Whether you're a step-father seekingthe perfect serenade or a bride
yearning to honor the man who raisedyou, this collection, our top 22
step-father step-daughter wedding dancesong, promises to resonate deeply,
creating an unforgettable memory thatwill be cherished for a lifetime.
(03:20):
Each song on this list holds thepower to transform a simple dance
into a profound expression ofgratitude, love, and acceptance.
But first, the vibe, the genre, popularity, or familiarity of a song could
all play a role in the selection process.
Also, look for a song that capturesthe unique relationship and avoids
(03:44):
lyrics about being a young child.
Some options discussed include havingseparate dances with each or having
the step-father cut in part waythrough the Father Daughter dance.
Finally, you can make the step-fatherstep-daughter dance memorable
beyond just the song choice.
For example, incorporatingspecial choreography or having
(04:05):
the DJ MC share a personalizedstory about their relationship.
There are many other chances to beunique, but those will get you started.
Let's get a little contextof this wedding tradition.
Now, remember the Father Daughter dancestems from, our patriarchal history
where the daughter was, arrangedmarriage and given away and there
(04:30):
was some monetary alliance created.
Remember back in those days, the FatherDaughter dance was the last dance
that the dad had with his daughterbefore she was literally given away.
So that's where the FatherDaughter dance comes from.
(04:51):
In our modern times, we have usurpedthis really with the first dance.
That is, you know, we come to the weddingreception, the bride and groom or the
couple have their first dance before theFather Daughter or, mother son dance.
So that's a little historical perspective.
Now we're going to give you our top22 step-father, step-daughter, wedding
(05:15):
dance songs in no particular order.
Of course you can Google these songs orlook for them in your favorite, music app.
First one I want to mention isRob Thomas, "Little Wonders."
It's a Disney animated feature,Meet the Robinsons, from 2007, and
it is a beautiful song, of course, you know, most Disney songs are, and
(05:39):
it really encapsulates what, we'retrying to get here, the step-father,
step-daughter wedding dance song.
Another one is Brad Paisley"He Didn't Have To Be."
This is a nice slow countrysong that came out in 1999.
And what was cool about this songis it talks about the story on how
this man didn't have to step up,but did, making it a great song for
(06:03):
the step-father step-daughter dance.
Nice.
I like that Brad Paisley.
Very nice song.
Next up would be Ben Platt, "In CaseYou Don't Live Forever" from 2019.
He sings about the importanceof cherishing the moments
we have with our loved ones.
Of course, that is very important.
The next one, I wantto go back to the 70s.
(06:24):
The 70s soul song, " LeanOn Me", by Bill Withers.
Loads of different versions of thisthat you can pick your favorite.
But to me, the originalis still the classic.
Bill Withers "Lean On Me".
I love that song, Sam.
It's just, the storylinebehind it is so awesome.
Another one is JenniferHart, "Half the Man."
This is a slow song withstrong female vocals.
(06:45):
It came out in 2020.
We have Riley Roth, " WhenGod Made My Father."
Another, again, slow songwith a strong female vocal.
More appropriate for the FatherDaughter Dance, but still works.
And that came out in 2022.
And I want to put another one in there,"Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson.
What an awesome song thatshe delivered in 2015.
(07:09):
if you want to go something a littlenewer from the, from the older songs.
Speaking of older songs, let's, nipback to 1970, chart topping song,
"The Wonder Of You" from Elvis Presley.
Now, this was first released byRay Peterson, so it's a version.
If you want to find the Ray Petersonversion, you can certainly do that.
(07:29):
In 2016, there is a versionof this song featuring the
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Again, you can pick yourown version of that one.
Another great song, came out in 2022, iscalled "Step by Step" by Brandon Davis.
And another favorite, it seems to be,for many people is Kenny Chesney's
(07:49):
"Don't Blink", which came out in 2007.
And let's not forget,Disney's always a good thing.
1994, Elton John came out with"Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"
for the Lion King movie.
Now, one song that gets a notable mention, and it's one of my personal favorites,
is "Color Him Father" by the Winstons.
It's from 1969 and was number 7 onthe Billboard Hot 100 of that year.
(08:14):
The song narrates a boy expressinghis love for his step-father.
There's a country version by LindaMartell from the same period.
Even if you can't use it, take a listen.
The sentiment is extraordinary andyou can also use it, as applicable for
a step-father, step-daughter dance.
Check it out.
(08:35):
We've just explained 11of our top 22 step-father
step-daughter wedding dance songs.
Coming up next, 11 more.

You heard songs from artists like EltonJohn, Elvis, Bill Withers, and of course,
country music was, again, well representedby Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley.
(10:41):
Now we have some examples comingup next that would work for a
step-father, step-daughter weddingdance or a Father Daughter Wedding
Dance, but not included in this list.
There is the classic "Butterfly Kisses"by Bob Carlyle, "Gracie" by Ben Folds,
"How You've Grown" from Kathy Mattea,"I Hope You Dance" by Leanne Womack.
(11:05):
You can use that song in a variety ofdifferent traditional wedding dances.
"Sweet Pea" by Amos Lee.
" You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker.
The classic "Daddy'sLittle Girl" by Al Martino.
" Daughter" by Loudon Wainwright III.
He wrote that specificallyfor his daughter.
(11:27):
And "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon.
Something I want to kind of add, Sam,is something you need to remember.
Every relationship isdifferent when it comes to the
step-father and step-daughter.
For some, for the step-daughter,that man's been in their
life since a very young age.
So, using a song that's typicallya Father Daughter dance could
(11:49):
be absolutely appropriate.
So it depends on your relationshipon what's going to work best for you.
Now, back to our list.
There's an artist, hisname is Cody Johnson.
He created a song called,"God Bless The Boy".
But then he later changedit for his daughter, Cori.
So, now it's called, GodBless The Boy, Cori's song.
(12:10):
This is something he did very special, for his daughter and it's full of emotion.
And now, Luther Vandross, one ofmy favorite artists, from 2003.
This is "Dance With My Father", a songwritten with Richard Marks, and it's
based on Luther's personal experience.
The lyrics recall his childhoodmemories of his dad, who used to
(12:31):
dance with him, and his mother.
Now, there are versions by CelineDion, and you can get that from the
46th Grammy Awards, video, and that'sfrom 2004, or there's a video
circling around on YouTube from JessicaSanchez, either one would, fit the
bill, but again, one of my favorites.
(12:53):
You also have a country song from 2018.
Very nice country slowlove song from Tyler Wood.
It's called simply, "Dad".
And from one of the classic rockgreats, Tom Petty, he'd, put out a
song called "Wildflowers" in 1994.
Miranda Lambert, hugein the country, genre.
(13:14):
"Roots and Wings", which came out in 2015.
And here's a name that I could neverever say, so we all just call him IZ.
And he did a song called "Over theRainbow, What a Wonderful World",
and he used to do it with theukulele, and that came out in 1988.
Well, i'm going to attempthis name Israel Kamakawiwoʻole
(13:34):
Is that close enough?
That sounds good to me.
Ha-ha, Haaah, hah, hah, hah
All right, now we have a, anothersong that is, from Elvie Shane.
Not to be confused with Elvis.
This is Elvie Shane and "My Boy",and it's the My Girl version.
It's, 2020, A new take on his own song.
(13:56):
Another country artist therethat, has kind of twisted the
lyrics, from his old song My Boy.
It's now "My Boy, My Girl version".
Abby Anderson, "Daddy."
It's a slow love song and a femalevocal, more appropriate for a Father
Daughter dance, but it still works.
From 2014, go and check that one out.
(14:17):
Abby Anderson's "Daddy".
Now a granddaddy of greatlove songs is Kenny Rogers.
And from his 20 Oh, three release,it's "Handprints On The Wall".
I've used this a couple of times.
Absolutely stunning song.
I'm not sure why it wasn't a biggerhit, but this is a heartfelt tribute
(14:38):
to the timeless bond between a fatherand their daughter, or you can use
it, any other place cause it reallytalks about parents and their child.
Now, here is a classic rock groupcalled Fleetwood Mac with an incredible
lead singer, Stevie Nicks, who dida song called "Landslide" back in
the 70s, and then it was redone fora live album, which the very famous
(15:03):
words at the very beginning of thesong is, "This one's for you, daddy."
Everyone loves this song, and they use it so often.
Yeah.
The story behind that Sal, and I'mnot sure you, know, this little
tidbit of useless information.
Stevie Nicks wrote this song whenshe was in Aspen, Colorado, sitting
on someone's living room floor andlooking out at the Rocky Mountains and
(15:26):
pondering the avalanche of everythingthat had come crashing down, on her.
She'd recently lost her label, recording contract and I think
she was, breaking up with LindseyBuckingham and, kind of wrote that.
So it is very poignant, that inthe live version, she does say,
"this one's for you, daddy."
Really, really good song though.
(15:47):
Good choice.
Next one up is Andy Grammer and,Rehab, "Saved My Life" from 2022.
An upbeat, synth laden, trackwritten, about his godmother,
Lee, who cared for him after hismother passed away when he was 25.
So it is really heartwarming.
(16:08):
And then Christine Aguilera, and she singsa Diane Warren song, and Diane Warren
is a classic songwriter of so manygreat hits, Google her, you'll, know 90
percent of the songs that she's written.
It's called "I Turn To You" and it wasoriginally recorded, by All For One.
And I remember this because it was onthe soundtrack to Space Jam, great movie
(16:30):
from 1996, It only received recognitionwhen Christina redid it in 1999.
So that's Christina Aguileraand "I Turn To You".
Another great song is "I'll BeYour Man" by Zac Brown Band.
Came out in 2015.
Now, when you listen to these lyrics, you might think, hey, you know, that
(16:50):
might be a Father Daughter dance, but as I mentioned earlier in this
podcast, a lot of these men have beenearly in the life of these women.
So, at a very young age, really, they are dad.
They are the father.
That's how they look at them.
So, this may be a reallygood song for you.
So, it's something you definitelywant to take a listen to.
And that completes our Top 22 step-fatherstep-daughter Wedding Dance Songs.
(17:13):
So there you have it.
We've just provided some insidertips on the top 22 step-father
step-daughter wedding dance songs.
Now, the key factor in choosing anappropriate step-father step-daughter
wedding dance song would be thelyrics and the sentiment expressed,
rather than the specific familialrelationship mentioned in the song.
(17:38):
Songs that convey a deep love, prideand appreciation for the unique
bond between a father figure and hisstep-father could be fitting choices.
