In the wake of the George Floyd brutal homicide, millions around the world have taken to the streets in protest of police brutality. Nevermind that the coronavirus seems to have vanished from their minds, these are serious issues that folks are justifiably angry about. It is not okay that a man minding his own business, hurting no one, and committing no crime, was murdered by anyone, let alone the police. And while there are calls around the nation to "defund" the police, I doubt that will actually happen, and it misses the point entirely. The police are not the problem. They're simply the result of a much larger problem; a population addicted to government, and a government that enacts random legislation that must be enforced by all means by an army called the police. Victimless crimes are created that cause innocent and peaceful persons to have encounters with law enforcement that could be so easily prevented in the first place. You don't have to defund the police. Remove the legislation that creates crimes with no victims, effectively shrinking the police force as a result. Then defund the state. The state exists to protect life, liberty, and property, and nothing more. That is not how they operate today. Take away their source of revenue, and render them irrelevant. Today on Straight Up, I get into all of this, and explain how Voluntaryism and Agorism can lead to a more peaceful society. One that has a foundation in actual individual liberty and economic freedom. And I swear a lot. So enjoy :) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
