(00:00):
welcome to The Snagged Podcast
where wedding planning meets real life
real lessons and a whole lot of unexpected snags
I'm Sarah Llizabeth
a wedding planner and storyteller who has seen it all
from dream weddings
to the beautiful mess that is love and marriage
here
I don't just talk about planning the perfect wedding

(00:20):
I talk about the snags the mistakes
the mishaps
and the moments that taught me the biggest lessons
because let's be real life
love and marriage are never as perfect as we planned
but that's what makes them worth talking about
so whether you're knee deep in wedding planning
navigating marriage or just love a good story

(00:43):
about lessons Learned the hard way
this is your place to feel normal
so grab your coffee or your wine
I don't judge and take a deep breath and let's connect
because sometimes the best stories start with a snag
hey there and welcome to the snagged podcast

(01:06):
I'm your host and wedding planner friend
Sarah Lizabeth
Today's episode is one that's especially
close to my heart it's all about how to slow down
soak in every moment
and truly remember your wedding day
when I was growing up
my entire childhood revolved around theater

(01:26):
performing on stage was my passion
if you've ever been in a play
a musical or even danced in a recital
you probably know exactly what I'm talking about
you rehearse tirelessly for weeks
sometimes months you memorize lines
you perfect dance moves
you coordinate scenes and then suddenly

(01:50):
before you know it it's opening night
and just as quickly the final curtain call arrives
and it's always bittersweet
isn't it
I vividly remember standing backstage
during the final performance of a show that I adored
feeling this deep sense of heartbreak

(02:11):
it wasn't sadness because it was bad
quite the opposite
it was because it had been so magical
and now it was ending
those specific people at that specific time
performing that specific show
would never all be together again in the same way

(02:34):
the experience was unique and fleeting
this past weekend
my life brought this full circle moment for me
my own daughter
just finished performing in her very first show
we worked on her audition together
we celebrated when she made the show
transporting back and forth for rehearsals
dinner drop offs between school and the show costumes

(02:59):
opening night excitement flowers
the performances and then the final show
watching her up there
brought back all of those feelings joy
pride nostalgia
I deliberately didn't say much about what it
felt like to perform on stage
because I wanted her to experience every emotion

(03:22):
for herself
but before she went on stage for her last performance
I did share one small piece of advice
I told her to be intentional about remembering this
remember every step every dance move
every scene look around
take mental snapshots because this exact moment

(03:44):
with these exact people will never happen again
after the final curtain call fell
we met in the lobby and without saying a word
we hugged tightly and cried together
I knew exactly what she was feeling
gratitude mixed with the sweet ache of the end
we both knew we had experienced something

(04:06):
incredibly special together
and you know what weddings are exactly like this
I see it over and over and over again
with couples I've helped plan weddings for
your wedding day is a beautifully orchestrated event
something you pour your heart into planning
and then suddenly
after months or even years of preparation

(04:28):
your big day is here and you
before you know it it's over
everyone always says the same thing
don't they it went by so fast
but here's the truth
time doesn't actually speed up
it's our perception that changes
think about it like this
every morning when I put my kids on the school bus

(04:50):
it feels like I blink and they're already home
why because I'm busy doing what I love all day
and time seems to evaporate
your wedding day will feel the same way
it's a day filled with emotion
excitement joy and love
all the ingredients to make the hours feel like mere

(05:12):
minutes
the challenge then becomes
how do you intentionally slow down
how do you absorb all of the details
and truly remember the day
stick around and I'll share some of my tips on how to
remember your wedding day
hey snagster

alright let's get back to the episode
alright
so you have worked tirelessly on planning your wedding
it's basically a full time job
so how are we gonna remember this thing

(07:02):
so here's a few tips for you
to hopefully help you remember your wedding day
so tip No. 1
I want you to pause and look around throughout the day
literally stop what you are doing
even if it's just for a few seconds
look around at the faces of your guests
notice your parents your siblings

(07:24):
your best friends really see their smiles
their joy their love for you
this simple act helps imprint these precious
images into your memory
this will change everything for you
tip No. 2 be mindful of the small details

(07:45):
I remember on my wedding day
I didn't even notice the flowers
I made them
and I didn't even take time to notice the flowers
and follow my own advice I honestly
don't even know if they were even on the tables
and then I got the pictures back and I was like
the flowers were on the tables
don't do this notice the small things

(08:09):
the flowers that you spent weeks choosing
the delicate design on on your wedding cake
the twinkle lights
or how the sunset looked during the reception
these details aren't trivial
they're tiny
brush strokes that paint the entire memory of the day
tip No. 3 engage all of your senses

(08:32):
memories tied to senses are incredibly powerful
you know when you smell something that seems familiar
memories are tied to our senses
so notice how your dress feels as it moves around you
how your partner's hand feels
when you're engaging in your vows

(08:53):
listen carefully to the music
to the laughter to even the clinking of the glasses
inhale deeply and remember how your flowers smell
how your the fresh air feels at the venue
each sensory experience is another anchor
for your memory
tip No. 4 intentionally step away

(09:16):
for each client that I serve
I'm intentional in building
in time for them to get away
and be alone
so take 5 minutes with your new spouse
and just step away from the reception
from the people from the noise
go outside or find a quiet space
take a breath and look at each other in the eyes

(09:38):
and really
talk about what you're feeling in that moment
it's these quiet
personal moments that you will carry in your heart
forever
tip number five
tell yourself
remember this it might sound really silly
but literally whisper or

(09:58):
or think these words in your head
remember this at key moments
it is so powerful
your mind responds when you're deliberate
and this intentional self reminder
remember this remember this
helps cement these little snapshots in your memory

(10:19):
tip No. 6 write it down ASAP
my favorite thing that I did on our wedding night
was to just as soon as we got alone
we started ripping through those cards
we started because really
let's be real there's cash in there
so we wanted to take that cash with us on our honeymoon
and you know
that night on your wedding

(10:40):
you know
jot things down and jot down your favorite memory
it doesn't have to be perfect
you know you can do it the night of your wedding
or the next morning but just those small notes
or highlights will help jog your memories later
the act of actually writing it down
strengthens your recall dramatically

(11:02):
tip No. 7 take mental pictures
I know that you'll have professional photographers
or someone capturing those
those photographs
but don't forget to take your own mental photos
pause and be intentional
and visually snap a mental photo throughout the day
and that

(11:23):
you will truly hold that moment in your mind forever
your wedding day is so special
not just because it's beautifully planned
or visually stunning
but because it's fleeting and it's rare
just like that theater performance
you've created something magical that exists

(11:43):
in one brief moment of time
when you're intentional
mindful and deliberately slow down
your memories will be vivid
lasting and deeply meaningful
if you're planning your wedding right now
keep these tips in the back of your pocket
slow down
soak it all in and cherish every single second

(12:05):
it's your day live in every beautiful
unrepeatable moment of it all
