Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Sandy and before we get to today's show,
just going to let you know that the JB and
Sandy Hour is now from seven until eight o'clock Monday
through Friday. That's seven until eight o'clock Monday through Friday.
And don't forget you can use your smart speaker to listen.
We've made it easier. All you have to do is
say play one oh three to one Austin. All right, friends,
here we go. Thanks for being with us. If you're
(00:20):
brand new, it's the JB and Sandy Hour. My name
is Sandy, joined by my longtime radio partner, my good
friend jab Hager.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
With us as well. Hello, Tricia joins the club.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hi, everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
A long line of third bananas, you follow mine here
in the history of the JB.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
And Sandy Show, I'm the most recent third banana.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, happy to be here.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
I mean technically I'm the third banana. You guys have
been doing this for all enough, how many years now?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Tricia's got an opinion on that, Go right ahead to you.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Hey, when it's the Sandy Show, just me and Sandy,
it was just me and Sandy, Sandy's first banana.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I'm second.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
When it's the JB and Sandy Show. Absolutely, I'm third
banana for sure. Jumped the line in front of.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Me, even though you've been at this for what number
of years now, the two of you, and then I
just showed up recently.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
No, I think you're a bigger banana. You're a bigger
banana than you.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
I think I'm a solid third banana. And this little
trio we have here.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Tricia doesn't want to be a second banana because that's
too much responsibility, too much work.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
She changed on the show. I have to do more stuff,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
And I think eighteen years together, Trump's the five six
years the Tricia and I have been doing it. So
I think I think so definitely definitely a banana.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Hey, sounds like back in the day we used to
have five six bananas.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I know, what do we do with the most so
many bananas at one time.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Now not having here's the thing with not having all
the other bananas.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I don't know what those bananas did.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Because I'm managing to do all of it now without
the other bananas. So me, two bananas and.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
We will rule the world. Good bananas.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Maybe one good banana I'll work them to death, work
them to death with things to do.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I just I don't know what the other bananas did.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
I'll really condensed this story. But there's a guy that
you would recognize from TV. He's a pitch man, and
he was at a podcast that I was doing live
and I went out and I set up all the
lights and all the cameras, and then I sat down
and co hosted the show. And then afterward I was
in there in the bar editing. It was at a hotel.
I was editing and publishing it. And he walks up
(02:35):
and he goes, wait a minute. You set up all
the cameras, the lights, co hosted the show, and now
you're doing all the post production. I'm like, yep, and
he goes, I have a crew back home that does
exactly what you're doing. And I have eight of them.
I'm going back and fire in half of them tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Hey there's a lot of fat there, really is. I
mean we're seeing it in the government right now too.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
My gosh.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, with the thing.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
And not to get all political, but I just will
say this. I did read that Doze and Elon Musk
are now going after NPR.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Good the budget that they have.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Yeah, the money, the resources.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Is unbelievable for radio.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
I've been in and out of these radio studios for
thirty plus years. You don't need that much money to
get into something great.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
On the radio.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
The stuff that they've built is not necessary. It's mostly
syndicated programming.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Right, But I mean, you don't need a reporter in Bangladesh,
you know what I mean to talk about the rainy season,
you know, I'm just I don't want to go off
on that. I'll tell you something fun that's happening tomorrow
night at green Hall. Lyle love It is played nice
at green Hall, which is pretty cool. But this is
Lyle Lovett and his acoustic band. This is not Lyle
(03:57):
love It and his large band, you know what I mean.
Sometimes had that orchestra that was with him. But yeah,
Lyle love It is definitely a must see if you're
a Central textan at all. He's from just outside of Houston,
I believe, and we've seen him. It seems like Lyle's
been around forever.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Birth and he looks exactly the same.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, have you seen him in person?
Speaker 5 (04:18):
JB at a at a Galah it was the performer. Yeah,
it was a fundraiser, but not at like a concert concert, right.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
I don't get me wrong.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I love green Hall, but I always pictured Lyle love
it like a bass concert hall guy, not a grain
hall guy.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I think green Hall is great for him.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
There's no ways large band would fit in there and
other people would be able to fit in there.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
How much are tickets to get him in that smaller venue?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Just over one hundred bucks? Okay, which is my ticket standards?
Not too bad? Yeah, not bad boy. I bet you've got.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Some stories from green Hall back in the day. Tricia
rode down there the KINI top on the back of
a Harley.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Probably I did not.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I've been there a lot.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Yes, I've danced a lot of circles at green Hall.
It's great, it's fun. It's just a little too far away
when you know you're not drinking.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Tell j about the time you rode with the Bandidos.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Oh yeah, yes, I hope our daughter is not listening
to this. My girlfriend said, I hang out back with
back in the day, Jack and Brittany. Her name is Jennifer,
but with her initials are Jak, so we call her Jack.
We were in San Angelo, Texas for a bridesmaid's shower,
I think for Brittany. And after the shower, yes, this
(05:37):
was her first one. We went and we're gonna do
a little day drinking. It ended up in a Tahano bar.
We did not realize that it was what it was,
bunch of motorcycles ads.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
I just kind of didn't realize. Stumbled in and at.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
First we were like, Okay, let's just finish this drink
and we'll go. We ended up staying for hours and
having so much fun. Everybody bought us drinks. Everybody was
so nice, and then later on they were like, you
guys want to go on a road with our motorcycles
and we're all sure, Oh my gosh, wow, what in
(06:09):
the world.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
But they were so nice. We'd be with them all.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
The biggest yang and text.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
I can't think of the name of the gang. If
I texted my friend Jack, she would immediately.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
It wasn't the Bandidos. I think I just made that up.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
No, it was a legit motorcycle gang with the vest
and everything. And so I'm on one bike, Jack's on one,
Britney's on one, we have our helmets on. We're just smiling,
and then they slowly start heading out of town and
we slowly are freaking out.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Jack.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah, I was like, I have to go to the bathroom.
They pulled over. We ran into the bushes and squatted.
We got back on the bikes and they brought us
back home. They were great, It's such a stupid thing.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
We did so fun.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Your daughter comes home and tells you what she that
she just did that you'd kill her?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
So the girl who was getting married, Brittany, when her
fiance found out, he was furious.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
It's like we were grounded.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
We weren't let out of his site or any of
the other guys. We were their their site for the
whole rest of the trip. But oh my god, it
was so much fun. But such a stupid thing to do.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Everybody's done it and gotten away with it somehow.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Don't forget that if you can't be here for the
whole hour. Today grabbed the podcast version on the iHeartRadio app.
Coming up next, Chrisian's got the story We love What
do you have?
Speaker 3 (07:26):
All right?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
We are going to talk about what are we going
to talk about?
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Oh I lost my dees.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
We're going to talk about the possibility gambling.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Please live in Texas. I had a little mixed up
on my notes. Here.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
We're going to talk about gambling possibly being legalized, and
I'm going to get y'all's takes on which think about it,
and I'll let you know what the overwhelming majority is saying.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
All right, stay with us the Story we Love Next
on Austin's eighty station, What O three point one is gambling?
Casino gambling coming to Texas. Tricia's got the info for
us in the Story We Love. It's the Jay in
Sandy Hour now Monday through Friday from seven until eight o'clock.
Also give us a follow on Facebook to search the
JB and Sandy Morning Show the Stories We Love.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
The University of Houston conducted a survey back in January
asking Texans what their opinions were of legalizing different forms
of gambling in Texas, and the overwhelming majority seventy three
percent said that they support legalizing gambling and constructing operations
within sports.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Already sports stadiums.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
That are set up, as well as destination resort casinos
in the state of Texas.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Well, That's why I'm seeing all of those ads on
television about destination resorts, like let the people decide.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
They're trying to bring it to a vote.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, they're saying that it's going to bring thousands of jobs,
you know, during construction after people on sports betting, online
betting operations, to sports books in stadiums, h and arenas
of Texas professional sports all overwhelming majority of say yes,
sports is just.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
Huge now and it doesn't quite have the stigma, you know,
especially at football, is just making a little more entertaining
for everybody. That's interesting.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
I did.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
There's one thing I know, and then there's something I
kind of suspect. I think it has something to do
with a Texas constitution.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
So it's not it's it's a little complicated.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Not just as easy as yes or no.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yes, so, but you know, anything could happen. But then
there's another thing I know a little bit about. I
think we've talked about this when I was doing Austin
found the Austin History podcast. Is when you know, usually
there's even states without gambling. There's a lot of Indian
casinos and uh, and I may have this wrong, so
(09:54):
don't crucify me, but when when the US government was
out locating federal land for reservations is when Texas was
its own republic. Oh wow, which is why we don't
have all the big reservations in Texas.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Oh okay, so we weren't a part of the United States.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
Yet, not at the time they when they were.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Allotting the land for federal Oh that's interesting.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Now this I just looked up. There is one which
you've probably seen. There's one called Kickapoo Casino or something
like that on that on the Mexico border.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, that's down near Eagle Pass, right. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Yeah, I've seen or heard of that place before. Here's
the thing with casinos though, the one just across the
Red River in North Texas, north of Denton and all
that you go through that parking lot, nine out of
ten license plates are Texas license plates.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Right.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
We're just sending away the money.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Yeah, we're sending the money somewhere else. And if you think,
I mean, you might as well Texas get in on
the money because people are betting on sport in Texas.
Trust me, they're just doing it online or somewhere else.
So you might as well grab a piece of the pie.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Because it's also I would love to know because I
remember when we got the lottery in the early nineties.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
Yeah, and I remember it distinctly because and I'll get
to my point. The very first day Texas had lottery,
I was working at Eagle ninety seven in Dallas. This
is the first station that I was an intern, and
I was the guy on the street. And it's like,
go buy ninety seven scratch off tickets, right, dollar scratch
(11:36):
off tickets. Ninety seven tickets. I go buy them at
like six thirty in the morning, you know, and I'm
out there scratching for two hours, zero wins, not a dollar.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
It was like the most a good lunch.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
It's the most disappointing thing ever.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Oh, but my point of this so I remember, you know,
that being controversial because they saw it as gambling. Very
conservative Texas. Uh, you know, there was some pushback. But
my I would love to know what improved from that funding, if.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Anything, where the money went.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
That's where yeah, oh it's going to go, you know,
give money to education. Surely somebody has done a study
to see if it did Texas get better when we
when we added lottery or yeah, that would be my
question for this, you know, how is it going to
get better? The other thing I think of is just
knowing Texans, We're going to try to outdo Vegas as
(12:39):
soon as possible, right in the middle of nowhere, like
way West Texas or something, Yeah, like Lahitas. They're going
to try to make it in the new Vegas because
that's how Texans roll.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, bigger and better. Right.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
I don't know it's going to be interesting, But an
overwhelming majority in this study that you cited Trisia said yes,
let's bring it, let's have it.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, And they also said they wanted destination to resort
casinos over online betting or sports books that are already
in or in already built professional arenas. They like all three,
but they like the resort casino's idea the best.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
There's poker rooms all over Austin too, like places where
you can go play poker, and I don't know how
they get around that.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I'm sure they're.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Hush hush right.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
No, No, there I see billboards for him. I just
saw one another day at one eighty three and thirty five.
There's a giant billboard forum. And no, I know what
you're thinking of. You're thinking of the house game that
I used to play, and that one was illegal.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
But I'll tell you this, it was illegal, but it
was when I was pregnant and they had a lady
who cooked at that house twenty four seven and she
made the best lomaine I've ever had. So every time
seeing you one, I was like, you can go, I
don't care, but you better bring me home some lomaine.
So she fixed up food for me and he'd bring
it home every time time.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
But I think the way.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
That those card rooms get around it is that they
don't take part of the pot, you know what I mean.
As long as they don't take what's called a rake
in poker, which is a little percentage of each pot
and keep it for themselves, then they can play. But
that just means that I don't know, you have to
buy a membership or something like that. I don't know
how it all works, but it's totally legit. But so
you've got those. But next up could be casinos and
(14:23):
sportsbooks in Texas.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
We'll see, We'll see.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
You know what will be the best thing about having
casinos in Texas? More magic shows.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
That hurt.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Oh, stay with us, We've got more coming up on
Austin's eighty Station one O three point one. Super Bowl
is on Sunday, You've got the Chiefs and the Eagles,
and it's like a national holiday in America to watch
the football game. And if you want to make it
a little bit more interesting, it's fun to put a
few dollars down here and there on a on a
prop bet, something silly that could happen in the game.
(14:56):
Everyone's favorite is how long the national anthem is going
to be? By the way, I don't even know who's
singing the national anthem at this year's game.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Do you guys?
Speaker 3 (15:05):
M I don't think I do.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I'll find it.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
But some of the prop bets that are out there
that you can participate in are kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
What are some of them?
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Some of the random ones. What's the first celebrity cameo?
Obviously he's probably going to be Taylor Swift since she's
going to be at the game. She's a thirty three
percent probability. Peyton Manning is the second at twenty five percent.
Let's see, do you think Kendrick Lamar you can bet
on whether or not he's gonna mention Drake during his
halftime show. You know they have that beef Kendrick Lamar
(15:34):
and Drake. Kendrick Lamar is the performer.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
That's a big stage to air out of beef.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Right, well, the beef was aired out and that's the
song that got in the Grammy.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
So so I don't know who will the MVP mentioned first?
God or Jesus?
Speaker 4 (15:51):
That's the number one. Teammates are second? This is a
normal one. What color will the gatora be be that's
poured over the winning coach has the best odds for that?
Will Travis Kelcey proposed to Taylor Swift after the game?
Speaker 5 (16:07):
Make me throw up?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Yeah me too? Gag?
Speaker 1 (16:13):
He has anybody, if he has any true dude friends
on that team, they will stop him from doing that,
you know what I mean? Like, dude, no, no, no, no,
that steals all the spotlight if they.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Win, right, it's just about them, not the game. Yeah
about this one? Is this one unusual? A quarterback catches
a pass? Is that something.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
That it can happen?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
It's very unusual, But like, what would happen is he
throws it, the defensive team bats it down, and then
he catches it.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
Oh okay, well there's a five point nine percent chance
that that will happen. And finally, a coach or a
player will cry during the national anthem.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Oh, I would bet yes, how they gonna show it?
Though they're gonna show every player, you know what I mean. Yeah,
John Baptiste is going to be the singer of the
national anthem. You may remember him because he led the
Late Show with Stephen Colbert's band from twenty fifteen to
twenty twenty two. He is a Juilliard graduate from New York.
(17:16):
Anybody's from New Orleans in which school at the Juilliard School,
So he is a legit musician and he's going to
be singing the national anthem. I always think of Jmi.
Triciaan and I's first date was a super Bowl Oh
that's right.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Now, in two thousand and three.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
And didn't you get snowed in for days or something?
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Oh that was shortly after date. Yeah, it was a
three day date when we had an ice drom. I
thought she'd never leave.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Oh God, I tried so hard to leave.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
But I remember it clear as a bell, like I
was heading downtown. I was going to the Copper Tank
to watch the football game with some buddies of mine,
and I stopped at the Valero used to be a
diamond shamrock right at the corner of Far West in Steck.
I ducked in there to get a can of cocenhagen.
I was like, I'm gonna call that chick and just
invite her. Surely she's got something going on. Games got
(18:09):
kicks off in like an hour and a half. But
at least she'll know I was thinking about her. And
but I'll ask her to come, but she'll have something
to do. No, I've called her up. I'll never forgeted.
I was right by the gas pumps and that at
that little voalleerro and I was like, Hey, I'm heading
down to the copper tank if you want to watch
the game. Game starts an how She's like, okay, cool,
I'll see you there. I mean, you don't have plans,
(18:34):
you don't have planes already.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
No, I would not have gone to watch it.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
If one of my girls had called and asked me
to go, I'd be like, nah, I'm fine.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
I was a big Super Bowl person.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Yeah, then I knew she was all right.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
She made a few prop bets on the game and
stuff and was cool and during the game, and yeah,
that that was our first date.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
It was a super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
Just asked me recently, like what my super Bowl plans
were and I was like, nothing in my unless my
wife makes them. She informed me last night that we
have plans.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Y'all.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Yeah, we're going to friends and they're all her friends. Like,
but there we're going.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Yeah, so I think we're just gonna have a couple
of people over.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
The most exciting thing for me about super Bowl on
Sunday is the Tamali's that we're gonna get.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
That's what I'm most excited about.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
I'm actually thinking about playing golf. I mean, there's gonna
be no one on the golf course, so games at five,
but I mean, ever, we're going to be off the
golf course by.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Two, go heading to parties and yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
So I don't know if anybody wants to play holla,
because I got no one to play.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
With right now.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
You're not missed the super Bowl. You've never missed watching
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
I know. I'm just all that excited about it.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I know. They's the Tomali's.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Yeah, forget that about the Tamali's. We're Tomali family. You know,
We're that family that eats Tomaly's all year long. Most
people get having the Christmas time and stuff, not us.
We're constantly eating tomaly's too.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
I pick them up from Achi b all the time, so.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Good, and you can get them warm.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Do this, do this, mix them in with your scrambled eggs.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Oh my god, that sounds delicious.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
That does sound good. Eggs. That's what I call them eggs.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Wife, you want some tomali eggs? Yeah, it's all. And
then you just pour some like heimis spicy salcea over it.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
In my mouth. That is just filled up with saliva.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Yourself and breakfast. Good.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Enjoy the game. Kickoff, of course, is on Sunday. The
commercials are from what I've seen.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
They I mean years and years ago they started. They
they're automatically leaked. It's not like a leaked They get
them out to get the mileage out of.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
It, leading but ruin the surprise for the fan that
likes it during the game, right, I've seen that one.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
You get to the super Bowl, it's just a normal commercial.
Like part of the fun of the super Bowl was
can't wait to see the commercials, you know what I mean.
You know it's weird there anymore they don't.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Super Bowl commercials used to be so impactful, and maybe
it's because we're just seeing the most outrageous stuff on
our phones every given day. Yeah, I think surprises us. Yeah,
I mean we get we get moved to tears watching
American Idol. So you know, the the Budweiser Clydesdale Pony
(21:28):
isn't going to get me like it used to.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yeah, every time, I'll still pay attention to the Clyde Seals.
Those are the only ones that I really really like.
The leaked ones that they've been like seven or eighth
that they've leaked already, I've.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Watched them and I'm like, that's what you pay it
all that money for. That's it.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
It's like a month ago, Coca Cola took a lot
of flak. I forget what the event was, but they
aired an all AI commercial and people were pissed really really,
So I wonder if there's going to be some of that.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
We'll see, Yeah, we'll see. Enjoy the game. Thanks for listening.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
We'll see you on the radio every morning from six
until ten on Austin's eighties station one oh three point
one and streaming on the iHeartRadio app.
