We're hoping to see something better this week than what
we saw last week was Seattle. That was that was
no fun, man, that was that was not a good
not a good showing by Seattle. We talked about some
of the things that could jump out and you know
what Josh Allen's able to do and different things, but
I don't know, it seemed like a comedy of errors
for the Seahawks against the Bills last week.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Greg, Yeah, I mean, look, you know, that's one of
those games where it's easy to look at what happened
in the red zone twice when they got down there
and say that, hey, the game would have been different,
and maybe it would have been. You know, those are
the things you never know. But clearly they struggled.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
With the passing game. They struggled with the run defense
as well.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Obviously, you know, defensively, was probably not the performance Mike McDonald.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Was looking for. You know, I thought that the Bills
did a really good.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Job attacking the zone coverage of the Seahawks, and that'll
be interesting this week because obviously the Rams are a
very good pass game as well, and now that they
have a Nakua back and cut back. You know that
changes the dynamic of the game. But yeah, last week
they struggled with in their own coverage concepts and Alan
(02:12):
was able to, you know, kind of pick him.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Apart a bit.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I want to go back to the defense in a second.
But there has been a lot of talk this week,
Greg about Gino Smith and you and I have talked
about Gino now for the last three three years.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I guess, yeah, and what we've seen and it feels.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Like with Gino and but this is I want to
know what you're seeing on film with Gino. It there's
either really good Gino or what we saw kind of
last week. And how would you as you're evaluating quarterbacks
around the league and you're talking to personnel guys, but
you're watching the film of every quarterback pretty much every week,
how would you evaluate and what would your evaluation be
(02:49):
of Gino Smith?
Speaker 5 (02:51):
I would say that when all's said and done, Geno
Smith is really an executor and a ball distributor, and
he needs a complete.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Offense to be effected.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
And you know, one of the changes they've made this
year is a ton of eleven personnel. Now the last
number of years with Shane Waldron. As you know, they
played a ton at a twelve personnel, even at times
thirteen personnel. That changes the way defenses play you. It
changes their personnel and it changes their alignments.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Gino is a.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
Is a what's the best way to describe it, because
people tend to think of words and that mean things
that I don't mean them to be.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
You know, I hate to say he's a system.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Quarterback or a facilitator because that makes it seem like
he's not a good player. But at his core, he
needs a complete, multi dimensional offense. Okay, in order for
him to be most effective. The Seahawks, as you and
I have discussed and both know as fans know as well,
have not been able to run the ball with any
efficiency and meaningful production. Okay, they average only twenty one
(03:55):
carries per game. It's the second lowest total in the league.
These kind of things, beginning with the fact that they're heavy, heavy,
eleven personnel. These kinds of things, to me impact in
a negative way what Gino is as a quarterback. So
again I'm not This is not a rip on the
coaching staff. I'm not there, so I never rip coaches
(04:17):
I don't do that because you have to be there
for the process.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
But to me, at his core, he's he's basically a
ball distributor.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Now does he have some mobility yet, But we're not
going to sit here and say he's a creator and
he's going to make special plays with his legs. He's
a pocket quarterback. So you know, everything has changed and
they have no run game.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, and that's that's kind of what I wanted to
ask you, because you know, when you say, so, let's
do a comparison. You know, when you say, you know,
he's got to have all those facets to you know,
to be at his best and most effective. And and
that would be in comparison to is it say? I mean,
I guess the gold standers Patrick Mahomes where he can
make do if the running game's not going, then he
can carry him on the shoulders or what have you.
(05:00):
How would you compare like and just not Gino necessarily,
but how you describe Gino with say a quarterback that
doesn't have those same traits that's that's maybe considered to
be a better quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Oh, I mean, you know, I guess you know, if
you're talking about the top quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
I imagine that that the list would be Mahomes, Alan Lamar.
People would still put Borrow in that category because of
the nature of his traits. You know, Like here, I
think an example that maybe is not exact, but I
think it fits is Jared Goff. Now, Jared Goff's a
really good thrower of the football, ye and and I
(05:39):
love Jared Goff, And I think he has high, high
level timing and anticipation, and that's a really well schemed offense.
But you know, I think that you know, they've got
a run game, They've got a big time run game
with two backs, and you know that really really helps.
Plus they play a lot. They can line up with
eleven personnel, they can line up with twelve personnel. Sometimes
(06:01):
they play with six to zero linemen. You know, I
think all those things factor in to how a quarterback plays.
Who's essentially a pocket quarterback, which GoF is, and which
essentially Gino is. Gino doesn't have all those elements.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
That makes all the sense in the world.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Because I'm looking at as you're talking about Jered Goff,
I'm thinking, Okay, he's got a very good offensive line.
He's got Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery. Right, So he's
got everything around him to be successful. And as you're
describing that with Gino, Gino may even have better I
don't know, it feels like he might even have better
arm talent saying GoF but similar to style quarterback, and
(06:39):
but Gino doesn't have those same things. He certainly doesn't
have the same offensive line. He certainly doesn't have the
same running attack.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Right. No, and the arm talent is quite you know,
God's pretty good thrower at the football.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
But anyway, what's what's flitting hairs there? But the point
is is, you know their pocket quarterbacks, you know, and
and pocket quarterbacks tend to need as good as they
can be. You know, you can't start comparing people.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
To Drew Brees and Tom Brady.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
I mean, they're you know, Brady's the best ever.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Breeze is a first ballot Hall.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Of Famer, So you can't make those kinds of comparisons.
We're talking stylistically what a quarterback is. Okay, even Dak Prescott, Okay,
Dak Prescott at this point his career is essentially the
same thing. He's an executor and a ball distributor, and
they're up and down every week because they have no
run game and their defense has been incredibly soft, and
they give up a ton of yards in the run
(07:27):
game on defense. So you know, these guys like that
they need team. You know, every quarterback theoretically does. I mean,
even look at the Chiefs this year. You know, they
become a really good running team. Spags, you know, is
a great decoordinator to their defense is great. You know,
Mahomes this year has more interceptions than touchdowns, although they're
still great on third down. They're among the best in
(07:49):
the league on third down conversions where Mahomes factor is
so difficult to defend. But you know, Gino needs these
kinds of things, and if he doesn't have them, he's
going to appear to be an up and downer radic player.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Makes all the sense in the world. I think that's
a great way to look at it.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
All right, So what are we looking at as far
as the Seahawks this week and Gino uh taking them?
By the way, I should mention to you, Anthony Bradford
will start at right guard and they're not going to
rotate him and Haines. I should point that out that was.
They did say that this week, so they're going to
try to go with a little more consistency at.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
That right way, What about DK, I was going to
bring that up.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
DK is didn't practice yesterday, Uh probably about two thirty
was it a Friday?
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Two to thirty?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
About an hour after we have you and I are
talking here, they'll h we'll find out what DK status is.
I mean, I talked to your friend Hugh Millan about
this week. He did a great job of articulating, no
DK metcalf that changes everything, right, what offense, what defenses
can do against against that?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Absolutely?
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I mean, you know, I think we probably all love
Jake Bobo just because you know the kind of.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Player he is. He's probably a great kid too, I
would imagine, just.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
You know, but but you know, obviously when you lose
DK Metciff, you kind of lose a little bit there.
So so anyway, getting back to what's going to happen,
you know, this week, let's start with the Rams offense,
because they're a unique offense in the sense that you know,
they shift and motion a ton Okay, I mean last
week against the Vikings and this is par for their course,
(09:17):
as it were, fifty three of their sixty six offensive
plays had movement before the snap of the ball. Stafford
had thirty four dropbacks. Okay, thirty of them featured movement
before the snap of the ball. So this is who
they are on offense. And now that Cup and Nikou
are back, it's even more extreme because both those guys
are movement players. So now you have to deal with that.
(09:40):
I'm blaming. I'm not smart enough to sit here and
say what Mike McDonald and staff are going to do. Look,
you know, Leslie Frasier's there, Leslie delt you know, with
Miami for a couple of years and all their motion
with Tua and Mike McDaniel, so you know he and
Leslie's been in this game for a long long time.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
He's seen everything.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
So but that's the first thing you have to do
deal with is you've got to figure out how you're.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Going to deal with all the movement in the Rams offense.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
So what does movement do to a defense?
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Because I always sometimes I think, you know, there's movement
and that gives a quarterback a feels are they in zone?
Are they in you know, are they in man? What
they're doing? But what is what is that true? What
all that movement, especially when you have guys like Nikua
and Kup What is that doing for a defense?
Speaker 3 (10:22):
What's a defense looking at that? What are they looking for?
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Well, number one, you have to decide how you want
to line up, and you have to decide whether you
want to react to the movement, okay, because the more
you react to the movement and the more communication is needed,
and the more there's a chance that there's a mistake. Now,
some teams are really good at this and they can
do that. Again, I can't answer for Mike McDonald and
(10:46):
how he sees his group, but other teams want to
line up and be relatively static so they don't get
caught up.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
In communication issues.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Normally, if you're going to play out of a too
high structure, okay, your defense is more balanced because you
have two high safeties. You don't have to change the
strength of your defense in response to movement, so there's
less communicating that has to be done. You know, our
buddy you Millan could talk about this really well as well.
So you may see a lot of too high structure
(11:18):
this week because they don't want to get caught up
in having to react to motion because now they're balanced
on defense.
Speaker 3 (11:25):

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Okay, we talked a lot about Gino Smith and we'll
get back to the Rams defense in a minute. But
as far as the Rams offense, Matthew Stafford has been
doing it at a high level for a long time.
You've watched I don't know how many thousands of hours
of tape of Matthew Stafford but Nikua and cop and
it doesn't even seem to matter sometimes if those guys
(11:48):
are in or out of the lineup. This guy just
makes place. What is it about Matthew Stafford that jumps
out on the film?
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Well, first of all, you got to start and you know,
and it's an overused and it might sound cliche to people,
but just the ability to throw the football. I mean,
the guy is a super high level arm talent. And
by that I don't mean he has a gun, which
he does, but he can make every kind of throw
from every arm angle. He can throw with velocity, he
can take something off and throw with pace and touch.
(12:16):
There's not any throw that he can't make at a
high level. Okay, Number two, he's incredibly intelligent. He you know,
he's seen everything, he knows how to respond to it.
You know, nothing in the game is going to be
something he hasn't seen. And number three, he actually moves
better than you think. He's a pocket quarterback. Okay, you
know again, it's we talked about this with Gino. It's
(12:37):
not like he's going to create and run around and
do those special things that Josh Allen or Mahomes can do.
But he's got a little better movement than you think,
so he does. And plus he can throw really well
on the run. So he's just a high, high level player.
A really good friend of mine did a survey of
coaches this year in the off season, and you know
(12:59):
he has which is about receivers quarterbacks, and it was
unanimous that Stafford was the best quarterback in the NFC.
And it wasn't even a close conversation. So you're dealing
with the guy that is so highly respected by coaches
in the league.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, he amazes me because he's he's no spring chicken.
I mean he's he's been around forever, and yet there's
this weird elusive athleticism with him, like he's hard to
get down. He's a big guy, he's drawn, but he's
got He's better athletically, is more athletic than I think
people give you credit for.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
And all that.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
He's not explosive athletic, but there's kind of a lightness
to his.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Movement that allows him to move around a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
That's what I noticed.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
And it's just I mean, listen, if you like the
game of football, you like watching a guy like that play,
unless he's playing against your team.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
And Seahawk fans don't want to see that this weekend.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Offensive line have what's your evaluation in that Rams offensive line?
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, that that could be a little bit of a concern,
and you know you have to be able to take
advantage of that. You've got to be able to pressure Stafford.
I mean, that's a key part of this game for
the Seahawks. They've got to be able to pressure Stafford.
If they can't, you know, that's where he just sits
back there comfortably. And you know with all the movement
they do, and you know with kupp Nikua, I mean.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Nikua last week and his first game.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Back was clearly the focal point of their past game.
He was deployed in multiple ways, running different routes. The
high percentage of motion, you know, I mean some were
static where he did win on the outside, and that's
something that he's gotten better at because last year this
past summer, I watched all his targets from last year
when he had the great year unexpectedly, and he didn't
(14:34):
really win one on one a lot.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
They didn't use him that way.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
But last week he had two or three routes where
he won one on one on the outside and ran
great routes. So he's gotten better in that area.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Great cossette with this prot faclsider, I thought we would
see a significant step back with the Rams defense. They
lost a guy that was pretty good. He retired. Donald
was his last name.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
You've probably see what position did he play? Wherever he wanted?
I don't know, probably could have played safety if you wanted.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
To, right right right, as athletic as that dude was.
But defensively many it feels like they've they've really got
some stuff.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Going right now.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
You know, it's it's an interesting defense.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
I mean, you know, they drafted Jared Verse from Florida
State in the first round and I of course, you know,
did his tape coming out of Florida State, and he
is a powerful rusher. I mean, he's had some rushes
this year against pretty good old lignment where he's just
driven them back in the pocket. And it'll be really
interesting to watch, you know, certain snaps of him versus
(15:37):
cross So I'm very anxious to see that. But yeah,
they've been a pretty good defense. You know, they've got
a lot of guys who may not be known nationally,
like Lake number thirty seven, who's kind of a safety
and a slot corner, and he's a really versatile, good
player in the context of their defense.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Yeah, that Quinton Lake is who you're talking about right
now along the way versus so they play three to four,
right or I guess kind of similar.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
With five too, but yeah, that's their base.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Yeah, yeah, it's kind of similar to what Seattle a
lot of times runs right when you talk.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
About Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, he's an outside linebacker. Number eighty wears defensive end
Brandon Fisk. He's a second round pick this season, number
fifty five. What do you see in this guy?
Speaker 5 (16:21):
Yeah, he he's a rotational player at this point in
his rookie season, so even he lines up a little
more inside. You know, he's a very athletic guy. Hasn't
made a huge impact, but he's, like I said, rotational.
The guy who's really interesting is Michael Hecked. I think
it is number ninety seven. He plays all over their
defensive front. He plays on the ball, on the edge,
(16:42):
he plays inside on the ball, he plays in a
stacked linebacker position. He's a really interesting player. You wouldn't
say he's a sure pass rusher and that he's dynamic,
but he does a lot of things for them, and
he's really critically important for their defense. Now they play
a free agent named Walla as their slot corner, so
he obviously won the job and they feel he's their
(17:04):
best option at slot corner and he's been their slot
corner this year.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, Josh wallacehre is number thirty. Deal in the way.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Just real quick before I wrapping up, Greg, just going
back to Jared first, number eight, the first round pick.
You mentioned the power he has and we probably needs
to be mentioned it again. That is kind of the
weakness right for Charles Cross. He can get pushed back
into the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
And it's been a little bit Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I mean, you know, surprisingly so I think based on
what we saw on his college tape. But yeah, it's
going to be a good test. I mean that's because
that's what Verse is. I thought coming out in a
good class of edge rushers this past year that he
was the most powerful in terms of speed to power
and that's his game. And he's going to test Cross,
and Cross is going to have to set his house
(17:44):
and anchoring to be ready for that.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
If dk Metcalf doesn't play this weekend, as he didn't
last weekend, it feels like there's just this massive impact
that you know, Hugh talked about it on Monday with
us in terms of how the DBS could just squad
on guys because.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
There isn't ask that question that vertical threat. How can it?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
How have you seen teams counter that? Because not everybody
has DK Metcalf right now, everybody has that guy, So
what how can a team counter that?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Well, then it comes down to your concepts, you know,
because the rams are not going to play high high
percentage man to man, So now it comes down to
your concepts. To attack zone, You've got to create space.
You've got to create you know, route spacing with your
concepts so that you present clean looks for Gino and
he can feel comfortable playing within the timing and structure
(18:30):
of the play design.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Now, obviously there are.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Going to be man concepts, and then based on what
he sees, he's got to pick out who he wants
to throw it to, you know. So, But now it
comes down to really the offensive coaching staff, Ryan Grubb.
You know, he's got to be able to put together
a plan against zone where Geno feels like, hey, i
can play within timing and structure, I'm comfortable with what
I'm seeing, I'm comfortable with my reads, and I can

deliver the football.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Has Amy ever told you, tells you you're really good
at this? Like, you're pretty good at this?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
I just I just made all this stuff up today. Ian,
you know.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
You're very good at this. This is awesome. This was
I really enjoyed today. I'll be honest with you. This
was I think this was a great breakdown of both
teams and UH A team that we see twice a
year out here in Seattle of Sean mcvaye just is.
It's he's incredible coach man. He is an absolutely incredible coach.
He'd done a great job down there, good matchup coming up.

We should also tell people Ian that you know, I
don't know what you're gonna ask me. You know, we
just started talking and and you know, I don't know
what you're gonna ask me. It's just, you know, we
just kind of go.

I think that's the beauty of what we do is
that we've done it for so long. I kind of
feel like I know where I can go with you
and and I I always get an answer like and
if you don't know, you tell me you don't know.
You don't try to b s anybody. And that's what
I love about it. It's it's fantastic. All Right, We're

way more to.

Learn, I would agree, and I learn. Every time I
talk to you, I learn more about football. Our listeners
learn more about football. And every time we have Hugh
Millan on, it's exact same thing. We learn more about football,

you listen to Hardcore Football on Monday, the impact of

Dk Metcalf all apologies to Dick Fame is great and
is significant, not just in catching balls but what he
does and Greg just talked about it too. I mean
how defenses and Hugh use the term squatting. Greg talked
about that as well. Is when you can just you know,
when you don't have that vertical threat and you don't
have a DK Metcalf, guys, it's and god, I was
(22:50):
really Jackson And part of it was the protection. Obviously
the protection was just awful. Russo just killed him. But like,
I was really surprised and disappointed that we didn't see
a better game from Tyler Lockett.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
Because one catch nine yards, right.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
And it came in the first quarter. Yeah, I that
just surprised me. And that's not an indictment on Tyler.
It's just like he has to be a huge focal
point for your offense. Like he's got to be a massive,
big part of what you do on Sunday, and the
fact that he didn't do anything last week is a

at when he made the catches, they weren't because they

Now here's some good news. George Fans not on the
injury list. He washed our limited participation yesterday, but he's
not listed at all right now. So I'm assuming George

Fans in at right tackle. That'll be a massive upgrade.
I mean a massive You could probably make an arguments
the first time all season as we hit game number nine,
that they'll have a competent right tackle to play a game.
Speaker 7 (24:42):
I mean the Mike Jarrell experience. I thought Atlanta was fine,
was okay, clearly it was not good against Buffalo, But
we're talking about an upgrade of Honestly, if we look
at anybody coming back to see I mean, the addition
of Abe Lucas will be huge, and but I think
the difference between between George Fan and Mike Jarrell is
far greater than the difference between George Fanca Abe Lucas.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Oh yeah, I think you're right. I think you know
McDonald's comments this week if people missed him. He was
asked about all those guys, and the first thing he said,
like they asked, you know fans back, are you gonna
rotate him in? Are you gonna work him back slowly?
And McDonald was pretty out of it. No, he's he'll
be our right tackle period. He will be the right tackle.
Remember four sights on the injured list, so he's out
for a while, but he'll be our right tackle period.

And a story, So there's no rotation. No, we're gonna
ease you in. If you're ready to go, you're gonna play.
And George is a vetman, he's been around, he's fine.
So and then he was asked about if you know
Lucas and Fenn, He's like, no, Abe will be our
right tackle when he's healthy, So there's no doubt there's
you know who number one is by a lot. You
know who number two is because you signed him because

you knew Lucas had a bang up knee and you
didn't sign Remember Abe, Lucas was not signed to like
a veteran minimums deal, like he got a nice chunk
of change to come back here and be a swing
backup tackle, right and and so like, And you're right,
the drop off from Lucas to Fant is significant. The
drop off from Fant to anybody else is Grand Canyon

like right, like it's it is huge along the way.
I just I they have to be better there. I
think they will be better there. And without dk Metcalf,
you know, Grub's going to try to run. I did
like the game plan last week early on. Okay, you're
not being you're not running between the tackles. You know, Walker,

there's nothing there for him. So they got the screen
game going. They got some short passes going to him
because he still got it. He'll make you miss, right,
And I like seeing that with Walker.

Well, they really led the game ten to seven. I mean,
if they had punched that in, it's a ten to
seven ball game. And suddenly what Ryan Grubb's trying to
do offensively. Listen, Buffalo. Overall, you look at the numbers,
they're a terrible run defense team. They had a good,
you know, first half, and because this youngs were so
far behind, we never really tested that run defense again.
But you know, overall, I think I think the philosophy
(27:03):
was there of this is not a great run defense team.
If we just keep going, keep going, keep going, eventually,
we're gonna get it. They just didn't have the chance
to do that.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
It is and it is such a pivotal game all
my you know, Danny and I agree with what Danny said.
You know, we just talked about that a couple of
segments ago, you know, like like if you want to
compare Washington and Seattle and the Seahawks, He's like, yeah,
if Washington doesn't make a bowl game, I'm fine. If
the Seahawks don't make the playoffs, I'm not. And I
there's a lot of people that don't feel that way.
There's so a lot of people that think that, hey,

the you know, the Seahawks were taking a step back.
We shouldn't be expecting that much. I'm adamant when I
say this. I am not only adamant. I'm very I'm very.

Confident when I say this.

They did not expect they expected to make the playoffs
this season period, end of story. This was they expected
this to be a playoff team. Now you can we
can split hairs and debate if you're a playoff team
or any Super Bowl contender. I'll make the argument that
if you're a playoff team in the NFL, so what
is it? Seven fourteen teams are playoff teams and then
National Football Game year.

I'm gonna guess.

About ten or eleven are depending on matchups and how
things happen and upsets happening all the way, there's probably
like anywhere between eight to ten that can win it. Really,
I think so, Yeah, I think in the NFL you can. Oh,
I guess that number is far lower. Personally, No, because
looking over the years, wildcard teams get to the super Bowl.
Wildcard teams find a way in now like look around
(28:24):
here's let's look at Detroit for a second. Yeah, No,
Adon Hutchinson is massive. That's going to catch up to
them at some point, Like you cannot take a player
of that caliber off your team. Baltimore looks really good,
but their defense isn't as good as it used to be.
It's not even close to what it used to be. Right,
So you look through there.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
In our division, the forty nine ers are broken like
they're not they're not right.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
So I guess So what I'm doing is, let me
just I've just pulled up like and I get it.
We're only right now on November first. But the playoff
picture in the NFC right now, it's the Lions, the Commanders,
and with a rookie quarterback. I don't know, I just
I don't remember that.

You remember that record, remember that record with the Commanders
because they got really lucky, Yeah, really really lucky.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
Commanders, the Falcons, the Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, Eagles. I see,
I see the Lions, and I guess Packers, maybe Vikings,
but really just maybe one to two, maybe three teams
in the NFC that could go to a super Bowl.
But everybody else is just fake to me.

But see you're gonna make You're gonna make Margaret before me,
because because of what you just said, there isn't a
team to go.

You go, oh my god, there's no way. Well I
think there's of that group.

I was looking at that for factor fiction and I
decided I wanted no part of it, like zero zero

that the Minnesota Vikings would have been a hammer team
and be right there and look how bad they look

Well yes, I mean at some point Sam Darnold was
going to show that he isn't, you know, a shiny
chocolate He's something.

But what was their bigger But what was a bigger issue?

Though the bigger issues it couldn't like Brian Floor's defense
couldn't get off the field against the Rams like that
was that was what that was what surprised me about
that It feels like every team's got a fatal flaw
or has that game in him. Even the Chiefs like
like Costal is talking about my homes like well, I'm
just having a normal year. Somehow They're still with the
record that they have. You're like, how you know, wats

they got a dominant defense, just a dominant like their
defense is good. Now they lose Jalen Watson that hurts them,
so you have some issues there. But I mean it's
that takes a little bit of depth out of the secondary.
But you know, he had just kind of cracked the
starting lineup, so their depth wise is okay, but it's
still not great. I just think it's a you just
got to get in. You just you just have to
get in. And the other reason is this, it doesn't

help you to have pick number seventeen or eighteen. Might
as well get in and give your fans a chance.
The goal will still get to the playoffs. I'm still
I'm and I know I'm not the same. There's a
lot of people, they're different. I just want to get in.
I just think I think that's that should always be
the goal contender, not contender. Every sport's different. The NHL
is the same way. I mean, I look around the NHL, Seattle,

the cracking RN as good as as Carolina. I mean
not even close. Carolina's really good. They came in here
and smacked him around. I think Dallas is head and
shoulders above them right now. But get in the playoff series,
give me seven games, give me Joey the course standing
on his head. You never know what happens, right, You

those games where it's easy to look at what happened
in the red zone twice when they got down there
and say that, hey, the game would have been different,
and maybe it would have been. You know, those are
the things you never know. But clearly they struggled.

With the passing game. They struggled with the run defense
as well.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Obviously, you know, defensively, was probably not the performance Mike McDonald.

Was looking for. You know, I thought that the Bills
did a really good.

Job attacking the zone coverage of the Seahawks, and that'll
be interesting this week because obviously the Rams are a
very good pass game as well, and now that they
have a Nakua back and cut back. You know that
changes the dynamic of the game. But yeah, last week
they struggled with in their own coverage concepts and Alan

was able to, you know, kind of pick him.

Apart a bit.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I want to go back to the defense in a second.
But there has been a lot of talk this week,
Greg about Gino Smith and you and I have talked
about Gino now for the last three three years.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I guess, yeah, and what we've seen and it feels.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Like with Gino and but this is I want to
know what you're seeing on film with Gino. It there's
either really good Gino or what we saw kind of
last week. And how would you as you're evaluating quarterbacks
around the league and you're talking to personnel guys, but
you're watching the film of every quarterback pretty much every week,
how would you evaluate and what would your evaluation be
(02:49):
of Gino Smith?
Speaker 5 (02:51):
I would say that when all's said and done, Geno
Smith is really an executor and a ball distributor, and
he needs a complete.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Offense to be effected.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
And you know, one of the changes they've made this
year is a ton of eleven personnel. Now the last
number of years with Shane Waldron. As you know, they
played a ton at a twelve personnel, even at times
thirteen personnel. That changes the way defenses play you. It
changes their personnel and it changes their alignments.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Gino is a.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
Is a what's the best way to describe it, because
people tend to think of words and that mean things
that I don't mean them to be.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
You know, I hate to say he's a system.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Quarterback or a facilitator because that makes it seem like
he's not a good player. But at his core, he
needs a complete, multi dimensional offense. Okay, in order for
him to be most effective. The Seahawks, as you and
I have discussed and both know as fans know as well,
have not been able to run the ball with any
efficiency and meaningful production. Okay, they average only twenty one
(03:55):
carries per game. It's the second lowest total in the league.
These kind of things, beginning with the fact that they're heavy, heavy,
eleven personnel. These kinds of things, to me impact in
a negative way what Gino is as a quarterback. So
again I'm not This is not a rip on the
coaching staff. I'm not there, so I never rip coaches
(04:17):
I don't do that because you have to be there
for the process.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
But to me, at his core, he's he's basically a
ball distributor.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Now does he have some mobility yet, But we're not
going to sit here and say he's a creator and
he's going to make special plays with his legs. He's
a pocket quarterback. So you know, everything has changed and
they have no run game.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, and that's that's kind of what I wanted to
ask you, because you know, when you say, so, let's
do a comparison. You know, when you say, you know,
he's got to have all those facets to you know,
to be at his best and most effective. And and
that would be in comparison to is it say? I mean,
I guess the gold standers Patrick Mahomes where he can
make do if the running game's not going, then he
can carry him on the shoulders or what have you.
(05:00):
How would you compare like and just not Gino necessarily,
but how you describe Gino with say a quarterback that
doesn't have those same traits that's that's maybe considered to
be a better quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Oh, I mean, you know, I guess you know, if
you're talking about the top quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
I imagine that that the list would be Mahomes, Alan Lamar.
People would still put Borrow in that category because of
the nature of his traits. You know, Like here, I
think an example that maybe is not exact, but I
think it fits is Jared Goff. Now, Jared Goff's a
really good thrower of the football, ye and and I
(05:39):
love Jared Goff, And I think he has high, high
level timing and anticipation, and that's a really well schemed offense.
But you know, I think that you know, they've got
a run game, They've got a big time run game
with two backs, and you know that really really helps.
Plus they play a lot. They can line up with
eleven personnel, they can line up with twelve personnel. Sometimes
(06:01):
they play with six to zero linemen. You know, I
think all those things factor in to how a quarterback plays.
Who's essentially a pocket quarterback, which GoF is, and which
essentially Gino is. Gino doesn't have all those elements.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
That makes all the sense in the world.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Because I'm looking at as you're talking about Jered Goff,
I'm thinking, Okay, he's got a very good offensive line.
He's got Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery. Right, So he's
got everything around him to be successful. And as you're
describing that with Gino, Gino may even have better I
don't know, it feels like he might even have better
arm talent saying GoF but similar to style quarterback, and
(06:39):
but Gino doesn't have those same things. He certainly doesn't
have the same offensive line. He certainly doesn't have the
same running attack.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Right. No, and the arm talent is quite you know,
God's pretty good thrower at the football.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
But anyway, what's what's flitting hairs there? But the point
is is, you know their pocket quarterbacks, you know, and
and pocket quarterbacks tend to need as good as they
can be. You know, you can't start comparing people.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
To Drew Brees and Tom Brady.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
I mean, they're you know, Brady's the best ever.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Breeze is a first ballot Hall.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Of Famer, So you can't make those kinds of comparisons.
We're talking stylistically what a quarterback is. Okay, even Dak Prescott, Okay,
Dak Prescott at this point his career is essentially the
same thing. He's an executor and a ball distributor, and
they're up and down every week because they have no
run game and their defense has been incredibly soft, and
they give up a ton of yards in the run
(07:27):
game on defense. So you know, these guys like that
they need team. You know, every quarterback theoretically does. I mean,
even look at the Chiefs this year. You know, they
become a really good running team. Spags, you know, is
a great decoordinator to their defense is great. You know,
Mahomes this year has more interceptions than touchdowns, although they're
still great on third down. They're among the best in
(07:49):
the league on third down conversions where Mahomes factor is
so difficult to defend. But you know, Gino needs these
kinds of things, and if he doesn't have them, he's
going to appear to be an up and downer radic player.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Makes all the sense in the world. I think that's
a great way to look at it.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
All right, So what are we looking at as far
as the Seahawks this week and Gino uh taking them?
By the way, I should mention to you, Anthony Bradford
will start at right guard and they're not going to
rotate him and Haines. I should point that out that was.
They did say that this week, so they're going to
try to go with a little more consistency at.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
That right way, What about DK, I was going to
bring that up.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
DK is didn't practice yesterday, Uh probably about two thirty
was it a Friday?

I mean, I talked to your friend Hugh Millan about
this week. He did a great job of articulating, no
DK metcalf that changes everything, right, what offense, what defenses
can do against against that?
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Absolutely?

I mean, you know, I think we probably all love
Jake Bobo just because you know the kind of.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Player he is. He's probably a great kid too, I
would imagine, just.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
You know, but but you know, obviously when you lose
DK Metciff, you kind of lose a little bit there.
So so anyway, getting back to what's going to happen,
you know, this week, let's start with the Rams offense,
because they're a unique offense in the sense that you know,
they shift and motion a ton Okay, I mean last
week against the Vikings and this is par for their course,
(09:17):
as it were, fifty three of their sixty six offensive
plays had movement before the snap of the ball. Stafford
had thirty four dropbacks. Okay, thirty of them featured movement
before the snap of the ball. So this is who
they are on offense. And now that Cup and Nikou
are back, it's even more extreme because both those guys
are movement players. So now you have to deal with that.
(09:40):
I'm blaming. I'm not smart enough to sit here and
say what Mike McDonald and staff are going to do. Look,
you know, Leslie Frasier's there, Leslie delt you know, with
Miami for a couple of years and all their motion
with Tua and Mike McDaniel, so you know he and
Leslie's been in this game for a long long time.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
He's seen everything.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
So but that's the first thing you have to do
deal with is you've got to figure out how you're.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Going to deal with all the movement in the Rams offense.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
So what does movement do to a defense?
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Because I always sometimes I think, you know, there's movement
and that gives a quarterback a feels are they in zone?
Are they in you know, are they in man? What
they're doing? But what is what is that true? What
all that movement, especially when you have guys like Nikua
and Kup What is that doing for a defense?
Speaker 3 (10:22):
What's a defense looking at that? What are they looking for?
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Well, number one, you have to decide how you want
to line up, and you have to decide whether you
want to react to the movement, okay, because the more
you react to the movement and the more communication is needed,
and the more there's a chance that there's a mistake. Now,
some teams are really good at this and they can
do that. Again, I can't answer for Mike McDonald and
(10:46):
how he sees his group, but other teams want to
line up and be relatively static so they don't get
caught up.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
In communication issues.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Normally, if you're going to play out of a too
high structure, okay, your defense is more balanced because you
have two high safeties. You don't have to change the
strength of your defense in response to movement, so there's
less communicating that has to be done. You know, our
buddy you Millan could talk about this really well as well.
So you may see a lot of too high structure
(11:18):
this week because they don't want to get caught up
in having to react to motion because now they're balanced
on defense.

Okay, we talked a lot about Gino Smith and we'll
get back to the Rams defense in a minute. But
as far as the Rams offense, Matthew Stafford has been
doing it at a high level for a long time.
You've watched I don't know how many thousands of hours
of tape of Matthew Stafford but Nikua and cop and
it doesn't even seem to matter sometimes if those guys
(11:48):
are in or out of the lineup. This guy just
makes place. What is it about Matthew Stafford that jumps
out on the film?
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Well, first of all, you got to start and you know,
and it's an overused and it might sound cliche to people,
but just the ability to throw the football. I mean,
the guy is a super high level arm talent. And
by that I don't mean he has a gun, which
he does, but he can make every kind of throw
from every arm angle. He can throw with velocity, he
can take something off and throw with pace and touch.
(12:16):
There's not any throw that he can't make at a
high level. Okay, Number two, he's incredibly intelligent. He you know,
he's seen everything, he knows how to respond to it.
You know, nothing in the game is going to be
something he hasn't seen. And number three, he actually moves
better than you think. He's a pocket quarterback. Okay, you
know again, it's we talked about this with Gino. It's
(12:37):
not like he's going to create and run around and
do those special things that Josh Allen or Mahomes can do.
But he's got a little better movement than you think,
so he does. And plus he can throw really well
on the run. So he's just a high, high level player.
A really good friend of mine did a survey of
coaches this year in the off season, and you know
(12:59):
he has which is about receivers quarterbacks, and it was
unanimous that Stafford was the best quarterback in the NFC.
And it wasn't even a close conversation. So you're dealing
with the guy that is so highly respected by coaches
in the league.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, he amazes me because he's he's no spring chicken.
I mean he's he's been around forever, and yet there's
this weird elusive athleticism with him, like he's hard to
get down. He's a big guy, he's drawn, but he's
got He's better athletically, is more athletic than I think
people give you credit for.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
And all that.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
He's not explosive athletic, but there's kind of a lightness
to his.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Movement that allows him to move around a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
That's what I noticed.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
And it's just I mean, listen, if you like the
game of football, you like watching a guy like that play,
unless he's playing against your team.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
And Seahawk fans don't want to see that this weekend.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Offensive line have what's your evaluation in that Rams offensive line?
Speaker 5 (13:48):
Yeah, that that could be a little bit of a concern,
and you know you have to be able to take
advantage of that. You've got to be able to pressure Stafford.
I mean, that's a key part of this game for
the Seahawks. They've got to be able to pressure Stafford.
If they can't, you know, that's where he just sits
back there comfortably. And you know with all the movement
they do, and you know with kupp Nikua, I mean.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Nikua last week and his first game.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Back was clearly the focal point of their past game.
He was deployed in multiple ways, running different routes. The
high percentage of motion, you know, I mean some were
static where he did win on the outside, and that's
something that he's gotten better at because last year this
past summer, I watched all his targets from last year
when he had the great year unexpectedly, and he didn't
(14:34):
really win one on one a lot.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
They didn't use him that way.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
But last week he had two or three routes where
he won one on one on the outside and ran
great routes. So he's gotten better in that area.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Great cossette with this prot faclsider, I thought we would
see a significant step back with the Rams defense. They
lost a guy that was pretty good. He retired. Donald
was his last name.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
You've probably see what position did he play? Wherever he wanted?
I don't know, probably could have played safety if you wanted.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
To, right right right, as athletic as that dude was.
But defensively many it feels like they've they've really got
some stuff.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Going right now.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
You know, it's it's an interesting defense.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
I mean, you know, they drafted Jared Verse from Florida
State in the first round and I of course, you know,
did his tape coming out of Florida State, and he
is a powerful rusher. I mean, he's had some rushes
this year against pretty good old lignment where he's just
driven them back in the pocket. And it'll be really
interesting to watch, you know, certain snaps of him versus
(15:37):
cross So I'm very anxious to see that. But yeah,
they've been a pretty good defense. You know, they've got
a lot of guys who may not be known nationally,
like Lake number thirty seven, who's kind of a safety
and a slot corner, and he's a really versatile, good
player in the context of their defense.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Yeah, that Quinton Lake is who you're talking about right
now along the way versus so they play three to four,
right or I guess kind of similar.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
With five too, but yeah, that's their base.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Yeah, yeah, it's kind of similar to what Seattle a
lot of times runs right when you talk.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
About Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, he's an outside linebacker. Number eighty wears defensive end
Brandon Fisk. He's a second round pick this season, number
fifty five. What do you see in this guy?
Speaker 5 (16:21):
Yeah, he he's a rotational player at this point in
his rookie season, so even he lines up a little
more inside. You know, he's a very athletic guy. Hasn't
made a huge impact, but he's, like I said, rotational.
The guy who's really interesting is Michael Hecked. I think
it is number ninety seven. He plays all over their
defensive front. He plays on the ball, on the edge,
(16:42):
he plays inside on the ball, he plays in a
stacked linebacker position. He's a really interesting player. You wouldn't
say he's a sure pass rusher and that he's dynamic,
but he does a lot of things for them, and
he's really critically important for their defense. Now they play
a free agent named Walla as their slot corner, so
he obviously won the job and they feel he's their
(17:04):
best option at slot corner and he's been their slot
corner this year.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Yeah, Josh wallacehre is number thirty. Deal in the way.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Just real quick before I wrapping up, Greg, just going
back to Jared first, number eight, the first round pick.
You mentioned the power he has and we probably needs
to be mentioned it again. That is kind of the
weakness right for Charles Cross. He can get pushed back
into the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
And it's been a little bit Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I mean, you know, surprisingly so I think based on
what we saw on his college tape. But yeah, it's
going to be a good test. I mean that's because
that's what Verse is. I thought coming out in a
good class of edge rushers this past year that he
was the most powerful in terms of speed to power
and that's his game. And he's going to test Cross,
and Cross is going to have to set his house
(17:44):
and anchoring to be ready for that.

If dk Metcalf doesn't play this weekend, as he didn't
last weekend, it feels like there's just this massive impact
that you know, Hugh talked about it on Monday with
us in terms of how the DBS could just squad
on guys because.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
There isn't ask that question that vertical threat. How can it?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
How have you seen teams counter that? Because not everybody
has DK Metcalf right now, everybody has that guy, So
what how can a team counter that?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Well, then it comes down to your concepts, you know,
because the rams are not going to play high high
percentage man to man, So now it comes down to
your concepts. To attack zone, You've got to create space.
You've got to create you know, route spacing with your
concepts so that you present clean looks for Gino and
he can feel comfortable playing within the timing and structure
(18:30):
of the play design.

Now, obviously there are.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Going to be man concepts, and then based on what
he sees, he's got to pick out who he wants
to throw it to, you know. So, But now it
comes down to really the offensive coaching staff, Ryan Grubb.
You know, he's got to be able to put together
a plan against zone where Geno feels like, hey, i
can play within timing and structure, I'm comfortable with what
I'm seeing, I'm comfortable with my reads, and I can

deliver the football.

Has Amy ever told you, tells you you're really good
at this? Like, you're pretty good at this?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
I just I just made all this stuff up today. Ian,
you know.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
You're very good at this. This is awesome. This was
I really enjoyed today. I'll be honest with you. This
was I think this was a great breakdown of both
teams and UH A team that we see twice a
year out here in Seattle of Sean mcvaye just is.
It's he's incredible coach man. He is an absolutely incredible coach.
He'd done a great job down there, good matchup coming up.

Dk Metcalf all apologies to Dick Fame is great and
is significant, not just in catching balls but what he
does and Greg just talked about it too. I mean
how defenses and Hugh use the term squatting. Greg talked
about that as well. Is when you can just you know,
when you don't have that vertical threat and you don't
have a DK Metcalf, guys, it's and god, I was

really Jackson And part of it was the protection. Obviously
the protection was just awful. Russo just killed him. But like,
I was really surprised and disappointed that we didn't see
a better game from Tyler Lockett.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
Because one catch nine yards, right.

And it came in the first quarter. Yeah, I that
just surprised me. And that's not an indictment on Tyler.
It's just like he has to be a huge focal
point for your offense. Like he's got to be a massive,
big part of what you do on Sunday, and the
fact that he didn't do anything last week is a
little is it's stunned, to be honest with you. You know,

jsn's numbers were okay, but then when you really look
at when he made the catches, they weren't because they
just did nothing offensively the first three quarters.

They're gonna want to run the football, Yeah, yeah, run
the football, Run the football. Blah blah blah.

I do think it's interesting that Anthony Bradford and probably
even encouraging that Bradford your right guard. They're not going
to do the little rotation thing. And if you remember Jackson,
they did that last year too with the other Haynes,
Phil Haynes and Anthony Bradford at times. And I've and
so wasn't just a peat and.

Andy Dickerson was the offensive line coach last year.

It's for whatever reason, this organization can't figure out who
your right guard is. And that's just really unfair to

Now here's some good news. George Fans not on the
injury list. He washed our limited participation yesterday, but he's
not listed at all right now. So I'm assuming George

Fans in at right tackle. That'll be a massive upgrade.
I mean a massive You could probably make an arguments
the first time all season as we hit game number nine,
that they'll have a competent right tackle to play a game.

I mean the Mike Jarrell experience. I thought Atlanta was fine,
was okay, clearly it was not good against Buffalo, But
we're talking about an upgrade of Honestly, if we look
at anybody coming back to see I mean, the addition
of Abe Lucas will be huge, and but I think
the difference between between George Fan and Mike Jarrell is
far greater than the difference between George Fanca Abe Lucas.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Oh yeah, I think you're right. I think you know
McDonald's comments this week if people missed him. He was
asked about all those guys, and the first thing he said,
like they asked, you know fans back, are you gonna
rotate him in? Are you gonna work him back slowly?
And McDonald was pretty out of it. No, he's he'll
be our right tackle period. He will be the right tackle.
Remember four sights on the injured list, so he's out
for a while, but he'll be our right tackle period.
(25:26):
And a story, So there's no rotation. No, we're gonna
ease you in. If you're ready to go, you're gonna play.
And George is a vetman, he's been around, he's fine.
So and then he was asked about if you know
Lucas and Fenn, He's like, no, Abe will be our
right tackle when he's healthy, So there's no doubt there's
you know who number one is by a lot. You
know who number two is because you signed him because
(25:47):
you knew Lucas had a bang up knee and you
didn't sign Remember Abe, Lucas was not signed to like
a veteran minimums deal, like he got a nice chunk
of change to come back here and be a swing
backup tackle, right and and so like, And you're right,
the drop off from Lucas to Fant is significant. The
drop off from Fant to anybody else is Grand Canyon
(26:09):
like right, like it's it is huge along the way.
I just I they have to be better there. I
think they will be better there. And without dk Metcalf,
you know, Grub's going to try to run. I did
like the game plan last week early on. Okay, you're
not being you're not running between the tackles. You know, Walker,
(26:31):
there's nothing there for him. So they got the screen
game going. They got some short passes going to him
because he still got it. He'll make you miss, right,
And I like seeing that with Walker.
Speaker 7 (26:40):
Well, they really led the game ten to seven. I mean,
if they had punched that in, it's a ten to
seven ball game. And suddenly what Ryan Grubb's trying to
do offensively. Listen, Buffalo. Overall, you look at the numbers,
they're a terrible run defense team. They had a good,
you know, first half, and because this youngs were so
far behind, we never really tested that run defense again.
But you know, overall, I think I think the philosophy
(27:03):
was there of this is not a great run defense team.
If we just keep going, keep going, keep going, eventually,
we're gonna get it. They just didn't have the chance
to do that.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
It is and it is such a pivotal game all
my you know, Danny and I agree with what Danny said.
You know, we just talked about that a couple of
segments ago, you know, like like if you want to
compare Washington and Seattle and the Seahawks, He's like, yeah,
if Washington doesn't make a bowl game, I'm fine. If
the Seahawks don't make the playoffs, I'm not. And I
there's a lot of people that don't feel that way.
There's so a lot of people that think that, hey,
(27:31):
the you know, the Seahawks were taking a step back.
We shouldn't be expecting that much. I'm adamant when I
say this. I am not only adamant. I'm very I'm very.

Confident when I say this.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
They did not expect they expected to make the playoffs
this season period, end of story. This was they expected
this to be a playoff team. Now you can we
can split hairs and debate if you're a playoff team
or any Super Bowl contender. I'll make the argument that
if you're a playoff team in the NFL, so what
is it? Seven fourteen teams are playoff teams and then
National Football Game year.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
I'm gonna guess.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
About ten or eleven are depending on matchups and how
things happen and upsets happening all the way, there's probably
like anywhere between eight to ten that can win it. Really,
I think so, Yeah, I think in the NFL you can. Oh,
I guess that number is far lower. Personally, No, because
looking over the years, wildcard teams get to the super Bowl.
Wildcard teams find a way in now like look around
(28:24):
here's let's look at Detroit for a second. Yeah, No,
Adon Hutchinson is massive. That's going to catch up to
them at some point, Like you cannot take a player
of that caliber off your team. Baltimore looks really good,
but their defense isn't as good as it used to be.
It's not even close to what it used to be. Right,
So you look through there.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
In our division, the forty nine ers are broken like
they're not they're not right.
Speaker 7 (28:46):
So I guess So what I'm doing is, let me
just I've just pulled up like and I get it.
We're only right now on November first. But the playoff
picture in the NFC right now, it's the Lions, the Commanders,
and with a rookie quarterback. I don't know, I just
I don't remember that.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
You remember that record, remember that record with the Commanders
because they got really lucky, Yeah, really really lucky.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
Commanders, the Falcons, the Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, Eagles. I see,
I see the Lions, and I guess Packers, maybe Vikings,
but really just maybe one to two, maybe three teams
in the NFC that could go to a super Bowl.
But everybody else is just fake to me.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
But see you're gonna make You're gonna make Margaret before me,
because because of what you just said, there isn't a
team to go.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
You go, oh my god, there's no way. Well I
think there's of that group.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
It really is just who the Lions lose to of
that group?
Speaker 3 (29:44):
What Lions this week? That's an interesting matchup.

I was looking at that for factor fiction and I
decided I wanted no part of it, like zero zero
part of it. Two weeks ago, I would have thought
that the Minnesota Vikings would have been a hammer team
and be right there and look how bad they look
last week?
Speaker 7 (29:59):
Well yes, I mean at some point Sam Darnold was
going to show that he isn't, you know, a shiny
chocolate He's something.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
But what was their bigger But what was a bigger issue?
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Though the bigger issues it couldn't like Brian Floor's defense
couldn't get off the field against the Rams like that
was that was what that was what surprised me about
that It feels like every team's got a fatal flaw
or has that game in him. Even the Chiefs like
like Costal is talking about my homes like well, I'm
just having a normal year. Somehow They're still with the
record that they have. You're like, how you know, wats
(30:26):
they got a dominant defense, just a dominant like their
defense is good. Now they lose Jalen Watson that hurts them,
so you have some issues there. But I mean it's
that takes a little bit of depth out of the secondary.
But you know, he had just kind of cracked the
starting lineup, so their depth wise is okay, but it's
still not great. I just think it's a you just
got to get in. You just you just have to
get in. And the other reason is this, it doesn't
(30:50):
help you to have pick number seventeen or eighteen. Might
as well get in and give your fans a chance.
The goal will still get to the playoffs. I'm still
I'm and I know I'm not the same. There's a
lot of people, they're different. I just want to get in.
I just think I think that's that should always be
the goal contender, not contender. Every sport's different. The NHL
is the same way. I mean, I look around the NHL, Seattle,

the cracking RN as good as as Carolina. I mean
not even close. Carolina's really good. They came in here
and smacked him around. I think Dallas is head and
shoulders above them right now. But get in the playoff series,
give me seven games, give me Joey the course standing
on his head. You never know what happens, right, You
just you just at that point you never know what happens,
all right, Uh, four more Tickson, We'll do a daily
power play and then uh, you know what we'll do.
