Hey Family Brand! It’s Chris here with a solo episode for you today while Melissa is out of town with one of our daughters. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about a simple phrase I came across: “Do better, get better.” It hit me in a powerful way, and I’ve been sharing it with my team, our clients, my family—really anyone who will listen. Today, I want to share it with you, because it has the potential to shift everything in your life, just like it has for me.
This all started when I read a story about a waiter who received a tip that wasn’t money at all. Instead, the customer had just written two words on the receipt: “Do better.” At first, he was angry. But then, he made a choice. He could take it as an insult or take it as a challenge—and he chose the latter. He stepped up, pushed himself, and ended up getting more tips, more recognition, and more fulfillment in his job. His life literally started getting better because he decided to do better.
That story stuck with me. It reminded me how much time I’ve spent trying to get other people to change—whether it’s in our marriage, parenting, business, or friendships. But the truth is, the biggest shifts have always happened when I focused on improving myself. When I get better, everything else gets better. My relationships, my results, my mindset—it all improves when I take responsibility and grow.
I’ve been encouraging our clients and team members to take this to heart too. What’s one area in your life where you could do better? Not because you’re broken or failing—but because you deserve to grow. Because getting better isn't about shame or pressure. It's about honoring your value and choosing to live into your potential.
So my challenge to you this week is this: pick one thing in your life—just one—that you want to get better at. Maybe it’s communication, your health, your mindset, your marriage, or something at work. Commit to doing a little better this week. And then just notice what happens. You might be surprised at how quickly things start to shift.
