Do you remember as a child being afraid of the dark? Yeah, so when darkness descends on our lives once more, that fear we once felt comes rushing back. But with all my heart, I know that God wants to give you His confidence amidst dark times.

Irena Sendler was a Polish social worker who saved around two and a half thousand Jewish children during the Holocaust. She smuggled them out of the Warsaw Ghetto by hiding them in ambulances, sacks, even coffins.

She hid her meticulous records of the children’s true identities in glass jars buried in a garden in the hope that they could one day be reunited with their families.

Sendler was eventually caught and brutally tortured by the Nazis, having both her legs and feet broken. But she never revealed any information about the children or her co-conspirators. Dark times indeed!

Almost three thousand years earlier, during another terrible time in Israel’s history, the Prophet Micah wrote these words:

Micah 7:8 I have fallen, but enemy, don’t laugh at me! I will get up again. I sit in darkness now, but the LORD will be a light for me.

You and I, we have no idea when the next darkness will descend on our lives, unless perhaps you’re in the midst of one now. But I do know this: that the God who created 200 billion trillion stars will be there as our light in that dark place. Trust Him! Put all your confidence in Him!

You may sit in darkness now, but the Lord will be a light for you.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
