One of the most significant challenges I faced after the divorce was living with uncertainty.
Having been with my ex-husband for 23 years, our family structure and daily routines were so predictable. Then, here I was, suddenly trying to pave a new road.
For sure, most of you have felt the same way. But what I know to be true is that you’re more resilient than you give yourself credit for.
Here are some of my empowering strategies to help you embrace the unknown and welcome your new life with grace and courage.
Tune in to this episode on How To Face Uncertainty in Divorce
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Embrace the present moment. The only time that truly exists is now. Have a mindfulness practice like breathwork and meditation. Shifting your focus to the now brings clarity and peace because you’re grasping something certain.
✔️ Cultivate self-compassion. Extend yourself the same kindness you give others. Acknowledge the emotions coming up for you and name these feelings without judgment. Treat yourself like you’re your own best friend!
✔️ See your divorce as an opportunity for self-growth. Now’s the time to invest in your personal development! Rekindle the parts of yourself that you’ve sacrificed to accommodate your marriage. Give yourself the chance to step out of your comfort zone.
✔️ Adopt a neutral mindset. Life changes all the time. Stop categorizing what happens to you as “good” or “bad”. This allows you to easily adapt to any situation and slowly shed the controller mindset. The unexpected can happen in the best possible way.
✔️ Have a community of people to support you. Not friends, not family – but others who have experienced similar journeys. You must have a safe space where you can gain insights and feel encouraged.
Living with uncertainty after divorce requires patience. If you implement any of these strategies, I know that you’ll be able to navigate your life with a sense of confidence, stability, assurance, and faith.
