In this episode of The Snagged Podcast, I’m sharing one of the funniest (and most unforgettable) real wedding stories from my 20+ years as a wedding planner: The Legend of Drunk Guy.

What started as a picture-perfect Nashville wedding turned into full-on wedding guest disaster when one man, a luxury restroom trailer, and way too many drinks collided. From getting stuck in the bathroom to passing out in the bridal suite closet (yes, really), this hilarious true story will have you laughing—and maybe thinking twice about your own open bar.

Along the way, I’m also sharing wedding planning tips to help you avoid chaos, plus a gentle reminder that not every snag is the end of the world—in fact, sometimes it makes the best story.

Whether you’re in the middle of wedding planning, dreaming of your big day, or just here for a good laugh, this episode is for you.

👉 Tune in for:
• A funny real wedding guest disaster you won’t believe
• Why every wedding needs a buddy system
• How to handle the unexpected with grace and humor

Because sometimes the best wedding stories? They start with a snag.

welcome to the snagged podcast
where wedding planning meets real life
real lessons and let's be honest
a whole lot of unexpected snags
I'm Sarah Lizabeth a wedding planner
storyteller and someone who has seen it all
from dream weddings to the beautiful
messy reality of love
marriage and everything in between

(00:23):
if you're feeling overwhelmed
like you're already behind or somehow doing it wrong
take a breath
you're not the only one who's felt that way here
we don't just talk about planning the perfect wedding
we talk about the snags the mistakes
the moments that don't go as planned
and the lessons they leave behind

(00:44):
because nobody's love story is flawless
and that's what makes them beautiful
so whether you're knee deep in wedding planning
figuring out married life
or just here for a story that reminds you
that you're not alone this is your place to feel normal
to feel seen and a little more grounded
so grab your coffee or your wine

(01:04):
cause I don't judge and take a deep breath
let's connect because sometimes the best stories
they start with a snag
welcome to the Snagged Podcast
I'm your host Sarah Lizabeth
back in the day
I used to share a whole bunch of stories
about past weddings on YouTube
called stories with Sarah Lizabeth

(01:26):
and I went back to take a look at baby Sarah
and she was sharing all these stories
and honestly if you need a good laugh
you should go check them out
I said I would share a story every Tuesday for one year
and that's what I did
and that felt like something that I could commit to
and you know what during that time I was doing this

(01:49):
I was personally
going through one of the hardest moments of my life
so to look back at these videos
knowing what I was going through
was quite painful to see
but while the videos may be old and a bit cringy
as my kids say the stories
are still as epic as the day that I shared them

(02:09):
so I thought
it would be fun to spend some time
sharing these stories with you
because really
I've Learned so much through the stories that I share
and the things that have happened to me along the way
and today
I've got a story for you that still makes me laugh
every single time I think about it
and around here
my team and I lovingly call it the legend of Drunk Guy

(02:32):
and once you hear this
you'll understand why it's stuff of wedding folklore
let me set the scene for you
it was one of those absolutely
perfect days in Nashville
the sun was shining the weather was gorgeous
the birds were chirping
or at least they were chirping in my head
and the venue looked like something out of a fairy tale

(02:56):
it was a textbook perfect wedding day
and I was in my element I was living my best life
helping another couple have their best day ever
now if you've ever been to a wedding
worked a wedding
or existed in the same zip code as an open bar
you know there's always that one guest

(03:18):
the one who takes
let's have fun tonight as a personal challenge
and on this particular day friends
this guest was a man
we now exclusively refer to as drunk guy
there is literally no name needed
just drunk guy and you'll see why

(03:39):
hey friend
you know that moment when you're lying in bed at 2am
staring at the ceiling thinking
what am I forgetting
how do I tell my future mother in law
that she can't wear white
do I even need a seating chart
yeah I've been there too
that late night spiral the stress
the second guessing it's more common than you think

(04:00):
that's exactly why I built the bride bot
because no one should have to lose sleep
or sanity trying to plan their wedding
she's not just another chatbot
she's my brain
packed with 20+ years of wedding planning experience
turned into your 24/7 virtual wedding planner
she builds timelines she writes your vendor emails

(04:22):
she creates your checklist
and remembers every personal detail
she can literally help with anything you need
and the best part she never sleeps
so that you can the Bride Bot gives you clarity
calm and confidence
without the $5,000 dollar price
of hiring a professional wedding planner

(04:42):
and right now you can steal her for a limited time
introductory price at thebridebot.com
let her do the heavy lifting
so you can actually enjoy this season of life
alright let's get back to the episode
I have a library of wedding stories
related to drunk guests but this guy
he did it he literally stands alone

(05:05):
at first I didn't notice him at all
during the day I was busy doing what I do
I was hauling you know
these absolutely stunning but ridiculous
heavy handmade stone plates from the kitchen
to the bride's parents'car
towards the end of the night
so trip after trip

(05:25):
and these were weren't just your basic paper plates
y'all these were
I spent a small fortune on these
because I saw them on Pinterest kind of plates
so I was on a mission
every time I passed the restroom trailers though
I caught slight glimpses of this one guy
sharp blue suit fancy shoes

(05:48):
hair that clearly saw a professional that day
and there he was swaying
you know the sway
the I've had one too many
and I'm doing the math on how to stand up kind of sway
the sway that starts slow and subtle
but ends with gravity winning

(06:09):
every single time
I kept my eye on him because let's be real
I've done this for a really long time
and my job is to spot trouble before it starts
and so I noticed him and he eventually
had made it into the restroom trailer
and I thought phew
he just needs a minute maybe

(06:30):
you know splash some water on his face
maybe breathe into his hands
maybe have a heart to heart with himself in the mirror
but no no
that is not at all what happened
out of nowhere I hear it banging
screaming
and water was pouring out of the restroom trailer

(06:51):
he was screaming help me
get me out of here
you'd think someone was trapped in a burning building
but no it was drunk guy
he had locked himself into the restroom trailer
he clogged the toilet he flooded the entire restroom
and he was now having a full blown panic attack

(07:14):
because in his foggy alcohol soaked mind
he was trapped forever
in this luxury porta potty of doom
so I rushed over and he was banging on the door
and I was yelling
unlock the door just unlock the door
it was like
I was coaching somebody through diffusing a bomb

(07:36):
but seriously I just kept saying
all you need to do is unlock the door bro
but y'all look
logic does not live in the mind of drunk guy
and in his mind the walls were closing in
the Titanic was sinking and he was going down with it
finally miracle of miracles

(07:58):
he unlocked the door
and popped out like a fish out of water
stumbling out looking like he had just barely
survived a natural disaster
his suit was soaked his hair was wild
his eyes looked like he had stared into the abyss
I'm telling you pure survival mode

(08:20):
I honestly think he believed that he had cheated death
and I wish I could say that that was the end of it
but buckle up it gets better
hey snagster
quick pause
if you are listening right now and you're thinking
okay Sarah
but seriously
where do I even start with planning my wedding
take a breath you are not alone

alright let's get back to the episode

(10:10):
as the night went on we packed up
we cleaned up
and somewhere along the way I realized drunk guy
had disappeared gone
he was like vanished I thought
I wonder I wonder whatever
you know where he ended up
I mean we were surrounded by beautiful trees and hills

(10:30):
I mean he really could have gone anywhere
I imagined him napping in the bushes
or maybe he was just wandering into the night
like a tipsy Cinderella
who had lost more than just a shoe
I mean
it turns out the drunk guy
he took the express elevator to the next layer of chaos

(10:51):
and fast forward around 3:30 in the morning
the venue manager bless
bless him bless this man in his pajamas
you know lights out
about to drift off on the venue couch
when he hears something a noise
and then poof

(11:12):
out of the closet in the bridal suite
stumbles none other than drunk guy y'all
this man at some point in the evening
had wandered up to the bridal suite
climbed into the closet and passed out
and my team and I we cleaned the bridal suite
we cleaned it for over an hour

(11:33):
and somehow we never saw him
he just blended in
like a drunk little chameleon in a costume suit
the poor thing y'all
he wet himself in the process
and you know
he was just what we call in the south a hot mess train
the venue manager barely awake
looked at him and said the most by the book line ever

(11:56):
you're not supposed to be here
and truly he was not supposed to be there
so what happened next this poor venue manager
instead of going to bed has to help this man
he calls him an Uber
he literally drives him to meet the Uber
because the driver couldn't find the venue
and it's 4:30 in the morning

(12:18):
and my sweet pajama clad friend is stuck
babysitting a man who looks
and smells like he lost a bar fight with himself
and here's the kicker drunk guy's phone
no missed calls
no text no one was even looking for him

(12:39):
his friends had straight left him vanished
they ghosted him like well
good luck in life buddy
but we're out it was so sad
I almost wanted to start him
like a gofundme for the poor guy
we got the photo booth pictures back weeks later
and sure enough there he was surrounded by people

(13:02):
people who clearly knew him
and yet abandoned him like an old sock
y'all the moral of the story is
if you're going to be the life of the party
don't be drunk guy
and if you bring drunk guy to a wedding
take him home with you this is not hard

(13:22):
so that's the story of Drunk Guy
a cautionary tale of restroom trailers
bridal suite closets
and what happens when you let the open bar win
so thanks so much for hanging out with me today
I hope this gave you a good laugh
and a gentle reminder to always have a buddy system

(13:44):
when you party
until next time snagsters
this is where the process becomes the promise
