The Articulate Fly fishing podcast brings you essential Central Pennsylvania fishing insights with George Costa from TCO Fly Shop in State College.

As summer fishing conditions settle into their seasonal patterns, Costa reports above-average flows throughout Central PA despite recent dry spells, creating excellent opportunities for technical summer fishing.

Listeners discover prime Trico hatch timing on Spring Creek, along with proven terrestrial fishing strategies using Chubby Chernobyls, hoppers, ants and beetles as the terrestrial season peaks.

Costa shares critical water temperature monitoring advice for midday fishing, particularly on waters like the J and Penns Creek where temps can climb too high.

The report covers current stream conditions across Central Pennsylvania waters, highlighting the transition from early season abundance to more challenging technical summer presentations.

Whether you're targeting morning Trico emergences or working terrestrial patterns through summer heat, this Central Pennsylvania fishing update provides the local knowledge needed to maximize your time on the water as the season progresses toward fall.

Hey, folks, it's Marvin Cash, the host of the Articulate Fly. We're
back with another Central PAFishing report with George Costa
of TCO Fly Shop in StateCollege. George, how are you?
I'm amazing as always. Marvin, how are you?
And as always, I'm just tryingto stay out of trouble. You know,
we were comparing notes beforewe started recording and, you know,
while we're a little bit cool, kind of on the eastern seaboard,

(00:23):
we've gotten a ton of raindown here. But you haven't quite
gotten the same rainfall wehave. But you're still in pretty
good shape, right?
Yes, indeed. So we got all ourrain earlier in the year, but it's
been kind of dry the pastcouple of weeks. We don't have any
real precipitation for lookslike the next, you know, seven to
ten day forecast. But streamlevels from all the rain we had earlier
in the year are still good. Sowe've got slightly above average

(00:46):
summer flows right now. Solevels on pretty much everything
have been, you know, seasonalsummertime on the clear side, definitely
getting into that tougher, technical, more summer type of fishing,
but flows are not bad. Tempson the water definitely midday temps
are starting to creep up andget a little too hot, especially
in like the J or pen. So checkyour stream temps out there midday,

(01:10):
so levels are not bad. Andfishing has been pretty good though
we've got good Trico action onmost of the streams around here.
Spring Creek especially, seeing really good Trico's in the
morning. So good dry flyactivity on that and terrestrial
patterns have been workinggreat. Chubby, Chernobyls, hoppers,
ants, beetles, things likethat. We're right in the thick of
the terrestrial season rightnow. So fishing has been solid, it's

(01:31):
been steady and consistent, which is nice.
Yeah. And so we're gonna marchinto the dog days of summer. Right.
And which means that at theshop you're probably getting ready
for kind of the kickoff ofkind of fall fishing and probably
like fall slash wintereducation, right?
Yeah, for sure. We're gonnahave a bunch of classes this coming
season. Those will allprobably be up within the next two
to three weeks, maybe a littlemore, till we kind of get everything

(01:53):
organized. So look for all ourawesome fall classes, seminars, things
like that. I'm sure we'll havea bunch fall into winter this year.
And yes, you know, fallseason's coming up, so we've definitely
got some good sales up on thewebsite with, you know, all this
season stuff going on sale, socheck that stuff out as well.
Yeah. Well, there you go. Andyou know, folks, we love questions

(02:14):
on the articulate fly. Wedidn't get one this time, and that
makes George sad. Right,George? Sad. So, you know, if you
want stickers, which thesedays, I keep telling folks, includes
some stickers for the newpodcast, the Butcher Shop, and to
get entered in a drawing forsome cool stuff from the shop at
the end season, you need tosend us questions. But, George, before
I let you hop and return tothe bliss that is retail fly fishing,

(02:35):
you want to let folks knowshop hours, location and all that
kind of good stuff.
Absolutely. We're here. 23rdEast College Avenue and State College.
We are open 926- Monday-Saturday, 9 to 3 on Sundays. All
of our other stores are opensimilar hours, so check out our website,
tcflyfishing.com for all the info.
There you go. And as folks, asI always say, this time of year,

(02:57):
stay cool, but show it toyourself to get out there and catch
a few. Tight lines, everybody.Tight lines, George.
Take it easy, Marvin.
