He made his screen debut in an episode of BBC’s anthology series ‘Play for Today’. A year later, he had his cinematic debut in the indie comedy ‘Privates on Parade’. In 1984, Sands landed his breakthrough role of Gerald in the television miniseries ‘The Sun Also Rises’.
