Ashley is a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia. His research interests include critical pedagogy, inclusive education, the role of hidden identities in language classrooms, and queer issues in language education, amongst other topics. He has published in TESOL Quarterly, the ELT Journal, and the Modern Language Journal. 

In this interview, recorded remotely, Matt spoke to Ashley about queer issues and heteronormativity in foreign language learning and teaching.
