Drew Storen is one of only 6% of athletes who sign a deal to play baseball to make into the “Big Leagues”. As a relief pitcher he has played for the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners and the Cincinnati Reds.
Currently he is rehabbing successful Tommy John Surgery and hopes to be pitching again in 2019. He sits down with me and talks about how he beat the odds and become one of the 6%. Find out what his best experience to date has been in the majors. Learn what city is his favorite to pitch in, favorite ballpark and what “other” famous athlete was at Stanford the same time as Drew.
An ambitious young man learn about his plans for after his career on the field is over. And with all of my podcasts we then venture off into some other areas of interest. Drew happens to be a big car guy. So of course we talk cars! He enjoys painting, on canvas, not houses!
He also happens to have a fascination with the military. A chance encounter with a baseball fan who lived in his neighborhood while in D.C. fed that interest. The fan turned out to be the legendary Navy pilot Chuck “Heater” Heatley. The F-14 pilot, Top Gun instructor, and photographer was an inspiration for the movie Top Gun. (Check out Heaters book, “Cutting Edge” it came out in 1986 but has amazing shots from his fighter jet.) Drew has even flown an F-16 simulator!
From here we talk memorabilia and his treasured collectibles. And I couldn't resist asking him if he does impressions like his famous dad, sportscaster and former Bob and Tom Show member Mark Patrick.
All in all a fascinating talk with a talented, interesting, and likable young man.

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
