And now for a complete change of pace from what we’ve been chatting about these past few days. So, question: what’s worse than not finding the marriage partner you long for? Answer, marrying the wrong one!
Okay, maybe you’re not on the hunt for a soulmate. Perhaps you’re already married so it’s a done deal. Even so, doubtless there’s someone in your circle right now who yearns to be married.
In my late thirties, I found myself “single again” and after several years of dealing with the grief of the betrayal and loss, I once again yearned for a soulmate.
One or two “eligible candidates” – if I can be that clinical – presented themselves. One, I knew, had “slept around” so to speak. And when she drank, she drank rather too much. But she was pretty and I was lonely. Could she be the one? Maybe I could change her.
I was vulnerable at the time and could easily have fallen into that trap. But some godly, faithful friends pulled alongside and warned me not to get involved with her. Fortunately, I had the good sense to listen.
Proverbs 15:22 If you don’t ask for advice, your plans will fail. With many advisors, they will succeed.
That woman went on to have an affair with a married man. Much later, God brought Jacqui across my path – the most wonderful, godly woman in the world. We’ve been married now for almost 27 years!
Whether it’s you who needs to hear this, or someone in your circle, listen: It’s better to wait long than to marry wrong.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
