It’s all too easy to grow weary of doing the right thing. Swimming against the tide is hard work. You just want to give up, to curl up in a ball and hide from the world.
We all need rest, that’s for sure; time and space on our own away from the cut and thrust of day-to-day life – no emails, no messages, no phone calls, rest. Absolutely!
But the danger is that temptation to give up completely. I’ve slogged away for long enough. I’ve sacrificed enough. So we stop using our God-given gifts and abilities to help, to bless, to encourage others.
Perhaps you’re feeling a tad burnt out today, so let me encourage you, empower you, to kickstart your engine – not through anything clever I might have to say, but through the living, breathing Word of God:
1 Peter 4:10-11 God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be good servants and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve each other. If your gift is speaking, your words should be like words from God. If your gift is serving, you should serve with the strength that God gives. Then it is God who will be praised in everything through Jesus Christ. Power and glory belong to him forever and ever. Amen
What’s your gift? What’s that inkling, that little flame God’s placed in your heart. He can take that and use it mightily. Be obedient, be open, be available to God with a whatever, whenever, wherever you call me God, attitude. Because the rest of us truly need you.
Use whatever gift He’s given you in a way that’ll best serve others.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
