"Every patient is a person, an individual, a human being. And we've got to make sure, no matter what age and how far on they are in their dementia, that they have that dignity right up to the end."
June Ainsley works full time with autistic and special needs children. But due to the help she received from a dementia charity here in Sunderland when her mother was admitted to hospital, she now spends her free time organising fundraising campaigns.
Whether it's dressing as Elvis and visiting the guests, organising fundraising events such as the upcoming sponsored 'bed push' along the seafront, or organising collections for objects like hairdryers, pyjamas, underwear, toiletries, stationary and shampoo, which people would otherwise go without.
The Dementia Outreach Team (or DOT) at Sunderland General Hospital have nominated June for this month's Stars of Sunderland - and we couldn't agree more!
Stars of Sunderland, created by journalist James Barker, showcases people in Sunderland who have done amazing things in their community - and gives a little back to the people who go out of their way to do so much.
But before we begin today, we have some really good news to share...

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
