The Articulate Fly brings you the latest Central PA Fishing Report with George Costa from TCO Fly Shop in State College, delivering essential insights for technical fall fishing conditions.

Costa breaks down current stream conditions across Central Pennsylvania, where low, clear water and steady stream temperatures are creating challenging but rewarding fishing opportunities for skilled anglers.

Learn how to adapt your approach for technical fishing situations using long, light leaders and lighter tippet, while mastering the art of stealth presentation in crystal-clear water.

Costa shares specific timing strategies for morning trico hatches and evening terrestrial action with hoppers, ants and beetles, plus reveals why targeting deeper slots, pockets and eddies is key to success right now. Get the inside scoop on emerging October Caddis activity and discover why wading like a heron and making precise casts from good positions can make the difference between success and frustration.

With fall guide trips and fly tying classes booking fast at TCO, this timely report helps you maximize your Central Pennsylvania fishing opportunities before the season shifts.

(00:04):
Hey folks, it's Marvin Cash, the host of The Articulate Fly. We're
back with another Central PAFishing report with George Costa
of TCO Fly Shop and StateCollege. George, how are you?
I'm amazing as always. Marvin, how are you?
And as always, I'm just tryingto stay out of trouble. And we were,
we were chatting before westarted recording and looks like
maybe in about five or sixdays you're going to kind of start
to slide into that fall, cooloff and maybe get a little rain.

(00:27):
Yeah, I hope so. I mean theweather has been pretty seasonal
out here. It's been coolnights which has been great. Got
a little bit of warm up thepast couple days here up into the
high 70s, low 80s, but tempshave been good at night stream temps
have been holding steady.Haven't seen too much to concern
as far as temps go in theafternoon. It's definitely been slow
in the afternoons. Just withthe bright, clear, sunshiny days

(00:51):
and low, clear water. It'sbeen tough and technical. But next
week looks like we should geta little shot of rain. We'll take
anything. Right now it's, youknow, pretty low, pretty clear and
on the fishing front it'sbeen, it's been pretty good. I mean
mornings have been great. We're still seeing some tricos around
here and there. Tankatis inthe evening have been good. Terrestrial
bite is still really goodwith, you know, hoppers, ants, beetles,

(01:14):
things like that. So there'sdefinitely some good top water action
early in the day and then lateagain in the day. I'm just starting
to see a couple of OctoberCattus pop here and there. Nothing
too heavy yet, but you know, that's right around the corner. And
fish have been eating well aslong as you're using those long light
leaders, lighter tippet, youknow, more technical. So take your
time working water and youknow, work those deeper slots, pockets

(01:36):
and you know, rivoli spots andguys have been getting good amount
of fish.
Yeah. And stay out of thewater or if you have to get in the
water weighed like a heron. Right.
Pretty much. Pretty much creepup on them because it is clear and
it is low. So you know, takeyour time, get into position and
make good casts. That's prettymuch been the key.
Be a ninja like George, right?

(01:56):
Oh, I don't know about that.
But you were telling me beforewe started recording you like that.
You were telling me before youstarted recording that you've also
got a fair number of fishyadventures coming up.
Yeah, I got some stuff Comingup, we've got a group going the Montauk
to get in on some striper andAlby action. We've got a bunch of

(02:17):
fun things going on in theshop this fall, so there's all sorts
of things going on up here.Staying busy. October is going to
be a busy month for us uphere, so if you want to get in on
any guide trips up here, callnow because we're pretty much getting
booked up.
Yeah, and I bet your, I betyour fall classes are getting booked
up too, for sure.
We just posted a ton ofclasses online this past week. We've
got seven or eight tyingclasses going on, beginners, fly

(02:40):
tying, a bunch of really goodclasses with our guides Sam and Frank.
You know, winter fishing, monorig fishing, all sorts of good classes
going on. All of our shopshave a bunch of classes going up.
So fall, winter is a greattime to take a class to brush up
on your skills and get readyfor the next year.
Absolutely. And folks, we lovequestions on the articulate fly and
we want George to be happy. Soplease email or DM me your questions.

(03:04):
If we use your question, Iwill send you some articulate fly
swag. Probably throw in acouple butcher shop stickers and
we're going to draw forsomething cool from the shop at the
end of the season. And George, before I let you go back to retail
bliss, you want to let folksknow hours and all that kind of good
stuff.
Absolutely. We are here inState College 9 to 6 Monday through
Saturday, 9 to 3 on Sundays. All of our shops are open similar

(03:25):
hours. So stop in the shop, get geared up, stop in any of our
shops or visit us on theweb@tcofly fishing.com and let us
know what you need. We'll getyou rigged up and ready to get out
there.
There you go. Well, folks, asalways, say, yo, it's yourself to
get out there and catch a fewtight lines, everybody. Tight lines,
George.
All right, have a good one. Thanks, Marvin.
