and that familiar financial anxietytries to creep right back in?
What's your ultimate anchorwhen circumstances feel shaky?
Stick with me today 'cause I'm gonnashare with you today how to find that
(00:22):
unshakeable peace in Jesus himself.
Hello and welcome back to your DailyFinancially Confident Christian.
(00:43):
I'm Ralph, and as always, I'mhonored to be a part of your day.
It's great to be with you again.
We continue our journey today answeringthat very, very difficult question.
How can I become a financiallyconfident Christian?
We're continuing in our seriesBeyond the Budget, finding Financial
Freedom through Intentional Living.
(01:04):
We covered contentment.
We've talked about gratitude, and yesterday we talked
about value aligned spending.
And I hope you're reallystaying up with this series.
And if you missed any of them, I'llencourage you to go back and listen.
today we're gonna cover how doestrusting God anchor my finances
beyond earthly treasures?
We're really gonna reach beyondwhat is here in the present and
(01:24):
all the stuff that surround us.
' cause as I said at the beginning, maybe you've done all the right things.
You're saying to me, Ralph, I Ido, I do all the things you say.
I budget Ralph, I do thethings you talked about Ralph.
I save, I have thatemergency savings fund.
I, I paid off my debtsand now I'm avoiding debt.
I'm doing all those things gr but,but then, but then I have a job loss.
(01:49):
My spouse has a job loss or,or maybe we have an emergency.
Just something we weren't expectingwhere you have some unexpected bills
we just weren't planning for, andthen suddenly when that happens, that
fear that you work so hard to break.
It just swims right backand it just fills you.
Again, that fear just returns, andeven with all the planning you're
(02:13):
doing, doing all the right things, that fear just feels overwhelming.
And I think I know the problemtoday, and I want you to hear
me loud and clear on this.
The problem for most people issecurity is rooted in money.
Or it's rooted in controland it's not rooted in God.
And when things aren't rooted in God,let me just tell you something right
(02:34):
now, that peace that you think you'reworking towards, if it's not rooted
in God, it makes that peace, fragile.
One little thing, the job loss, the unexpected bill, that family
emergency, it makes it fragile.
It makes a conditional, and the worst part.
It makes it fleeting.
It just goes away when there's an issue.
(02:55):
And here's the thing Ineed you to hear today.
Stewardship is essential.
All the things I talk about on theshow every day are essential components
to living that, that financial piecewe talk about, But none of those
things, none of them is the anchor.
The only true anchor, the anchor thatwill be there in the storm is God.
(03:19):
God is that anchor.
Well, let's get to God's word.
Let's look at Matthewchapter six, verse 21.
' cause this sums it up betterthan I could ever say it
for where your treasure isthere, your heart will be also.
They're your heart.
(03:41):
Also where your treasure is.
And see, here's the problem.
If your heart treasures money, if ittreasures stuff, if treasures that
car, that house, that vacation home, those trips, all the stuff you see on
social media, if your heart treasuresthose things, you're always gonna
be vulnerable to that emergency, tothat unexpected, to that job loss,
(04:04):
to that crisis you weren't expecting.
On the other hand,
if it treasures Christ, then today,my friend, you've got an anchor that
will be there through the thick and thethin, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Let's look again at the Bible.
let's look at the book of Philippians, chapter four, verses six and seven says
(04:27):
this very eloquent, peace of scripture.
Do not be anxious.
Hey, we could stop right there.
Do not be anxious.
Okay, Ralph, you heard what?
But it goes deeper than that.
Do not be anxious with Thanksgiving.
Present your request toGod and the peace of God.
Peace, P-E-A-C-E.
(04:48):
That peace will guard yourhearts and your minds.
What do we take from that?
See, here's the thing I take from it.
Peace isn't tied to your bank balance.
It's not tied to how big your homeis or how nice your car is, or
how much is in your 401k, or howmuch you do for It doesn't matter.
Stuff doesn't matter.
(05:10):
Peace comes from surrender, surrendering it to God,
surrendering it to Christ himself.
It comes from faith, and it comesfrom God's presence in your life.
Trust in him.
Changes how we view our finances, even intimes of very, very difficult uncertainty.
Hey, if you're watching thenews right now, we are living
(05:31):
in times of uncertainty.
But let me just tell you right now, friend, if you've got an anchor in Christ,
I don't care what goes on around you.
So now you're thinking, wow, okay, what can we do?
How do we cultivate deeptrust in God financially?
No one's ever talked to me about that.
You made your case.
How do I do that?
How do I cultivate that deeptrust in God financially?
(05:55):
Well, here's how you do it.
Place your trust in God'sprovision and seek his peace daily.
It's a daily decision.
Anchor yourself spiritually,not circumstantially.
Hey, a lot of people are good Christians.
When things are going great, ohGod, hey, everything is going great.
I love you, Lord.
You're doing so much for me.
That's not spiritual anchoring, that's just circumstantiality.
(06:19):
And then when somethings happens, you, God, how could you do this to me?
So here's your action step for today, and this one's gonna take a little
courage, but I'm confident you can do it.
I want you to identify one corefinancial fear that you have.
Be specific about it.
Maybe it's a job loss debt,retirement inflation, and I
want you to write it down.
(06:39):
I'm gonna give you a few examples, but Write down what your one
core fear, financial fear is.
Maybe it's, I'm afraid I'll lose my joband won't be able to pay the mortgage.
Hey, I get it.
That's a fear.
Or I'm overwhelmed by credit carddebt and fear I'll never get out.
Hey, a lot of times I talk to myclients that are in their forties and
(07:00):
fifties, and the big fear they have isI worry I won't have enough save for
retirement, Ralph, that just worries me.
Keeps me up at night.
Here's one that's really timely.
Inflation is making everythingmore expensive, Ralph, and I'm
scared I won't be able to keep up.
Or maybe this one.
Listen, we've all been here.
I'm afraid a medical emergencywill ruin us financially.
(07:24):
So start right there.
Be specific.
Write down one core financial fearthat you have deep down in your heart.
And then the second thing I wantyou to do is just surrender it.
Just give it to God in prayer.
Find a quiet space and tell God that fear.
Just create a quiet moment andsay something like, father, I'm
worried about losing my job.
(07:45):
Not being able to provide for my family, and I just surrendered that fear to
you because I know you see me, youknow my needs and you are my provider.
Lord, help me trust you today and walkin faith, not fear or how about this one?
God, this debt feels like it's crushingme and I just don't see any way out.
But I believe you make a way where thereis no way, Lord and I surrender that fear
(08:09):
and ask you to guide me in my next step.
And just trust him with it.
So find that fear, surrender to God.
And then I just want youto do one more thing.
I want you to just meditate on a promise.
I'm gonna give you a couple Bible verses.
I want you to just choose one of theseverses and apply it to that fear.
We'll start with Matthew 621, for where your treasure is
(08:29):
there, your heart will be also.
So ask yourself, am I trustingin money more than God?
Hey, that's not an easyquestion to ask yourself.
It's a difficult question to answerif it is realign your heart with him.
Or how about Philippians chapterfour, verses six and seven?
We talked about this earlier.
Do not be anxious about anything.
(08:51):
The peace of God will guardyour hearts and your minds.
Write this on a sticky odor.
Make it your phone wallpaper, and thenas you start to feel those fears, just
repeat it when that fear creeps in.
Or how about this one?
I think this is one of thebest pieces of scripture.
Matthew Chapter 6 25 to 34.
I'm just gonna summarize it.
(09:11):
Do not worry about your life.
Your heavenly Father knows you need them.
He knows you need those things.
So each time a financial fear arises, readthat passage and say, God knows my needs.
The anchor knows my needs, and he provides for me.
Write it down.
Repeat it throughout theday when worry returns.
'cause this helps by replacingthat fear with your faith.
(09:34):
You can look at it, you can seeit, you can read it again and
again, and it anchors you intruth, not the world, not fear.
And it trains your heartto trust God first.
Trust God first.
Because today's exercise, today'saction stuff, it's practical
and it's deeply spiritual.
How about we pray together?
(09:56):
Father God, we just thank you for beingour provider and Lord, being our anchor in
the storm and the anchor when we need you.
And Lord, we have to confess that ourtendency to trust in money and fear
and loss, we tend to trust in that.
And Lord, we just ask you to helpus to treasure you above all else.
You know our anxieties, Lord, so sootheour anxieties with your presence.
(10:18):
Guard our hearts withpeace beyond understanding.
And Lord, we just ask thatyou would strengthen our trust
every single day of our lives.
And we ask this with confidence.
In Jesus' name.
this, real peace isn't in your bank.
It's in your God.
(10:39):
So surrender a fear today.
Anchor it in him because you'removing towards lasting freedom.
And I just wanna encourage you todayto share this show with somebody.
I feel really compelled today thatwe can take this and we can just
