Lose and more than likely Boise State would be out
despite the fact they could get a first round by
time to talk to Seahawks. They got a lot going
on this weekend, taking on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday
down in Glendale. No better guy to talk about it

(01:53):
than our friend Greg Cosal.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
It's time for Egan's weekly visit with then Greg Coso,
brought to you by Seattle Cider Company on your home
for the twelfth Man and the NFL Sports Radio ninety

Speaker 2 (02:13):
All right, here we go, our good friend Greg Cosel.
He didn't have the week off, but we gave him
the week off for the holidays, and so we didn't
work last Black Friday. We had a cracking game going on,
but he joined us right now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
It's our weekly visit to preview the Seahawks and the Cardinals.
We do it every week, and a little earlier because

(02:33):
again another early cracking game. Cracking aer on Greg's schedule,
that East Coast time schedule back there, we're all messed up.
So Greg's on an hour earlier than normal today, but
we appreciate him jumping on, sir, how are you.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
I And I'm doing great? You know you got me
looking at the cracking scores didn't they win seven to
five the other night.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
They're doing well. They beat Carolina on Tuesday, four game
road trip, beat Carolina on Tuesday, beat the Islanders on
the island last night, and tonight they're in New Jersey
and Newark take on the Devil's a place I don't
think they've ever won, so.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
It's and that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I like that. Well, you know what feel for you
can you can watch your friend Ian on on the
ESPN Plus or whatever if you want. I'll be on tonight.
So yeah, go ahead. And you're doing nothing.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Nothing, nothing personal. But I think I'm gonna watch un
l V and Boise State tonight.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
You know what, I don't blame you. I don't blame
I'm actually I'm actually taping that game so I can
watch it when I get home after the back in
broadcast tonight, Hey U, we're gonna talk. People are saying,
some of the analytics people are on the league saying
that the Seattle Arizona game is the most important matchup
of the weekend just because of the ramifications in the
NFC West huge game. Second time in three weeks they've met.

(03:42):
We'll get to the matchup in a second. I want
to start with one player and and that is Leonard Williams.
He was named the defensive player of the Week in
the NFC and I know I think you talked to
Ross Tucker on his podcast about him. I'll just I'll
just leave it for you, Greg. What are you seeing
with Leonard Williams right now?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, Leonard Williams over the last number of weeks and
even more so in the first matchup with the Cards
week twelve, has been a dominant, dominant player inside and
of course he's multi positional. He can line up outside
as well, where he's had good snaps. But against the Cards,
he was truly dominant. Actually in that game, the Seahawks

(04:23):
D line physically overmatched the Cards all line throughout the game.
But then last week he obviously had the great interception,
which was a schemed defensive play that Rogers did not
see him drop out. He thought he had Wilson clean
on the slant route from the slot, and Williams made
just an unbelievably athletic play. I hope people realize how

(04:44):
athletic that was for a man that size, because it
wasn't as if the ball and as you know, was
thrown right into his chest. I mean he had to
reach out, he had to tap it to himself. I mean,
you know, if a corner did that, we'd say it
was a great play. And then of course just this speed,
he didn't look like a three hundred plus bound man moving.
And then he had the sacks later in the game.
I think the second one, if memory serves me correctly,

(05:06):
one of them was the result might have been of
was it of ma Fee actually creating the pressure and
then and Williams kind of cleaned up. But still he's
been a force. I would say over the last two
three weeks that he and Jalen Carter have been the
two best interior d lineman in the league.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
You know.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Just and again I'm talking two three weeks. I don't
need people yelling at me about Dexter Lawrence who's out
for the season, you know, or Quinnon Williams or you know.
I'm talking over the last two three weeks. But it
was really noticeable. And we'll get to this in the
in the Cards matchup two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Why do you think, though, that that you've seen such
a difference in in Leonard Williams, you know, I mean,
is it is it Mike McDonald's scheming him up. Is it?
Is it just the the understanding what Mike McDonald wants
to do on the defense. And you know, we've talked
all year about the similarities between Baltimore last year and
Seattle this year. Takes some time and all those things,
but it does feel like, whether it's Leonard Williams as
a player individually or overall, that this defense under Mike

(06:02):
McDonald is starting to come together week in and week
out more so.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, believe me, I wish I could get into Leonard
williams head. You know, if I could, someone would pay
me a lot to be a D line coach. So
I don't know why that's happened. Look, we know Leonard
Williams has been in the league a long time, but
he was a top five or six pick when he
came out. There was never a question about Leonard Williams' ability,
and early in his career with the Jets, you know,
he was up and down. He was much better with

(06:27):
the Giants. With Seattle, you know, he's had his moments,
but he certainly has been dominant the last few weeks. Look,
a couple of things talking about the defense in general.
Number one. I think they have tremendous depth along the
defensive line now that people are healthy. I mean, they
can roll people in and out. They get a lot
of good snaps from you know, from the Robertson Harrises

(06:48):
of the world. Jarn Reed's been a good player in
this league for a long time. Now Murphy's healthy, I mean,
you know, they've got front yeah, you know, And I
think too. The other thing that stands out is and
I think this now relates to what we spoke about
when the season started and we spoke about Mike McDonald

(07:09):
was Now that Jenkins is healthy, they're playing big nickel,
which I think is something that they want to play.
And the other player who I think is really playing
at a high level is Julian Love. I mean, you know,
I don't know how many people know about him, you know,
as you know the unfortunately the world tends to be
more East Coast based in terms of publicity. And you know,
Julian Love is a really good football player. And I

(07:32):
tell you what, you know, what stood out to me
watching the tape, and I'm sure you notice this, there
was a long yardage play I forget this past week.
It might have been third and long, and Wolan clearly
stepped out of his zone responsibility, and I think it
was it was a checkdown kind of throw, and it
was it might have been like third and twenty one

(07:53):
or second and twenty one, yep, And Wolan made a
mistake because it was zone and he ran in with
the receiver as if he was playing man, and the
play was converted or very close to being converted. Yes, yes,
and Love got on him, and you know, that's leadership
right there. I'm not in the locker room, so I
don't know all that stuff, but you could see that

(08:17):
he wouldn't have done that unless that was sort of
established that that's the way things work. And you know,
and that said an awful lot to me.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Well, Julian came here a year ago and he was
the captain two years ago with the Giants, came here
last year as a free agent. There was the whole
whatever we want to call it going on in that
secondary with Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, two massive personalities,
and I think that's just kind of was the beginning
of the end. And now it's Love's team in that regard.
I like we say, I'll tell you this it's Jaron

(08:48):
Reid's team up front as far as the guy that's
going to bark at dudes and be the leader. And
then in the back end, it's Julian Love. Let's talk
about this matchup on the defensive side for Seattle versus
that Arizona offense to weeks ago, they held James Connor
to under ten yards rushing. There were only two rushing
attempts by Kyler Murray in the game. He obviously threw

(09:08):
the big pick six along the way to Kobe Bryant,
but they just shut down that Arizona offense. Like I
hadn't seen that yet this season. Let's talk about that matchup.
What did Seattle do so well last week? And they
can you know, how do they replicate that? Because I'm
sure that there's gonna be a CounterPunch by Arizona this week.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yeah, and again, I can't speak to what Arizona may
or may not do. When Kyler Murray's your quarterback, and
I'm just being honest, and I've watched him, you know,
going back to his days in college, you just don't
know what you're gonna get week to week because his
game is very much built at times on second reaction, improvisational,
offscript plays, and those are plays that you know, you're

(09:47):
not gonna tell him not to make those plays or
try to make those plays. But those are maybe, yes,
maybe no plays any given week. Some weeks. Look this week,
maybe he makes them, and we talk next week about
oh man, they couldn't stop Eyler Murray. But a perfect
example in that first game was when and Witherspoon made
an unbelievable plays when Murray gets outside the pocket and
Witherspoon changes direction and runs him down, and then Murray

(10:10):
overthrows it right to Kobe Bryant, who returns it for
a touchdown. I mean, you know that's an off script
play too, but no one's going to say anything about that.
They only talk about the good plays ian as you know,
but you know, but you know, sometimes when you're off script,
you don't make good plays to make bad plays. So
it's always hard with Murray to know exactly what you're
going to get. But the key is the run game,

(10:32):
because I still think that they are a run first,
starting point offense. And as I just said a moment ago,
they just dominated them up front, truly truly dominated them,
and they really had no intermediate passing game either. I
think there were consecutive Murray completions to McBride of fifteen

(10:52):
to twenty yards in the second quarter, both coming on
really well designed route concepts, and other than that, they
really had no intermediate pass game whatsoever in that game.
And they it was just physical domination upfront. That's where
it all started. And you know, can that be done again?
You know, it's hard to say that because that was

(11:15):
true domination. But as we said, they have a lot
of depth on their defensive front. The Seahawks, that is,
guys are playing really well. Now Murphy's starting to flash
on tape.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
You know.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
You know, people might have forgotten about Murphy because he
was hurt and you know, obviously through the early part
of the season, but even before he was hurt, you know,
he was still getting acclimated to the league. But this
guy's got, you know, pretty special talent for a defensive tackle.
I mean, that's why he was the second defensive player chosen,
not the second. I think he was the fourth. Actually yeah,
but it was his first round pick. But you know,

(11:51):
they're really good upfront, and it's starting to show.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
How much of that is Jones and Knight the new
linebackers as opposed to Dotson and Baker, because if they
if the guys up front are doing their jobs, the
second the second level still has to make make the plays.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Right.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yeah, well, Jones is a really you've seen it. I mean,
first of all, Jones. The other thing about Jones, which
is a trade is he's big. He's like six three
two forty. I mean, he's not a small guy. And
Knights shown up, Knights flashed on tape. You know, Knights
had plays where he's showing a really quick trigger. He's
shown some key and diagnosability. I mean, this is a
way better linebacking duo than Dotson and Baker, significantly better.

(12:27):
And that's a factor as well. And they knew. You
know again, you know, people who listen know that everything
I say is based on tape. And you know, as
we discussed with our friend mister Millan, you know, the
tape told you that Dotson was not the answer at linebacker.
And obviously I think it was the week after we
had that conversation.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
That there was it was the next week they turfed him. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Yeah, I mean the tape told you that, you know,
and and it didn't matter that he was the leading tackler.
He couldn't do what Mike McDonald wants his linebackers to
really do to have a high level defense. And you know,
and I think I don't think you can understate the
importance of Jenkins being back and being you know, playing

(13:09):
more Big Nickel. When they played Big Nickel, he's almost
always the guy that's in the box or the overhang player.
And you know, and Julian Love, I mean, like I said,
I think he's been tremendous.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
A lot of the same with Great Cosail brought to
by Stealsider. And they get Chennan Nuosu back as well
this week, so that that'll help that downine and he's.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
And he's a good bye. I don't know how many
snaps he'll play, but he'll get added into the mix
and he's a good player.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, that helps them a lot other side of the ball.
They Great Cosail brought you by Seattlesider. Make sure you
check out the tap room. No great things going on
during the holiday season down at Seattleside right between East Marginalway,
First Avenue South the The The offense last game against
the Cardinals wasn't great. They did put it away. In
the end, they had a long drive. Myers kicked kind
of the ceiling field goal, but Gino through the red

(13:52):
zone interception. They still can't run the ball, at least
they didn't against the Jets again they put it Now
they've gone to their what would it be their third
starting right guard, for starting right guard, whatever would be.
I don't know Haynes. I don't think Haynes actually started
the game. So, but they've got Al Maya in there,
the rookie out of Utah right guard next to Abe
lucas Ola. Timmy's at center now, so things have changed

(14:14):
quite a bit on that offensive line. What do you
see from that offense on tape?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yeah, it's I mean, I'm just being honest with you
watching tape. It's it's been a tough watch the last
couple of weeks. I mean, you know, and this is
believe it or not. The Cards defense, while they don't
have stud players. I mean, Baker is a really good player,
but they don't have and mac Wilson number two has
really been a nice player for them, but they were

(14:37):
difficult defense to play against. Gannon has done a really,
really good job. They've got a lot of pressure looks
they've got a lot of discoverage disguise, they've got a
lot of late rotation. It's a tough it's a tough defense.
Now there's two things you might I would think you
might see this week to help Depending on the game,

(14:58):
every game is different, you know, you never know how
a game flows. But it would not surprise me to
see two things, some no huddle and some empty because
I think both of those things calm down a defense
that likes to do a lot of movement pre end,
post snap, so it would not surprise me to see
those two things. Empty has been part of what they've

(15:19):
done throughout the season, so that would not be abnormal.
But I think those two tactics could be something we see.
But the run game has clearly been an issue all season.
It's not a function of the back. The back has
really good talent, you know, it's the old line has
been really a problem all the year, as you well know.
I mean, it's just injuries, guys, uncertainty as to who's

(15:40):
going to be the right guard on the right tackle position.
I mean, Lucas is back, but he missed you know what,
three quarters of the year up to this point. So
it's that that's been, you know, clearly a problem all
season long.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
There's a lot of conversation here in this town about,
you know, what's going on with the offense. My criticism
would be my only criticism, and I guess, I guess
my question slash criticism will be they start slow. They
haven't had an offensive touchdowns since I think Week two
or three. I think they've only had two all year.
One was a long pass to DK Metcalf and the
other one was Zach sharpenay run. They've scored six first

(16:16):
quarter points in the last seven or eight weeks. They
both came on field goals. They just don't get off
to good starts. Is there anything you see different Seattle
first quarter compared to the next three quarters? Offensive?

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Here's where I'll say, let's think about this from the
point of view of Ryan Grugg. So he goes into
every week game planning knowing a couple of things. Okay,
you know, you got to these guys are realistic. You
know that when they're there in the building at ten
thirty at night and they're talking and everybody's gone and
they're trying to figure this out, you know, they're very realistic. Coaches,
as you well know you've been around all sports for

(16:49):
a long time. Coaches amongst themselves, are extremely realistic. They
don't have to say that to the media, they don't
have to say to anybody else. But they know their players,
they know their situation. So when they're sitting, here's what
they're talking about. Guys, our old line stinks. We can't
run the ball, all right, So how do we get
off to a good start here? We can't really run
the ball, So we don't feel really comfortable starting out

(17:11):
the game trying to establish a run because, you know what,
we haven't been able to do that, and the times
we've tried, we've gotten or you know what kicked all right,
past game? All right, we're playing with some old linemen
that really aren't the guys we want to have out there.
So are we a little uncomfortable, you know, coming out
really throwing the ball. So how are we going to
sort of manage this and work this? You know, in

(17:33):
many ways, we're kind of hoping that things are going
to work. So it's it's you know, it's it's not
an easy thing to do. It's easy for fans to say, oh,
they're going off the bad starts. The coaching stinks. You know,
you know how that goes. You've been doing this, but
it's that stuff's really difficult for coaches because they know
what their weaknesses are, and when you have weaknesses, you

(17:54):
end up being more concerned about making sure that the
weaknesses don't get exploited. That's the thing, because the last
thing you want to have happen is all of a sudden,
it's every every second down is second and ten. You
call it a pass, and the quarterback gets sacked, and
all of a sudden it's second and eighteen. You know,
then the whole game seems like it becomes unsettled before

(18:15):
it even has gotten under control.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
My friend Greg Cosell is in the Gambling Man. The
NFL doesn't allow him to do that. But I'm as
I listen to this, I'm hearing undertake the ender. It
was sixteen to six last game with these two teams.
I'm here in the under. I hear the under we're
giving you the ender of today. We got a short show,
so we're gonna let you cut you loose. Next week
we talk about Seahawks and Green Bay Packers. My friend, oh,
that's a good one.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
That'll probably be in our matchup show.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
About time, like, what's wrong with you get those guys
in the matchup.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
O cards in the show this week.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
It's a big game. That's an ESPN matchup show. You can,
as we say out here, you got to make sure
you kind of save it. He's on early in the
morning on the West Coast. Like when I say early
in the morning, middle of the night in the West Coast.
So go check that out. We'll talk to you next week. Greg,
Thank you, Thanks Ian, that is great coast Well. Dannie
O'Neil joins us next again to compact the show today.

(20:01):
Give a call four two five five zero five hundred.
Hello Danny, how are you?

Speaker 4 (20:05):
I'm good? How are you doing? Ian?

Speaker 2 (20:07):
I'm good. I want to get to see you had
a lot of You wrote a lot on the Seahawks
this week, and I'm gonna get to that in a second.
But I was just in the break, kind of cruising
through the old world Wide Web there a little bit,
and uh you also wrote a little bit about recruiting,
transfer portals, all that stuff. I'm going to get to
that because I'm curious. I'll give the context of what

(20:28):
I just read. And you've been around covering sports forever.
The landscape we have now in college football and is
just weird. But I was reading this story that my
buddies at kook fan dot com did, and the big
story out there today was WAZU had its first bull
practice in their brand new indoor facility and John Mattier

(20:48):
was there participating. That's the only player that they were
They the practice tomorrow is closed, and the media was
asked to not kind of do a head count and
say who's there and who's not. Jake Dickard said afterwards
they expect to lose fifteen or twenty guys Monday officially
when the portal opens, but that's the norm. Every year,
every school in the country loses players. Sometimes we already

(21:09):
know about it. Sometimes they wait till Monday. But it's
become this weird bidding war for players.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Now.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
There's some that hey, i'm a walk on, I want
to go get a chance to play somewhere else, or
I'm a backup quarterback, I want to go to get it.
But there's others that are like, I'm just gonna grab money,
or I don't want to compete, whatever it might be.
You said, you've always kind of avoided the recruiting world
is it even worse now because the recruiting world isn't
just high school, it's also college.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
It's more complicated with the transfers because of what you
just mentioned, which is that there's a monetary compensation involved.
And my opinion, very firmly has always been you shouldn't
boo college athletes and you really shouldn't get mad at
college athletes. It's okay to get mad at the coaches,
to be frustrated at things, but they are by definition amateurs.

(21:56):
That's changing, and I don't know if that changes the
expectation of behavior. Is it fair to do a college
athlete because they underperform what their perceived value is from
the nil deal to choose to lure to the city
the school. I don't think there's any way to avoid that. Eventually,

(22:21):
once you bring in that component, there is a certain
level of expectation and frankly professionalization that happens. I am
uncomfortable with it because it is changing one of the
things that I really like about college sports, and it's
a challenge. And what I found myself is I kind
of don't want to pay attention until they're on campus.

(22:44):
I don't want to follow Hey, this guy entered the portal,
he could be a candidate to be your tackle just
because man, that just seems like a really, really shady road.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
To start going down.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
Where are we going to be able to get enough
resources together to work him away from this other school.
It feels there's there's a level of shadiness that I'm
uncomfortable with.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
You. I think back to the first really the first big,
you know, nil deal in our state, and Frank, it
wasn't Washington, it was Washington. It was cam Ward two
years well now three years ago, three years ago, and
I remember, I remember cam Ward comes in from Incarnate Word,
and there's all this excitement about this guy that lit

(23:28):
up the FCS and Wazu got him basically because they
hired his head coach to be the offensive coordinator, or
maybe he was the offensive coordinator the the heart and
BOC might didn't matter. They brought in Eric Morris, That's
why they got him. They're all excited. And he was
getting Danny a package that was worth a little bit
north of one hundred thousand dollars And think about how

(23:50):
what that were that ranks Now, like that's just not
even a drop in the bucket for a player. Hell,
cam probably made more than ten times out this year
at Miami, he was well into seven figures. But I
do remember, and I was one of those. I was
probably more critical of him than any college athlete ever
because I'm like, man, we're paying him, We're paying this guy, right.
I think it does open that up along the way

(24:12):
that we're paying the you know, dude, you're getting paid.
And it's not like, hey, the Seahawks are paying Gino
Smith thirty million, so I'm mad because he's throwing red
zone interceptions. I think the part is that Jenny that
jumps out of me is hey, we're mad at cam
Ward because I booster alum and paying his salary. It's

(24:33):
way more personal now.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
It is, and that that level of continuity because it's
never been.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Fans money.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
It's always been I mean indirectly, but it's always been
a team's payer. Yes, and there is with the collectives.
There's just it's it's an uncomfortable reality that's there. And
I am in support of players being paid. Also recognize
that there are going to be some unintended consequences and

(25:04):
there are.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Going to be some changes in expectation that come along
with that.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
It's a weird world we're living in. Daniel Neil joining us. Okay,
you're back there in New York. Can you walk us
through the landscape of a Monday after a Jets loss
to Seattle, like we just saw.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Well.

Speaker 5 (25:22):
The thing I will tell you is that I thoroughly
enjoy turning on, turning on w f A N and
listening to a bit of ranting and talking about I
think the best call that I heard this week was that, look,
look it's Aaron Rodgers and two of his buddies that
are running everything.

Speaker 4 (25:41):
Now.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
There's a level of vitriol.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
And then after the Youth the Netflix documentary series was announced,
I turned it on after that because I was like,
this is going to be a good reaction.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
And I was not disappointed. Who wants to watch this?

Speaker 5 (26:01):
I don't want to sit and listen to what he
did to overcome his achilles injury and all the crack
pop theories he has.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
They're three and nine.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
I couldn't care less about these guys. It's that between
the two teams, the Giants, there's a certain amount of.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Hey, we're still not totally out on the regime. That's here.

Speaker 5 (26:24):
We're still not totally out on table and the GM
it's getting shaky.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
And with the Jets, it is launched, this franchise into
the sun. Can someone please buy it?

Speaker 5 (26:34):
It's second, it's not quite the anger that Chicago fans
have right now towards the Bears. And that's only because
Jets fans are used to it, and that this is
not all that extraordinary for the past twenty years.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
How crazy is it? This is where football is so
different than than especially baseball. Right in baseball, the top markets,
the big markets, they spent money, they go sign whoever
the hell they want. I mean, the Yankees' biggest problem
is they may get out bid for Juan Soto. Oh gosh, sorry,
you still have a three hundred million dollar payroll. Right

(27:10):
like Chicago Cubs. They may not be good, but they'll
spend money. The White Sox are a different story because
they're a train wreck because of their owner Dodgers all that.
But the two you know, Chicago and New York have
three of the worst franchises right now in the NFL
with a salary cap league and where you know, you
can't just outspend people because you're in a big market.
I guess that's the beauty of the NFL.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
It is one of the things that I do like
about about the sport. And I will point out one
of the things that in college football's rush to emulate
the NFL that they don't fully understand, which is the
reason the business model in the NFL works the way
it does, is because of the parody that's there. And
parody is something that the powerful people in college football

(27:55):
fight tooth and nail, and it'll be they're gonna run
into problems because of that in their attempt to create
sort of NFL light.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
But I truly do.

Speaker 5 (28:08):
That fact, the fact that New York could not mean
less in the NFL context is a pretty thoroughly delicious reality.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
It's so awesome. It is so it is so awesome
Daniel to do with us. It was you wrote about
the ugly win. There's no such thing as an ugly win, right,
it was just a win last week.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 7 (28:27):
Once you get to the end of it, you look
back and you're like, oh, wasn't that kind of crazy?

Speaker 4 (28:31):
Cause you believe they fumbled twice.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
On kickoffs, They gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown,
they had extra point blocked. That doesn't really matter because
they didn't allow points the second half and they ended
up pointed.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Were you were you at the game? Did you cover
the game a few years ago down in Arizona, the
six to six or nine to nine tie, whatever the
hell it was. Were you down there for that week? Yes? God,
the worst game ever. We're all sitting in the press
box there going this is like the only good thing
about this weekend is that we get to go to
low Dose later, like that's the only good thing. It

(29:03):
was like that was And I've always had that game
in my memory thinking, well, that was the worst football
game in terms of just you know, entertainment value, watching
a game that I've ever covered in my life. And
then I thought, well, two weeks ago, sixteen to six
with the Cardinals was pretty damn close. And then last
week they just said hold my beer, like that's what
it was like. And now you go and now they
go to Arizona again this week, and Danny, you know what,

(29:25):
we just talked to our buddy Greg Costello breaks down
because of nose and he's going through it. He's not
gonna give you a prediction. I'm thinking, well, okay, so
this is going to bet the under. This is gonna
be like a you know, a thirteen to seven game
or something. It's just gonna be gross down there.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
And I've after watching Seattle's defense for years Hembrhage points,
I'm kind of into the scrappiness of it. I'm kind
of I like how tough their defense is. I've even
I'm diluted enough. I started going back to the first
half of the season and trying to convince myself maybe
they weren't that bad because they played the Bills and

(30:03):
the Lions, who I think are the two best teams
in the league, and maybe that distorted some of what
it looks like.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
And that's not This defense has gotten markedly better.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Over the past month, and it's I will always contend
that the most fun you have rooting for a football
team is when you've got a dominant defense. Points are nice,
and hey, like you said, every win, no matter how
you get it is pretty. But it is really fun
to root for a defense that causes havoc.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
And I'm not saying.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
This defense is there yet, but it's certainly starting to
get pretty close with some of the things that they're doing,
and just for these past four weeks they functioned at
a pretty high level.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
We will encourage people to read and subscribe to the
dang Apostrophe. I'll leave you with this final quick thought
and final quick question. Safe to say that what we
see is true. You did a deep dive on this,
that the Seahawks are really good at the end of halves.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
Yes, I don't know how sustainable it is, but they
are really good.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
It has and it's actually between the two. The defense
has had some.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Good holds and some good stops. The offense is really
good at scoring and scoring without much time on the
clock their ability to manage. They are plus thirty nine
in the final two minutes of halves. They get out
scored in the first twenty eight minutes of both the
first and the second half, but damn it, when the

(31:32):
two minute warning hits, they all of a sudden put
everybody in a headlock.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
And I think I was looking at it.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
They've given up two touchdowns total in the final two
minutes of the game, and one of those was on
that goofy blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown.
So the defense has allowed one touchdown in the final
two minutes and you look at their scoring that they've
been able to do. It's that's the difference in this
team right now, is they are able. They have a

(32:00):
below average offense until the final two minutes of a half,
and then they've got one of the best offenses going.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
And there are three people that you point to when a.

Speaker 5 (32:11):
Team can function well at the end of halves. It's
the head coach who's controlling game management, It's the play caller,
and it's the quarterback. And I'm finding it very convincing
and compelling to say, if you've got a quarterback that
has your team at a plus thirty nine in those
end of half situations, you probably got a pretty good quarterback.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
How can people read this great work you're doing, my friend, you.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Can log on at Danny O'Neil dot com, enter your name,
I will send you an email and you'll be on
the list.

Speaker 4 (32:43):
It's as easy as that, no charge.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
It's great stuff, especially in the day and age in
which newspapers and columnists are kind of disappearing by the second,
which is a sad state of affairs. But guys like
Danny to do it better than anybody. You can go
read their stuff. Dang aposterrhy Danielneil dot com. Go check
it out. Thank you, My friend will talk next week.

Speaker 4 (33:01):
Sounds great.

Speaker 8 (33:01):
Take care of you.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
That's Daniel yilk got. I love those conversations every week
with him, tons of fun. I could do way way
more with him. All right, let's take a break. We'll
come back wrap up the first hour. Don't forget Brandon
Funston coming up top of the hour. Probably a good
idea to start getting on the phones right now two
six two eight six ninety five ninety five or eight
hundred eight two nine ninety five zero a day late
and an hour earlier than normal. But we will get
you some fundst in time. Because it's the final week

(33:25):
of the fantasy football regular season. I see Breise Hall's
got an issue in some more. Don't forget you can text.
We can. We'll actually get some text in that didn't
come in right at noon today. So if you want
to text right now four nine, four to five one
your questions for Fundston, do it next. Ninety three point
three KJFM.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Now back to the Washington State Beef Commissions. Football Friday
with the inf NEETs on your home for the NFL
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
All right, we're back on a Friday afternoon. It is
our it is our sorry, Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday.
Big thanks to watching State Beef Commission Football Friday every
Friday here on KJR Beef. What's for Dinner? Also when
we gave away our pair of tickets already, So for
the WIA State Championship High School Footballchampionships taking place at

(34:18):
Husky Stadium throughout the day and into the evening tonight
and then also tomorrow tomorrow as well. Somebody texted at
four nine four fivet one about those jets and we've
just I saw an intermix with all our fantasy football
questions which is coming up in a second, and they
were asking the question, Hey, is the Oday East Side

(34:40):
Catholic game also at Husky Stadium? The answer is yes,
and it's also being broadcast right well, not right here
across the dial on the AM side on nine point
fifty am tonight seven o'clock with Chris Kid and Greg
Bell on the call for that game tonight, so you
can hear the championship game, the classic MATCHUPDA and Eastside

(35:01):
Catholic seven o'clock over on nine to fifty ams. But yeah,
the game, all the games are Husky Stadium. They are
not doing it at the Coma Dome anymore, and thankfully
they're not doing it at a high school stadium anymore,
as they did at Mount Dahoma for a few years,
a couple of years at least, So yeah, they are
doing In fact, I think what they did that year
they played a couple of games at Mount Tahoma and
some of the games were like at Sparks Stadium in Pwallup,

(35:24):
just goofy, like just weird. Yeah, yeah, it was just
not good. And you know what, I like Sparks, I
like POPKINI those are great venues for high school football.
They're not good venues for high school football state championships.
But Husky Stadium fantastic. What a cool experience for the
kids that get to play in Husky Stadium for a
state championship, playing on that field and that venue. For

(35:47):
ninety nine percent of them, it will be the only
time they ever get to play in a stadium of
that caliber. So that's pretty awesome. Greg was telling us earlier,
Greg Bell that he thinks that Jen Cohen made that
happen before she left the USC so very very good
in that regard. Okay, uh, coming up next, coming up next.

Speaker 9 (36:05):
We got full phone lines, by the way, Oh.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Wow, okay two when a phone line opens two o
six two eight six ninety five ninety five or eight
hundred eight two nine oh nine five zero when a
full line opens, jump on. We're doing it a day
late and an hour earlier. Does that make sense because
normally at two o'clock on Thursdays, Brandon Funston from The
Athletic joins us to answer your start Fantasy football questions.

(36:31):
He's with us today because yesterday was just kind of
crazy with another you know, early show, all these early
shows throughout the week. So with that happening, we've got
all that for you. So I want you guys to
call in right now two oh six. Well when the
line opens, are texting four nine four to five one,
because this is basically the last week in the regular season.
Fundston on a Friday, coming up.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Next from the Start rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three kJ RFM sports headlines.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
The headlines are brought to you by Frost Spruit, cors
Light Choose Chill, which goes good on a Washington State
Beef Commission Football Friday Beef cores. Light doesn't get much
better that. Let's go first of all, Seahawk injury port
number one of two. The next one will come out,
probably right when Softy and Dick hit the air right
around two o'clock. But as of right now, the only
player ruled out for Sunday at Arizona is Stoning forsythe

(37:19):
questionable Ken Walker with an ankle slash calf, Michael Dixon
with a back injury. Everyone else good to go. I
remember dk Metcalf and Leonard Williams did not practice yesterday,
but they're both good to go. Hankins didn't practice yesterday,
he's good to go. Walker would be the concern right now,
as well as Michael Dixon. And if you remember when
people start telling you, well, Jason Myers can punt, remember

(37:40):
what John Ryan told us Jess on Tuesday. Quote you
don't want to see that. Yeah, Quote.

Speaker 9 (37:47):
Yeah, that's a pretty sure fire statement.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Quote you don't want to see that. So we'll see
how that ends up working out along the way. Okay,
let's see cracking last night winners in New York on
the Island against the Islanders they're two and one their
four game road trip. Next up tonight, they're in New
Jersey in Newark to be exact, the home of media
Day for Super Bowl forty eight. Remember that day. That
was fun. They'll take out the Devils. That's a three

(38:09):
thirty pre game with the Captain Mike Benton, and it's
four o'clock face off with Everett and Al on the
Kraken Audio Network Network Central again three point thirty, right
after Softy and Dick Fain. Let's see Seahawks got that?
Got that. I don't think anything else I need, oh
should mention this. Washington State Interscholastic Athletic or Activities Association

(38:31):
WIA High School football Championships taking place at Husky Stadium
all day today, all day tomorrow. We'll have the three
A Championship tonight seven o'clock on nine to fifty AM.
Greg Bell, Chris Kidd on the call, Eastside, Catholic and Bellevue.
Tomorrow will have the four A Championship Camus taking on Sumner.
That's at seven o'clock. Mike Benton will have that for
you on nine to fifty on the AM dial. Good

(38:53):
at the Husky Stadium. Go see some great high school football.
We're proud to support that as well. It's a day late,
an hour earlier than normal, but the phone lines are
there and so are the texts. For mister Brandon Fundston.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
This is right on.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
There's a long past here.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
Side guy.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
He's the leading face of fantasy sports. Even though you
can't see him, trust us. It's time Forrian's weekly visit
with the Athletics Brendan Funston, brought to you by Zeke's
Pizza order online at zekespizza dot com on your home
for the NFL Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ

(39:29):
R FM.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Funston Funston, how are you, buddy? How are you doing?

Speaker 6 (39:38):
I'm coming to you a lot from Norfolk, Virginia. We're
out here trying to make the Athletics fantasy football coverage
even better. So we're working hard for everybody here.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
I love that. Don't get COVID like you did last time.
He did one of these little ventures, all right, yeah.

Speaker 6 (39:51):
Right right hand to blow my nose earlier today and
I started to freak out, but I think I'm okay.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Try to stay healthy for us along the way. Uh.
We appreciate you being flexible. We appreciate our listeners being flexible.
We just had it's been you know, when the Kraken
are playing these East Coast trips, it just changes everything.
If they could do it after football season, that would
be really beneficial for all of us. But instead you're
on to this for the most part, and you're in
a bunch of leagues and you're out there in this
this this seance with all these you know gurus, you

(40:19):
and Sealy and the rest of the athletic Fantasy football
staff by and large, this is it right week fourteen
is it for the regular season, and it is absolute
total crunch time right now.

Speaker 6 (40:30):
Yeah, Unfortunately, we're going to lose a few listeners after
this week to this, to this segment because yeah, this
is kind of it for the regular season, all the
marbles and like again, I know we've brought this up,
but the NFL, who seems to like be embracing fantasy,
kind of misses the boat here when they have six
teams on a buy in such an important week and
one of those teams is the Baltimore Ravens and Derek

(40:52):
Henry and Lamar Jackson. So it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
It's jayde Daniels with Washington, right du Yeah, I mean,
and it's it's amazing. They embrace gambling so much now. Yeah,
and fantasy football is they know it's there. I was
talking about with somebody's last night. We get the phone
calls in a second, but it is amazing. On top
of all of that, it's also you've got all these
teams that have gone thirteen weeks without a buye Like

(41:18):
that's brutal for a player like brutal, Like it just
makes makes.

Speaker 6 (41:22):
Doesn't make any sense. They need they need to figure
out how to get it, like all of it done
between like week five and ten, you know, and just
have it, you know, eighteen buys. If they have to
do it, just bite the bullet. But having it this
late in the season is weird for fantasy but also
seems weird for the NFL.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
It does all right without any further ado. You know
when I said in my apologies, I did say this.
I did I say Oday Eastside Catholics, Oday Bellevue. I
said that that's our game tonight. Yeah, I'm sorry, man,
my mind's a mess right now. Okay, let's go. We
start for They're all there, most of them. We might
be missing one. We'll see if he jumps on in
a second, but we'll start with Mike and Edmund's time. Mike, Hey, Mike,

(42:01):
first year. First of all, Mike, I heard you had
a you gotta have a you love this Fundston. Mike,
I heard you gotta gotta meet jessm in here a
couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 10 (42:10):
Yes, yes, last week we had my wife and I
came down Matt Dismond and and harassment and it was
it was a great time. We had a wonderful time.
Got a little cold, but that.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Was all right.

Speaker 10 (42:21):
I had hot chocolate. Yeah, it was all very good.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
I think that's all fund So that that warms my heart.
I don't know about you, buddy. That kind of warms
my heart right there, a little bit.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
Not their bucket list, you know.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
All right, Mike, what do you got for Brandon this week?

Speaker 10 (42:36):
Brandon were there? We could have we could have had
a real talk.

Speaker 11 (42:40):
Absolutely, all right.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
What do you well?

Speaker 10 (42:44):
I have a you know, I have my usual question.
I ain't evanced for about fifteen seconds here. I hope
every one of those in NFL schedule makers has a
fantasy football team, and every one of the gold arm
players is on by this week and have to forfeit
all of darn games.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
It is good. Amen, Amen, all right, what's your question?

Speaker 10 (43:09):
Okay, full PPR. I need to Jerry Judy, Juan Jennings,
DeVonta Smith or DeAndre Swift and thank you very much
for doing this to daylight but never always appreciated.

Speaker 6 (43:25):
Right, absolutely, yeah, And I don't know how you go
away from Jerry Judy. Cedric Tillman's out again. I mean,
he just put up huge numbers against Patrick Fortan. So
even though it's the Steelers and Joey Porter Jr. Like
just seems like they have a thing going on right there,
I would probably go with him. And Demanta Smith did
not have an injury designation to end the week, so

(43:47):
I guess he's clear. It's the Carolina Pans. They're probably good.
DeVonta Smith for the other one.

Speaker 2 (43:51):
All right, there you go, Thank you, Mike. That should
open up a line two six two eight six ninety
five ninety five our is our tool hitter there or not?

Speaker 9 (43:59):
Jess, You send me a name and I'll tell you.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
Well, is Ricky there?

Speaker 9 (44:05):
Okay, but there is a line open for Ricky.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Okay, Ricky gives a call, let's go down, let's head
to Bury in Washington, beautiful Bury in Washington. It's the
final week of the regular season. Oftentimes that means it's
the final week we hear from this gentleman, hopefully not
Rob and Buri And what's up, buddy?

Speaker 6 (44:22):
This horse craft of the season needs to come to
an end like right now?

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Well it's coming in on Sunday for you. Sounds like fella.

Speaker 6 (44:31):
Well with your head high, Rob, Well, we'll trying to
stay at the last place. So that's where we're at.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
Oh hey, funds and there's nothing like a last place?
Question is there? This is the best? What do you got? Rob?

Speaker 6 (44:47):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (44:48):
All right, So I need a defense for all you
clowns out there, Philly, Sinci or Atlanta.

Speaker 6 (44:55):
Well, Philly isn't my number two defense this week going
against Carolina that has been playing better, but it's still
I mean, Philadelphia's defense one of the best. I think
you're they're almost at a point where you just play
them every week. But against Carolina it's may see even better.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Okay, Rob, I hope I hope you call again next
week just for giggles, all right, buddy, just let us
know nothing, if nothing else, We want to find out
how you finish the season. All right, my friend, we'll
do Okay, there you go. That's right. It's just absolutely unbelievable.
Let's stay in Bury and Chris and Buriyen is up next.
Hike Chris.

Speaker 12 (45:28):
Hey, there, gentlemen, to be the opposite of my buddy
and buriy and we are at six straight wins thanks
to Brandon Fundson and the athletics. If I can do it,
you can too. Now, Brandon, you're pretty much already answered
my question, so if you could, for the rest of
the listeners, please rate the following wide receivers as I

(45:49):
do need one, but I'm pretty positive I already know
I'm supposed.

Speaker 11 (45:54):
To be starting Judy. But here are my available wide
receivers in a PPR full point league, uh Deavante Adams,
Jerry Judy, DeAndre Hopkins, and Jacoby Myers.

Speaker 6 (46:07):
Yeah, and Myers was a little bit up. I think
I would go Davante Adams, Jerry Judy, DeAndre Hopkins, Jacoby Myers.
If you get a really good it's close between Myers
and Hopkins. Who's Myers has a better matchup, So that
one's kind of a toss up for me, But definitely
Judy and Adams lead.

Speaker 2 (46:27):
The way there, beautiful perfect, Thank you. Next up, let's
go to Graham Washington, our favorite alliteration, Greg and Graham.
What do you got? Greg?

Speaker 8 (46:36):
Okay, Hey, I've got a full PPR me too, Isaac Garrindo,
Aaron Jones, Tyreek Hill, Nick Westbrook. Yeah, as much as
you know, the T street has been amazing, I put
that Nick west ricatine last. I mean gets two to

(46:56):
three catches a week. I know they're going for touchdowns,
but that will not have in every week. So I'm
gonna go with the guys, gonna get a lot of
volume for the forty nine ers in the backfield. Gurendo,
and you know what I'm gonna go with. I'm gonna
go with you had. Let's see who was Reford Tyreek
Hill's That's who I want?

Speaker 6 (47:14):
Oh, Aaron Jones, Aaron Jones, Teter Hill's, TERRYK. Hill's got
the toughest matchup for a fantasy receiver in the New
York Jets this week.

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Beautiful perfect, Thanks Greg. Let's go to Sultan Washington. We'll
first start with steven In. Sultan, steven In Sultan, you'rna
Brandon Foston.

Speaker 6 (47:32):
Hey, I need a quarterback this week. So I need
a quarterback Herbert Williams, Dino or Cousins this week. Herbert
Williams Do you know cous I'm just looking through my
rankings and I have Herbert as my number one guy.
A little bit tougher matchup at Casey, but he's been
playing well. I'd probably go Caleb Williams second. So there

(47:57):
you go.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
All right, let's stay in, Jess, Let's get Derek in.
Sultan Darren, you're Derek. You're on with our good friend
Brandon Funston.

Speaker 4 (48:07):
What's up Brandon?

Speaker 11 (48:08):
And hey, guys, Uh secured a first seed in one
of my leads, so thank you for that.

Speaker 6 (48:14):
That's the one I have all the Baltimore players in.
So that was a good time. But I I'm playing
for the playoffs to sneak into the playoffs this week
in my other league, so I need some help again.
I'm just gonna ask you Kyler Murray or Patrick Mahomes.
Thanks again, right, yeah, I have I have Kyler Murray

(48:35):
when I gets the Seahawks at home as as my
choice over Mahomes against the Chargers. They're they're they're kind
of close to my rankings, but I would definitely go Murray.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Okay, Uh, I do like that one. No, I don't
like that. I don't like that one at all, but
I understand your reasoning. Let's get two more in. Let's
go to eat them, Klaw, the Claw, Kyle and him.
Who what's up Kyle?

Speaker 6 (49:02):
Kyle from the club?

Speaker 10 (49:03):
Y you got me?

Speaker 6 (49:05):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (49:06):
You got me on a three game wedding street.

Speaker 6 (49:08):
I win.

Speaker 13 (49:08):
I'm in the playoffs, so I need it. I need
four point and I got I need to Wilson d Wilson,
I got Nick Chubb and shot.

Speaker 6 (49:27):
And were shod. Why well, you could get a you
could get a bonus.

Speaker 9 (49:31):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (49:31):
If Bucky Irving doesn't play, he's questionable.

Speaker 4 (49:34):
So Shakira is.

Speaker 6 (49:35):
Actually my favorite play there. Would probably go Garrett Wilson
number two unless you unless you hear before Sunday that
Bucky Irving isn't gonna play, then it's then it's one
hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
Get him, Go get him, Kyle and the Claw is
gonna go. He's gonna later to fills and have a beer.
Let's get to Uh. Let's see Woody in Shoreline. Woody
in Shoreline, your next up.

Speaker 6 (50:01):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (50:02):
Happy Friday to you Happy Friday.

Speaker 6 (50:05):
Awesome defense vikings for the Bills or Tampa. Actually have
Tampa as the number one defensive play this week, going
to said McConnell. And they're at home just like that one.
So the Raiders have been a very generous offense to

(50:26):
opposing defenses over the course of this year.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Okay, let's go two more real quick on the phone.
Jason and Marysville. Jason and Marysville. You're next up with
funds to go ahead?

Speaker 6 (50:36):
Yeah, I uh.

Speaker 13 (50:37):
It's so it's half way through the yard and you
get return yards. I need uh three, No two, Cabonda Turpent.

Speaker 10 (50:47):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (50:48):
Drake London, Jarrett Wilson or Keenan Allen.

Speaker 6 (50:54):
Yeah, I'm gonna you know what, the return yards are
a little bit Greek to me. I don't play in
any league. Actually I played in scott Fish Bowl League,
but I didn't draft worrying about return yards. So I'm
just gonna rank these. Drake London and your last guy
with Keenan Allen. I'll go Quenan Dow and he's been
hot lately, been playing very well. So give me London
and Keenan Allen.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
Boom perfect. Last phone call is Will up in Mount
Vernon and the MV the other MV will in Mount
Vernon fire away.

Speaker 6 (51:23):
Hey, I got two.

Speaker 12 (51:25):
I have Minnesota or Seahawks defense, and then in a
half point PPR Westbrook Akine or Nick Chubb.

Speaker 6 (51:36):
Let's go with Nick Chubb. I'm just gonna follow the volume.
I think he's gonna have a decent bounce back game
to frond the end zone last week. But I think
they're gonna give him more volume in this one. And
give me. You said Minnesota or Seattle. I want the
home team going against the quarterback and through five interceptions
last week, so give.

Speaker 2 (51:50):
Me the Vikings beautiful boom. All right, just hit the music.
Let's get some texts in here at four nine four
five one on the telemorted tech LINNS game time a
Stelly time. Need two of these half point PPR, DK, Rico, Dawnell,
Ceedee Lamb, Deebo Shakir Chewba Hubbard need two. Let's go.

Speaker 6 (52:12):
Yeah, I'm gonna go DK and Rico.

Speaker 2 (52:15):
Need two wides.

Speaker 6 (52:16):
I'm a little bit leary on Ceede Lamb just because
the other shoulder. Otherwise, I guess if CD Lamb plays,
give me both DK and CD over Rico okay.

Speaker 2 (52:26):
And just do you have the one from yesterday? I do, okay,
I'll let you get those. I'll let you finish things
off with yesterday's text because we did have a couple
of people that we're gonna take care of. Need two
wide receivers, Marvin Harrison, Lad McConkey, Davante Smith, and Juwan Jennings.
That's from Dan and Nisquad.

Speaker 6 (52:43):
I'm gonna go Marvin Harrison and Davante Smith. I don't
trust Lad McConkie's dealing with multiple injuries, and I wouldn't
be surprised if he's a late scratch. If he does go,
it's a tough matchup's case he's not healthy.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
Our buddy, Ben says Winston Stafford or Levice.

Speaker 6 (53:01):
Looking at my Levis. Levis is my guy against the
Jacksonville Jaguars. It's one of the best matches you can get.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Let's see, I need two from the two five three
half point PPR. Cooper Cup, Mike Evans or Tony Pollard.

Speaker 6 (53:16):
I'm gonna go Cooper Cup and Tony Pollard. Mike Evan's
still dealing with a hamstring issue. That could be a
game time decision.

Speaker 2 (53:24):
Let's see full PPR Kelsey or Aughton.

Speaker 6 (53:29):
Oh gosh, I have Kelsey ranked two spots ahead of Aughton.
But it's gonna be a good week for Otten.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
I have a feeling two oh six George Kittle Kate Aughton.

Speaker 6 (53:41):
Kittle is one spot ahead of Kelsey, so I gotta
go Kittle again.

Speaker 2 (53:44):
But I really like hot Judy Pickens DK or Keenan Allen.
Need to between Judy Pickens DK and Keenan Allen need
two of those?

Speaker 6 (53:54):
Yeah, give me Pickens and give me DK slightly at
a Judy.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
This is a guy needing a first round win for
a first round by full point PPR. Jennings or dowbtell
that Juwan Jennings, I.

Speaker 6 (54:09):
Gotta go Rico Dallas. He's running well in the match
of against the Bengals. Not hasn't been tough for based
on paper for fantasy.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
You don't like my guy this week? You don't like
my guy. You don't like my guy, Juwan James. What's
wrong with you? Come on?

Speaker 6 (54:21):
I actually kind of like him, but I actually, yeah,
I think that you know that snow game people are
kind of gonna come down too horsely on all the
forty nine have a decent.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
Back Herbert or Caleb Williams.

Speaker 6 (54:34):
I'll go with Justin Herbert.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
Question for fund said Naji Harris or the newly crowned
running back, Isaac Gernado.

Speaker 6 (54:43):
I'll go with I go with Glrendo. Also another thing,
it looks like brief Hall is probably not going to play,
so Braylen Allen the rookie. Good match up against the Dolphins.
They haven't been tough against the run, So if he's
out there, I would scramble out there and get Braylen Allen.

Speaker 2 (54:58):
Herbert or no See Deebo or Keenan Allen Deebo or
Keenan Allen.

Speaker 6 (55:03):
Let's go Keenan Allen.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
Get a couple more here, Brayleen Allen, Gus Edwards, Tank Brisbee, Bigsby,
Jerome Ford, Elijah Moore full point PPR. He needs two
of those. Brayleen Allen, Gus Edwards, Bigsby, or Ford or
Elijah Moore. Need two.

Speaker 6 (55:19):
I'm gonna go to the book ends there, definitely Brailen Allen,
and then I'm gonna go with Elijah Moore. With Cedric
Tillman still out, he's been stepping out all right.

Speaker 2 (55:27):
I'm gonna get a couple more here, Jess, and I'll
let you get the ones from from yesterday at noon.
O'kay we have a couple at noon yesterday, Ridley or Judy.

Speaker 6 (55:38):
Actually, Ridley's got a great matchup this week, gonna I'm
gonna go with Ridley there.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Andrews is on a biasays David so Ferguson Disley or comment.

Speaker 6 (55:48):
Let's I don't think Jake Ferguson is going to be
my call on that one pretty decent matchup and he
has been cleared for coming back from the concussion.

Speaker 2 (55:56):
All right, final one? Three of these five Brail and
Allen Nause, Harris Grendo, Garrett Wilson, Melik Neighbors. Three of five.

Speaker 6 (56:07):
Okay, I'm gonna go with the two rookie running backs
Isaac Garendo and Braylen Allen and Malik Neighbors as the third.

Speaker 2 (56:14):
So no Wilson and no Harris right Wilson. All right, Jess,
what you got? Okay?

Speaker 9 (56:20):
I got a few some of these they actually got
them in again today two, five, three, you need to
do a j Brown, Drake London, Elik Neighbors are js N.

Speaker 6 (56:29):
I'm gonna go in that actually gonna go in that order. Actually,
I would probably go Jason ahead of Neighbors. But I
want the first two you mentioned there.

Speaker 2 (56:37):
Okay, for to London, got it? Four? Two five?

Speaker 9 (56:41):
Need to p Checko, Tyrone, Tyrone, Tracy, Gus Edwards, and
then the newly crowned running back Isaac Gorondo.

Speaker 6 (56:50):
We need two of those. I'm gonna go with Gonna
go with Tracy and Grendo. I have assumed Pa Checko
is gonna get more run, but I don't know if
he's gonna be complete bell Cow yet, so it's probably
still sharing a little bit with kream Hunt.

Speaker 1 (57:04):
All right.

Speaker 9 (57:05):
This from Keith Miller full point PPR. The guy who
includes PPR and quarterback questions or the guy who needs
only one from a list of six players, Happy holidays,
figured it out. I'd get that one in there.

Speaker 2 (57:18):
Here we go.

Speaker 9 (57:19):
Half point PPR. This from the three six oh DeVante Adams,
Calvin Ridley, Nick Westbrook.

Speaker 6 (57:26):
Monte Adams, Calvin Ridley, Nick west I'm gonna go with
Calvin Ridley.

Speaker 2 (57:31):
All right, give me one more, Jess one more.

Speaker 9 (57:33):
Okay, hold on, let me find one. Two six half
point PPR. Need two of these four Funston Tyrone, Tracy,
Jacoby Myers, DK Metcalf, and Garrett Wilson.

Speaker 6 (57:46):
I'm gonna go with Tyrone, Tracy and DK Metcalf.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
All right, perfect, Oh this this one just came in
Jim with two ms from Maple Valley, number one seed
by two games, taking of playing No one foughts.

Speaker 4 (57:57):
What a jerk.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
I don't need him. That's our buddy sold by Comences
Corporate Smith.

Speaker 6 (58:02):
That is a flex right there.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
That's a flex. That is such a flex. I'm gonna
go get back to the neighborhood. I'm gonna walk over
his house and punch him in the face. Actually, about
five guys listening right now will probably beat me to
the punch. All right. Fundsted For people that didn't get
their question to answered, how can they do it?

Speaker 6 (58:19):
Yeah, you can go to the Athletic go to the
fantasy football pages. We got the rankings and all kinds
of stuff to get you ready for week fourteen. That
all important Week fourteen. And so yeah, and I always
say we have a guy that will answer a bunch
of questions right before kickoff in a live Q and A.
So if you want to, if you want to jump
in last minute, you can do that as well.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
Hey man, thanks for being flexible. Thanks to our listeners.
I can't the volume of texts and phones never ceases
to amaze. Even a day late and an hour earlier,
it was amazing. You guys are crazy, but we love
you for it. Funds, and we'll talk to you regular
time next week, buddy, Thank you.

Speaker 6 (58:53):
Appreciate you guys. Good luck to everyone.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
There you go, that's Brandon Funds. We'll take a break. Hey,
We've got a huge, huge weekend of college football conference
chamampionship games. One guy to break it down as it
relates to the NFL Draft and your Seattle Seahawks, Rob
Rang brought to you by Ferrelli's Pizza.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
Coming up next as part of our never ending coverage
of the NFL. It's time for Ian's weekly visit with
Rob Rang from Foxsports dot Com, brought to you by
Ferrelli's Pizza on your home for the twelfth Man and
the NFL. Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (59:25):
All right, welcome back in Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJRFM. He interronts with you and join now, just
at different time because we got a short show again
today with Krack and playing on the East Coast. Our
friend Rob rang joins us Fox sports dot Com championship
weekend in college football. Rob, how are you, my friend?

Speaker 4 (59:43):
I'm doing very well time of year. How are you?

Speaker 2 (59:46):
I'm good. I love this time of year, and I
mean at the controversy, the bickering amongst those who think
they should be in who shouldn't be in. Uh, But
there's a lot of players to watch, a lot of
good teams to watch this weekend. And we've we've got
game starting today tonight UNLV Boise State in the Mountain
West Championship game. That's a five o'clock game on Fox basically,

(01:00:09):
except I think it kind of feels like it took
the place of the old PAC twelve championship game on
Fox on Friday night, isn't it? UNLV take it on
Boise State. Let's talk about some of the guys we're
watching in that game. I'm gonna get to an outside
linebacker from you and LV in a seconds. We haven't
talked about him yet this season, but we have to
start with a guy that's going to be in New
York next week. He'll be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

(01:00:30):
Let's start with Ashton Genty.

Speaker 14 (01:00:33):
Yeah, Ashton Genty is the best running back in the
tench We've talked about him on multiple occasions. I mean
he's but he's If there's any player this year, I
who is worth talking about, and virtually every time that
we get a chance to catch up with each other,
it is Boise States running back Ashton Chanty means five
to tens, two hundred and twenty pounds. He's got electric speed,

(01:00:53):
and not just the forty yard dash type of speed,
just his elusiveness. He's got power, He's got leg dry vision.
He is the total package. He is that rare running
back who deserves Heisman Trophy consideration, deserves a top ten
overall selection. I think that he's got a real, real
shot he's got I don't have a Heisman Trophy vote Ian,

(01:01:14):
but if I did, it would be going to the
Boise State running back. And again, I don't have a
number one overall pick, you know, or the a top
ten NFL draft pick in my pocket either.

Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
But if I did, and I need a running back, I.

Speaker 14 (01:01:25):
Would feel very strongly about making Ashton Jenkson that selection.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
I'm gonna I do have a Heisman vote. I can't
say who I'm voting for. But I'll just say this,
I really like Boise States running back. He's a really
good player. UNLC. Right, Yeah, he's all right. UNLV's outside
linebacker Jackson Woodard is who he'll be seeing. Is that
a little matchup you're watching for? What kind of what
kind of player? I see him? Here's the thing, Rob,

(01:01:49):
I see, you know, outside linebacker Jackson Woodard. You know,
draft potential all these things. Is he a Seahawk outside
linebacker in the mold of Shennanuosu or Derek hallboy Mafey
or see a guy a stack linebacker playing like a
will position.

Speaker 14 (01:02:03):
Yeah, he's more of that will position, kind of a
linebacker Old Pete Carroll kind of dropped back and you know,
more of a weak side linebacker playing coverage. Can come
up and support the run as well. But this is
a a young man who's got four interceptions so far
this season.

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
That was one of the knocks on his game previously.

Speaker 14 (01:02:22):
Is okay, you know he can support the run, but
Canny also dropped back in the coverage and that is
where he has made huge strides.

Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
I mentioned the four interceptions.

Speaker 14 (01:02:30):
He has nine path breakups as well, just as a
real savbiness about him. Six foot three, two hundred and
thirty pounds, so he's not the two hundred and fifty
five to hundred and sixty pounder that you're looking at
more Mike McDonald's system as the outside rushing linebacker, but
he can rush the quarterback as well. And this is
a guy that like many of his UNLV teammates that

(01:02:51):
they were former SEC players. He was at Arkansas followed
the head coach Barry Odom, who is Arkansas's defensive coordinator.
Previous was Missouri's head coach, followed Otam to UNLV. In
the last two years, he has been first team All
Mountain West. This year he was the Mountain West Defensive
Player of the Year. His season high tackles came in

(01:03:15):
the previous matchup between UNLV and Boise State one that
went down to the wire Boise State one, but Jackson
Woodard wound up with fourteen tackles in that game, a
couple of tackles for loss. I expect him to put
up those similar numbers in this game. I still think
that Boise State's gonna likely wind up winning this football game.
That said, UNLV has some defensive players who are very

(01:03:37):
worthy of NFL draft consideration would probably been the best
of them. They've got a stafety Jordan Catalan, another former
Arkansas player that followed Otum to UNLV. Again, we haven't
seen multiple players drafted out of UNLV in a couple
of decades now, and so I'm super excited about this
football game and the fact that UNLV is a right

(01:04:00):
in program.

Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
More comes to the NFL draft.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Prospects, and by all accounts, this is a you know,
win and you're in the college football Playoff. You lose
and you're probably gonna drop out. Boise State may be
on the CUSP, but we'll see. UNLV has to win
to get in, and if they do, there's no doubt
the Mountain West Conference champ will be the highest rated
UH group of house, highest ranked power, a group of four,
playoff group of five, I should say, team in the country,

(01:04:23):
and they'll get in nine o'clock tomorrow morning, Saturday morning.
I Aoway State, Arizona State. I'm gonna talk about it.
I Alway State's cornerback. In a second. That's Darien Porter.
You wrote about him in Fox sports dot com this week.
We'll send a link out to that story just real
quick though. I mean, we throw a lot of flowers
up Ashton Genti's way. I love camp Scataboo. Man. I
don't know what kind of NFL prospect he is if
guys are talking about him, but tell me about camp

(01:04:45):
Scataboo because he is. Honestly, he's the reason Arizona State's
in the title game.

Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
No question about it. I mean he is one of
my favorite players. Uh yeah, this is a guy who is.

Speaker 14 (01:04:55):
Very similar size in terms of very size to Ashton
genty five to ten to fifteen, two hundred and twenty pounds.
He's not gonna run anything like Ashton genty I'm expecting
more or something in the high.

Speaker 4 (01:05:09):
Four fives, low four to sixes. And I don't care.
Camascattibu his his power. He also has some illusives too.
He can make people miss in a phone booth. But
at the same time.

Speaker 14 (01:05:21):
He isn't He doesn't have that true breakaway speed too,
and that's why he began his college career at Sacramento State.

Speaker 4 (01:05:27):
But he just does everything well.

Speaker 14 (01:05:29):
He catches the ball, he blocks, He's played the defense before.
He is an outstanding special teams player. Maybe it's lazy
to compare him to other versatile players in the NFL,
like a Taysom Hill or a Kyle Hughes check of
the San Francisco forty Ninds. But that's the type of
versatile player.

Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
I think Cam Scattabo is. I think then with.

Speaker 14 (01:05:50):
All said and down, as we talked about before, Ashton
Jenty's gonna wind up being a top ten selection. I
think Cam Scattabo is gonna wind up being selected somewhere
on Day three, fifth, sixth round. But somebody's gonna get
themselves a longtime NFL pro, in my opinion, in scatter
Bow and again one of the players that plays multiple positions,
who's basically keeping you an extra roster spot because of

(01:06:10):
his versatility.

Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
Okay, I want to run out of time here, so
let's get to always. He's got a cornerback, Darian Porter,
you like a lot too.

Speaker 14 (01:06:17):
I do you know we mentioned Pete Pete Carroll before
with Jackson Wonder. Pete Carroll would absolutely love Darian Pork
six four, two hundred pounds. You know, I think he's
probably got thirty four to thirty five inch arms. He's
a former wide receiver. He just looks the part of
a Pete Carroll press corner. And he's a guy who
only has been a starter at the cornerback spot one season,

(01:06:39):
yet already got an invitation to the Senior Bowl Scouts.

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
You're drewling about this young man's upside.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
All right, let me uh and Rob's got a whole
bunch of stuff up at Fox sports dot com again,
we'll tweet out, retweet or what do we call it
these days, repost the links to that in. Yeah, that's
what we're gonna do. But I do want to talk
about this player because I frankly haven't watched SMU play
much this year, but they've got an edge rusher, Elijah Roberts,
that you really like. They're playing a Saturday night five o'clock.

(01:07:04):
Of course, they're playing Clemson. That game has a ton
of implications. Clemson needs to win to get in. SMU
is probably in already. If Clemson wins, that might push
Alabama out. Everyone will be happy about that. Could Miami
jump up? Who knows? All right, So let's talk about
Elijah Roberts, the edge rusher from SMU, to wrap things up.

Speaker 4 (01:07:23):
Yeah, he's an interesting player.

Speaker 14 (01:07:25):
You know, it's kind of ironic that he might be
able to push Miami out because he's a born and
raised Miami guy. Actually went to the Miami Hurricanes the
four star recruits and barely got onto the props or
bearing onto the playing field.

Speaker 4 (01:07:36):
I should say, I'm over his.

Speaker 14 (01:07:38):
First three seasons there transfers SMU and is instantly a
dominant player, and you can.

Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
Just see that.

Speaker 14 (01:07:44):
I think he is a little bit more committed to
his craft because there are still some kind of wild
card plays where or he hasn't played with the Grayson technique.

Speaker 4 (01:07:54):
But my gigness and he is a physical.

Speaker 14 (01:07:56):
Player and he's got a closing speed to him that, yeah,
I'm a sucker for that. He's got five forced fumbles
over his career. He has got fourteen sacks over the
last couple of seasons.

Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
So it's really.

Speaker 14 (01:08:08):
Starting to kind of come along in that regard. And
you know, he doesn't have a lot of talent around him.
But at the same time, at six foot four, two
hundred and ninety pounds, and again it's the power with
which he plays with, he is able to kind of
weigh his way through blocks and then when he sees
the ball, he just shows.

Speaker 4 (01:08:25):
A late burst to close and it kind of.

Speaker 14 (01:08:27):
Surprises quarterbacks and running backs with how quickly, how forcefully
he arrives. That's why the ball skins like it's always
on the ground whenever this guy's around. So Elijah Roberts
number five for SMU, and there's a lot of folks
out there when they think of the AC seed and
certainly not thinking about Elijah robertson SMU. But SMU is
actually a two and a half point favorite in this

(01:08:47):
football game, and as you said, even in a loss,
they may still be in the College football playoffs. Certainly
if they beat Clemson, push out of Alabama, push out
to Clems and push out some of the other teams
are more well known than ask MU Mustangs, and that's

where he projects him going.

Speaker 14 (01:09:14):
Yeah, I personally think he is more of a middle

to be critical how he performs in this game. That's

All Star game that is, play well there and then
impressed in the workouts, in the and in the interviews.
