How Will I Know When I'm Happy?

EPISODE 6 - This week’s Stranger introduces the concept of “happiness” as a belief system that he has possibly opted out of.

 Pitched to Americans as a sustainable state of being that we are ever to chase, broken in the absence of, and one purchase away from achieving. We can all see that this is a set-up. 

Instead, he offers some alternate concepts to examine.

• Viewing happiness in relationship to its opposite allows us to recognize it when it’s here.
• Was humanity built to function with ongoing sustained happiness?
• Should we even strive for happiness or be motivated by other goals?
• Are we defining “Happiness,” and is it best that we focus on serenity or joy instead?

 

But “Happy” comes with a rush that joy does not imply. Who doesn’t love that sugar-high dopamine drama that happiness brings when it shows up?  So, how do we go about getting it without sounding foolish?
