's number two after Mahomes at that point.
But when you need a quarterback tokind of step it up, when
maybe the rest of your team isn'tplaying that well and you need to have
a game winning drive, He's notone of the top like kind of three
or four guys that I put onthere. All right, So what's round
out your top five? I stillthink Justin Herbert has a lot of a

(58:42):
really good upside. I still thinkthat a lot of what was going on
and his lack of winning is dueto the team around him. So I
would go Mahomes, Burrow, Allenprobably throwing CJ. Stroud at four,
and then Justin Herbert at five. All right, I'm gonna give you where
the Seahawks rank in the NFL.And by the way, I just want
to state for the record, Ithink John Schneider is one of the most

(59:05):
brilliant executives in NFL, not onlyover the course since he's been there,
I think perhaps overall in terms oftalent evaluation in the draft, in NFL
history. I'm gonna tell you rightnow, if if Tony Soprano was still
alive, rest in peace, JamesGANDALFIENI, if Suge Knight wasn't in prison
and they held a gun in myhead and they said, I'm gonna have

(59:27):
one guy to make a pick tosave your life or end your life.
Do you want John Schneider, BillBelichick, I'm going with John Schneider ten
days a week. Yeah, absolutely, I think John evaluation, Yeah,
he's the guy for sure, especiallyright love John Schneider, always have.
It was time for a change thatif Pete Carroll had a nice run of
fourteen years, I felt as thoughit might have been three or four years

(59:52):
too long. I doubt they're justmy thing. I felt like maybe the
message was getting lost in the lockerroom. The Seattle Seahawks have the twenty
sixth ranked quarterback room in the NFL. What do you think? I think
that's too low. Personally, Ithink they genus in terms of the quarterback

(01:00:13):
caliber player Like I just I thinkhe's in more middle of the pack guy.
I put him at like probably fourteenor fifteen right in a change.
Yeah, oh boy, are youdrinking that, Zach. I just here's
my thing. I know Gino Smithhas had this career resurrection, which is

(01:00:35):
like the Mickey Rourke in the Wrestlerfifteen years ago. He had this career
resurrection and all of a sudden hewas hot. I just you're waiting for
the next pick. I'm waiting forand Sam Howell, I don't hate it.
I don't love it, but Idon't hate it. I just don't
feel that the Seahawks in this division, I don't feel and even overall the

(01:00:58):
totality of the NFL, I don'tfeel like their QB room unless Sam Howell
can be the guy that he wasn'tin Washington, and obviously there's a lot
of reasons for that. I thinkGino Smith. I think Sam Howell will
be the starter by week six.Oh yeah, I completely disagree with that.
Geno's the starter through the end ofthis year. I think pretty yeah.
I have a couple of questions foryou. Do you take Gena Smith

(01:01:20):
over Baker Mayfield? Not? Notafter last season? Okay? What about
not after last season? Now normallyif you asked me that before last season,
yes, not after Baker Mayfield ledthe Bucks to the playoffs? Okay?
And then, uh, what aboutover Derek Carr? No question?
Take oh you take no? No, no, no, I take Geno?
Okay, Geno over Derek Carr.Okay, but Derek Carr. Listen,

(01:01:42):
look at Derek Carr's numbers since JohnGruden has no longer been his head
coach. Yeah, his play caller. They are garbage. Matter of fact,
I'm gonna even go you one further. I have New Orleans as the
third worst quarterback room in the NFL. Oh wow, okay, what about
Deshaun Watson. I have Deshaun Watsonjust because of all the money they paid

(01:02:05):
him, and he did make theplayoffs last year. Granted, arguably the
best defense in the NFL. Ihave Deshaun Watson above Geno Smith. But
I'm not in law. This isnot Houston DeShawn anymore. No, it's
not one more for you. KylerMurray. Wow, boy, he is
he? It's amazing based on sheertalent ability, Kyler Murray, I think

(01:02:28):
he's taken some step backwards obviously thepickup of Marvin Harrison and what they've done.
I'm still I have to go thetalent superseeds. Yeah, I can't
get New York Jets Gino Smith outof my mind. Yeah that's fair.
I can't now, No, didGino Smith have a bet? Like?
I'll even throw you one further.Okay, Statistically, who had a better
regular season last year? Russell Wilsonor Gino Smith. Russell Wilson had a

(01:02:51):
better statistics season, but it's stillhe's not the same quarterback as he used
to be. And I still believeGino Smith gives you a better chance to
win every single day. Especially Ithink having a new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb
this year we saw what he didwith Michael Pennix that you Dubb. I
think that takes him to another level. Ryan gret and that is that is
a great hire. I do likethat, you know. And here's another

(01:03:14):
thing too, new coach new system. It sometimes it doesn't just you know,
it doesn't materialize right away. AndI and I know Softie's a big
U Dub Huskies fan. I'm ahuge Jetfish fan. Yeah, but you
know, like Will Rogers is notPetnix and he's not he and he doesn't
have a top ten wide receiver,a second round wide receiver in Jalen Polk

(01:03:35):
and a third round wide receiver andJalen McMillan that is gone. So it's
not the twenty twenty three Washington Huskies. I don't want to get off subject
there, so I will tell youafter Seattle, I've got Cleveland, even
though I just told I will takeDeShawn Watson above him. But I but
I think Seattle has a better room. Okay, I like that. Okay,

(01:03:55):
I like that twenty eight Denver Ibone he's got busted written all over.
Absolutely. That's kind of how Ifeel with JJ McCarthy as well.
And I mentioned I'm gonna give Carolinathe benefit of doubt that Bryce Young his
first year was an anomaly. Sobut I've got them. Twenty nine.
You mentioned Derek Carr New Orleans thirtyIf they're backup, is Spencer Rattler named

(01:04:19):
Peterman, some guy named Jake Aynerthirty one. I'm gonna go with the
loss Vegas Raiders, Gardner Minshew andAidan O'Connell and dfl. Wow, you
would never said this over the courseof the well, let's just say the
previous twenty of the last twenty fouryears, the New England Patriots. Yeah,

(01:04:44):
it's pretty hard to argue that thatis the case because you never know
what Drake may is gonna be.But yeah, I hope he's good.
But yeah, we'll see what endsup happening. Jacoby Brissett. They're talking
he might be starting by week one. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised that
Drake Mayd's to learn behind someone. He didn't really seem like he was that
polished of a prospect, so heneeds to kind of shure it up a
little bit. All right, doyou know your enemy coming up next to

(01:05:53):
I Here's what I'll say. Ithink maybe I could have ranked it
a little bit lower, But Ithink that Anders definitely ranked it way too
high. So maybe there's a middleground there that we can So now I
want to do this thing called knowyour Enemy. Where in the NFC West?
Obviously you know the best in theWest A team that bridesmaids, not

(01:06:15):
brides but the San Francisco forty nineers. I mean, let's just yeah,
I hate him. I hate himtoo. I hate everything California except
for Steph Curry, who I loveand I know ian Ian Loves who was
Steph Curry's backcourt mate with the SplashBrothers Klay Thompson, who's no longer They
are now at Dallas Maverick. Thatbeing said, uh, the San Francisco
forty nine ers over under eleven anda half wins, which is the most

(01:06:40):
in the NFL by the odds makers, with the Kansassee Chiefs minus two hundred
to win the West. They signwide receiver Jwan Jennings to a two year
contract extension. Drafted Ricky Pearsall withthe thirty first overall pick. Brandon Ayuk
is like taking open He's trying toget dealt in the media. He wants
it. He'll go any where hewants to get paid. Anders Day bringing

(01:07:02):
Brandon Staley, former Chargers coach,is to be the assistant head coach and
the defensive coordinator Nick excuse me onthe defense. Nick Sorenson's the new DC,
replacing Steve Wilkes, and kJ Wrightis coming in as a defensive quality
control coach. They released Eric Armstead, who was with the team for nine

(01:07:23):
seasons. Shosh Dopps comes in asthe backup to Brock Purty. I would
say the more things change, themore they stay the same. The San
Francisco forty nine Ers over the courseof the last well recently since Kyle Shanahan
has been there, they're kind oflike the Houston Astros where they're gonna be
in the playoffs come January. Yeah, both of those teams are massive of

(01:07:45):
Seattle rivals, so it does notmake us happy. I'm curious to see
what they're gonna be in the nextcouple of years. Because brock perty is
on one of the cheapest deals inthe NFL for a starting quarterback right now,
they're gonna have to pay him comenext year. Would you give Bran
Brandon Ayuk the money that he's lookingfor because he's been the best receiver in
the last two years. No,No, I would not, only because
in the draft, and I dotrust John Lynch except for the fact and

(01:08:06):
nobody likes to mention this. Intwenty seventeen, the San Francisco Forta Niners
were sitting on the clock with anumber two pick. They traded back,
so the Bears went up to twoto draft Mitch Trubisky. Even that being
said, they basically got a hugehaul in return, but they took Solomon
Thomas over to Shaun Watson, andyou could say, oh, no,

(01:08:28):
no, no, here's the kicker, Patrick Mahomes. Yeah exactly. And
then wasn't it a couple of yearslater that they gave up a bunch of
that haul to trade up to getTrey Lance too, right, Yeah,
so they can get everything right exceptfor the quarterback position. I like Rock
Perdy. You're not a fan,all right? Another team I hate in
California everything La the Rams over undereight and a half wins. Ooh no

(01:08:50):
more Aaron Donald, he retires,Matthew Stafford's getting older, he wants a
new contract. By the way, there could be perhaps QB controversy. Jimmy
g Jimmy Garoppolo will be there now. He suspended for the first two games
for violating the NFL's ped policy. So there's that. But I'm going under

(01:09:13):
I don't have any faith in theRams, and I think the Seahawks will
definitely be better than Sean mcvay's team. I agree for once, it's just
the Sean mcvaanffac's real he would alwaysout coach Pete Carroll, and I think
I'm really interested to see what MikeMcDonald does, but also the Aaron Donald
effect was real. He was onewho always would destroy the Sahawks offensive line.
That combinedent You mentioned earlier with JoeBurrow that the best of ability is

(01:09:38):
availability for quarterbacks. Matthew Stafford's beenpretty hurt the last couple of years too,
so I'm interested to see how thatworks out. And maybe that's why
they kind of took a flyer onJimmy Garoppolo. Yeah, let's get to
the beloved Seahawks. The end ofa Pete Carroll era. Mike McDonald,
Hello, he is in after thePete Carroll era ended after fourteen years.
Former Washington Huskies O Ryan Grubb willnow fill the same position at OC and

(01:10:03):
Cowboys D line coach Aiden durd witha great accent from the UK, will
be the new DC, even thoughwe all know that Mike McDonald will be
calling the place to the Green dot. On defense, Jay Harbaugh comes in
as the new special teams coordinator.Jim Sun Jamal Adams, who just signed
with Tennessee is gone. Qandre Diggsis gone. Ray Shawn Jenkins very underrated

(01:10:25):
signing. I like it certainly bringsa lot you got Julian Love who played
the team last year. They're boththe projected starters. And of course Jerome
Baker comes in from the Miami Dolphins. And let's last but not least,
Sam Howell in the trade with Washington. So I like the Seahawks offseason obviously,
you know in the draft. Imean, nobody's better in the business

(01:10:46):
than John Schneider. The over underon the Seahawks seven and a half wins.
Listen, I'm not telling you tobet your kids' future college tuition,
but I'm telling you that if Ihad a child, I would be bettering
their future call tuition. Way over, yeah, way over way. The
Seahawks will win ten games and willmaybe not nine to ten within that range,

(01:11:10):
and they will be back in theplayoffs this year. Completely agree.
I'm excited to see what they do. I think the defensive upgrades are going
to be massive, But the big, big question mark is the coaching staff.
You have a new offensive coordinator,a new defensive cordner, and a
new head coach. So we'll seewhat happens. All right, Cardinals over
under seven and a half wins. Some surprise, the odds makers in Vegas
have them that much Kyler Murray.Obviously, they get Marvin Harrison Junior with

(01:11:33):
the fourth overall pick. They tradedRondell Moore to Atlanta for Desmond Ritter,
who will be Kyler Murray's backup.I don't have any faith. I think
this is about a six win team. Yeah, I don't know. Jonathan
Gannon kind of out because remember goinginto last season, they were like a
bunch of jokes like, oh mygod, it's gonna be the worst team
in the NFL. They actually hada couple of quality wins last year,

(01:11:55):
so they could be a wildcard thatbeat some good teams. But I still
don't think they're going to be likeone of the best teams in the NFL
by any means, and probably theworst in the NFC West. Again,
I want to repeat Seahawks nine orten wins, second place in the division
back in the playoffs. How manywins for the Seahawks were you? I
think you have it right. Ithink about ten is going to be a
good bet for them. I wouldhad that seven and a half numbers way

(01:12:16):
too low. I would have goneeight and a half or nine and a
half. In terms of the overunder, it would have been a lot
harder for me to take the over, but it's an easy over for me
for sure. All Right, whatis Charles Davis from the NFL on CBS

Two weeks from today, your belovedSeattle Seahawks will start training camp in
the PNW. We can't wait. It's gonna be unbelievable. Charles Davis one
of the best, if not,in my humble opinion, the best football
analyst on the planet. Part ofthe number one tandem in the NFL.

(01:16:24):
He and I and Eagle the NFLon CBS. Sorry, they should be
the number one team. I amsaying that nobody else. I think a
lot of people would agree with meon that they're the best in the business.
Charles Davis joins us right here, right now. Charles, always a
pleasure to talk to you. Pleasureis mine. Good to talk with you,
gentlemen. How are you to deck? We're doing great so as we

(01:16:45):
are two weeks away from the SeattleSeahawks start of training camp. And I
told you this the other day,Charles, when I talked to you and
we kind of we did a segmenton Seahawks QB room of thirty two teams
in l where would you rank itwith Gino Smith, Sam Howell and PJ.
Walker, you know, without givingan exact number, somewhere around the

(01:17:10):
middle of the pack, you know, without without just like totally diving into
it. I'm looking forward. I'mlooking forward to seeing Gino with this new
you know, with Ryan Grubbs andthe new offense and seeing how things go
there. Those receivers on the outside, Jackson Smith and Jigba. I have
a feeling this year whatever, youknow, when he goes out for a

(01:17:31):
pass, he will actually catch theball more than five yards downfield, because
when we saw them and I watchedthem during the year, I feel like
every time he caught the ball wasfive yards are closer to the water and
scrimmage, I'm like, I thinkhe ran deeper routes when I saw him
in college, and I know thatbecause DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett take up
from real estate, but they don'ttake up every bit of the field.

(01:17:54):
So it's kind of surprised me alittle bit watching last year and again without
being in their room, without beingin their and understanding everything they were doing.
I just thought, there's got tobe more distance for him, you
know. So we'll see how thingsgo with that. Obviously they have the
runners. They've they listen, they'veJohn shonever have been addressing that offensive line
for a while, continue to doso. Now. There was some losses

(01:18:15):
obviously with Haines going something you know, going to Carolina, But all in
all, I'm excited to watch that. Sam How's an interesting case study because
he really is a polarizing figure whenyou sit down and talk with people,
remember him coming out of college.Prior to him being drafted, prior to
his last year in North Carolina,we were projecting him as the first second
round guy at a minimum, righthe was gonna go and be top part

(01:18:40):
of the deal. When he endedup going in the fifth round, I
think it was a surprise to everyoneand it's one of those mysteries of the
NFL Draft that sometimes you just likeif you went and asked every GM,
how'd Sam Howell go in the fifthI don't know that they'd ever be able
to give you a great answer. It's just kind of like shrugged their shot,
you know what happened? Sometimes becauseI his last year in North Carolina,

(01:19:00):
he did some of his best workwith less talent around him, and
it's almost like yet dinged by it. I'm not quite sure why he had
to run the ball more. Hedidn't have, you know, the receivers
on the outside that he'd had previously. But then he played last year,
took a ton of hits, asyou guys well know, through a lot
of passes, and now gets anotherchance here depending on what happens with Gino

(01:19:24):
and off he goes. So alot of people like what Sam Howells offered
so far, obviously because he wentin the fifth round. Other people don't
see it that way. Again, was it a fair test last year in
Washington? Fair in some sense? How many times he got hit in the
pocket. That doesn't make it fairin other senses, that's for sure.
So I like what they have topresent. It'll be interesting to see how

(01:19:46):
it goes from there. Charles Davishere on ninety three three KGRFM, Seattle
local sports leader. The end ofan era, the Pete Keayler era for
fourteen years in the start of MikeMcDonald. Charles, there's been two huge
eras that just ended, and therewas one all the way across the country
that ended that It was even longerthan the Pete Carroll era. With Bill

(01:20:08):
Belichick now and to Rod Mayo startingfor him. But let's concentrate on the
Seahawks. It will there be atough transition with Mike McDonald or do you
think you would be somewhat seamless.I think much more on the seamless side
than a tough transition. And I'mglad you brought up New England, Bill

(01:20:30):
Belichick going out, drive Mayo takingover. Here's one similarity, and it's
one of those odd ones in theNFL, because how many times have you
watched, no matter who that coachis, when he goes out most teams,
most teams higher. I'm not gonnasay the direct opposite, but the
flip side of what that person was, right a players coach, Ah,

(01:20:50):
we need more discipline here that goget a hammer, a hammer that's lost
his team. We gotta go geta coach that relates to players. Oh
we had an offense. We hadan offensive guy. Here, boy,
we're really struggling. Go get adefensive guy. You see what I'm talking
about? Yep. Well, inNew England you had a defensive guy,
fall defensive guy, and in fact, a defensive guy who played for the
man that he's following, who wasknown by his teammates as Little Bill because

(01:21:15):
he was so to in tune withBelichick. He would sit in the defensive
coaches for meetings and things of thatnature, and ran the whole defense as
a youngster there. So it's nosurprise he has said and became a head
coach. But how often do youbecome the head coach following the legend and
you both have your expertise on thesame side of the ball. Flip it
over to Seattle. Pete Carroll defensiveside of the ball, guru, upbeat

(01:21:39):
players, coach the whole thing. Now, Mike McDonald doesn't carry himself the
way Pete does. But let's behonest, guys, who does, right
Pete Carroll? Right? Pete Carrollis the Benjamin Button of coaches for us.
Right, every time I saw him, I say, my god,
how old is Pete again? BecauseI could still see Pete going two on
two, three on three into basketballcourt is still schooling you. So it's
a little bit different. McDonald's youngenough that the relating to the players you

(01:22:04):
know, was in was coaching collegefootball not terribly long ago. I think
that that part makes it work prettywell for them, So I don't see
it as being a major transition atall. There's always that breadth of fresh
air when a new coach comes in. There's always the players that were competing
for jobs that now, hey,the door is open again. I can
compete again as opposed to the oldstaff saw me a certain way. You

(01:22:28):
see where I'm going with this. The competition gets ratcheted up, and I
find that interesting because the competition isone of Pete's bylaws. You know,
that was one of his major words, right, what was it competition Tuesday
or whatever? It was in practice? So off you go again. But
I like Mike McDonald's obviously he's notPete, but the expertise on the same
side of the ball, the wayhe can relate to players, I think

(01:22:49):
is very similar Charles Davis from theNFL on CBS here, Mark James anders
Hurst on Seattle Sports Leader ninety threepoint three kJ are Charles, and we
talked about that. I've got toask this question just to kind of put
a bow. Obviously, Pete Carrollgoes without saying the most successful coach in

(01:23:12):
franchise history. I have to thisis a hypothetical question because I bet you
everybody in the PNW is wondering thisas well, and I wonder it too.
And we talked about New England becauseI've also talked about where I was
actually at that game with my father. May his soul rest in peace.
We were at the tuck rule game. Okay, okay, we were there
when the referees completely If that calldoesn't get made, I think the Raiders

(01:23:39):
go to Pittsburgh next week, theybeat Cordell Stewart and the Steelers, they
go on the Super Bowl. I'mnot saying they beat the Rams in the
Super Bowl. I don't think theywould have. But does Drew Bledsoe become
the starter next year? Do wenever have the goat as it felt?
So what I'm asking you is this, if Darryl Bevill and Pete Carroll gave
the ball to Marshawn in twenty fourteenother twenty fourteen Super Bowl against the Patriots,

(01:24:04):
and the Seahawks win that game. How do you think that would have
not only changed the trajectory of PeteCarroll's status amongst the greatest coaches in NFL
history, but also you go backto back the Seahawks and maybe Brady and
the Patriots don't win three more afterthat. Right, it's such a great

(01:24:27):
question. You know, I've beenlistening on you know, we're all I
think the whole country's in the podcastnow, right. I mean you started
with COVID, but by the way, except for me, I do not
have one. Okay, what I'msaying, I don't have one either,
so I tell you in that. But what I'm saying is COVID. We
all started listening to podcasts, andpeople started having their own podcast and like,
you know, we gotta do somethingto pass the time. And a

(01:24:48):
good number of them hit, agood number of them did not, but
they are we are flooded with themeverywhere. Right. So I started listening
to Bill Simmons The Unwatchable, TheRewatchable, where he goes back he and
his crew, and it's constantly changingcast and they watch movies and they go
back and they do stuff. Youknow it and it's fun to listen to.
For me, I really enjoy it. And they have you know,

(01:25:10):
they have different categories they go throughon just about everyone, and one of
them is called unanswerable questions, andthey go through the movie and go aftern
we answer this, what do youthink happened here? What do you think
happened there? That question just answerasked. We know it's an unanswerable question,
but we all have looked at itand and I think we'd all be
lying. In the NFL, wedidn't say to ourselves exactly what you said.

(01:25:32):
What if Marshaun Lynch takes the footballin scores? What if Seattle wins
the game? What if they goback to back? And now Pete Carroll's
in a different pantheon as a headcoach because we all know winning one Super
Bowl is phenomenal, but once youget to two, it's a whole different
look at who you are and alot of that probably cements you as a

(01:25:54):
Hall of famer. Like think aboutwhere Andy Reid is right now, unassailable.
Andy Reid want to race coach NFLhistory. Before he won that Super
Bowl, the second Super Bowl inKansas City, that's all anyone talked about.
It was, Oh, God,Andy Reid, you know that he's
won one? Is he a Hallof Famer? I was like, God,
look at his record, Yes heis. But when he won the

(01:26:15):
second one, that question went away. It was done. So yes,
that's part of it. Here's thesecond part of it for me, Pete
Carroll, Russell Wilson in their relationshipgo bing gote Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll
and his relationship with his defense whowas really ticked off about that play call
to where years later after they saidthey'd all settled everything, are screaming at

(01:26:41):
him. Run the football. Anytimeyou're inside the five yard line. You
see where I'm going. So toyour point, they go back to back
if they win it. Do wethink that there's a third or fourth out
there for Seattle? I'd say yesI do, because that team, to
me, the psyche was never healed. I'm not saying that it corrupted them
totally from winning super Bowls, butit never healed. And if anyone's gonna

(01:27:05):
tell me that it did, thenI'm going to pull up the film and
go, well, why is RichardSherman yelling at him to run the football?
Why are there these comments in thepaper all the time about different things?
Why why do we hear all thisstuff about the defense not happy with
Russell being their quarterback. We goon and on about that, And the
guys would be able to tell meyay or nay on that. All I'm

(01:27:25):
telling them is, guys, thisis what I've watched observed Red Herd.
If you're going to tell me somethingdifferent, then then then so be it.
I would I would listen to themand have them tell me. But
you guys know that that was adifferent vibe from that moment on. It
was a different feel for that footballteam. It changed everything. So so
will the trajectory change? Do allthese things go again? Unanswerable questions,

(01:27:48):
But you have to believe a backto back Seahawks team that won that way
and slayed New England in a heckof a football game. That's almost what
gets lost in that great game.It was. Yeah, you'd have to
think that this team has a chanceto accumulate and get more, would they?
We don't know that would in NewEngland bounced back potentially put me who

(01:28:11):
knows. But at the same time, now you're back to back and the
outlooks entirely different on your football team. And Charles Davis from the NFL and
CBS here on sports radio KJR ninetythree three f M. Charles, it
not only that at that moment.Let's just say we're in a parallel universe
here that had the Seahawks gone donethe right thing and gone I'll tell you

(01:28:34):
right now, like, there's athere's a lot of certainties that we could
never ever like what if this? What if that? I know for a
like, I would be willing tobet everything, not my life, but
everything that Marshaun Lynch was not beingstopped at the goal line. Okay,
listen, that's everyone felt. Youknow, he gets the ball, he

(01:28:55):
would have had what probably two cracksat it. I just feel like everyone
felt the same thing. Remember,Bill Belichick took an amazing gamble on the
other side by never calling the timeouts. Yep. Now let's now, let's
say Lynch breaks through and scores thetouchdowns. The immediate flip and postgame is,
hey, genius, Bill Belichick, you don't use your timeouts there in

(01:29:17):
case they score and have time foryour offense. You see how that flips
now, because what happened was hedidn't use the timeouts and was able to
say, I watched the sideline overthere, they looked a little in disarray.
I thought that, you know,we did holding the holding the fort
was the best move there. Ididn't want to call timeline, give him
a chance to regroup. And boys, you look like a flat out genius.

(01:29:38):
And I'm not saying he's not.Okay, I'm not saying that he
didn't observe all those things. Butlet's just be honest about it. Winch
scores. Time's run down now andhe never used the time and he never
used the timeouts. Right now, guess what here, guess what. Here's
here's the ball. Good luck NewEngland and Seattle's gonna win that football game.
And we as a media are nowgoing to that press conference. Coach,

(01:30:02):
quick question for you. Yeah, and by the way, I'm sorry
that of course, like what coachwould have loved that. But but but
but you know how it goes, too. Fortune favors the bold, and
he made a very bold decision inthe moment, which is part of great
coaching. We're better off not usingthem here. I feel like they're not

(01:30:26):
quite organized over there. Blah blahblah blah blah. And guess what,
History's recorded that he was correct becausethey came up with a play call,
they were able to get it.And of course in the folklore, we've
seen the video of the practice film, they were ready for this play.
Knock, the butler makes the playand off we go. So all you
can do is a plug Belichick inthat moment. But you're talking about if

(01:30:46):
this had happened, if that hadhappened, think about it. You flip
it around now Lynch scores. We'reall asking how do you not use your
time outs? There? Right? And and you know what there and then
the Seahawks are possibly going for repeatCharles, we're up against it. I
just want to ask you this inless than thirty seconds. I want to
get this in the University Washington Huskiesmade a home run higher after losing Kaitlin

(01:31:10):
to Bor to Alabama. That's atough loss. They nailed it with Jetfish.
Jetfish is an unbelievable play caller. He had a ten win season last
year at Arizona. They Washington lostten picks in the NFL Draft, tying
a school record going back when thedraft moved to seven rounds in nineteen ninety
four, including of course Pennix. They lost a top ten pick and Roma

(01:31:31):
Dunza a second round pick, JalenPolk to the Patriots a third round pick,
and Jaylen McMillan. Not to mentionguys all over the board, where
do you think in year one ofthe Big Ten? They have the toughest
schedule in the Big ten? Howdo they fare in near one less than
thirty seconds? Yeah? I thinkthey fare pretty well because Jetfish what he

(01:31:55):
did at Arizona. Go back andlook at Arizona before he took over,
and look what he built in Plus, as you guys know, Jed Fish
was a hot name ten twelve yearsago. Yeah, that never ascended to
that level that we thought he wasgoing to. For whatever reason, he's
there now. And last thing Iwould say to you transfer portal, folks.
The transfer portal is powerful. Getthe right people, identify them,

(01:32:17):
plug them in and go. Andright now, Washington's got to recruit at
the same level as Oregon, whichis recruiting at a really high level.
And let's face it, neither oneof them likes each other very much.
And now they're going to the Bigten. But I think Washington's a program
that will fair just byd traditionally goodand they've got a good guy right there
running it. Now. I seethem competing well. Okay, Charles Davis,

(01:32:39):
the NFL and CBS, my friend. Always a pleasure to talk to
you, and I can't wait foryou and I in the best tandem in
the NFL by far and away. For all the games that you do.
No, we appreciate it. Thankyou very very kind, and continue success
to you guys. Keep knocking themdead. Talking to you, got it,
Charles Davis, right here, texts, We got a text in on

(01:33:00):
the Tullamar two text line Anders andI will get to that next four nine
four five one right here on SportsRadio ninety three point three k j r
f M, Seattle's local sports leader.
