La relatividad general predijo la existencia de agujeros negros pero durante décadas no se sabía si esos objetos eran reales o no, hubo observaciones desde los años 60 pero no eran concluyentes y el debate continuó hasta los años 90 cuando Jorge Casares tuvo la oportunidad de confirmar un agujero negro real.
