“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” ~ Jeremiah 17:7-8

When life seems like it's unraveling, trusting God changes everything. Sometimes life looks like a tangled knot—so twisted and confusing you can’t tell front from back. You’re walking through a season where everything feels upside down: plans fall apart, circumstances feel out of control, and fear tries to sneak in.

But if there’s one thing Jeremiah 17:7-8 teaches us, it’s this:

When you trust God, you’re planted deeply, rooted firmly, and unshakeable—even when the world feels like it’s falling apart.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
— Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

Trust Means Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

Paul’s reminder in 2 Corinthians 5:7 couldn’t be clearer:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

When the path ahead looks blurry, and your natural instincts scream “run” or “give up,” walking by faith means you choose to believe the unseen promises of God over your confusing circumstances.

It’s choosing to say, “God, I don’t have the answers today, but I do know You are good. I do know You are faithful.” That kind of faith anchors your soul like a tree by the water, refusing to be swayed by drought, storm, or scorching heat.

God Is Unchanging, Steady, and Faithful

The world shifts—the job changes, relationships strain, health falters—but God remains the same:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

Your Father’s character is your firm foundation. When your surroundings feel like quicksand, His faithfulness is the solid ground beneath your feet.

The psalmist confidently declares:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)
Even when you don’t see the way forward clearly, He is leading you gently and purposefully.

What Happens When You Trust God?

  • Your roots grow deeper. Like the tree Jeremiah talks about, your foundation grows strong by drawing life-sustaining nourishment from God’s presence (John 15:5).
  • You bear fruit even in drought. Your faith produces peace, joy, and strength that defy circumstances (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Fear loses its grip. Trust in God pushes back anxiety because you know He’s in control (Isaiah 41:10).
  • You live with hope and endurance. You keep moving forward, confident that God is working all things for your good (Romans 8:28).
