In this week's Thanksgiving episode of How to Pretend to Like Sports, Monica chats about the following:

  • Max’s mom accused Checo of cheating on his wife (he had issued an apology)
  • My initial World Cup thoughts
  • The age of some of these players: Ronaldo 37 (leaving Manchester), Messi 35 Saudi Arabia beat Argentina ranked 3 in the world in huge upset
  • Belgium had the word love in the inside of their jersey and Fifa said they had to remove it
  • England, Wales, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands will no longer wear OneLove anti-discrimination armbands under pressure from FIFA.
  • TCU’s “emergency mode” got them a win
  • The top news you need

And now let’s get into the news

  • The 2023 season of Formula 1 will welcome its first American driver, Logan Sargeant. He will be driving for Williams in place of Nicholas Latifi which should come to no surprise. In addition to the announcement of Logan entering F1, last weekend was Sebastian Vettel’s last race as he retired from F1. It was also Daniel Ricciardo’s last race as a starter for F1, but he will be back as a backup for Red Bull.
  • Tennessee has had an incredible season going into last weekend at #5, don’t forget the excitement after that Alabama win. But bad news came in with their Quarterback, Hendon Hookers, ACL tear which means he’s out the rest of the season. He’s a senior who transferred from Virginia Tech. He is still eligible for the headman trophy but with less games to prove himself, it could be harder than expected.
  • Speaking of college football, the top 5 have changed and Tenessee moved down to 9. USC is now #5 with the rest remaining the same. 4 tcu, 3 Michigan, 2 Ohio state and 1 Georgia. This is TCU’s first 11-0 start since 2010.
  • If there’s a game to watch this weekend, it’s going to be #2 Ohio state playing #3 Michigan. Georgia will be playing Georgia Tech, and TCU will be playing Iowa State. USC will be playing #13 Notre Dame
  • The US and Wales tied in their first game of the World Cup.
