Born in India, Mona immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of eight months. Arriving with only six dollars in their pockets, her parents inspired her with their determination and hope for a brighter future. Mona’s educational journey reflects her commitment to driving systemic change. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, an MBA in sustainable business and has attended the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University, further preparing her to tackle societal challenges through innovation and leadership.
Her career spans entrepreneurship, public service, and storytelling. As the founder of MOXY Money LLC, she spent two decades running a successful mortgage business. In 2018, Mona made history by winning a seat in the Washington State Senate. During her tenure, she passed nearly 30 impactful bills, addressing issues such as environmental protection, housing affordability, and equitable representation. Notably, she championed Senate Bill 5022, which banned certain single-use plastics in Washington, marking a significant step in the fight against plastic pollution.
In 2022, upon leaving the senate, Mona began advising nonprofits and political candidates on effective fundraising strategies, and executive produced the award-winning documentary Bad Ass Women Doing Kick Ass Shit, which highlights the journeys of eight BIPOC women running for political office. The film has received several accolades, including two Telly Awards and recognition at multiple global competitions, amplifying the voices of underrepresented leaders and inspiring systemic change.
