On March 12, 1963, three active-duty United States Army paratroopers, out for a night on the town, meet Rudy Ziemer as he stumbles out of a popular bar and restaurant on Evansville's southeast side.
Authorities released the three paratroopers on $10,000 bail and the trial was moved to a nearby farming community.
The defense strategy becomes very clear during opening testimony. Two of the states' key witnesses testify.
As Evansville holds its collective breath, in Boonville, the jury delivers its verdict.
