Sometimes we feel like we’re just shouting into the void, right? Like the heavens are closed for business and our prayers are hitting the ceiling. That’s the vibe of today’s chat, where we dive into what to do when God feels silent. Our host shares a heartfelt story about his own struggles, praying for a breakthrough during a tough season in life, and how he learned that just because he felt alone, it didn’t mean he was. The famous poem 'Footprints in the Sand' gets a shoutout, illustrating how we might feel abandoned during our hardest times, but really, that’s when we’re being carried. We unpack how God’s silence doesn’t mean He’s absent. It's a reminder that waiting can be part of a bigger picture, and that sometimes, when we’re sitting in the dark, we’re actually being prepared for something greater. So, if you’re feeling like your prayers are going unanswered, grab a comfy seat and tune in; we’re here for each other, learning to trust even when we can't see the path ahead.

Takeaways:

(00:28):
I got this question. I justhad to share it on today's show.
Ralph, I've been praying for afinancial breakthrough, but it feels
like God's not even listening.I'm doing everything right, but nothing's
changing. Why does he feel sosilent? And I took a little bit and
I thought, you know what? Thisreminds me of the famous poem. And
I want to read this poem todayon the show because I felt like this

(00:49):
just connected with yourquestion. It's called Footprints
in the Sand. Now, this is oneof those public domains, so I don't
know any exactly who wrote it,but let me just read that today.
And it says this. One night Idreamed I was walking along the beach
with the Lord. Many scenesfrom my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene, I noticedfootprints in the sand. Sometimes
there were two sets offootprints. Other times there was

(01:10):
only one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods ofmy life, when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow, or defeat, Icould see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, youpromised me, Lord, that if I followed
you, you would walk with mealways. But I've noticed that during
the most trying periods of mylife, there's only been one set of

(01:32):
footprints in the sand. Why,when I needed you the most, have
you not been there for me? Andthe Lord replied. He said, my precious
child, I love you and I wouldnever leave you. During your times
of trial and suffering, whenyou see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carriedyou. And, you know, I think we all
can learn from that. It kindof chokes me up as I read that, because

(01:54):
we've all had seasons where wefeel like God has gone silent. We
have those times when we mightbe praying incessantly. We're waiting,
we're hoping, but nothingseems to change. The heavens feel
quiet. And you start towonder, lord, are you even listening?
And maybe that's you rightnow. You've been asking God for a
breakthrough, maybe afinancial breakthrough. Maybe it's

(02:16):
a job, maybe healing. Or maybeit's a relationship you desperately
want restored. And no matterhow much you pray, it feels like
your words are just hittingthe ceiling. But, friend, here's
what I want you to hear today. The same God who carried that man
in the poem is carrying youright now. You just may not realize
it yet, but. But he's therequietly holding you up while you

(02:38):
think you're walking alone.Let's break the silence on today's
show.
This is financially confidentChristian Your daily dose of gospel
grounded insight and faithdriven tips to help you break the
cycle of financial shame with confidence.
Welcome to the show. I'mRalph. I know it's a little bit different
feel today, but my goal everyday is to help you break that cycle

(03:00):
of financial shame and do itwith confidence. And I'm going to
tell a really heartfelt storytoday. And it happened about six
years ago. My wife and Idecided to separate. It was not an
easy time for either one ofus. And I remember when she left,
she packed her things andmoved to another state. Every day
I got up and man, it was astruggle just to get up in the morning.
And I prayed every day Iprayed for healing. And I remember

(03:23):
those prayers vividly. Ibegged God, I said, God, give me
a sign. Give me some proofthat you're still hearing me. I felt
like he was just completelysilent to me. I didn't see it then,
but as I look back at it now,God was working. And it wasn't in
the way I expected. He waspreparing our hearts. He was teaching
both of us patience. And hewas just ever so slightly rebuilding

(03:47):
what had been broken. And I'mhappy to tell you that we were restored.
We were two days away from ourdivorce being finalized. And he answered
the prayer. And I realizedsomething powerful in that. In those
seasons, I thought I waswalking alone. God was carrying me
the whole time. So let's getback to our question today. Why does

(04:11):
he feel so silent? And I justwant to build you up today because
God's silence does not equalabsence. You got to just accept that.
When he seems quiet, I trulybelieve he's working in ways you
can't see. When I was goingthrough that season of my life, I
wasn't hearing him, but man,he was working on me. He was working

(04:31):
on her, he was working on thewhole situation. Another thing I
want you to really understand. His delay does not equal denial.
See, sometimes the Lord saysto us, not yet. That's not something
we want to hear. Oftentimesyou might be going through a struggle.
Right now. You're like Ralph,he keeps telling me, not yet, but
man, when is he going to bethere for me? But just think about

(04:53):
this. He's protecting you. He's positioning you for something
even greater. You got to havefaith. And that's why I say this
next. You got to have faith inthe dark. See, your trust needs to
be rooted in something deeper. And when you feel like, picture that
poem when you're. When there'sonly one set of footprints he's carrying
you that you might feel likehe's completely far away from you.

(05:16):
And you're like, ralph, Idon't know if I'm gonna get through
this. Well, just remember,it's during those seasons that he's
actually got you in his arms. It's the kind of God we serve. And
maybe he's just helping usbuild that gratitude before he gives
us the gift. Because thankingGod. And listen, this is the hard
part, Thanking God in themiddle of that struggle. Thanking

(05:37):
God when you're like God. Areyou not hearing me? Start by thanking
him first, because I trulybelieve that opens your heart to
peace while you wait. Andthere's such unexpected provision,
because his answer is going tocome to you. It might not be the
answer you're looking for, butI'm going to tell you this, and you
can rest assured in this, hewill give you strength, he will give

(05:59):
you clarity, and he willsurround you with the people that
you need to get through this. It's not about money. See, this shows
a lot about money, butsometimes his answer is not what
we expected. Let's get intothe Bible today. Let's go right to
the Book of Psalms, chapter13, verses 1 and 2. It says, how
long, Lord, will you forget meforever? How long will you hide your

(06:22):
face from me? How long must Iwrestle with my thoughts? And day
after day have sorrow in myheart? And you can just hear the
psalmist just crying out forthe Lord? And maybe right now, you're
crying out for the Lord. He'sstill there. Don't lose sight. Let's
pray together. Lord, this is aheavy episode today, and this is

(06:44):
weighing on our hearts. And,Lord, when we feel abandoned, many
of us are feeling abandonedright now. Remind me that you are
carrying us, Lord. You'recarrying me, Lord. So I ask you right
now to teach me. Help me totrust your silence as part of your
plan. We all have our ownplans. We have our ideas of what
we want. But, Lord, we knowthat your plan is perfect. So right

(07:06):
now, Lord, I just ask that youwould fill my waiting with your peace
instead of worry. Because youare the great architect. You are
the keeper of all thesethings, Lord. We just ask this in
confidence in the name ofJesus. Amen. All right, so I got
an action item for you. I wantyou to just write down one thing
that you're waiting for God'sanswer today and each day this week.

(07:27):
I just want you to whisperthis quiet prayer in your own heart,
Lord, even when I can't hearyou. I choose to trust you're carrying
me. Even when I can't hearyou, Lord, I choose to trust that
you're carrying me. Andlisten, if this message spoke to
your heart today, I'd love foryou to join what we just launched.
