All right.
Full disclosure, this is our first week back,
and it is rough.
It is rough.
So this is what I am doingto correct my off track homeschool.
Welcome back to making Everyday Magic.
My name is Shanna, and if you are new herewe are entering a family of four.
We are in our eighth yearof homeschooling,

(00:20):
which means we should be doinga little better than this.
Today I want to talk with youabout how to correct your off
track homeschool.
Before we go any further, guys, please
scroll down and hit thatbig red subscribe button.
Turn on the bell for notificationsand give this video a thumbs up.
As always,
you can find me down in the commentsor an Instagram app making everyday magic.

(00:43):
Okay, so we are coming off of a longholiday break
where we were very busy, overtired, overworked because,
I think as a kids activitiesand just life is crazy
and it was 2024,I feel like that is definitely a factor.
So we are trying
to get back in the swing of thingsand it is hard.

(01:07):
It is hard.
And so in an effort to keep myself saneand and as always, you guys know,
I come here and I share with youwhat I'm going through.
So in an effort to keep myselfsaying I have broken down my five point
plan to get us back on track, and that is what we are doing.
So number one, first thing you could do

(01:27):
to get your off track homeschool back ontrack is plan.
How are we going to do this?
What is the plan?
What is it like?
What is the plan? How are we doing it?
My plan was I sat downand I have, these clear post-it notes.
It doesn't have to be clear.I just really like them.
And I wrote down what we needed to dofor this week to feel successful.

(01:51):
Okay, so one is plan.
And this leads me right into number two.
And number two for meis to start small and build.
So I don't try to jump right backinto where we left off.
And don't try to jump
right back into every single thingthat we are doing full fledged.
Because that's hard.
It is unrealistic.
It is incredibly unrealistic to thinkthat you are just going to be back

(02:13):
to 100%, that this is not how it is,and that's not how anything works.
You even you hit the gas in the car.
It's gotta get up to speed, you know what I mean?
So start small and build.
This helps you to be realistic.
And like, the waythat I like to think about this is like,
if if ideal, Shauna is talkingto real life.

(02:36):
Shauna. Real life.
Shauna is like, just be be freaking for real here.
You need to be realisticand what those expectations are.
So like I said, I made my post-it note.
I figured out my plan
for what I feltwe needed to do for success.
Which is the bare minimum.

(02:56):
So what is feet?
If I did these three things, the end ofthe week, that's a check for me.
I feel good about myself.
I'm done.
Really goodif I do these three things now,
I did everything because I can't do that.
Not. I'm back firing on all cylinderscuz I'm not honestly eating myself.
I'm like, brain fog, brain dead. It's.
The weather is gray.
It's just not happening.

(03:17):
So we need to be realistic. Okay?
Start small and then build back up.
So number three use a checklist
a physical real life checklist.
And I don't careif you've got a paper chain
running through your houseyou've got a whiteboard.
I don't care if you drew it in timeor chalk outside.
Use some sort of checklistbecause the dopamine hit that you will get

(03:44):
it is so gratifying from scribbling outor checking off, or marking off,
or just watching your list sizedwindle is so rewarding.
It is so rewarding.
It will help you
so much to do that, to just know
that you've used a physical checklist,a physical visual checklist.

(04:06):
This is step three. It is a must.
The number four point in my plan to getyour off track homeschool back on track
is to just do it.
So evenif you jump to any of the other stats
I just told you, just do it.Just start it.
Just get movingjust one foot in front of the other.
The first step is always the hardest.
If the first thing you have to dois just set the 7 a.m.

(04:29):
alarm and get up with that, just do it, okay?
There's a lot of research that showsif you can devote two minutes to anything
more likely to keep going.
If you can put on your workout clothes
to walk out of the house, you're more likely to do the workout.
If you start cleaning off one counter, you're more likely to clean the room.
Just just just just do it, okay?
Just get started.

(04:50):
Just move the person.Just physically go through the motions.
Just set the alarm.
Just get up.
Just do it.
Just do it. Just start. Just do it.
Okay? Just do it. You're planning.
Maybe. Maybe not.Maybe you're not all that.
You're going to start small.
You can definitely to be realistic
you can use a checklistand then you're just going to get started.
You're just going to do itokay. Now number five.
And this one's really important to mebecause this is how I motivate you guys.

(05:11):
Know I really like a novelty.I really like a theme.
I really like a reward okay. We all do.
So I don't care what your reward is.
If you have started, you've donethe thing.
You've got your reasonable listof like three things to do
when you have checked them alloff because you just started.
Reward yourself, reward yourself a rewardyour kids, reward your family.

(05:33):
I don't know if we are going outfor a celebratory dinner.
I don't know if that earns usa bike ride around the block.
I do not know if it earns you a bubblebath and a glass of wine.
I am not here to judge.
Just reward yourselves, okay?
Yourselves and your kids.
Plus, if you share what the reward isahead of time, it's
very motivating to work towarda common goal with your family.

(05:53):
So maybe it is family movie night andyou get to pick out your special snacks.
Maybe it's a pizza partypizza party is work, guys.
There's a reason they're usedas motivational tools
in both elementary schooland corporate America pizza parties.
I am just saying thatif there is a reward on the table,
I am more likely to do it the same waythat my family is more likely to do it.
And if we are working together, that's a whole bonding thing.

(06:15):
We've taken this in a new direction whereit's extra productive and super special.
Whatever it takes, reward yourselfand your children
because rewards are greatand it needs to be a reward beyond,
don't give me this hokey baloney of like, you're gonna be about our time.
You all know more.
You'll be proud of yourselfif you finish your math sheet.
Now I want something good.I want these candy.

(06:37):
I want a fruit snack. I want a movie.I want to be important. Okay?
We want a bowl, ice cream, athe baths, a wine, a trip,
maybe another tripthat's maybe a little excessive.
And then you're derailed again.Don't. Don't do that.
But you get what I'm saying. Okay?
Cada uno Starbucks I don't know.
I don't know what it is.I don't know what it is.
I am just saying it is not for the justwarm fuzzy of having done the thing.

(06:58):
No, no, we want a sticker.
We want something good, preferably shiny.
Also tasty.
That's our mat right now.
And I just realizedI didn't get my reward.
So now I'm thinking aboutwhat it's going to be,
because this time tomorrow afternoon,I will be having it.
Because this has been,
I said, a rough week.

(07:19):
It has been really hardto get started again.
I just yeah, you don't forget how to ride a bicycle,
but that doesn't mean you're
not going to fall down and skin your kneebecause it has been rough.
And that,my friends, is how I intend to get our off
track home school back on track.
And I know that there are a lot ofout of you out there right now
who could really, really just appreciatehearing somebody say the words.
And maybe, maybe you just needed to be given

(07:40):
a little bit of justificationto to get the reward.
I'm fine with that.
I will be I will be that friend foryou because I got you, girl.
All right, guys, I hope you foundit is helpful, entertaining, informative.

But guess what?
Think 2025 is going to havea totally different vibe in 2024.
Okay,
I'll be go.
Give me.
Let's make this interesting.
Write on down in the comments.
What's your reward?
What's my reward?
What's my reward be? What's your reward?
