SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
The Unfiltered Union
SPEAKER_03 (00:03):
Podcast.
You love getting sunburned.
SPEAKER_05 (00:10):
It's Florida.
It's
SPEAKER_03 (00:11):
like a permanent
state of being for you in the
summertime.
I
SPEAKER_05 (00:14):
feel like I look
like a raccoon.
SPEAKER_03 (00:18):
Or
SPEAKER_05 (00:18):
Morticia.
SPEAKER_03 (00:19):
Your nose is
definitely puffy, too.
You got that meniscus.
I mean, I'm not saying it as adiss, but...
You got really bad sunburn onyour nose.
SPEAKER_04 (00:33):
And
SPEAKER_03 (00:34):
we've talked about
it before, but how does it feel
today?
Because you've been using
SPEAKER_05 (00:39):
Solar Recover.
This is not an ad by any means, just that we have found a
product that works.
SPEAKER_03 (00:46):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_05 (00:47):
I sound like an ad.
SPEAKER_03 (00:48):
Snake oil.
I thought it was snake oil, butme, you don't get as bad a
sunburn as me.
I turn into Red Lobster.
SPEAKER_05 (00:59):
Well, you get a
sunburn.
sunburn even if you putsunscreen on
SPEAKER_03 (01:01):
yes it doesn't make
sense
SPEAKER_05 (01:04):
forget to put
sunscreen on
SPEAKER_03 (01:06):
but the issue i have
is i get really bad sunburn but
it's not just the sunburn thatsucks it's the aftermath
SPEAKER_05 (01:12):
right
SPEAKER_03 (01:13):
i get hell's itch
which if you don't know what
that is it's where when yourbody starts healing it just
itches and it itches so bad thati can't sleep
SPEAKER_04 (01:23):
yep
SPEAKER_03 (01:23):
well i was in
desperation mode one day and i
was trying to find something tohelp.
And I went on Reddit and theysaid, try solar recover.
SPEAKER_05 (01:33):
And it works.
SPEAKER_03 (01:34):
It's a spray.
They call it like liquid lotion.
I don't necessarily think Iagree with it that much.
SPEAKER_05 (01:42):
Well, I think it's
because it's vitamin E in it or
whatever.
SPEAKER_03 (01:44):
Yeah, it's hydrating
for your skin and it helps your
skin actually pull moisture backin.
SPEAKER_05 (01:50):
Right.
SPEAKER_03 (01:51):
Which is what
sunburn is doesn't do.
SPEAKER_05 (01:54):
Right.
But this is this is the resultof no sunscreen And still in
recovery.
SPEAKER_03 (02:02):
It hurts me.
SPEAKER_05 (02:04):
At least I was able
to sleep last night.
But we have had lots of guestson the podcast up until today's
date.
I think we counted at one point, but I forget what it was.
It's in the
SPEAKER_03 (02:15):
double digits.
SPEAKER_04 (02:15):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_05 (02:18):
I think when we have
guests on, it is some of our
most engaging content, right?
Yep.
We get to talk about all kindsof crazy stuff.
We talk to a shark diver.
We talk to a coral biologist.
But we've also talked to peoplethat we believe have an impact
in our local lives as well asmore of a broad span.
SPEAKER_03 (02:38):
Friends.
SPEAKER_05 (02:39):
Yeah.
I mean, it's been a lot ofpeople that we've talked to
about a lot of different things.
SPEAKER_03 (02:45):
Right.
SPEAKER_05 (02:45):
This is going to be
different.
SPEAKER_03 (02:48):
Yeah, this is a
little weird.
Not weird, but weird for us.
SPEAKER_05 (02:52):
Right.
This is a little different.
I think out of all of ourguests, he's probably our
biggest name guest.
SPEAKER_03 (02:59):
Yes, for sure.
And
SPEAKER_05 (03:01):
when I saw it come
across...
SPEAKER_03 (03:03):
You couldn't believe
it.
SPEAKER_05 (03:04):
I kind of fangirled
a little bit.
SPEAKER_03 (03:05):
And I couldn't
believe it either, to be honest
with you, because I'm not goingto say I fangirled, but...
I did.
He is a well-known actor, and Iknow his...
from Scream.
And if you've never seen Scream,if you're like a Gen Z-er and
this is like an old peoplemovie, Scream was a big part of
our childhood era, our youngeryears.
(03:30):
And you know how you go out onHalloween and you see Elsa
costumes by the masses, right?
This was our Elsa costume.
SPEAKER_05 (03:40):
Scream, yeah.
SPEAKER_03 (03:40):
It was the Scream
SPEAKER_05 (03:41):
masks.
SPEAKER_03 (03:43):
It was insane.
It was like a phenomenon.
Say
SPEAKER_04 (03:46):
his
SPEAKER_03 (03:47):
name.
This guy played in Scream, andhis name is David Arquette.
I don't know.
Don't ask me how we booked him,but we did.
SPEAKER_05 (03:57):
i'm really excited
so i know him from buffy from
wcw
SPEAKER_04 (04:03):
yes
SPEAKER_05 (04:04):
scream as well i
mean there's so many things that
he was in back in the you knowearly 2000s and he was married
to courtney cox at one point soit's just like there's there's
so much that i know him fromlike he is nostalgia 2000s
SPEAKER_03 (04:19):
for me that's
exactly how i feel
SPEAKER_05 (04:22):
i love it i'm so
excited i'm gonna try really
hard not to fangirl
SPEAKER_03 (04:26):
oh yeah but it's
gonna be hard We have him on
today to talk about a new moviethat he has.
SPEAKER_05 (04:32):
Well, before we jump
to his movie, what do you what
movies do you remember that havehad the most like hitch in the
feels recently?
What movies
SPEAKER_03 (04:41):
do you get you in
the feels?
We haven't really been on amovie kick lately, but
television wise, like screenwise, Stranger Things.
Yeah, because there's a lot ofemotional moments in that.
And it's a lot about fightingthrough your You're essentially
fighting through your demons.
SPEAKER_02 (05:01):
Yes.
SPEAKER_03 (05:02):
And that always gets
me in the feels because of my
past experience with OCD.
So that is probably my latestget you in the feels episode.
Screen time.
SPEAKER_05 (05:15):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_03 (05:15):
What about you?
SPEAKER_05 (05:16):
I feel like I've
been in my feels a lot recently.
SPEAKER_03 (05:19):
Well, yes,
SPEAKER_05 (05:19):
I feel like we had
my cousin on at one point as one
of our guests.
Right.
And we talked about what'scalled the Bonnie Jean, my
grandmother's Jean, where shecries over everything.
Drop of a hat.
I feel like it's starting tocome in stronger.
But I agree.
When I rewatched, you watchedStranger Things.
I bawled.
SPEAKER_03 (05:39):
What I found
interesting about us watching
Stranger Things was I could tellwhen something sad was going to
happen because you startedcrying before.
SPEAKER_05 (05:48):
Well, there's that.
Oh, look at your cute sockmonkey cup.
That's so cute.
But I think there's a lot ofmovies now that are so...
I don't want to say.
There's not a lot of movies tome that are focused on family
dynamics.
Right.
That are focused on what itmeans to come together, what it
(06:09):
means to build those bonds.
Just overall, like, goodemotions, right?
SPEAKER_03 (06:16):
Right.
And just...
Life.
Right.
Real life.
Stranger things.
It's not real life.
Things like that.
It's always kind of thisoutlandish stuff in film right
now.
And I just feel like this movieis almost bringing it back down
(06:37):
to earth.
SPEAKER_05 (06:38):
Right.
SPEAKER_03 (06:39):
It's like it's an
emotion and a.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_05 (06:46):
He
SPEAKER_03 (06:47):
had his butt to the
camera.
Don't take pictures of this,okay?
All right, buddy.
You got to go.
SPEAKER_05 (06:53):
We got love bombed
by the cat.
Break.
Had to kick him out.
But your point about thefeel-goods type of movies being
outlandish, I agree.
It seems like the more crazy, the more fantasy, the more
whatever they can sprinkle in tomake it that, oh, my gosh,
SPEAKER_04 (07:12):
moment.
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05 (07:13):
It's like all about
that.
Almost like sensationalized.
No.
but we won't go there today.
So overall, I think that iswhere our, our popularity is in
movies right now.
SPEAKER_03 (07:25):
Yeah.
I mean, people want to beshocked.
SPEAKER_05 (07:27):
I don't, I don't
agree.
Like blended the movie blendedwith Adam Sandler.
I liked it.
Right.
It's good feeling movie.
SPEAKER_03 (07:35):
Right.
Right.
It's about family and there'ssome turmoil there with
splitting up and family membersdying.
So grief.
SPEAKER_05 (07:46):
I just, I just think
overall those type of movies
should really be highlightedright now in where we are as a
society.
SPEAKER_03 (07:54):
And we don't even,
you don't have to stop making
the other ones, but there shouldbe more real life movies for
sure.
SPEAKER_05 (08:00):
Agreed.
Well, I think that's what themovie, the good half is.
SPEAKER_03 (08:03):
Yes.
SPEAKER_05 (08:04):
And I'm excited to
see it.
Like this is one that I havebeen watching all the trailers
for, and it is a huge cast.
SPEAKER_02 (08:12):
It is.
It
SPEAKER_05 (08:13):
is a star studded
cast.
It's blended family.
It's, It's all about grief,regret, and healing.
And then you have Nick Jonas, right?
SPEAKER_03 (08:21):
Yes, of course you
want to watch
SPEAKER_05 (08:23):
it.
Yeah.
I mean, he's a good actor.
SPEAKER_03 (08:26):
Oh, yeah.
No, I like him a lot.
SPEAKER_05 (08:28):
After seeing him in
Kingdom?
SPEAKER_03 (08:29):
Yes.
SPEAKER_05 (08:30):
Oh, my gosh.
He is amazing.
SPEAKER_03 (08:33):
That's where I kind
of gained a lot of respect for
him.
Right.
In the Kingdom.
SPEAKER_05 (08:37):
He is a good actor.
But then you also have BrittanySnow.
She's from Pitch Perfect.
Right.
I have a girl crush on her.
I
SPEAKER_03 (08:45):
mean, that's.
valid.
SPEAKER_05 (08:48):
I liked her in Pitch
Perfect.
I think she's a beautiful woman.
So I'm really excited to see herin this role.
Then you also have ElizabethShum.
SPEAKER_03 (08:56):
Yes.
Karate Kid fame.
SPEAKER_05 (08:59):
Uh-huh.
Cobra Kai.
SPEAKER_03 (09:00):
Allie.
SPEAKER_05 (09:00):
Never dies.
Right.
And then you also have DavidArquette.
And David Arquette, I think whenwe get to interview him today,
that this is going to be fun.
Oh,
SPEAKER_04 (09:11):
yeah.
SPEAKER_05 (09:11):
To talk about his
role in this, to talk about what
he sees as takeaways and overallarching themes.
I mean, I'm really excited todive in with him.
SPEAKER_03 (09:21):
I like, I am too,
because this is, like I said, or
like we just talked about, thisis a real life movie.
This is kind of like a lifelesson type deal.
Everybody grieves.
SPEAKER_05 (09:32):
Yep.
SPEAKER_03 (09:32):
And everybody
grieves differently.
SPEAKER_05 (09:34):
Well, and families
now are so blended, right?
You can have step parents, butyou can also have, you know,
adopted siblings or havedifferent relationships with
different family members.
To me, it is a true picture ofthe American family now,
SPEAKER_04 (09:51):
right?
SPEAKER_05 (09:52):
So I don't know.
I feel like the message thatit's going to give, I'm probably
going to cry through the wholedamn thing, but I'm excited to
watch it.
SPEAKER_03 (10:01):
Me too.
That's not my standard movie, but I do think that it is a life
lesson worth watching for sure.
SPEAKER_02 (10:13):
I'm excited.
SPEAKER_03 (10:14):
Kind of explaining
that everybody grieves in
different ways.
And without further ado, weintroduce David Arquette.
Hey there.
Is this David?
Yes, sir.
Hey, how are you?
SPEAKER_01 (10:29):
I'm good.
How are you doing?
SPEAKER_03 (10:31):
We're doing really
good.
I mean, this is crazy.
My wife over here is losing hershit a little bit.
Trying not to
SPEAKER_05 (10:37):
fangirl too hard.
Okay.
SPEAKER_01 (10:41):
Lynn.
Oh, thank you.
That's sweet to hear.
SPEAKER_05 (10:46):
We have some
questions for you today, David,
and we can't thank you enoughfor coming on and being part of
the Unfiltered Union.
SPEAKER_04 (10:52):
Yes.
SPEAKER_05 (10:53):
I'm going to take a
SPEAKER_04 (10:54):
few deep breaths.
SPEAKER_01 (10:57):
We can all take
SPEAKER_03 (10:58):
a deep breath.
That's right.
That's right.
This is just a casualconversation here.
SPEAKER_05 (11:02):
Yep, it is.
Okay.
I'm going to hold it together.
Well, I think we've been talkingabout your new movie coming out,
The Good Half, and we've beenOh, man.
SPEAKER_01 (11:26):
I mean, there's a
lot of heavy topics they deal
with, but they deal with it witha real sense of humor.
My character says something atsome point where he says, we all
grieve in our own ways.
And that was sort of a prettymeaningful line.
You know, Nate's other charactergets really upset at my
(11:47):
character.
I play a character named Rick, who's his stepdad.
And I sort of tell this joke inthe background at the memorial
service after, not party, thegathering and he gets really
upset and I sort of confront himwith his behavior during the
(12:08):
whole time and it becomes thisreally heated argument.
But what the audience doesn'tknow is the reason I get so
upset is because there was alimousine and the limousine went
from the funeral to thisgathering and in the script I
was supposed to be in thelimousine and the director
called me up and he said, listen, I'm just going to have
(12:30):
the family in the limousine soyou can come in an hour later to
work.
I was like, fine.
That's cool.
UNKNOWN (12:38):
Uh,
SPEAKER_01 (12:39):
But what he didn't
know, I was cool with it,
myself.
As the character, I was reallyupset because the character had
paid for the limousine, hepicked it out, and now he's not
allowed to ride in it.
So when I get upset with NickJonas, it's more from a
personal, shallow reason ratherthan me actually being upset
(13:02):
with his feelings.
SPEAKER_05 (13:04):
I mean, I can't
imagine you guys as a cast,
like, The whole cast that'sinvolved just seems so
star-studded.
The idea that you guys kept astraight face through this whole
movie and based on theseriousness of the topics, I
don't believe it.
SPEAKER_03 (13:20):
How many takes did
you have to do for a lot of
these scenes?
SPEAKER_01 (13:26):
Yeah, we did have to
take a few.
I mean, it's funny.
Like, my character is sort ofthe outcast in the whole group.
I mean, they have this sort ofreally tight-knit bond.
And I'm always the one thatthey're kind of talking behind
his back and all this stuff.
So, I don't know.
I kind of felt like an outcast alittle bit when I was even
(13:46):
there.
Sometimes I just like a hug.
He also had a lot of confidence,a lot more confidence than I
had, so he didn't take any of itpersonally.
It's a really interesting way tosort of play a character because
in my head, in my responses tocertain situations, I would
(14:07):
initially think, oh, how I wouldthink.
But then I would think mycharacter would never think like
that.
So I can completely turn on adime and not take it personally
or be offended or annoyed.
I found being annoyed withpeople a lot was his sort of
go-to because he thought himselfas better than everyone else.
SPEAKER_05 (14:32):
Well, I mean, here
at Unfiltered Union, we like to
think that you have completefreedom to have your own
opinions and you shouldn't takethings personal.
So I feel like your characterRick would be very welcomed
here.
UNKNOWN (14:45):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (14:45):
rick would take
control of unfiltered you bring
it on make it a show and kind oftalk you know talk over everyone
steer it toward what he liked
SPEAKER_03 (15:02):
that's awesome so so
i've got a question uh what was
it like working with nick jonasuh my wife is a pretty big fan
and i am too from from thekingdom and we both are big fans
of that show as well.
So what was it like working withhim?
SPEAKER_01 (15:19):
Yeah.
I was so impressed with the wayhe balanced the humor and the
drama in this role.
He had this really sort ofcutting, dry sense of humor.
He and Brittany Snow playbrother and sister.
And their banter back and forthis really kind of like
understated and reallyquick-witted.
(15:40):
And it was funny to just watchthem.
I got to see them before I I seethem do like sort of initial
scenes before I had to work withthem.
So I could see how they wererelating to each other and how
they kind of had their tempodown and how they kind of threw
(16:01):
things away.
So it was funny.
And I could come in with my kindof take on it, be a little more
like matter of factly or, youknow, just, you know, just kind
of, throw it out there ratherthan kind
SPEAKER_05 (16:15):
of throw it kind of
under their breath like they
were playing I'm so excited Ican't wait to see this movie I
think it's going to have a greatmessage a great overall theme to
it so many heavy topics thatwe've talked about but what do
you hope that viewers of themovie take away from the movie
The Good Half
SPEAKER_01 (16:35):
you know I hope
people find some healing from it
I mean it's a really kind oftraumatic experience to go
through to lose someone whocares so deeply about.
So if you can kind of like, youknow, the movie does a really
great job of like looking backon the good times that he had
with his mother.
That's what the good halfrepresents, like the time he
(16:57):
shared with them.
And then what brought me a lotof sort of healing and closure
is that I find that gratitude.
When you can sit back and havegratitude to the people that
were in your life and thepeople, the time that you have
(17:18):
spent with them, you canremember those good times.
It really helps the healing
SPEAKER_03 (17:23):
process.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I love this because we talkedabout this right before we, we
jumped on the phone with you anda lot of the films out now are
just, they're, they're, they'refantasy, you know, but this is
like a real life movie, youknow, I just feel as if
everybody needs to watch thingslike this every once in a while
(17:47):
because it's just good for thesoul.
SPEAKER_01 (17:49):
For sure.
For sure.
Yeah.
It's grounded.
It's real.
Exactly.
It's so real.
UNKNOWN (17:56):
There's some hilarious
moments.
SPEAKER_01 (17:59):
How awkward it is
sometimes going through these
time periods.
Somebody coming up to you andsaying, how are you doing?
When it's like the worst day ofyour life.
Yeah.
If you can learn to laugh aboutsome of those things, I think
that's also
SPEAKER_03 (18:17):
really helpful.
Oh, yeah.
Humor.
Humor is good medicine.
SPEAKER_05 (18:20):
Absolutely.
It is healing and good for thesoul.
Agreed.
Well, I think overall, when wetalk about your role as Rick, he
does seem to depict almost likea stepdad, right?
He's the blended family on themom's side.
But I feel like a modern blendedfamily is every day now, right?
(18:43):
That is an average thing.
I mean, how do you feel the roledepicts the struggles of the
blended family?
SPEAKER_01 (18:48):
Yeah, I mean, you
kind of have to sometimes, you
know, deal with, I mean, justeven in any family, everyone has
their own dynamic and everyonehas their own personality.
Everyone has their own needs andwants.
You know, their pushy side andtheir, you know, their, everyone
just has their own personality.
(19:09):
So you have to kind ofunderstand understand that even
within a blended familysometimes it's harder because
there's like new people in yourlife and you have to kind of
accept that and hopefullyeveryone can get along
especially with you know thestate of the world right now
where everybody's kind ofquarreling about their own sort
of separate things it'simportant to just accept people
(19:32):
for who they are and how theyare also you know stand up for
what you believe
SPEAKER_03 (19:40):
Yeah, and you don't
have to get mad when somebody
has differing opinions than you.
SPEAKER_05 (19:46):
Man, that's the
tagline for the Unfiltered
Union.
Listen at you,
SPEAKER_03 (19:49):
David.
Have you been on the showbefore?
SPEAKER_05 (20:00):
Well, we've got you
for just a couple more minutes,
and I'm going to switch gears onyou for a second.
My dad would be really upsetwith me if I didn't ask you a
question about your WCWchampionship.
SPEAKER_04 (20:11):
Okay.
SPEAKER_05 (20:14):
How was that
experience?
I mean, you you won a WCWchampionship.
I mean, with your background, you're a phenomenal actor.
Again, I fangirled a little bitat the beginning here, but how
did it feel being a part of thatorganization and winning that
championship?
SPEAKER_01 (20:30):
Well, it was
incredible.
I mean, just to be within thewrestling world, it's really
interesting.
Like, you know, I did adocumentary called You Cannot
Kill David Arquette where I wentback and I independent wrestled
for a couple years and reallygot to know the business and to
meet the fans and the fans areso incredible when you go like
(20:51):
city to city and you meet themin person and you see how much
wrestling means to them and howmuch they enjoy the sport and
just the storylines and meetingall these legends.
That's what was my favoritepart, meeting all these
incredible people that I lookedup to as a kid and getting to
(21:12):
tour with them.
But it was incredible.
I understand how upset the fansgot when I won.
I hope me coming back sort ofhelped a little and showing some
respect to the business becausethat's what it ultimately is.
There's so many generationalfamilies involved.
(21:32):
There's so many people that puttheir lives on the line and
just, you know, commit all theirtime from driving city to city
to either be vendors or be thewrestlers or be the people
putting on the show.
So, you know, I have nothing butlove and respect for wrestling.
I love watching it now.
I love seeing my friends that Iwrestled with, you know, taking
(21:56):
it to the next level like JackPerry with his new scapegoat.
I don't care It's an amazingsport.
It's an amazing world to be apart of.
SPEAKER_03 (22:08):
That's awesome.
He's going to love that answer.
SPEAKER_04 (22:13):
He
SPEAKER_03 (22:13):
will.
And I've got a question for you.
So we kind of asked our friends, what would they ask you if they
were on this interview?
And my favorite one that wepulled out was, what were your
favorite behind-the-scenesmoments during filming of
Scream?
SPEAKER_01 (22:31):
I think behind the
scenes moments where there was
one dinner party we had right atthe sort of middle to end of
screen one where we all went tothis winery.
It was just such a fun night, and Wes was just on fire and
telling stories and just hischarming self.
(22:51):
I mean, my favorite parts reallywere working with Wes Griggs.
I think there was like a kinshipbetween my character, Dewey, and
his sense of humor and sort ofhis heart, that he'd find these
little moments where he'd throwout little jokes or little
reactions, that, I don't know, always kind of stuck with me.
(23:16):
There's one moment where I jumpoff and my character and Gail's
character roll and she says, isthat what you're looking for?
And then I look at her and say,my whole life.
That was a Wes Craven, like hewanted me to really take that
moment and look at her like I'dbeen searching for this woman my
whole life.
And it was just so...

He was in so much back in the
2000s.
He's still in a lot right now,but that's how we know him as

I like the premise of the movie, how it's real-life lessons while
rapping and humor because youknow humor is a good medicine
and it's free
SPEAKER_05 (25:30):
yep I can't wait to

about the cast he even talkedabout the cast and like to know
their dynamics like that wealmost got like insider scoop on
it

you all are gonna get the
insider scoop too
SPEAKER_05 (25:45):
absolutely I'm
really excited for this movie
I'm probably gonna cry my eyesout I wanted to talk to you
about one of the commercialsthat David was actually in back
in those early 2000s was in erawhen he was married to Courtney
Cox.
They did a Coke commercial.
SPEAKER_02 (26:00):
Right.
SPEAKER_05 (26:00):
And in the Coke
commercial, do you remember
this?
SPEAKER_02 (26:01):
No.
SPEAKER_05 (26:03):
Okay.
In the Coke commercial, Courtneyis getting herself a Coke and it
looks like they're just in theirhouse, right?
It's in every day.
And David yells into the house, hey, can you get me a drink too?
Or can you get me a Coke too?
So Courtney only has one left.
So what she does is she fillsone cup up with ice and then
pours in the Coke and then keepsthe rest of the can for herself
(26:26):
and gives that to David.
I'm like, is that not everymarriage ever?
SPEAKER_03 (26:31):
Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_05 (26:32):
Right?
SPEAKER_03 (26:34):
Yeah.
I'll get you one, but I'mgetting the most.
SPEAKER_05 (26:36):
Right?
Like, I mean, the idea is, youknow, they were a married couple
and you've got one Coke left.
What do you do?
I'm like, that makes so muchsense.
SPEAKER_03 (26:44):
Oh, yeah, for sure.
For sure.
I'm trying to think of a momentthat I may have done that with
you.
SPEAKER_05 (26:49):

marriage.

it.

You don't like to drink hotcoffee.
So if I make it for you, youdon't even drink it right away.
SPEAKER_05 (27:05):

make mine first so it cools
down.

SPEAKER_03 (27:09):
I have to ingest it.
It can be molten lava and I willdrink it.
SPEAKER_05 (27:13):

the very beginning.
