What does this Florida school teacher have against mocking jays?
Welcome back to Crying In My Car, a podcast for teachers! Our hosts Devin Siebold and James Yon are going to be hyper fixated on animals. From 90s cartoons like Scooby Doo, school mascots, and state birds, they are obsessed, and you wouldn't believe what they have to say about them.
When you think of school mascots, there are a couple of things that come to mind, like tigers, eagles, patriots, stuff like that; but you're not going to believe the new mascot in Florida schools. We don't want to give too much away, but let's just say, it was definitely a bold choice.
Speaking of mascots, one specific teacher has been on a crusade recently about the Florida state bird. Talk about being passionate, this argument has been going on for a whopping 25 years! But at the end of the day, does this debate finally end up somewhere?
Now we take a break from talking about education, and reminisce about our favorite 90s cartoons. But when you really think about it, what is the impact that these cartoons had on children's mental health? And how does this regularly scheduled programming differ from modern social media and the free access to entertainment? Tune in to hear our take!
