From a marriage perspective: Your spouse doesn't just get the good of you. Your spouse gets the bad and especially the ugly.

Hashtag TRUTH!!

But we have to be real in order to be present. And with our presence, that's when things begin to shift.

So think back to the good ole days where your sweetheart could do no wrong in your eyes. Fast forward to today, and every day your sweetheart does something wrong.

We tend to look for what we want, not what we have. And what we have is never enough.

Hashtag disagreements, arguments, fights.

It's the everyday struggle in marriage.

But instead of giving yourself permission to see what you don't have, why not look at what you do have and see the good side?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Create new memories in new seasons!

Let's go shopping for a moment, the old-fashion way; in person. You get out of your car and gather your bag and phone locking the car door behind you. As you round the backend of your car, a reflection catches your eyes from the ground. It's a penny!

Find a penny, pick it up, all day long, you'll have good luck.

But have you ever really looked at that penny. The side exposed to the tires, wind, sun, and rain is dirty and not in great shape.

Turn the penny over, and there are a few indentations from being run over, but there is still a shine to the penny.

That's just like marriage. There are times where you are covered in the mud and muck of life. Yet there still is a shiny spot; where you can smile at each other and see the love in your eyes.

It's during these penny moments where marriages are put to the test. You can flip the penny and get to the other side.

Create new memories in new seasons.

  1. Speak truth. You need to know exactly where your marriage stands. Don't sugar coat it. Be honest with yourself. "Speak truth because you can't work with a lie." ~ Kristianne Wargo
  2. Look for the beauty. See the diamond in the rough. No marriage is perfect. "Beauty comes from the search, not the expectation." ~ Kristianne Wargo It's easy to set expectations for your spouse, but that can become a failure trap. When you are looking for beauty, you are looking for the shiny side up.
  3. Know the journey traveled. You need to embrace how far you have come, even the littlest of change. "When you can see the positive, that lessens the negative." ~ Kristianne Wargo  No longer are you focused on what you don't want. You appreciate what you do have.

Your marriage does not have to be perfect. In fact, it's better your marriage is not because that's where the little miracles are born. You get to reap the rewards of your hard work as an individual supporting and loving your spouse, and as a couple!

If your marriage is rocky today, don't give up. If you find yourself fighting and disagreeing more than cuddling, don't give up. If you are struggling with finances and how to pay the bills, don't give up.
