Bri Woodson, descendant of Carter G. Woodson (also known as The Father of Black History), sat down with Danielle to discuss how we can each show up in this moment, as Black history is getting erased, racism is on the rise, and fear seems to be a main tactic of this administration. Bri talks about the intersection between racism and mental health, and how we need to change our understanding and treatment of that which is so deeply embedded in the soul of this country. Is it possible that racism changes the makeup of DNA and other physical aspects of human's genetic makeup? Will it even be possible to convince people, in this divisive climate, that racism is something we need to discuss and dismantle on such a more profound level? Bri also discusses how White women, and especially, parents, need to be that much more cognizant of how we are speaking to our kids, and how we are allowing others to speak and behave, just because they are "family." Why is it so important that we stop giving our friends and family a "pass" because they are people in our lives about whom we care? Additionally, she breaks down the real history and celebration behind Juneteenth, and why it is such an important aspects of Black history. This episode is filled with the truth, harsh realizations, and strategies to be better humans who show up for those in need right now, that so many of us need to hear and utilize.

If you listen to Marriage and Martinis, you know what Adam and I went through after the election, and how disconnected we were. Where we are now feels worlds ahead, in a REALLY awesome way. Of course, we've been doing this communication thing publicly for a minute (ok, seven years to be exact), so we definitely have a leg up on what works. That's why I created (Re)Connecting Through The Chaos - The ONLY relationship guide for right now. Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
