How does Maman Brigitte come into existence through the transatlantic slave trade? The Celtic Goddess, Brigid, travels with the Irish indentured servants and slaves at the same time the Haitians are coming to America. The amalgamation of their religious and spiritual cultures are seen in the form of Maman Brigitte who is the only loa with white skin and flaming red hair.
Maman Brigitte is spicy with her rooster, profane language, and her hot pepper rum or whiskey. She rules the connection to the dead, ancestors and helps reunite the dead with the living. Maman Brigitte protects forgotten cemeteries and she is known to protect women in need, especially from abuse. This fiery, sexual goddess also has the power to heal or to smooth the transition to the other side. Join April and Maggie as they share some of her personality, her inception, and her powerful presence!
