Aerospace women are few and far between. Michaelyn is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) executive manager in the aerospace industry based out of California. She is also an esteemed member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, the Maryland Alpha chapter. She has a passion for space exploration, space systems innovation, and STEM education. Michaelyn also serves as the executive sponsor for her company's women empowerment business resource group which aims to increase the number of women in the aerospace industry. She is also very passionate about community service and she dedicates her spare time to inspire as many girls, women, and all underrepresented groups to pursue STEM education and careers. Michaelyn accomplishes this through community STEM activities, mentorship, and serving as an advisory board member of the Society of Women in Space Exploration (SWISE), and serving as an executive mentor for the Patti Grace Smith Fellowship. The Spaced Out Doc community is a direct reflection of Michaelyn's thoughts, experiences, and doctoral research in the space industry. As a woman of color and executive leader in a profession with few people who look like her, her perspective is unique, and her goal is to educate, motivate, and inspire as many human-beings as possible. She believes that women empowerment objectives are not just for women, but rather, these objectives are for everyone to succeed—inclusive business is good business.
