Today I want to share a letter I found in an old journal of mine from college. It’s dated January 27, 1996. I remember reading this letter at the final Chapter meeting I attended for the sorority I was in at the time. I don’t know how it is now, but when I was in college, it was unheard of for people to leave a sorority or fraternity. That is referred to as deactivation and it completely removes your affiliation with the organization. (Technically some of the female organizations we refer to as sororities are actually fraternities so don’t get confused when I refer to the organization I was in 26 years ago as a fraternity.) What You’ll Learn: - Why I initially joined the fraternity

- Why I changed my mind and decided to leave the fraternity

- What I said to the Chapter members during my final meeting

- How I felt leading up to the moment I read the letter to the Chapter

- How rare it was for me to give myself permission to change my mind and walk away from something Most of the time we do not give ourselves permission to change our minds, and we don't let ourselves walk away from many things. That contributes to us filling our time with many unfulfilling things. And remember, for everything you say yes to, there's something else that you're saying no to. So on your journey to have a more balanced life, you need to be able to change your mind and walk away from some things.
