(00:00):
Well, thank you for joining.
I'm so good.
We're so happy to have you.
I'm so excited to be here.
Thanks for having me on.
So pop palace, we celebrateiconic women and queer people
in pop music and pop culture.
And then whenever I heardyour music, I was like, Oh my
God, we have to talk to her.
(00:20):
She's perfect for the podcast.
So welcome on.
Thank you so much.
If you could introduceyourself to everybody.
We love to have our guestsintroduce themselves.
Hi everyone.
My name is Flo Gallop and I'mreally excited to be here.
I am a singer songwriter from SoutheastLondon and yeah, I write sort of
(00:43):
straight up pop songs that about exboyfriends and dramas in my life.
We love it.
We love all things pop.
We love a little drama.
So you've been described asdelivering tequila for the heart
and a double body for the soul.
How did you develop yoursignature sound and style?
(01:05):
Was it something that you likeconsciously did or is it just kind
of a amalgamation of your life?
So I think, um, I grew up listeningto like Lily Allen and Kate Nash and
like just loving the chatty lyricsand just, um, I think, I guess
like the, to the point lyrics of.
(01:25):
Their songs, and, um, yeah, Ikind of wanted to create that.
Um, and then also, I think, like, myactual sound, um, was helped find, um, fa
I found it with a producer that I firstdid my tracks with called Tom Fuller, and
he sort of really, like, I I gave him adirection, because I don't produce at all,
(01:49):
but I gave him, like, a direction of thesort of vibe that I thought Would work
for me and then it's just kind of gone onfrom there and it's evolved like that was
way back in like 2018 Um, so yeah, that'sawesome um, how much have you Changed
since 2018 since finding your sound hasit developed and changed at all or has it?
(02:12):
Just refined itself.
So I would say it has to like so Mylast release was Pajama Party and,
um, that was a real risk for mebecause that was very different, um,
to anything that I'd done before.
Um, but I'd just gone through abreakup and I kind of wanted to have
like a more of a vulnerable song.
(02:34):
Um, But I think basically the soundsjust kind of, I found myself a bit more
as an artist and like when I've goneinto sessions, I've been more confident
and like known exactly what I wanted tosay and kind of known what songs work.
So I guess it's just like, astime's gone on, hopefully it's just
improved in some way, shape or form.
And I think like that just has come with.
(02:56):
Confidence.
Really?
Yeah.
Um, so yeah, definitely.
And I love pajama party.
I literally was like listening to it, youon the way here to like get in the mood.
'cause it's, um, oh myGod, it's 9:30 AM here.
I'm in central, um, United States.
So I was like, oh my gosh.
Getting my groove on in the morning.
It's such a Love it.
I love that you're listeningto that on the way.
(03:18):
On the way, like hyping yourself up.
No, literally on the drive here.
I was like, okay.
Yeah, this is the perfect song.
Yeah.
Yes I love it um Growingup in southeast london.
Did the city um inspire any of yourmusic or what was like the music
scene growing up around there?
Yeah, like I love London.
(03:39):
I'm not saying that I'll never move, butI just, I'm so lucky to have been born
like in London, there's so much going on,there's things happening all the time.
Um, I kind of like grew up going togigs, um, that my dad was, my dad's
a musician as well, just like as ahobby, but I grew up going, um, with
(04:00):
him to gigs and stuff like that.
And then, um, I've just sort ofspent the past, uh, like, how long?
Since like 2018, um, basically goingTwo gigs and like meeting lots of people
and now like I've really establishedlike a lovely Group of independent
artists and like made lots of friendsBut that's one thing I would say about
(04:23):
the music scene in London is it's veryopen Everyone's willing to be friends.
Everyone's willing to help each other.
It's a real community It would be verydifficult to like leave that but I do
have it in my heart to go to like LA orNashville I think Yeah, I love America and
(04:43):
I just, I really want to go and see whatit's like and see if I can like fit in.
Um, but yeah, so I do love London andit has brought a lot of like joy to my
life and definitely it's like helped, um.
With the, the music that I've comeout with and like, I think like
in my songs, they're very chaotic.
(05:05):
Like the city is like lots of beepingand I think we've used like beeps as
samples before and stuff like that.
So yeah, I love it.
That's so fun.
Um, I was talking to somebody elsefrom London recently and she was
saying the same thing about how thecommunity is so open and welcoming.
And that's just like sucha nice thing to hear.
(05:26):
I mean at least where I am sometimesit gets a little bit like indie boy
band focus and they're very likeclicky and then their own little
groups and then anything femme islike a little bit looked down upon so.
We're breaking that barrier though.
Yeah.
Yeah, I, I do.
Wow.
I mean, London, honestly, we're justlike open to everything and anything.
(05:47):
And like, um, I've got so many friendsdoing so many different things.
And it's just like my, one of mybest friends last year started like
a production duo with her boyfriendand they had their first birthday,
um, on Saturday night and, you know,we went and all of the artists.
from London are there and it'sjust like everywhere you turn
(06:08):
it's like a conversation of new.
Like person telling you about theirmusic and it's, you know, it's intense.
It's overwhelming, butit's like, it's so good.
It's so cool.
So, um, so yeah, I love that.
Yeah.
Have you been to the U S at all?
So I have been, Oh, sorry.
(06:28):
So I've been to, um, Florida, uh,to only to like Disneyland and I'm
actually going back to Disneyland.
It's so fun.
April, I know I just got I love it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anyway, I'm a fan.
But yeah, so I'm going back to Disneyland.
And then I've been toNew York, but that's it.
(06:48):
I've never been to LA.
I've never been to, um, I've never,I've never been anywhere else.
But I'm, I'm about to work with aproducer from Nashville, um, and
he's actually coming to London.
I did want him to be like,Oh, you have to come here.
So I could sort of like have a tripthere, but yeah, he's coming to London.
(07:09):
So we're working in London, but I'm going to see what that.
Like, and then hopefully I'll goback and visit him and, you know.
Yeah, definitely.
. I've always wanted togo to, um, Nashville.
I've been to, um, otherplaces in Tennessee, but I've
never made it to Nashville.
Yeah.
And I really want togo to Dolly World too.
Oh my gosh.
Same.
Yeah, I've, I've heard, I've heard.
(07:31):
It's so cool.
Such a vibe, right?
I'm thinking, um, I'm thinking aboutgoing to Nashville with my dad because.
Like, obviously he, he's likereally into music as well.
And I just think it wouldbe like something that would
be just great memories.
Do you know what I mean?
It'd be really cool.
But yeah, Dollywell would be good.
Yeah, I want to go there so bad.
(07:53):
I love Dolly.
Well, I'll meet you there.
Yeah, we can have a little trip.
So your debut single 21 capturedthe everyday life of being that age.
So what inspired you to write it?
Um, and how did you feel aboutit being a few years older now?
(08:14):
So 21, um, I can say this nowbecause it's so long gone.
Like I don't even play toanyone in my sets anymore.
It's not cause I like that song willalways hold a special place in my
heart because it was my first release.
Like I can look back andbe, um, proud of like where.
It, everything came from, but it'snot one of my favorite songs and I
(08:38):
definitely think it was, uh, me sortof attempting to develop my sound and
just understand myself a bit more.
Um, but I'm not one of those peoplethat will ever delete songs because
I'm sure that there's someone out therethat likes that song a lot and I, I
hate it when artists delete songs that.
They don't like anymore and you'relike, but I really liked it.
(09:00):
So can't you just keep it up?
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, so I'll never delete it,but it's, you know, I think that that
song actually came out of, it was thelast one written of a set of three and.
Yeah, as I say, I was just, I was learningat that time and I'm, I was trying to
(09:21):
be cool and so I think that all comesacross in it is that I'm overly trying
quite hard, but that's really nice andsweet, you 21 is all about, I guess.
So, um, so that's, yeah, it's, it's anice thing, but, um, yeah, just like,
I guess what I just said, like, you.
That's what being 21 is all aboutis that like, you know, you're going
(09:43):
to look back and sort of like cringea little bit a few years later, but
ultimately like, it was a good time.
I mean, I'd love to 21.
21 was such a vibe.
Yeah, definitely.
Um, your music is fullof personality and humor.
How much of your real lifeexperiences go into your music
and how much of it is fictional?
(10:05):
So, so.
Most of the time, my songs, like, um, mostartists will prepare their songs, like, a
year in advance and then release them all.
Um, mine are basically done, um,in chronological order of the
dramas that happen in my life.
Like, they are very much honest,um, Situations that have happened,
(10:31):
and I release, I record andrelease, I write, record and release
them Literally as it happens.
So it's sort of like the listeneris coming along with me on this wild
crazy journey And I've thought abouttrying, I don't know, like trying to
um you know, backlog a load of songs, but it just doesn't work for me.
(10:52):
Like I, I wouldn't connect to itas much at the time of release.
Um, so, so yeah, I like thefact that I'm, I'm always very
last minute with everything.
Um, but yeah, I mean,it's always quite crazy.
There's, there's one song that I wrote.
Sorry for you mate, whichactually is about someone else.
(11:14):
Um, it was about someone else'srelationship at the time.
I didn't have anything to write about.
And, um, I was in a happy relationship.
I was like, life's good.
And my friend, um, was like,Oh, like I've been cheated on.
And I was like.
Great.
Okay.
Good.
This is like, if you can't takeinspiration from your own situation, like
(11:37):
you've got to take it from, from her.
So yeah, bless her heart.
We, you know, I'm, I'm sure shecan like connect to that song.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love the going chronologically toEspecially in the moment being like
so fresh, because I think sometimeswhen you put it away, it can change
the meaning of the song too, even.
(11:57):
And, um, yeah, I just really love that.
It's like you're writingyour autobiography as you go.
And you're just like letting it out.
Yeah, that's it.
And that's the thing.
Like, it just works well for me.
Um, but yeah, I mean,it is super last minute.
All the time, it's just like, like, if I told you the state that
my next piece of work is in atthe moment, you'd be like, what?
(12:22):
Because my plan to release it isvery soon, so it's just like, it's,
it's sometimes very chaotic and lastminute, but that's just how I am.
Yeah, it's exciting though, I love that.
Um, besides music, do youpractice any other forms of art?
Or do you have any other passionsthat you do besides music?
(12:45):
Hmm, I So I love like exercise and Ilove, um, cooking, but not really like,
um, I'm just quite a creative person.
Like I'm always up for like doing thingslike, you know, I'm going to a painting
lesson next week, stuff like that.
Like if I see anything that sort of soundslike it's going to be fun and creative
(13:09):
and like, I love, um, I love people.
Like I love just socializing with people.
Um, but yeah, not.
Not really.
Like I, I was gonna at some point lastyear, like I used to act, um, and I
was going to like dabble in acting.
And basically I've said to myboyfriend, I'm like, if I ever make
it big, like I'm going in a film, like that's, that would be the goal.
(13:31):
But, um, yeah, I just sort oflike, I'm open to anything really.
And like, I love.
Trying new things.
So yeah, I guess creative in, inlots of ways, but mostly music in
terms of what I'm actually doing.
Definitely.
I love that.
Well, um, if you could like be in aspecific genre of film, which kind
of film would you want to be in?
(13:53):
Uh, like a chick flick.
Okay, yeah.
Like, um, Wild Child orCenturions or something like that.
I said to my boyfriend the otherday, there is no way that I could
ever be in like, the only filmthat I would absolutely never
be in is like a shark movie.
I know that's really neat.
Oh, I could never do that.
Do you know anything in the sea?
I can't.
I know it's not filmed in the sea butlike the shallows with Blake Lively or
(14:18):
like Jaws, like absolutely count me out.
I'm not doing it.
I remember when I was little I watchedJaws with my grandma probably a little too
early and I live in Oklahoma like eighthours from the ocean and I was terrified
to get in the pool still and I was like Icould never film anything like that, no.
No, it's so scary.
I remember the same thing I watched,do you remember that Piranha film?
(14:41):
Oh my gosh, yes.
I didn't have a bath because there'sobviously a scene with like a bath.
I didn't have a bath for likethree years after I watched that.
That's so funny.
But I get it, they're like, and youcan't see, I don't know, something about
like the water is just so horrifying.
Yeah, I don't like it.
Okay.
So I have a few like fun questions.
(15:03):
So you're curating a dream festivallineup and it's Gallup Fest.
So who's headlining along with you?
Um, oh, okay.
So niche, but like Oasis, definitely.
Okay, yeah.
Um, Hannah Montana onher, like, comeback tour.
(15:23):
Or like, I'll take Miley Cyrus, but I want, like, the eras.
Oh, 100%.
Do you know what I mean?
Yes.
I mean, I'll take Miley Cyrus, full stop.
Um, oh my gosh.
Oh my gosh, I don't know.
Maybe like, because I'vegot a bit of variety there.
So maybe then, like,Aloe Black or something.
(15:43):
I quite like Aloe Black.
Yeah.
So random, but I've always, like, wantedto write with Aloe Black because I quite
like his, um, I quite like his vibe.
I feel like he's veryThat'd be a good mix too.
Yeah, that would be like, you'dbuy tickets to that, wouldn't you?
Yeah, 100%.
Because it's like, everyone likes it.
Yes.
Good for all the family.
Did you see, um, Miley'shair at the Grammys?
It was giving, like, Hannah Montana.
(16:04):
I'm like, what is she up to?
I know.
What is she?
No, I think there's going to be anEris tour, but I've also seen like
Justin Bieber Eris tour as well, which I'm absolutely up for that.
Like, that would be great.
I would be there.
I used to, when he gigged for the firsttime here, like the My World tour, I
took, I took like a warning sign thatI made that said, warning Bieber fever.
(16:25):
Stop.
I will make it again.
No, literally.
I honestly, I really do love allthe like different Eris tours.
Like I went and sawMadonna and she did like.
Her whole discography and it's reallyfun for especially people that weren't
there like I wasn't alive when Madonna wasreleasing some of these albums so to go
back and experience it it's really cool.
(16:46):
Yeah I think it's important butobviously like artists are quite funny
like if they've like moved on fromthat then they sometimes like you
know Miley like There was this wholething about her, like, wanting to come
away from it for ages, wasn't there?
So, I don't know, but Ithink she's ready to go back.
Yeah.
Take, take the leap, girl.
I'm ready for her to be back.
Me too.
(17:06):
Um, so lastly, at Pop Palace,uh, we love to ask our guests
to create their own royal court.
So who would be, you're sittingon your throne as your, like,
biggest musical inspiration, andthen who would be in your court?
I know this is kind of similar.
Wait, what's a royal court?
I don't know what that means.
Yeah, so, well, so pot palace, we'rekind of going off like the royal theme.
(17:28):
Yeah, I love that.
I love that you love the royal.
Yeah, so like the royal court is just kindof like the king and queen, but you're
obviously your queen and so then like thelittle people in your little close circle.
Oh, okay.
Oh my god.
That's really difficult.
I know.
It's okay if you don't have it like.
(17:49):
Okay, but how many, how many people?
I'm going on my Spotify and then I can.
Like three.
But it can be more if you have more.
Well, I think I'd have likeall of the Spice Girls.
Okay.
They can count as one.
All the Spice Girls.
And then, um, oh my gosh, this is so stressful.
Um,
(18:14):
maybe like, uh, Sabrina Carpenter,I think would be good friends.
I love her.
Yeah.
And, and I think I couldlearn a lot from her.
I'd just be like, tell me your secrets.
And then maybe.
Hmm.
, like Christina Aguilera.
(18:36):
Okay.
Yeah.
Oh, no.
As look her and Kesha.
Oh my God.
I love Ke.
Okay.
Yes.
I love Kesha.
Yeah.
Ke Kesha's, like on the throat.
'cause Kesha is one of my biggestinspirations in terms of like just image.
Mm-hmm . And being iconic.
I just, I love Kesha.
Yeah.
Kesher.
Kesh, Kesha.
I'm obsessed.
(18:56):
So, yeah.
Yeah.
And then , what can we expectcoming in the near future?
So, yes, I can't tell you how exciting.
I'm actually scared myself andI'm not scared of anything.
Basically.
I am going to do some really iconic,
(19:19):
um, without swearing, butyeah, really iconic and yeah.
You're not going to believeit, but basically, um,
follow my, uh, or subscribe.
I keep saying followbecause I'm so used to that.
Subscribe to my YouTube channel becausethat's where it's going to go down.
Okay.
But also follow me on Instagrambecause you're going to need to
(19:39):
follow on Instagram YouTube tounderstand what's about to happen.
So that's what I'm going to say.
What are all your socials?
So at flow underscore Gallop on Instagramand TikTok, and then flow Gallop on
Facebook and like, uh, if you go,basically I'll tell you what you can do.
(20:04):
If you go on my links page.
At, um, flow underscore Gallopon Instagram, then you've got
all of the links to everything.
Exactly.
And basically, if you're a true hero, youwould just go through and follow on all.
Yep.
Because it's very helpful.
Everyone go follow, like, comment, give them all the interactions.
Do it all and go listen to pajamaparty to get you a good morning vibe.
(20:29):
Yes.
Well, thank you so much for joining me.
It was so lovely to meetyou and get to talk.
Oh my God.
Thanks for having me.
I love, I love like getting anemail out of the blue and like, Oh,
just it's so fun to like emailing.
I'm like, I never, half the peopleI emailed don't even respond.
So I get so excited when someone responds.
(20:49):
I'm like, cause I genuinely care.
It's not just like.
Trying to get random people.
So I appreciate it.
I love the fact that you'redoing this, like, championing,
championing independent artists.
And also, like, you're onthe other side of the world.
Like, how cool is that?
Yeah, it's so fun.
That we're, like, doing this right now.
Yeah.
So, thank you so much.
Yes.
For thinking of me.
It was so lovely to meet you.
And I'll keep you updated on everything.
(21:11):
You too.
Oh, so nice to meet you.
I will um, I will see you very soon.
Yeah, maybe maybe in Nashville.
No.
Yeah, let me know we can go to dolly world
See you later
