(00:00):
welcome to the snagged podcast
where wedding planning meets real life
real lessons and a whole lot of unexpected snags
I'm Sarah Lizabeth
a wedding planner and storyteller who has seen it all
from dream weddings
to the beautiful mess that is love and marriage
here
I don't just talk about planning the perfect wedding

(00:20):
I talk about the snags the mistakes
the mishaps
and the moments that taught me the biggest lessons
because let's be real life
love and marriage are never as perfect as we planned
but that's what makes them worth talking about
so whether you're knee deep in wedding planning
navigating marriage or just love

(00:42):
a good story about lessons Learned the hard way
this is your place to feel normal
so grab your coffee or your wine
I don't judge and take a deep breath and let's connect
because sometimes the best stories start with a snag

(01:03):
hey snagsters
and welcome back to the snagged podcast
the show where we talk about everything
wedding planning the dreamy Pinterest boards
the budget breakdowns the family freak outs
and literally everything in between
I'm your host Sarah Lizabeth
wedding planner educator
and former bride

(01:23):
who tried to figure this all out 20 years ago
and became a wedding planner
and today's episode it's a fun one
because we're diving into the real stuff
that you Google at 1:00am
when you are supposed to be asleep
but instead

(01:43):
you're three hours into a rabbit hole titled
Do I Need to feed my photographer
or what if my wedding dress rips
and I have to duct tape it mid ceremony
or my personal favorite
is it normal to want to cancel the whole thing
and elope with my dog
if you've ever had a moment where your brain

(02:04):
will not shut off
you are frantically googling every worst case scenario
this episode is for you so let's talk about it
first let's set the scene
it's it's late everyone is sleeping
the house is quiet and you my sweet overwhelmed

(02:24):
well intentioned bride is laying in bed
phone 6 inches from your face
your pillow over your head whispering to yourself
I'll just check one thing
and three hours later you're googling
can I change my venue if I've already sent out the
save the dates or
what to do if my officiant

(02:46):
backs out the day before the wedding
or do I have to have a wedding cake
like is it legal if I don't okay
does any of that sound familiar
because trust me even with my clients
I someone once told me
if something is keeping you up at night
it's because it needs attention

(03:09):
you need to do it right and I often you know
clients will come in and they'll say oh
I'm having those nightmares
I'm having the dreams and I'm like girl
I have those dreams
and nightmares about every single client I work with
because it's front of my mind
it's top of what I'm working on
I literally work on weddings

(03:30):
teach on weddings talk with brides every single day
and so weddings are constantly keeping me up at night
so I can relate I can have empathy for you
but here's the thing this
this spiral that you're going on
in the middle of the night
it's totally normal
because you're not just planning a party

(03:51):
you're planning a deep emotional
high stakes very public event that for most brides
you've never planned before
and hopefully you won't ever again
and so you're you're being asked to make decisions
on things that you've never heard of before linens

(04:11):
chargers what is a sweetheart table
do I need trash cans you know
there's so many things that you've never experienced
before and so
if you've ever felt like
you're falling into the deep end of the wedding Google
you are not alone I've been there before
when I first started my career 20 years ago

(04:34):
I had a bride that I sat in front of
and she showed me all of the things that she wanted
for her wedding none of which I knew how to do
and so I looked at her and I said yes
I will absolutely make that happen for you
and then I had to figure it out

(04:55):
and I remember that first wedding
I thought I could wake up at 1 in the morning
like literally just think about this for a second
wake up at 1 in the morning
and start working on her flowers now
20 years later
I have a whole process to planning weddings
but I also have a process to making the flowers

(05:16):
and that typically will begin on a Thursday
prior to a Saturday wedding
so I woke up that morning
thinking
I could get all of those flowers done for her wedding
because I just didn't have the knowledge
and just like my 5th grade teacher said
knowledge is power right
and I didn't have the knowledge

(05:36):
or understanding that
there was no way that I was gonna
ever be able to make all of those flowers
before her wedding and what happened
I was frantic
I was stressed to I I didn't know what I was doing
I was trying to put something together
the plan wasn't working I was literally

(05:57):
googling how to make these centerpieces
the morning of her wedding
like it was not a good situation
one that I would not suggest for you so I get it
the the searching on Google is is normal
you are normal to do it but hopefully
I can help you answer some of these questions

(06:19):
so that you can rest and you can sleep
because we all need our sleep
and that's you know
nobody sits and talks about mental health during
planning a wedding and it's so important
one of the most important things is sleep
and so
I wanna help you maybe get a little bit more sleep
stop googling all these questions

(06:40):
and be able to enjoy this process
so let's have a little fun
I asked some of my brides with their permission
to share some of the funniest
or most unhinged thing that they've googled
late night during their planning process
so here are some of my favorites
so these are actual questions
that some of my brides

(07:00):
who have me planning their wedding
have asked Google in the middle of the night okay
so can I walk down the aisle faster if you don't cry
what that that is hilarious so yes
crying is not gonna make you walk faster or slower
so I love that how to tell your maid of honor

(07:24):
she's not actually that helpful hahaha
can anyone relate to this
oh my goodness the
the stories that I have been told about bridal party
people like there needs to be a class
maybe maybe
I'll start a class on how to be a great bridal party
person because it

(07:47):
oh my gosh I mean
I know y'all can relate out there
your bridal party can really stress you out
they can make this
so not fun for all of us that are planning our wedding
so so yes that
that's a question that has been googled
in the middle of the night alright
next is it bad if all my wedding decor is from Amazon

(08:09):
no just you know
live it up there is there's nothing wrong with that
I mean my husband makes fun of me and
you know he's just as guilty as I am
but he makes fun of me because
you know
one time we had a Amazon driver that came to my house
I hadn't ordered anything in
in a few days and so he came and delivered this package

(08:32):
and he was like I was actually really concerned for you
haha
that something was wrong because I wasn't delivering
now you know
that's bad but I also order literally
almost everything from Amazon
I do not order a lot of stuff that like is for me
it's laundry detergent it's toilet paper
it's you know

(08:52):
cleaning supplies and snacks and things that are
you know things that we need as a family right
I wish those packages were things like
you know designer clothing and
and things that I love like makeup and hair supplies
you know
like the things that I would like to buy for myself

(09:13):
but unfortunately it's
it's mostly just home products that I need for
to run this household so
you know I
but that day
when the Amazon driver came to our door and
and was concerned for my health um
my husband was like yeah
there there's
there's a little bit of a problem
but he's just as guilty as me

(09:34):
he calls me the Amazon Queen
I call him the Amazon King
so it is fine if you get your wedding
decor from Amazon next question
do people actually eat the cake
or is it just for pictures
haha I love this yes
they'll actually eat the cake if they want the cake
right um
and so I just I I love the these questions so much

(09:57):
what shoes do you wear if you hate feet
but also hate heels
oh man that's a deep dive right there like sneakers
I would say sneakers wear some sneakers
what if I get cold feet 2 weeks before
but still love my fiance

(10:19):
oh boy
this is a therapy session in itself this question
you know I would wouldn't you love to be Google
wouldn't you love to just be Google and and
and see what some of I mean
now that I say that I don't really think I'd like that
because you might see some bad things out there
and I don't like to see I can't even watch bad movies

(10:40):
I'm one of those people that
I like whatever you put in you
you know it
it
you gotta be careful with what you put in your brain
you know and I get physically
physically sick over bad movies or hearing bad things
so I probably wouldn't want to be Google
but
if there was just a section where I could be Google

(11:02):
and hear funny questions about weddings
I would love that so yeah
the internet is wild but this just proves that
brides aren't looking for perfection
they're looking for reassurance for clarity
for a little voice that says hey
it's gonna be okay you're not doing it wrong

(11:23):
and it's
one of the main reasons why I created the bride bot
because it is my it is the Google of wedding planning
except it remembers the brides
and so I love it
because it's my way of sort of becoming Google and
and and having these questions built in
but with actual

(11:44):
not just Google answers or ChatGPT answers
but with actual wedding answers built from my you know
it's so cool I was able to build this bot and I
I added all of my content from my masterclass
from my mini courses

(12:06):
all of my content from everything that I have
and all of the lessons that I've Learned
and I've funneled it into this bridebot
and so when you ask it a question
it answers it based on what you should be doing
based on experience based on knowledge
but based on actual life and dealing with

(12:29):
with things that come up in life
and so I love it
because it's sort of my way of becoming
like the wedding planning Google
if if if
if you're up at night
and you're googling how to plan a wedding
like ask the bride bot she's got you
hey snagster
quick pause if you are listening to this and thinking
okay Sarah
but where do I even start with planning my wedding

(12:51):
I have got something just for you
I created a totally free class called Wedding Planning
101
how to start
simplify and effortlessly plan a dream wedding
because I've been where you are overwhelmed
not sure of what comes first
and already second guessing every decision

(13:12):
in this class
I'll walk you through the top 3 wedding planning
mistakes and how they're secretly stressing you out
the truth about wedding planning
that the big wedding planning websites
don't want you to know and my simple
proven 4 step process that helps you save time
reduce overwhelm
and confidently break down your wedding budget

(13:34):
and if you're ready to seriously
level up your planning game
check out my signature course
The Wedding Planning Process Master Class
it's the full step by step system
I've used for over 20 years to help couples plan calm
meaningful weddings without the chaos
think of it as
having me as your personal wedding planner

(13:56):
at a fraction of the cost
head to WedPlanPro.com for tools
freebies and planning resources I made just for you
alright let's get back to the episode
so what should you do instead of googling in panic
and here's the real talk

(14:16):
I want you to set like wedding office hours
so allow yourself
to plan your wedding during certain time
blocks of time like throughout your day
whatever works best with your schedule
this way your brain knows when to turn off
and sleep is sacred and so is your sanity
you know
whenever something new comes into my life and um

(14:42):
I need to add it into you know
my everyday schedule
or I need to add it into our family schedule
the only way that it works
and the only way that it doesn't
interrupt my sleep at night
is if I can implement it into my normal
everyday life
and so look at your schedule and kind of assess

(15:05):
you know when you could add that in
so maybe it's
maybe it's while you're driving in the car
you're listening to certain things
and you're thinking about certain things
or maybe you have you know
an hour that you could add to your morning
where you do wedding planning only
and so implementing sometime throughout your day

(15:27):
whatever works best within your schedule
to have those wedding office hours
and so that's all you're thinking about
when you're doing those wedding office hours
and then outside of that you're doing your normal
natural life
and you're doing the things that you do every day
all day and you're working at your job

(15:47):
and you're talking with friends
and you're binging Netflix
and you're Pinterest searching
and you're asking bride bot questions
you know whatever you have worked into your normal
natural everyday life
designate those wedding office hours
that will save you so much of your sanity

(16:08):
and hopefully get back some of your sleep
I also want you to use tools that know you
so stop
relying on generic checklist that don't know your vibe
they don't know your budget
your timeline
and that's another reason why I created the Bride Bot
because it remembers you it can you literally say hey
what do I need to do this week

(16:29):
or can you build my wedding timeline
or how do I tell my mom I'm not wearing her veil
she gets you
she's trained by me with 20 years of experience
of real wedding planning experience
and she actually knows what she's doing
unlike that one Reddit comment thread
that told someone to spray paint their bouquet
the night before no ma'am

(16:52):
like they do not know you
they do not know your situation
they do not know what you want
and so rely on people
rely on tools that actually remember who you are
and what you want for your wedding day
I know I've been talking about my friend the bride bot
but talk to humans who get it

(17:13):
vent to a friend DM me
ask your vendors talk to a therapist
you know don't just do it alone
and expect yourself to have all the answers
when you're also working and you're living life
and maybe even trying to remember to feed yourself
along the way so talk to people and with that

(17:35):
make sure that you're talking to those people
that you trust and that you love
and that genuinely love you
and when you do that expect to get opinions
and they
may or may not be the opinions that you want to hear
but don't talk to someone
unless you're willing to get their opinion

(17:57):
my very best friend and I
we will sit and talk about something
and hash out something and here's the thing
we both have this understanding
that what she says to me
and what I say to her is said out of love
so she may not
she may not want to hear what I have to say
but she'll tell me something and I will speak truth

(18:20):
you know and I do it out of love
and and she will do the same to me
and we have this this understanding that like hey
sometimes I'm gonna need to hear something
that I don't really wanna hear
but I know it's coming from someone that I love
and value and respect and so I'm able to receive it

(18:42):
so
make sure that those humans that you are speaking to
love you and care for you
and are only speaking things
that are not gonna stress you out
and you know hey
if this person says this to me
I know that it's coming from love
it's coming from a place of love it's not coming from
you know she's jealous of me

(19:03):
or she wants a better wedding than me
you know especially if you're planning a wedding with
with a friend you know
like she's planning her wedding
you're planning your wedding that can be tense right
and sometimes
it's best to just kind of put some distance there
and not share all the things
because it's natural
it's normal to want a better wedding than her

(19:24):
I mean let's be real
you know you want that
people want that but to always have that perspective of
listen this isn't a competition
you know
I can have my own and my own can stand as my own
and she can have hers and so
being able to kind of
put a hedge of Protection around you

(19:45):
during this planning process
of who you're talking to
and who you're giving information to
will also help your sanity
and help your sleep at night
so let me give you a little bit of encouragement here
because I always like to
to encourage especially
those that are taking the time out of their day
to listen to me and to hear this podcast

(20:08):
and you know
I am on a mission to change this narrative of
wedding planning has to be stressful
and weddings are you know
make people into horrible people
you know and don't
nobody wants to be around them
and it can if you allow it

(20:28):
if you allow it it will happen for you
and so if you've been spinning out
and you're googling everything from
can I fire my DJ or
will my fiance notice
if I reprint these invitations for a third time
I want you to just take a moment
to breathe you are not failing at this thing

(20:51):
you are not behind
and you are just doing something that is really big
it's a really big deal
you're planning the first day of your marriage
not just a wedding and no amount of Pinterest
inspo is going to replace peace of mind
let the late night searches be funny stories someday

(21:14):
not the thing that steals your joy today alright
that's it for today and if this episode made you laugh
cry or or say oh Omg
that is me then please follow
please subscribe
please send out the snagged podcast to others

(21:35):
other people that you know
I would greatly sincerely appreciate it
as I'm trying to build this mission
and build this platform
for brides that are really struggling
because we don't acknowledge that enough
and I want to change that narrative
that weddings are stressful

(21:55):
and so um
make sure to check out the bride bot
if you haven't at thebridebot.com seriously
you can ask her anything
and she'll remember your colors
your budget your vibe
and even has opinions on how to tell Aunt Karen
to back it up right
planning your wedding doesn't have to mean panic

(22:16):
googling in the dark there is a better way
and I'm here to help you find out
don't forget to follow
leave a review and if this resonates with you
share this episode with your fellow bride friends
who need to laugh instead of spiral
so until next time snagsters
this is where the process becomes the promise
