Welcome back to the Empower Her Business Accelerator podcast! I’m your host, Philippa Channer, and we’re continuing our April deep dive into content pillars.

Last week in Episode 174, we explored how to define your content pillars and set the foundation for a focused, strategic marketing approach. If you missed that one, go ahead and give it a listen—it’s the perfect lead-in to what we’re diving into today.

Because having clear content pillars is great… but how do you make sure those pillars are actually working for your business?

That’s exactly what we’re unpacking in Episode 175: how to align your content pillars with your business goals so your content doesn’t just look good—it drives real results.

Your Content Should Do More Than Engage
It should perform. If you’re pouring time and energy into content but still feel like your business isn’t growing, it might be because your content isn’t aligned with what you’re really trying to achieve.

This week, I walk you through 5 essential steps to ensure that every piece of content you create supports your goals—whether that’s growing your list, boosting your visibility, or increasing sales.

Here’s a breakdown of what we covered:

(01:00) Why Alignment Matters
Your content pillars should be the foundation of your strategy—but they also need to tie directly to your goals. When that alignment is missing, you end up with scattered messaging and wasted effort.

(02:00) Step 1: Identify Your Business Goals
Start by revisiting your current goals. Do you want to drive more leads? Boost brand visibility? Increase course sales? Every pillar should have a direct connection to these goals.
Action Step: Write down your top 3 business goals and brainstorm how content could help achieve each one.

(03:00) Step 2: Audit Existing Content for Alignment
Take a look at what you’ve already created. Is it helping move the needle—or just taking up space?
Action Step: Do a quick content audit. Categorize your existing pieces by pillar and see which ones tie to your goals.

(03:45) Step 3: Create Goal-Focused Content Pillars
For each pillar, develop ideas that serve a clear business objective.
Action Step: For example, if “female entrepreneurship” is one of your pillars and your goal is to sell a coaching program, create content that addresses common struggles your clients face—then tie it back to your program.

(04:00) Step 4: Incorporate Strong Calls to Action (CTAs)
Every piece of content should

It should also move theneedle of your business.

All right.
Now let's get into how to align yourcontent pillars with your business goals.
First, let's start offwith why alignment matters.
Your content pillars guide whatyou create, but without aligning

(01:14):
them to your business goals, yourisk creating content that feels
scattered or doesn't deliver results.
When your content supports your goals,it becomes a powerful tool for driving
growth and keeping your brand consistent.
Now, there's a few steps youneed to take to align your
content pillars with your goals.
The first step is to identify your goals.
What is it?

(01:35):
Start by revisiting your business goals.
These might include increasingrevenue, building brand awareness,
or expanding your email list.
Wherever you are in your businessright now, you have some goals
that you're reaching for.
So let's start with what those are.
This matters because each goal shouldinform one or more of your content
pillars, ensuring that your contentdirectly supports your broader strategy.

(01:57):
An example of this is if your goalis to grow your email list, one of
your content pillars might focuson lead magnets or free resources.
This encourages signups.
Your action step here is to writedown your top three business
goals and brainstorm how yourcontent can help achieve them.
Again, if you need helpwith this, refer to episode,

(02:18):
if you need further help with this, check out episode 161 for tips
on identifying the right metricsand goals for your business.
The next step in this process isto evaluate your current content.
Look at the content you'vealready created and assess how
well it aligns with your goals.
This matters because identifying gapsor misaligned content is going to help

(02:40):
you refine your strategy moving forward.
So an example of this is if yourgoal is to build brand authority, but
most of your content is promotional, you may need to create more
educational or value driven pieces.
So your action step here is toconduct a very quick content audit
and categorize your existing piecesby pillars and goal alignment.

(03:01):
The next step in this process is tocreate goal focused content pillars.
What this is, is for each pillar, outline specific content ideas that
directly tie back to your business goals.
This matters because it ensures that everypiece of content you create has a purpose
and contributes to your objectives.
If one of your pillars is femaleentrepreneurship and your goal is to

(03:24):
increase sales of a coaching program, plan blog posts or videos that address
common challenges your ideal clientfaces, linking them back to your program.
The next step in creating contentpillars that align with your goals
is to incorporate call to actions.
Every piece of content should includea clear next step for your audience.
Whether it's signing up foryour email list, booking a

(03:46):
call, or purchasing a product.
This matters because your CTA, yourcall to action, is going to connect
your content to tangible outcomes, turning engagement into results.
example of this is at the end of a podcastepisode, you can direct listeners to a
free resource or encourage them to booka one on one call similar to what I do.

(04:07):
Your action step in this is toreview your content and ensure every
piece includes a relevant and goaloriented call, CTA, or call to action.
The fifth step in aligning yourcontent pillars with your business
goals is to measure and adjust.
Regularly track the performance of yourcontent to see if it's meeting our goals.
Adjust your strategybased on what's working.

(04:29):
This matters because consistentevaluation ensures that your
content remains effective andaligned with your objectives.
An example of this is if a particularpillar isn't driving results, you
want to reassess the topics orthe format within that pillar.
So formats meaning if you're doingvideos or if you're not doing videos, if
you're doing infographics, whatever itis that you're doing, maybe that delivery

(04:53):
method is not the best for that topic.
Alright, so your action step here is toset up analytic tools to monitor metrics
like engagement, conversions, and traffic.
If you need help on this, checkout episode 171 for tips on
measuring your content ROI.
Now, aligning your content pillarswith your business transforms your

(05:14):
content from a creative exerciseinto a strategic powerhouse.
By following these steps, you'llensure that every piece of content
works towards building the businessand the brand you envision.
Thanks so much for tuning in today.
Next week, we're going to beexploring how to create engaging
content around each of your pillars.
A crucial skill for keeping youraudience connected and inspired.

(05:36):
And remember the self paced EmpowerHerprogram is here to help you implement
these strategies all on your own time.
Sign up today using the link inthe show notes and let's take your
business to the next level together.
Until next time, keep shiningand remember your content pillars
